[Q] Disable roaming icon?

I have a US Cellular Samsung Galaxy S3 running Cyanogenmod 10, and version 4.1.2,
When I'm roaming, I get an "R" icon in the place where the "3G" or "4G" icon is usually displayed. There are no data roaming charges for US Cellular, so I'd rather not have the "R" icon. I'd rather just have the "3G" or "4G" icon even when I'm roaming.
How can I disable the roaming icon?
Note: I do not wish to disable roaming. I only want to disable the roaming icon.
I would guess you could use ninja morph from the play store to theme your system ui to just replace the roaming icon with what you want

Ah, good idea. I just looked up ninja morph, and it seems promising.
Here's where I think I might get stuck:
I could use ninja morph to replace the "R" icon with a custom "4G.png" But, this isn't hugely useful -- this logic wouldn't make the icon show up as 3G or 1X when my data connection is 3G or 1X; it would always just say 4G when roaming.
Would ninja morph allow me to have the appropriate 4G, 3G, or 1X icon display instead of the R icon?
Not really is just going to replace the icon

I've got a workaround that I'm pretty satisfied with:
I'm using a Network Monitor application that provides a "service level" widget in the upper bar of the screen.

CM11 does show the mobile data icon. Normally. Can you supply a bit more detail on your problem?

I'm confused. What icon do you think is missing?

The 'R' shown next to the SIM1 signal level indicator in your first screenshot suggests that your device was out of coverage area for your home network provider 'IND AIRTEL-1' and had therefore "roamed" on to another provider's network (that IND Airtel presumably has a roaming agreement with).
My understanding is that when a device is roaming, the H/H+/E/G/3G/4G indicators are not used, just the R. Is that not the case?

My mistake perhaps then.
So, you used to have both the "R" and the H/H+/E/G/3G/4G indicators on at the same time?

An unofficial build of @dhacker29's official CM11.
I am yet to see the R displayed simultaneously with any of the other indicators probably because my device hardly roams (and I switch mobile data off when I travel).
Is your data connection speed affected? Is the mobile data link noticeably slower when roaming than before when you were running stock or is it purely a notification display issue/glitch?

Not the data connection speed is not affected . I think it is only a notification display issue and the mobile data indicators are not displayed even when the device is not roaming.
Did you figure out how to add the data type icons?
On my Note 2 (T889v) stock rom (4.4.2) while roaming I see the mobile data type I am getting. See attached screenshot.
However, on any of the following custom roms (slimkat, liquid smooth, omni, and cm11) I only see R for roaming, but I do not see the data connection type icon (H/H+/E/G/3G/4G etc).
I have tried using the kernels packed with the custom roms as well as agni kernel, but never seem to be able to get the mobile data icon.
Bump.

Mobile data "H" mark appears over my signal bars although mobile data is disabled.

Mobile data "H" mark appears over my signal bars although mobile data is disabled.
Hello, After successfully trying to root my Z3 Dual 5.1.1.
the new pre-rooted stockrom had something weird in the status bar, it is that the signal bars always has the mobile data "H" sign although mobile data is disabled.
Is it a visual bug ? or it is not visual and is draining battery and keeping the data online 24/7 ?
My original region is MENA Egypt, but the prerooted rom is Brazil.
Thank you,
TL;DR : Mobile data disabled, But the "H" mark is still up there at the signal bars.
