Cast app only to chromecast - General Questions and Answers

Hi, does anyone know if its possible to cast a single app from android phone to chromecast instead off screen mirroring the whole screen?
I know that with smartview its possible to choose do something similar, but its not as good as casting because it makes phone screen size small, while also drain battery fastere. Any help is appriciated.
Thanks in advance.

hdmi mirroring to tv not showing full status bar!

does anyone have a fix for the hdmi mirroring being abit off? my status bar only shows half way when i hook it up to my tv. any suggestions on how to fix this? its really annoying me!
I think you have to fix that on your television. It's the same on mine and I believe it is just overscan. My TV has 5% overscan and that is just enough to cut off the top and bottom of the phone's screen.

Have you tried a different cable? You should probably post this in general as this is not development.
Just go to your tv setting and look for something called dot to dot or fit screen, p.mode each tv is a little different, but they all do the same thing. You might even be able to find a button on your tv remote too.
I am assuming since you cannot even follow directions on the forum, it is user error.

Moved to proper forum.
What type of TV do you have? That is the important question. My dad has a DLP projection and overscan is something he's been battling for a long time. Not much you can do if the TV is overscanning everything.
With the stock rom, you could try to change the resolution (420, 720, 1080, etc). Sometimes this can help with overscan. We found that at lower resolutions, the overscan wasn't as bad.
With his TV, we ended up using a S-Video Cable to get rid of the overscan, which isn't an option here (HDMI is digital so 1-1 output, where S-Video is analog).

S-Video? Eeek.. I would accept the overscan over standard definition any day.

[Q] Chromecast screen casting with CM11S

I upgraded to CM11S hoping to take advantage of the Chromecast's ability to cast screens from any 4.4.2+ device. I have the option available in the Chromecast app but when I try to cast my screen it doesn't seem to work. At first it lets me choose the Chromecast to cast to, then I get a dialog box that says it's connected. The Chromecast on my TV goes black for a second then back to the screensaver. On my phone I have a dialog box that says it has been disconnected. Has anyone gotten casting to work on this phone?
Alternatively I went into Settings>>Display & Light on clicked on Cast Screen. I turned it on but it says no devices found.
Is it possible I'm having a router problem?
I have exactly the same question! But in my case it isn't router problem because screen cast works in my tablet. Any further idea?

What we really need is chromecast support!
So far the only app playing AVI it is Google Photos!
We need this app to support chromecast as soon as possible!

I believe that proper UI for screen minorring -- including HDMI out, Miracast, Chromecast -- might be supported in early version of 1.8.x

It is just in technical review stage but will be supported whatever.
And If casting is supported only on limited number of container formats, it would be hard to be called "supported".
any news on this?, I love watching on my TV screen mirroring from my phone, please add the option to screen mirror whilst the screen display is off or make it go dark totally, when I screen mirror with VLC android it turns off the screen but MX player is much better and I would prefer to use it for HD videos, there's no point in watching on TV and my phone is showing the video at the same time, please make this happen.
has this been implemented?

what do you mean?
I am looking forward for this feauture as well to be implemented. Right now I am able to turn off my screen using a third party application which turns off my phone's screen with the proximity sensor but keeps the video playing on my TV, the only problem is that for some reason the subtitles "hang" exactly when the phone's screen is turned off..
Example: I turn off the screen while the subtitles say "Hello" and this "Hello" message will stay there until the video finishes or I turn on my phone's screen again. It will be better if MX Player had an option (for example a button) which turns "off" the screen, and turns it "on" on tapping or double tapping the screen again, so we don't need any third party apps to achieve this result.

What 3rd Party Software do you use to turn off your screen?
I am using Proximity Service (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ss.proximityservice), another alternative to it is Black Screen Of Life (http://bsol.derpdeveloper.com) which works too, but I prefer the first one. They are doing the same thing and both have problems with the subtitles ( I think it's a problem from MX Player since the video doesn't have any problems).

I would also like to know if this feature has been implemented yet?
When I play video with MX Player, connected to my TV via HDMI cable, everything play's fine but screen on my tablet stays ON. Even after choosing Background Play from the menu, the screen stays ON.
If I use the UHD Player(stock and suck(because I can't choose what to play next and it has no settings)) then the screen turn OFF. Please add this feature in MX player, people have been asking for this since 2015 and had this problem since 2012!

Screen mirroring gone in Android Pie?

Hey guys,
did you find the screen mirroring option in the settings? I believe this feature is gone with Pie. Very, very sad.

I really appreciate you're help.

I can't use this to cast a movie I rented on my phone to my Fire TV because "Premium content can't be played on this screen because it is not secure."

I strongly suggest that you post on the note 9 forum
with android pie there isn't the 3 dots in bluetooth & device connection
Hi Jacarta,
Your description for screen mirroring is not quite correct,
In Android Pie the correct description is:-
Settings
Connected devices (Bluetooth, NFC)
Connection preferences (Bluetooth, NFC)
Wireless display
then choose the device you wish to cast to.
Setting
Bluetooth & Device Connection
Connection Preference
Cast
Click the 3 dots (enable screen mirroring)
Mirroring with Pie
You can cast from your device by using the smart view option.
The three dots are not available! It does not exist.
Maybe this will help, I'll try it in the evening:

Thank-you for jogging my memory of where the screen mirroring is.
It is possible that people may be asking how to mirror the screen to a smart TV and not to a Chromecast. My Samsung A3 can use the Sony TV's mirroring feature so there the Chromecast is not involved, but now it seems I can't do that, but it seems that I can now only mirror the phone's screen through Google Home.
So.... With Android Pie, how does someone mirror their phone's screen directly to the Smart TV's native and built-in mirroring option? (For the people who do NOT own a Chromecast.)

There is no such setting there.

iPega 9023s Android software overlay issue over screen projection

Hi guys !
Got an iPega 9023 controller which I use on a daily basis in call of duty.
Connecting and setting up the controller through their app (ShootingPlusV3) and mapping the gamepads buttons on a screen overlay is fairly simple & straightforward and I am able to use the controller as intended.
BUT the problems start when I connect my phone (Huawei P30 Pro) either through a HDMI adapter or use the Wireless Projection mode to cast my screen to another device.
As soon as I cast my screen the overlay no longer matches the actual screen and appears to be tilted at 90⁰.
I even tried using another app that could enable me to set the rotation system wide, but the problem persists.
I have attached some screenshots for a better understanding of the issue.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I am pretty sure I am not the only one encountering this problem and would love to be able to use it while casting on a big screen.
