Question I have revived my Poco X3 Pro from sudden death - Xiaomi Poco X3 Pro

I have revived my Poco X3 Pro from sudden death, if... How?
I disassembled the whole thing, took out the motherboard, coated it with aluminum except the SOC/Memory area, put it in the oven at 170ºc 10 min, let it cool 30-40min, assembled it, it worked the first time.
The phone is now perfect and cooler than I remembered (I put mx-4 thermal paste). Now I have a Poco X3 Pro next to my Poco X4 GT. I am very happy right now.

Not for long time I thing, because chip shold be reballed and in your case it is called soldering on snots... any standard overheating (soon or at summer temperature) will bring you back to reality It is standard repair in dishonest service centers for all electronic devices (not oven of course).

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro Moisture Build Up

Hi. I have a Xiaomi Note 7 Pro for 4 months now . Woke up and the screen would not come on. It was freezing slightly the other day so i plugged in the charger to see if it needed a boost. Nothing. No notification light or anything. I keep my phone in a plastic/silicone phone case that i bought when purchasing the phone. I took the phone out of the case thinking maybe the port is being blocked by the case and tried charging it again and still nothing. Then i unplugged the charger and recognized that the plug was wet. Took out my sim tray and they are wet too. Now i never dropped my phone in any water at all. What could have caused this? Must I avoid phone cases? The phone will not turn on but when i try to turn it on it heats up. The first time i tried turning it on it vibrated a little then never again. Can someone please tell me what may have happened? That's US $300 gone down the drain. I literally cried cuz it was a huge sacrifice to buy that phone and I really loved it. I am located in Kingston, Jamaica. Help!!!
You swimming with your phone? or you put your phone in your pants and sweat a lot ?

Nope. I am a very careful woman when it comes to my phones. I normally change phones when the Android gets old and certain apps can no longer work with it. That is how long phones last for me. I do not know how to swim and i do not keep phones in my pocket...i am against that idea all to complete. I am doing some reading and someone mentioned on another forum that TPU cases can cause heat build up and hence moisture will develop. Would that amount of moisture be enough to damage the phone? Because the case i had is indeed TPU. My environment is not very hot either. Nor too wet. Also I am left to wonder if I should avoid cases altogether...but i need to protect my phone. Mind you, i am not the clumsy type...but just very careful.
For that, first put it on Rice during 3 days or a week.
Then, try again to switch it on.

If it was in the rain then i would understand but it was never in the rain nor near a window for any rain to get to it. I doubt it can be saved again. Its been 2 days now and still nothing. It is not even heating up. Its completely gone. And to make matters worse, I cannot even make use of the warranty because it will cost me 1/2 the money spent to buy it to send it to Xiaomi for them to look at it or even try to repair it. Also, there is no Xiaomi distributor in Jamaica hence I cannot even try to have it repaired. Its a complete loss. Guess I will have to avoid these brands in the future since if there is an issue with the phone there will be little to no chances of it being repaired. Yes, i would have tried to repair it since i actually enjoyed the phone.

So its been a week now and i tried it again. The notification light finally comes on and was able to give it charge. Then I tried turning it on. It vibrated. And then notifications keep coming in. But.......no display. So it is working again but the display is gone. Is it worth trying to fix that? Often times I hear that repairing the display of a phone is almost the cost of a new phone. So im indecisive on this one. I bought a Samsung Galaxy S10+ as replacement. My only issue is that the camera for the Redmi is better but oh well...

If the only thing that's damaged is the display, you can get a cheap local replacement, it won't really matter( They usually replace the glass, the touchscreen is below that, but this phone's got Gorilla Glass 5, dunno how it would affect that). But if the water has affected a major component, booting the phone might have shorted it or damaged it further.

Ok. Well I hope nothing else is wrong with it. Also, it turns out there are repair folks here in Jamaica who repairs Xiaomi. I had no idea Jamaicans bought Xiaomi phones! Found out the cost to install the glass and its cheap to my surprise! Its my first so...you know.... Anyhow, now I need to force turn the phone off cuz all alarms keep going off at their time of day as well as notifications from the many apps I have keep coming in. Its getting annoying man. Its gonna take a while for the battery to die cuz trust me, it really does last long which is why I love this phone.
Anyway, many thanks for the help guys! Its greatly appreciated!

You can try again for another week on rice.
If there are repair center great, they could test connexions.
Otherwise, you can also search at YouTube for DIY screen replacement and find it in AliXpress.

On my 4th new LCD Screen

I have owned this Mi Mix Pro LTE 4G phone since it became available on the Chinese Market (I think I purchased it at GearBest, do not quiet remember).
My first year in, I dropped and cracked the screen 4 months in to ownership. It was difficult and expensive to get a replacement screen, but more so in finding a repair shop who would attempt the repair.
I then broke the frame end of year one due to another drop, my phone was knocked off my desk. Thankfully the screen survived, and the phone still worked.
Eventually, the screen developed a crack and I used it that way for the rest of year two of ownership.
End of year two beginning of year 3 I then had a light drop, and the screen just stopped working (being of this year). I ordered a replacement screen online and waited about a month to receive it.
I was using this phone less and less, and then came back to it because of the overall size of the screen, I simply love it. So I looked up several well written how to's and videos and did it myself. When replacing the screen, I had ordered a frame as well. I did it myself with all the available how to videos out there. The screen proved defective, despite the fact the vendor stated it was an oem screen, which it definitely was not. I have not been able to find an oem screen. Many vendors advertise and say it is, but it is not ( the flex cable is completely different, and the attached circuitry completely different as well. More importantly, the screen color is not as rich).
I reordered another screen and I also purchased a new non oem battery that is supposedly 6000mah cough, cough. I have again replaced the screen and I'm now resetting and testing the new battery.
I simply love this phone. I tried the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, the Mi Mix 2s, almost bought the Mi Mix 3 (glad I didn't), and tried the Xiaomi mi 9T pro. The screens are just not as wide, and therefore to my eyes, not as big. Quite simply, they say they are over 6.47" but the screens are narrower and taller, hence slimmer.
I will keeping chugging along with my Mi Mix and will keep replacing screens if need be until a try equivalent becomes available from Xiaomi.
Cheers

Is it worth buying over a display dead Oneplus 6?

Hello guys, I need some advice on purchasing Oneplus Nord. My apologies if I violate any community guidelines.
I own an oneplus 6 and its display got damaged. I own it since its launch and I am a heavy user and it has seen its fair share of wear and tear. I also have old moto g5s plus running custom rooms which I only use for android app development.
The new Oneplus Nord does look compelling for the price but in the market, I see realme phones with snapdragon 855 chipsets. I do rely on custom ROMs once the manufacturers update window passes but I am not a die-hard Rom hopper.
Please suggest me if it is a good idea to purchase the OnePlus Nord to use it for the next 2 to 3 years with stock OS and then use it for development purpose with a custom ROM.
OR should I just replace the Oneplus 6 screen and call it a day??
PS: I have never experience 90Hz screen refresh rate.
Thank you
How much would the screen repair cost you? I personally wouldn´t do it if it´s ~100$.
Is your OP6 still usable? Then why not use it for develpment and get a Nord. You can always mirror/stream the OP6 display onto your PC if it´s too damaged and use it that way.
i have a OP5 with display issue as well.. the original touch screen went unresponsive three months ago.. display was fine though.. i checked OP repair and they charged HK$23xx (around US$300) for replacing the touch screen, the motherboard and the battery, so basically everything except the frame.. i chose to replace with a 3rd party touch screen for HK$700 (around US$90).. it worked for 3 months and then the touch screen did not respond again.. now i understand why OP repair quoted to replace the motherboard as well as i think its not just the display part but also fault in the main component..
now im using this OP5 exactly as @Saiger mentioned, connecting it to PC via USB cable and control it from the PC..
had considered OP7 and OP8 but their prices are beyond my acceptable range.. kept an eye on Nord and now its finally announced.. the spec seems good (not top grade but good for my usage) and price is okay.. so i shall definitely get it in Aug when its available..
just wanna share my experience for your reference..

Yes, that is my fear also. I had a Micromax(Indian Phone Company) phone with dead display and after replacement, the touch went crazy. So I am afraid to repair my Oneplus 6.
Thankfully I will be giving interviews for some jobs soon. And in India OP will launch a 6/64 GB variant. Depending on my job I'll make the decision.

Poco X3 fingerprint sensor replace

Hello XDA community, anyone knows if fingerprint sensor can be replaced?
And anyone knows if the sensor is the same as other xiaomi models? I'm asking because I couldn't find it anywhere on web...
Thanks for any help.
Of course it can. What is the issue with it?

Thanks a lot for answer.
The sensor not working and not showing up on security screen. Also is FAIL in hardware test.
Also super heating all the time draining all the battery

I would contact Poco or Xiaomi via their website for this. I'm sure it'll be under warranty if you didn't intentionally break it, considering how new the phone is.

Yep, this is the way to go. Use your warranty, by the look of things I'd say there might be a short circuit somewhere inside.
Return the phone to the place where you have purchased it. Instead of getting the single component replaced, just file for a replacement.
Unfortunately I am in the same situation, fingerprint stopped working after a fall and I had to open the phone and unplug the flex cable (goodbye warranty), impossible to find a replacement part as for now, I looked everywhere

Thanks for replying, I've asked my friend, which is a mobile phone technical, and he told me that maybe was impossible to do that. So let me know, how do you disconnect only the sensor without the power button, is that simple?
Thanks again!

Look at the attacched picture, don't mind the red circle, focus on the green one, that's the flex for fingerprint, to access it you have to:
1) remove plastic back cover
2) remove motherboard and camera's cover
If in the future you want to replace the fingerprint sensor it's not hard, I removed it to check the flex cable integrity so I can tell it's easy
WARNING: the motherboard cover screws have seals so if you remove them warranty is gone!

Man, sorry to bother you again.
I was talking with my friend (who's gonna open the phone) and he was telling me that he thinks if he removed the GREEN cable the POWER BUTTON will not work, so I'll not be able to turn on screen. Is this true? This cable only disconnect the Fingerprint Sensor? If not, how can he be able to keep POWER BUTTON working and only "disconnect" the sensor (even if he needs to cut some wires on this cable)?
Thanks for any help!

The power button uses a different flex cable which is not shown in the picture, don't worry, removing the flex i mentioned will only disable fingerprint scanner, power button will still work as usual
I compared Redmi Note 9 Pro and X3 NFC, fingerprint sensor looks identical (connector, cable and button looks the same) Im going to order sensor from 9 Pro and install it on X3 NFC and will report back if it works. Hopefully it does...
Update: Since there is some code on fingerprint sensor cable, I run that code on Google and from search results I found that this sensor is actually used on both Note 9 Pro and X3 NFC

Interesting, thanks for reporting!
Codes on the flex cable are not identical but are really similar, anyway i tried to order it too (ordered it 2 weeks ago on aliexpress), as soon as i receive it, i will report back.
F3626WL is written on both X3 and 9 Pro
RA1 xxxxxxx is different, that's probably serial number or something like that, so its probably dfferent on every cable. Report if it works if you get it earlier than me.

Bought from same seller, ordered blue button, I think it will look neater instead of black.
Well, dropped the phone in water, been in water for 15+ minutes. Had to disassemble it immediately and dry it out. While removing back housing, I damaged the cable...Should've been more careful...
Everything major was completely dry lol, but water got inside screen backlight so there were bunch of marks on screen, luckily after drying it out, there are no marks...Even if this phone is just water resistant, it survived fine in bucket of water for 15 minutes.
Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences, I'm still stuck with the fingerprint broken, and I'll wait @marko.dnb and @fonz93 to reply, so I can buy the Redmi Note 9 Pro sensor.
There's a similar experience from another Brazilian which did that replacement with Redmi Note 9 sensor (in this item: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001506489551.html in comments section)

Well, reading this makes me happy, it's been almost 4 months that i am not using fingerprint, if you're using banking and secured apps you can understand me....i am so tired of typing password/pins every day

Question Considering buying the Asus ROG Phone 5S, have some questions.

So the cat knocked my OP7P off the bedside table while it was charging which has screwed up the charging port (have confirmed it isn't the cable) and now it will barely charge, so I'm in need of a new phone.
I'm liking that the Asus ROG Phone 5/5S has a 144 Hz screen and a huge battery. But:
With the resolution, is the 1080 × 2448 ok? Do you see the pixels at all? Like is it completely smooth?
Also, with the software, does when you enable invert colours mode and blue light filter mode (might be called night mode, alternatively) at the same time (try it on a white background with black text) does the blue light filter mode apply over the invert colours mode (thus making the text red) or does it apply under the invert colours mode (thus making text appear blue), or does invert colours ignore the blue light filter mode (working like it is disabled)?
And how is the battery? What is screen on time like when for example just web browsing or watching YouTube in 144 Hz mode? What is the SoT like when it is on 60 Hz mode. (I ask because my OP7P has crappy SoT when in 120 Hz mode.)
And finally, how is Asus software 2-3 years out from release. I like to keep my phones for about 2 years, how do you think the software support will be 2 years from now (given that the 5 is now almost a year old)? Regarding smoothness and Android version updates in particular.
Edit: does the 5S have a Tencent version? I haven't been able to find any info saying there is, and the site I'll be buying from offers the Tencent version of other phones but not this one.
Thank you!
the oneplus 7 pro is still a great phone by today's standards, why dont you try getting the port repaired? it wont be too expensive.
i dont own an rog phone 5s, but from my experience with oth 1080p and 1440p phone screens, you cant really tell the difference - heck you cant even see the pixels too clearly on a 720p screen. i thought my old phone was 1080p when comparing it with my 1080p phone, turns out mine was 720p the entire time! So yeah, the screen should be just fine.
One thing i will warn you about is that "gaming phones" usually dont have the best cameras, for example, you wont be getting OIS in the rog 5s, whereas your oneplus 7 pro does have that. gamging phones are more about maximising performance, whereas normal flagships are all-rounders. no doubt tho, the rog 5s will surely be faster than your 7 pro (mainly in games), as it has the 888+ chipset
why dont you try getting the port repaired? it wont be too expensive

There are no authorised service centres available in my country, unfortunately, and if I'm going to have to back up and restore data I want to do it to a new phone, not the same phone (this is because I don't like to send my phone in to places that require your lock code, which all the places in my country ask for when doing a repair, so I wipe the phone before I send it in).
Also, I didn't want to wait on the parts which could take like 1-2 months based on the estimates I'm getting from eBay (no parts shops for OnePlus in my country) like at the rate that this port is getting worse, I'll need a new phone before the parts arrive
I could try to repair it myself (I worked in a phone repair shop once), like I think I could get the back off without damaging it I suppose I have nothing to lose other than the back glass lol
And, wow, I didn't realise it didn't have OIS. That sucks big time. Considering the OP10 (when it's out) instead now lol
Anyway, you're right, I'll try to repair it first, then if that fails then I'll get a new phone
I don't think they'd need your lock code to change a charging port tho, all they have to do is test if it works after the repair
If you want to sell the oneplus let me know LOL
At a HUGE discount of course

Yeah, true. Though what plays on my mind was that we were authorised repairers for a few manufacturers, and certain manufacturers (can't remember which ones) required a freaking software reset to complete simple repairs like that. Like hwhat. I suppose I could have asked OnePlus, but I also don't have a spare phone to use while it's sent away.
Either way, I bought the part (charging port+flex and rear adhesive) and I'm gonna try the repair lol.
if the charging port is attached to the flex, then it shouldnt be too tough. be sure to look for a disassembly guide for your phone, so that you dont damage it. use plenty of heat (but not too much) and be careful when prying on the back of the phone as replacing the glass will cost you, and its near impossible to reapply broken glass after removing it, as if you break it during removal it will be completely destroyed by the time you get it off your phone. cheap chinese picks break easily, so if your buying those then buy a couple, and make sure to get the triangular ones, as they are the most effective. its also worth it to use a suction cup to pull the glass back, as it prevents you from possibly putting uneven pressure or damaging the back glass.

Thanks heaps for the tips! Much appreciated!
Would a hair dryer be enough to heat the rear of the phone to a serviceable temperature?
it should be possible, although it would be both tricky and risky. depends on how strong the adhesive is i guess
