Question Some issues on Snapdragon S22 Ultra - Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

Firstly, the fingerprint scanner. It's pretty wacky, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it works with wet hands sometimes it doesn't wanna work with dry hands even. Note : I have a screen protector on it, not a glass one, just a regular one. I heard glass screen protectors will mess with the fingerprint scanner so got a regular one. I've had these fingerprint scanner issues since before I applied the protector so I'm guessing it's not just the protector's fault.
Secondly, I don't know if the speaker itself is like this but the earpiece speaker distorts a lot when listening to mostly bass to mid-range focused stuff. For example let's say pianos or vocals, or even just yt videos. pretty unpleasant.
There's also some banding problems in the UI that's pretty annoying, also the unlock wallpaper animation seems to be bitrate starved, is it just me? Examples
I updated to One UI 5 as soon as I could because everyone was saying the phone got "fixed" and there were no stutters or anything. But it felt quite similar to my experience I've had since I got the phone. I don't know what's wrong, everyone's saying the phone feels extremely smooth now, I mean it does feel smoother but there's constant glitches/bugs/stutters. There's also a lot of unexplained slowdowns when scrolling in some apps, it isn't completely stuttery but it doesn't feel smooth. Feels like it goes down to 60 hz or stops and continues at some points. Some apps also like to just shut down/crash. Extremely annoying. By the way, I've done the animation improvement thing in the developer options, halving the animation speeds. I can't go back now lol
The display also likes to go under 120 hz a lot, the fingerprint scanner animation isn't 120 hz and it's noticeable when unlocking. When playing some games and pulling down the quick panel, it stays in 60 hz. Also in some games it likes to jump between 60 hz and 120 hz a lot, which makes a pretty weird experience. Some games even go down to like 30 hz when launching and at some random points. For example, in Jurassic World the refresh rate just bounces up and down, sometimes 60 sometimes 120. In Colour Switch, the refresh rate goes down to like 30 hz when launching, I have a feeling it's because of the google play games thing coming down, whenever it comes the refresh rate goes down. Also, when scrolling through the game modes the refresh rate is constantly jumping or the something's going on because the scrolling is how i mentioned before, extremely weird and not smooth.
When watching a video on MPV and bringing the quick panel down, the display is stuck at 60 hz and makes for a very weird experience. The phone gets incredibly hot when using MPV to watch 4k 60 videos and the brightness goes down a lot. Like it gets capped at 30%, I understand why it's happening but damn didn't expect it to get so hot. I tried using bilinear upscaling and downscaling filters but even then it was just as hot as using lanczos or spline 16 even so i just stuck with lanczos. I even tried disabling the debanding but nothing much changed, it got hot within 5 minutes still so I just kept using it. When using something like MX Player or Just VIdeo player it doesn't get as hot and the brightness stays constant but the noticeable banding is extremely annoying.
I'm still confused, it shouldn't use that much power I mean it barely hits 10% usage on my CPU and GPU on my PC and I'm using a mid range R5 5600x and RX 6700 XT. I'm using ewa lanczos sharp on PC and just lanczos or spline 16 on phone sky rockets the usage. Maybe I had too much expectation on the phone's SOC?
Anyways, I guess the last part is not about the phone I guess but it was a problem that I felt had to be talked about. I'd like to see some insights on this, is it just me or is the phone supposed to be like this?

youbseem really disappointed with this device, in general, only few people get this level of frustration, it happens all the time, there will no remedy due to the magnitude of your disatisfaction, my honest advice is that you look for some other device that fulfills your expectations, which clearly this device can not

I upgraded from an M32, I previously used an S8+ and S7 Edge. I wad very satisfied with those but this is just not as consistent as those. What hurts more is that this is more expensive than those. Honestly, I've looked into the smartphone market and nearly none fulfill my expectations. My main problem is the fact that it's heralded as an improvement over the past ones but it's not consistent. A consistent 60 hz experience is far superior than a stuttery, buggy 120 hz experience. I'm extremely happy with the design, build quality, Display (mostly bought it because of this) software look/feel( I really love how One UI looks and functions, when it does so properly, compared to other phones) software support and cameras. It's just that the user experience is pretty compromised other manufacturers aren't any better overall. A couple of my acquaintances have faced problems with Oneplus phones, resulting in faulty screens and stuff. My uncle had to get rid of his google pixel 6 because it was quite frankly unusable . Xiaomi doesn't like to update and I don't like their UI. Vivo's UI looks ok but I'm not sure about consistency for example gsmarena said that it overheats and doesn't have HRR in games. Gaming phones do not get proper updates for long and are too expensive for what they are. Finally, I feel like Oppo is a tad behind everyone else at this price point. The X80 Pro and 12S Ultra seem like proper ultra type phones, the find x5 pro seems like a lower tiered phone in the camera department.
I had thought about this a lot but I was just kind of disappointed in this purchase. Really happy with some stuff and even most stuff when it works correctly, it just doesn't want to work correctly and as I said near the end of the post. I just wanted to know if it's just me or are others experiencing this well?

Personally, I don't have the banding issues that you got with lock screen and sound bar

After android 13 installation I also noticed it was butter smooth experience until 2-3 days ago .. now I can see visibly lag or shutters again ..
I dont know about other issues you mention here ..
But I do noticed one thing .. S22 ultra poor reception than a cheap branded phone available on market

I had the bit starving issue with the animated lock screen, when it's animated it looks blocky. The wallpaper is fine for me

Restarting the phone occasionally helps in increasing speed somehow. And reception for me has been fine for me. Unfortunate circusmatances for you I guess.

[Q] is Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus a good Tablet?

I willing to buy this tablet but i have some questions:
1- How is the battery life?
2- Is the screen to small for reading, movies and games ?
3- How is the resolution and clarity of text?
4- any common problem that faced veteran users
Please answer quickly because i am going to buy this tablet tomorrow
I greatly like this tablet though it is my first tablet.
1. Very good and even better when you tweak certain things in for your general use.
2. Movies are fine, reading is fine and I use it often, games are great also comparability is on the low side of things though.
3.Resolution is fine. It has a dpi of 160 and that's nothing to sneeze at.
4. Common problem are SOD's and the lack of source code for the tablet. (SOD is the sleep of death which is when you turn off the screen and it freezes) those are the two things that stand out to me.

1. slightly above average (of 7" tablets)
2. personally, I think its a perfect size.
3. it's "okay." Not great, but not the worst I've seen.
4. quite a few people have experienced problems called "sleep of death" - which basically means the tablet appears dead with the screen off... the only way to recover is press/hold the power button until the tablet reboots. A handful have had issues with corrupted flash memory that rendered the tablet useless. There have also been reports of wifi issues.
Gary
Thank you guys, that was really helpful
no, its just not snappy, the resolution and display quality is poor, battery life (and more importantly: battery life management) is poor.
unfortunately, apple hasnt produced a 7" ipad... cuz that would be a better choice
i have GN as my phone, so i support the android platform. its just that this tablet isnt very fun to use. ICS may change that... buts its a longing hope that'll wont get raelied
Wow, that isn't even remotely close to the truth. Do you even own one? The Tab Plus is easily the fastest and the nicest built seven incher on the market.

It's more responsive without Touchwiz, though. But it's still faster than the original 10.1, which was rather sluggish on the TW launcher.

now what possible incentive do i have for not expressing the truth?
it may be the best 7" tablet on the market, but that only speaks to the dearth of good tablets in that space. it does not make the 7GT+ a good tablet per se.

and whats with the default browser trying to dim the screen compared to the rest of the environment? utter bunk.
and the fact that certain apps are not available on 3.x. i have nice magazine readers and browsers on my phone... but want to use it on the tab? no go
I love my tablet, though I only slightly somewhat regret not waiting for the 7.7. Basically the same tablet with a Verizon connection that I'd never use, but with a lot nicer screen. However, I was able to get my 7+ for $270 of eBay, and the 7.7 I probably would have to pay full retail at almost $400 more. I like having cutting edge products that I hold onto forever, but I'm not sure the nicer screen is with that kind of premium in price.

Love it, expect ICS to make it even better, and I have no "death sleep" issues, but then I have a refurbished one so maybe they fixed it.
For $275 only thing I know even close is the slower Best Buy version for $250.

1 - I've not had an issue with battery life, using it all day at work then reading before bed. I charge it at night, and I also prefer a very low screen brightness.
2 - I've read 4 novels in the 6 weeks I've owned it. It's maybe a tad small for comics but works OK. I don't have much opportunity to watch movies on it. I do like to use it as a 2nd/3rd screen to run youtube video, video podcasts, or a TV episode while doing something else on my computer.
3 - Text clarity is fine. I use Aldiko for reading and have the font set to Molengo set at 16 it looks great and is very comfortable for me to read.
4 - Not sure what is meant, I'm a veteran technology user and this is my first Android device. With that in mind the biggest issue I have with the device is that after an extended web browsing session it will heat up on the upper left side of the tablet. Also the tablet is picky about power, you will have to use the factory adapter or go out of your way to find a workaround to charge the device.
Overall I'm very satisfied. I think I would also have been satisfied with the 2 version vs the plus. I really love the form factor, the sd slot is handy, and it has good overall performance.

Motorola Moto X - Review

Moto X – Review
I had been hearing lots about the Moto X but it wasn't on my radar for phones to check out. Then out of the blue I had an opportunity to get my hands on one, so I figured why not.
The biggest thing to remember about the Moto X is that it is not a hardware monster. It wasn't desgined to take on the Note 3 or similar top of the line phones in benchmarks, it was designed to be unique, be extremely well optimized and provides a great user experience. So lets see what Motorola have brought to the table.
Display
The Moto X is a smaller phone by todays standards and has a 4.7 inch display. At that size you can get away with a 720p and get the benefits of reduced battery consumption. That's what they did and I think it was the right choice. The screen is repsonsive, bright and looks pretty good overall. To make sure their phone is durable they went with Gorilla Glass to keep the front safe.
Software
The biggest asset the Moto X has, is its software. Motorola have obviously taken the time to think about what would enrich the users experience with a mobile device. It’s the small things they have worked in that all add up to leave a noticeable impression at the end of the day.
The phone does a good job walking you through its unique extras, teaching you what functions are available and how to use them. I really liked the always listening access to Google Now. Even when the device was asleep, Google Now was accessible. Turning your wrist twice will activate the camera, and only a single touch on the screen is required, making it easy to take pics with the phone in one hand and using your thumb to snap the pic. The list goes on, but you get the point. Add in the fact that the phone is incredibly optimized allowing far better performance than the hardware would indicate, and you have a solid offering.
WiFi
The Moto X has 5 Ghz and 2.4 Ghz Wifi. I tested them by taking a reading directly beside the router, another reading at the furthest point on my upper level, and a 3rd set of readings at the furthest point in my basement.
5Ghz
-27 mbps at the router
-14 mbps upper level
-4 mbps basement
2.4Ghz
-30 mbps at the router
-27 mbps upper
-25 mbps basement
These are fairly descent speeds as I've had some devices get almost unusable signal upstairs, and no signal at all in the basement.
Call quality
I’m not a big talker, I would much rather text. From the calls I did make, I can say the phone is fairly clear. I listened from my end and then had someone call me using the phone while I listened. I would definitely give the phone a thumbs up.
Speaker
The speaker in the Moto X really surprised me. It wasn't the loudest or clearest speaker I’ve heard but it was pretty darn good. It had just enough volume and remained crystal clear even when maxed. I could even feel a little bit of bass in my hand while testing, something many mid to lower end phones lack.
Video playback
I tested the playback with HD clips from YouTube as well as a movie played through VLC player. The phone handled both situations well, as would be expected with a phone using an Adreno 320. Although it’s last years GPU tech, it still has more than enough grunt to play media with ease.
Web browsing
The Moto X wasn’t the snappiest device for browsing but it held its own. At no point did I say “Man , these pages are taking a long time to load”
You can check out the Vellamo HTML5 scores further down in the review.
GPS
The GPS was on par with other Qualcomm device testing I’ve done. It locks quickly and holds its connection at all times.
I put the phone into Airplane mode to eliminate data assistance and got a cold lock in 20 seconds.
Subsequent locks were less than 5 seconds.
Cameras
The 2 MP front facing camera proves you don’t need huge mega pixel numbers to produce a nice image. The selfies I took were really nice and more than expected from the device. The rear 10MP camera was ok in well-lit conditions but suffered from a green hue in lower light conditions when the flash was used. Overall, I would say the rear camera could have been done better and needs an upgrade.

Benchmarks
This is where I feel the optimization came into play. For an older tech processor that was bumped down to a dual core, the Moto X did ok.
Antutu = 22,083
CPU Prime = 3377
Nenamark 2 = 60.8 fps
Vellamo
HTML5 = 1445
Metal = 730
Battery
It was pretty easy to get a full day out of the Moto X with moderate usage. It also did ok in regards to screen time. I played movies on the phone taking it down to 9%. I put the screen on auto and I managed about 6hrs 45 minutes but forgot to start a new movie a couple of times, so the device probably could have handled over 7 hours of playback.
Gaming
I tested the phones gaming abilities with Dead Trigger 2 and Asphalt 8. The games defaulted to a mid-range graphics setting but I manually set them to high graphics. The phone played both games fairly well thanks again to the Adreno 320. It wasn’t as responsive and smooth as my Lenovo Vibe Z which uses an Adreno 330 but hey, that’s to be expected.
Conclusions
Many people say the Moto X is way overpriced for what it is. To a certain extent I agree. In regards to hardware and specs it’s hard to justify spending the asking price. What makes the phone worth taking a look at, is its uniqueness. Motorola have tried to do something a little different and in my opinion succeeded. There are rumblings about a new updated version coming this summer named the Moto X+1. I would hope they take a look at a better camera/flash combo, and add an expansion slot for extra memory. I am interested to see if the Lenovo purchase impacts Motorola’s strategy and direction or if they will leave them to continue their own course.
Do you think anything will change?

Does it feel smooth? I'm currently deciding if I should buy this phone or the Mate 20 lite (I'm buying with Tre at the same price), I really like the screen and the camera but the SoC is slower on the A7. As long as it is a smooth UI I'll buy this one, since I'm not that interested in graphics demanding games and CPU intensive apps, I just need it to be usable without lags and random freezes.

Don't buy the Mate 20, i bought one before getting the A7, the screen in the Mate 20 is really bad, has one of the grey "ish" blacks I've seen on any recent phones, my unit also had a problem with hot pixels that were only noticeable on black colors in very dark environments

Is it really that bad? I mean, it's an LCD, obviously OLED screens are better, but I was told and I found online that it's a fairly good LCD for a mid-range phone. Also, I don't really mind the screen, I just need a smooth system, and from experience I know Samsung ones can be quite heavy. On the other hand, after two years and a half of EMUI I'd like something that looks newer, and Huawei has recently stopped providing bootloader codes for free. That said, I'll still keep EMUI if it means that it's smoother.

The Mate 20 has a faster chipset, if your priority is power then i guess that's your best option, having said that, the A7 is a very smooth device, i have not found any stutter or any apps that struggles to handle, i think the experience is very good
i primarily use my phone for media consumption and was very disappointed with the screen and audio quality of the Mate 20, the volume with headphones is below average in volume
this is the way i see it:
Mate 20
pros
faster chipset
feels very premium in hand
cons
screen not as good as the A7
sound volume and quality are below average
has a notch
A7
pros
fantastic screen without a notch
very good audio quality (has dolby atmos)
better camera than the mate 20
is widevine L3 certified so you can watch netflix at full hd
you get always on display
cons
the device is very light in a cheap kind of way,
front camera doesn't have autofocus
the side bezels are a bit bigger than we are used to in 2019, i'll take that over a notch
doesn't have usb type-c
i hope that helps with your decision

well, the xiaomi mi A2 is almost half the price of the A7, only $ 180, i don't think is a fair comparison, the A7 is better in every single way but that's to be expected from a device twice the price
if money is not a problem i would go for the A7, if you are on a budget and want to save some money then i guess the xiaomi is a good option, i've never had a xiaomi device so i can't really tell you what to expect

Thanks a lot, a check with Smart Switch revealed that there is an update for the Netherlands as well. I guess for a lot of other European countries tool. Rooted phones will not receive the update OTA, you must manually download it. For that you can use Sammobile.com which is excruciatingly slow however. If it works, use SmartSwitch instead. It is ree, quicker, less of a hassle and you can be sure you get the right version for your phone.

Youre getting a way better camera, super amoled, one ui with a7. One ui is the best skin right now.
Mi a2 has sd660 which is slightly better in gaming and youre getting android one. Better updates.
For me, id go with a7 because of one ui and the camera. Go with mi a2 if you feel like gaming but battery is terrible

Unlocking frames-per-second limit on fps-locked games?

There are Android Emulators that can force other games to run at 60 FPS even if they are 30-FPS locked, android system on Bluestacks CN version do it for all games, even for games like Ragnarok M SEA, Asphalt 9, and Fortnite who are well known to be locked at 30 FPS only.
The question is, can we do this on Oneplus? On an actual android device? What did Bluestacks CN do to their android OS that enables them to force-unlock those FPS-locked games?
Hilarious how they advertised 90hz so much when in reality, it's really an impractical feature. So is it worth getting $700 phone just for that sweet 90hz? ?

Im not an expert on BlueStacks as it sucked 5 years ago, but now it can use native harware as GPU it should have the access to cache and delivery you the info to your display using computer performance instead of mobile limited performance as before. Smartphones, Read Game info from ROM, forward it to RAM, process it in CPU, sendt GPU and Display.
BlueStacks Opens it's Virtualization in the computer RAM (it uses set CPU to operate itself as windows software but most RAM you set is to recreate the game or whole android OS) In the RAM it reads, creates, replicate (emulates) and Then fowards that copy to GPU with NEW instructions to render it at set Fps, then To display, provided that it is lighter than a normal windows app, it should do the job just well. It does more precessing but using superior hardware that helps it mimic the instructions and catapults it at a higher frame.
Never even claimed that fps is same as refresh rates. You cannot take advantage of 90hz if the app is capped at 60fps. And the reality is that 90% of apps on playestore are capped at 60fps and probably will never change any time soon. So was it worth removing headphone jack and expandable storage for that sweet 90hz? ??
I bet everyone here would prefer to be running the LG V2O instead...lol.
In case some of you guys do not know, Vsync is ALWAYS turned on in Android, so and Refresh Rate ADAPTS to FPS. in an uncapped state, for example, Vainglory, it can run at 120 Hz, it's also on 120 FPS SINCE VSYNC IS TURNED ON.

My main device is Note 9 you pleb. I bought LGV20 as my backup phone and also to experiment with it and try its quad dac. It's dirt cheap on Ebay anyway. But even still lgv20 is stil better than OP7 for simply having everything. Enjoy your iphone rip off.
Edit:mate enjoy OP leaking your email :good:
Sounds plausable... enjoy your modern phone mate!

Lol unfortunately you're wrong there buddy. The difference is hugely noticeable; it's the only reason why ASUS/Razer "Gaming phones" have such a buttery looking display. Refresh rate=/=FPS. Refresh rates are an entirely different beast then FPS. Refresh rates function on a different aspect of our biological being- Fusion Flicker Threshold. 60hz is considered the most cost effective and pleasing refresh rate for most of humanity- and that's true. But, you're bound to notice the very slight flicker or jankiness or 60hz next to a higher refresh screen.

Idk, people seem to have an agenda against OP & the userbase. The V20 guy doesn't even own the phone.. just came & started mocking the company & the phone.

I came to this thread to hopefully find an answer to why I can't just unlock the framerate in games on Android, and of course its full of idiots *****ing about their favorite phones. Can *anyone* here be helpful?

Bro you high or something? I never claimed that there is no huge difference between 60hz and high refresh rates. I own 240hz monitor and I can attest to that.

You cannot. high refresh rate on android is still a joke. No app developer would go out of their way to add higher refresh rates on their apps. There are few apps but they're 1% Stop treating your mobile devices as gaming devices. With the money you bought your 90hz-144hz phone with, you could've already bought a 240hz monitor with that lol.

Question Should I buy a Pixel 6 or 6a?

Hey guys, I hope you are having a good day!
So I'm planning to buy my first Pixel phone. Super excited. I'm a big sucker for Pixel phones' cameras and their Pixel-exclusive features. So far I've been using a low-tier Samsung phone so I want to take this big step with the correct phone.
I'm expecting and would be using the new phone to take a lot of photos, from close-ups of flowers and bugs to portraits to pictures of landscapes. AND I LOVE IT WHEN I CAN ZOOM AND SEE THE DETAILS. I don't game much, except for some casual CODM now and then. A faulty fingerprint reader won't really bother me. The lack of an audio jack isn't an issue. I'll be using only 4G. As for battery life, it's around 6 hours on average.
Something I'm really concerned about is the overheating issue. I live in a tropical country, where outside temps can easily get 30 Celsius, though I won't be using it in direct sunlight much. A big turnoff would be issues with the Silicon, where the bugs/problems would be uncorrectable since I wouldn't be able to easily RMA from where I live. I don't need the telephoto lens or the 120Hz screen. So I don't think the 6 pro is an option.
So, what do you think? Which one should I go for, and why?
I'm getting the 6a. I tried the the Pixel 6 but had to return it because the fingerprint sensor was horrible and other minor negatives with the Pixel 6.
It sounds like you don't really need a powerful phone, so I think the 6a would be perfect for you. I don't recall if the Pixel 6 heated up on me personally or not, but from reviews, people did say that Pixel 6 heated up and the 6a warmed up to a lesser degree. Like you, I also don't need telephoto lens or 120Hz.
I don't take much macro shots, but you can take a look at pictures that people have taken with the 6a and see if it's acceptable to you. Me personally... I just need good pictures from my phone. If I want better shots, I would bring my Sony RX100 or other cameras. From the reviews I watched of the 6a, the photos are great but they're not spectacular bc of the older sensors on the 6a. That doesn't bother me, but it might be a dealbreaker for you. That's because with a bit of photo editing, I can make the photos shine. The Pixel 6a also shoots in RAW format, so you could always edit your photos afterwards to compensate for any deficiencies.

you do know that the 6as fingerprint sensor is way worse and really unsecure?
also it has ui lag, but i think that will be fixed soon...

I should receive my 6a within the next 2 days, so I'll have to test it out and see if there are any dealbreakers for me. Worse case, I can always return it.
Yeah, I saw reports of the fingerprint sensor issue that came out in the last 24 hours. Hopefully the fingerprint issue is not widespread. I watched another youtube reviewer where he couldn't replicate the fingerprint issue. He tried, I think, 6 unregistered fingers and also had his wife try a few fingers, but wasn't able to unlock the phone.
With the ui lag issue, I'll have to test it out and see. If it's due to the screen being 60Hz and not something else, then I'm ok with the 60Hz. I currently have the Pixel 4XL and I force it to 60Hz. Also, I always turn off most of the android animations anyway (from developer options), which I find makes the ui feel faster.
I own both (my wife just got the P6a). I would absolutely recommend the P6 over the P6a - even to the point of suggesting buying a used P6 over a new P6a if cost is a concern. Used P6 pricing is about the same as the full retail P6a price right now.
I got the P6a only because of the generous pre-order trade in values Google was giving, along with the free earbuds that brought the effective price of the P6a down to less than $100. If I had to pay full retail price for the P6a, I would absolutely have bought a used P6 instead.
Best battery life I've had on a phone. It has very good standby time like the Samsung A52s. The battery was already great from the first charge, which was unusual. I don't know how much worse it would be on 4G though. I assume 5G will eat the battery, so I disabled that already, like on all my phones. Pixel 6a really pits a smile on my face. The fingerprint works 98% of the time. I can almost say it works better than my Samsung S22. But it doesn't work when it is cold outside, at less than 7°C anyway.
Camera is great and screen is very nice and smooth. I think it is only in scrolling that 120Hz has advantage over it. However, I use 60Hz on my S22 anyway, so I don't care.
