Screen mirroring gone in Android Pie? - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

Hey guys,
did you find the screen mirroring option in the settings? I believe this feature is gone with Pie. Very, very sad.

Okay thanks, I really seacherd for it but never expected it there. Also it says "Aufnahme" which means record in my language.
I really appreciate you're help.

it appears as if no snow longer works in Android pi, at least not on the pixel XL... Once you enter the cast screen or anywhere in the settings there are no three dots to choose from... Can anyone help to get this working because I have not figured it out myself

I can't use this to cast a movie I rented on my phone to my Fire TV because "Premium content can't be played on this screen because it is not secure."

Casting issues
Since flashing my note 9 to the pie update via my SD card I haven't been able to cast from YouTube or any other app. Any suggestions?

I strongly suggest that you post on the note 9 forum

with android pie there isn't the 3 dots in bluetooth & device connection

Hi Jacarta,
Your description for screen mirroring is not quite correct,
In Android Pie the correct description is:-
Settings
Connected devices (Bluetooth, NFC)
Connection preferences (Bluetooth, NFC)
Wireless display
then choose the device you wish to cast to.
Setting
Bluetooth & Device Connection
Connection Preference
Cast
Click the 3 dots (enable screen mirroring)

Mirroring with Pie
You can cast from your device by using the smart view option.

The three dots are not available! It does not exist.
Maybe this will help, I'll try it in the evening:

Thank-you for jogging my memory of where the screen mirroring is.
It is possible that people may be asking how to mirror the screen to a smart TV and not to a Chromecast. My Samsung A3 can use the Sony TV's mirroring feature so there the Chromecast is not involved, but now it seems I can't do that, but it seems that I can now only mirror the phone's screen through Google Home.
So.... With Android Pie, how does someone mirror their phone's screen directly to the Smart TV's native and built-in mirroring option? (For the people who do NOT own a Chromecast.)

Active display and always on listening

Does the A9 support natively always on google now and active display with the amoled screen? If not, does anyone have recommended apps?
Unfortunately, it does not natively support either - they can both be enabled with apps and maybe some round about hacks. OK Google requires the phone to at least be on the lock screen to work in the stock state.

Hmm... So I understand the OK Google thing, but I wonder why no active display when you can add a dot case? That is effectively the same thing, no?

[Release] MtcdMirroring - an alternative to Easyconnected

Hello,
today I would like to introduce application called MtcdMirroring. MtcdMirroring allows you to mirror and control your Android device by the Head Unit touchscreen.
Application is available on the Google Play Store: link
Application is an alternative to the Easyconnected app, but much more lightweigh and with support of the newest Android releases (Nougat). Right now application can mirror only Android devices.
Features:
* Realtime streaming of touch events allows you to control your Android device by a Head Unit touchscreen.
* Realtime streaming of your Android device screen.
* Forwarding of the Head Unit key presses and Steering Wheel key presses to your Android device (You can install MtcdTools on your Phone and control it like the Head Unit).
* Automatic streaming of the audio over Bluetooth A2DP.
Click to collapse
How to use it?
1. Enable USB Debugging in developer settings on your Android device.
! Owners of Xiaomi devices must enable "USB debugging (Security Settings) as well.2. Connect your Android device to the Head Unit via USB cable.
3. Accept "Allow USB debugging" when your Android device will prompt you
4. Click Connect to the device to start mirroring your Android device.
5. Explore Application Settings to customize your instance of the application.

great work as always!! i will certainly try it
Could you please share the apk here?
Great i was looking for an alternativ app.
Waiting for it to work with iOS devices.
Really slick and fast. Does not work properly on my Samsung s7 edge tho. If my screen is set to HD the mirrored image is a small section in top left. I have to go Quad HD, to get the screen to be mirrored and fill the screen but then the touch response is way off. I touch the screen and it presses about 2 cm's away

Could you please take a picture how does it look in case of HD? I could not test the app on all devices but maybe I will be able to fix it.
Edit: I think I know where the problem is. It looks like S7 has different aspect ratio than the HU. Tommorow or at Saturday I will try to prepare a fix.
Android 4 support?
I'm guessing head unit must be Android 5+? Shame if so as I think most head units on market are still 4+. Anything stopping support for v4 devices?

Yes, HU must be at least Android 5 (Lollipop). Lollipop introduced alot improvements for the codecs which are used in MtcdMirroring so I decided to limit it to API 21 and higher.

Attached pictures. Only WQHD (2560 x 1440) filled the entire screen but touch screen is way way off on all resolutions.
Thanks!
@Dec64, thank you very much for the pictures.
Also three short questions:
1. Could you please post here info about your HU (MTCD,MCU).
2. Resolution (1024x600,greater or smaller?) and screen size (7 inches, 10 inches)
3. In case of QHD, have you observed any touch malfunctions?
Thanks in advance.

It must be installed on the Head Unit.
I'm unable to use the software.
Head Unit: PX5 8-core A53 Cortex @ 1.5GHz, 2GB RAM, 32GB storage with KGL MCU
Phone: Nexus 6P with PureNexus ROM
I'm connecting my phone via one of the rear-mounted USB ports on the head unit (which appear to be USB host ports, rather than the OTG port on the front). When I connect and start your application, I'm able to connect briefly, getting a screen capture from my phone. However, within a fraction of a second, I get a message saying that the connection has been lost. Sometimes I am able to exit the application, but sometimes the entire system hangs. I do have Xposed installed, but the only plugin I'm running is AppSettings, and I don't have any settings configured for your application.
Is there anything you can suggest?
Great replacement for Easyconnected..
However it doesn't work on my case though. Screen cast fine, but touching is way off.
My HU has 1024x600 resolution, and my phone has 1920x1080.
Plus, if you can force the screen of the mobile to be landscape, it would be awesome
It did not work properly. Could you advise me anything?
Phone:XperiaZ4(marshmallow)
HU: Joying MTCB(RK3188-1024)
Thanks

It looks like a problem with the USB connection. Have you tried to connect the phone with different USB cable? Also maybe your phone needs more current than USB port can deliver. In developer you should be able to change USB connection type. By default it is MTP connection - try to change it to something like "charge only" and test.

It is possible but it is quite risky . In case of any USB connection interruption MtcdMirroring would not be able to "undo" such settings and you would stay with the forced landscape orientation. I think you can try to find an application on the Play store which can force the screen orientation.
Someone Can share the apk?

@Dec64 @slumpz version 1.1.0 with improvements for detection of touchscreen resolution is now available on Google Play Store. Please check wheter the issues with touchscreen and hangup have been fixed and share the feedback. Thanks!

Missing tweaks

Hello Everyone,
I'm fresh owner (bouth a week ago) of Honor 9 and I'm very happy with the choise I've made. The phone is incredible fast (comparing from my previous Galaxy S6) and EMUI is well optimised. But, ehm let's complain a bit . I'm courious what kind of feature you're missing on your Honor 9 phone/EMUI. For me the complaining list would look like:
- Missing ability to control notification light - different freq. and color for different apps
- Gesture for home button - there would be nice if "scroll up/down" would trigger to enroll notification arean
- Dim clock as screensaver while charging (very usefull as I'm charging my phone while sleeping, and so could be use as night clock)
- Knock Knock feature on locked phone - to see notification when phone is on the table (I know there is notification LED for it)
Ok that's my complaining list. If you have any idea to overcome such a limitation feel free to suggest. Also don't hesitate to complain a bit as well

I don't think there is a way to over come your complaints without rooting your device. Even rooting your device won't allow you to use the features you want on the home button.

Hi iceepyon,
yes I believe you're right, there the missing feature about home button won't be most probably overcome without ROOTing the device and use custome KERNEL. To by honest with you I'd rather to not use the feature as some application I'm using won't run on ROOTed phones (based on official statements).
Hovewer I believe some of missing feature could be added by some app?Any recommendation?

- most phones nowadays don't have notification light. Probably because the phone spend most of its time in our hands
- I agree with this one. The fingerprint scanner supports swiping gesture
- honor 9 uses ips lcd screen, even if its dimmed, the whole screen still light up. This will heavily drain the battery
- you can use wave on proximity sensor app to turn the screen on

@pijes,
1. Maybe most of the phones doesn't have notification LED (wouldn't be so sure about this one), but Honor 9 does, so ability to control it would be usefull
2. Yeah would be nice, but dunno if if is possible withou kernel upgrading
3. Yes, could be battery dainer, but I'm speaking about situation when the phone is charging actually
4. Can you explain a bit deeper the statement, about to using "waze on proximity sensor app"?

3. Charging and discharging simultaneously can be harmful to the battery health
4. There are a few apps out there that try to simulate the wake screen using gestures and usually they implement it by making use of the proximity sensor. AcDisplay, WaveUp and Glance Plus are among them

Well, there is honestly nothing much which can be done if you want to add the knock on wake feature. Same can be said of the notification LED as those are built into the device's official stock OS. The only thing you can do is install a 3rd party OS and hope that it has some of the features you want. However be warned that most if not all 3rd party OSes do not have the best post image processing software so your pictures won't turn out as good as if you have taken them using the stock OS that came with your device.
@iceepyon, yes I can imagine that most 3rd party OS won't have such a camera software optimalization. Btw, I've read some post about how to enable 3rd party clock as screensaver. I can't understand why Honor/Huawei disabled this feature, which is present in stcok android.

Probably due to security issues. As Huawei has been focusing quite allot on making and keeping their devices secure.
@iceepyon, I really don't know how "clock" screensaver would expose the security more than "image slideshow" screensaver

That is certainly true of rooting or installing custom OSes onto your mobile device. As there are so many things which can go wrong. However current versions of android are now at a point where unless you need to have your device rooted for work purposes. There really isn't a point for the average user to do so.

Android 11 Dev Preview new stuff

I just flashed the new Android 11 beta on my Pixel 4 to just check out what's new and thought we could have a little discussion about some of the bigger changes and opinions. The changes I immediately am excited about are:
1) Finally added a pause/play gesture to project Soli!! (Works fantastic)
2) In the display settings, there is now a toggle to increase display touch sensitivity for screen protectors
3) Added a new qs icon for the built in screen recording
While testing the new Soli pause/play, I also immediately noticed how much more improved all of the hand gestures are. Not just the new pause, but also the skipping forward and backwards are so much more accurate and successful for me. It's an extremely welcome change and while Soli always worked decent for me, on the 11 beta I'm getting about 95%-99% success on all hand gestures compared to my about 80% on Android 10.
The screen sensitivity is another welcome addition for me personally. I have a glass screen protector and with the new option enabled, I can absolutely feel a difference in display response. I will admit that before updating, I hadn't had any screen responsiveness complaints but now that there's an option to improve it, I am very pleased with the results. If anything, it may be a tiny bit too responsive. While typing this post out, Gboard seems to occasionally hit a letter before I actually make contact with the screen. Other than that, it's fantastic. My back gestures seem to be the most beneficial from this.
The screen recording qs icon is a cool new addition, although I had native screen recording enabled on Android 10, there was no super quick way to start a recording session.
Lastly, I noticed a few new things in developer options but as I'm no Dev, I really don't know what they do. Oh, they did add a screen frame-rate overlay so you can see the current refresh rate of your screen.
I will be running this for a few days to see if and how battery life is affected and I'll post my findings here. Feel free to comment additional findings or opinions on the new Android 11 beta!
Here are some screenshots of my findings so far.

Strange, I haven't heard of this being an issue for anyone else yet. I even dirty flashed the 11 beta, didn't erase my userdata so I was expecting issues and it's been flawless. Try re-flashing the Android 11 factory image, that we almost certainly fix your issue.

Yeah, Google pay does not work on it. I received a pop up about it earlier this morning.
For those having face unlock setup issues: Factory reset your phone either in recovery or the settings menu. This happens when you don't clear face unlock before flashing a factory image with the -w option.
(Also, finally hitting my 1000th post with this 10 years later... Can't believe it's been that long)

I just finally got the keyboard and case for the tablet and it automatically puts the tablet into "Productivity mode" when you attach the keyboard.
At first I thought the productivity mode was kind of cool. Until I started opening up some apps that aren't compatible with it at all.
I don't like the keyboard at all. I would like to use a BT mouse but when it connects the onscreen keyboard won't come up. So I just use touch all the time.
Just noticed that every single time I attach the keyboard it auto-starts that 'productivity mode' automatically. I then have to go into settings to disable it as most of my apps aren't compatible with it.
Real pain in the a$$ this is now lol
Every day it drives me mad. How is it that I have Productivity Mode turned off in Settings and it ignores it and turns it on every time I fold the keyboard or attach it?!
I really wish there was a hack to turn it off permanently.

Thank you so much for that. That must have appeared in a recent update. Brilliant, let's hope it works.
regular p11 or xiaxin is already very cheap to buy, so there will be some roms in the near future, however it works fine as it is. No need to rush for a custom rom, android 11 doesn't really offer something new, maybe wiht android 12 we will see some good custom rom out there
...mmmm crazy question
is it possible to flash a samsung rom to this tab?
i had a china tab before(8yrs ago?) that was using a samsung rom

That's strange because I don't have that option at all.
