Hi, I bought one of these tablets 2nd hand and I overlooked when the guy said it was in Demo Mode (the moral of the story is don't ebay after "some" beer).
I have to admit I thought it would be easy, just go into developer options and turn off demo mode, but dev options flashes up and disappears.
I've found there's a demo mode app running but I can't disable it.
I got it into recovery mode where I did a factory reset and when I rebooted it did come up normally for about 30 secs then a pop up appeared saying demo mode starting which put me back to square 1.
I've been trying to find the stock firmware to flash it but I'm having no luck.
Have any of you got any ideas what to try next?
Thanks
Steve

Hi,
I hope you can help.
I recently changed the ROM on my HTC to the VillainROM12.0 . This worked fine. However, since the rom change, the phone itself has since been stuck in safe mode. I have tried everything to get out of it, by holding down the menu and power keys on boot up, taking out the battery and leaving it out. I then changed the ROM to HeroDroid 07, this rom loaded fine, but the phone is still stuck in safe mode. I managed to get the phone out of safe mode once, but on re-boot it's gone back in again. The phone is a UK Orange issue Hero and was working fine before the ROM change, as far as I can tell all the buttons are working. I have also re-flashed the phone with the ROM several times, but it's still the same.
I called Orange, and they said, "they detected a fault" and gave me a code to report to HTC, the code is FW229 - how they can detect a fault, I don't know. I have the option to send it back to HTC for repair or Pay £15.00 to have another Hero delivered.
Do you think this is a genuine fault with the phone, or is it something to do with the Rom change and how to get out of safe mode? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Hi, I Have the Same problem with my Hero.
- All roms i found here are starting in safe mode only.
- All roms with android 1.5 are starting normal without safe mode
Maybe a rom developer can help us to turn off the "safe mode" feature.
I rolled back to the 1.5 HTC Orange Rom from the HTC site and yes, safe mode is off. As soon as I tried to update to 2.1 again, back in to safe mode. I did not unlock the phone before the update, so am wordering if this is why? However, it's the same with the Sim out, so I have no idea why it does this. I am wordering if this problem is only with orange issue phones?
Any ideas would be great.
How have you managed to get the phone out of safe mode?
I managed to get the phone out once, by holding down all the buttons on boot, but when I re-booted the phone after, it went back to safe mode and I have not managed to get it out of safe mode since. I downgraded to 1.5 and it did not show safe mode, but soon as any 2.1 rom is installed, it goes back to being in safe mode. Holding down the menu and power keys should either take it out or put it in safe mode on boot, but does nothing when 2.1 is installed, all I get is safe mode.
Any ideas anyone?
Can an admin please move this thread in the HTC Hero: G2 Touch section?
I think there we would get more help
Heron HTC stuck in safe mode
I spent two days trying to get "Safe Mode" off my Hero HTC after upgrading the ROM to version 2.1. I called my provider and even HTC but no help from either. I found an obscure posting that said to power on the phone while holding down the track ball and that did it. There are also other power on options: hold volume button up or down, hold menu down, hold menu + back...but for me, none of these helped...only the track ball.

Owww tha powa !
Hello.
I've experienced a very odd issue today. my battery died and after I placing it into the charging it about an hour I started up the phone again it said something about an encryption error and gave me only 1 option - factory reset.
Reluctantly I agreed. luckily I had almost everything backed up, however after doing the factory reset my phone got in an endless restart loop. right after the ZTE flash screen I get a brief (a second or two) screen where theres the android mascot with some gears spinning on his back and some weird 3d hexagon spinning on its front before it reboots.
I cant seen to get into rescue mode (trying power+vol. up), factory mode works however (power volume down) but its all in Chinese. tried fiddling it but its mostly hardware tests apparently, didn't find anything helpful for restoring.
I figured I'll try reinstalling CMW so I followed bgcngm's blog guide but it didn't change anything and I still cant go into rescue mode.
What should I do? how do I force into a recovery mode?
EDIT:
After some digging around I found a video on youtube which depicts my issue almost perfectly. dunno if it will help:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymtAkjy8Y9Y
still having the issue, can anyone please assist?
I wanted to solve this problem on my own but after almost 6 hours I just can't figure it out. Its either totally bricked or I'm just missing something simple. I've seen many people complain about this problem but none of them seem to have had the same problem I do. Thing is I was just really starting to love the way I had the phone set up. DAMN!
I used this thread to root: (CF)

SPRINT GALAXY S5 SPORT SM-G860P
Android 4.4
I had CW recovery installed
(wish I had more info about the software)
Here's whats happening:
START
(vibrate)
RECOVERY BOOTING...
RECOVERY IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING
Set Warranty Bit : recovery
(Also on Screen are the logos)
Samsung Galaxy S5 Sport
Powered by Android
This stays on for about 10 seconds.
Then blank screen (2 seconds)
(vibrate)
Screen still blank (2 seconds)
REPEAT (Auto reboot and goes back to start)
Other notes:
Trying to boot into recovery (home+vol up+power) Nothing Happens
Try to power off and nothing happens.
Pulled battery, did the 30 sec and restarted no change.
I have all updated usb drivers.
Odin will not see the device because its not on long enough. (Kies didn't see it either.)
Plug into PC via usb - Nothing Happens, device doesn't even show up because its not on long enough (win 8.1 and 7)
Pull battery to get it to stop, once battery goes back in, it auto starts again.
I TRIED AS MANY SD CARD / BATTERY/USB CABLE/POWER CABLE/BATTERY PULL/BUTTON COMBINATIONS AS I COULD FIND ONLINE AND THEN SOME. No Luck with anything.
I know this isn't a "help desk" I just wanted to give as much info as possible hoping to help you help me!
Please point me in the right direction.
Thanks!
Try to hard-reset your phone. There is a button combination for that., search it over the internet.
Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately the hard reset combo does nothing. I've tried every button combination that I have been able to find with no luck. Factory reset, hard reset, etc. etc. no luck. I've also searched for a possible "hidden" button underneath the back cover or something of the like...nothing.
hmmmm
At least, it is not hard-bricked. So there is hope.
Have you checked if it is entering the download mode? If not, then try it. You can use this mode to flash file via the PC.
Check this link
It worked! Obviously I didn't search or try as many things as I thought I did. : / I can't thank you enough! wow. Amazing!

So here's the gist. My s4 has been rooted for a while and very recently while removing some apps and bloatware I decided to remove the "Help" app since it seemed useless. I think I messed my phone up by doing that because by then my s4 would randomly give me the black screen of death or get stuck in a boot loop. To fix these problems I would take out the battery and hold the power button for a minute, or clear cache from the boot loader menu or reboot in safe mode which would inexplicably fix my phone normally for some reason. But all these options only temporarily fixed my phone and it would just continue with the same problems (Boot loop, black screen of death, etc).
I eventually resorted to factory resetting my phone, all though not the conventional way At first I tried decrypting my s4 but my stupid usb cord stopped being recognized by my pc and that screwed up the decryption so my phone factory resetted itself on it's own pretty much. Now I'm having trouble getting to the boot loading screen but I can get to the download/odin screen.
I looked up online and different guides told me the last resort is to do something called an emergency firmware recovery. I looked up on youtube what to do, tried using Kies but Kies said it doesn't support the s4. I then tried using Smart Switch but when I get to the screen where it tells me to enter my serial number, I enter it and it tells me that I'm entering the wrong serial number, even though I triple checked what it is! I google searched if other people were having this problem with smart switch and other people are having similar problems as I am. I'm running out of ideas on how to save my phone. I don't think it's a hardware problem because I haven't dropped my phone very recently. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do next?

Hello, I introduce myself since I am new here, my name is Tony I hope to learn a lot from all of you
I have a Dasaita PX6 Android 10 with resolution 1280X720 recently acquired, download this RoomHal9k_Mod_4.0_MTCD_MTCE_PX6_eng.rar and purchased the Modinstaller2, delete factory data, install the APK of modinstaller2, open it, select Android 10, enter the recovery, select USB, enter nothing, then do not find anything. After a while I gave it a reboot and it came back to normal, I opened the Modinstaller2 again, I chose android 9, it put "wait" and the screen went black with some stripes, I do not go into recovery mode anymore, wait and wait a long time when not doing absolutely I gave nothing to the reset and it did nothing, I tried it in a thousand ways, combinations and everything that occurred to me but it is still black, when trying to turn it off it lights up and turns off but it does not start or exit recovery mode or absolutely nothing so I imagine I will have spoiled it, if anyone knows any solution, remedy or whatever, I would be grateful to be able to recover my new radio
Many thanks to everyone in advance
I am new to this android and the truth is I have no idea about all this so I beg your patience and if the question does not go in this thread please ask the administrator to change it where appropriate, thanks

I am a bit confused with what you already tried, so let's see if you can get into recovery. Turn on the head unit and use a small piece of wire or tooth pick to press the reset button for about 15 seconds until the front panel lights start to flash, then release and do a short press on the button, that should take you into recovery mode. (I have Dasaita head units without physical buttons)

Ah cool. So posted first, then read forums and figured it out, while other members spent their time to take you through basics of recovery. At least you responded to your own post you figured it out.
