I have a Nexus S i9020 and I've recently had the oportunity to change my phone with a Galaxy S1 and I nead advice! First of all I don't care about soiftware as I hate stock and I found that all the major roms (like Baked Bleack Bean, or Slim Bean, JellyBam, HellyBean, Paranoid, etc) are available for both phones, sa I ask you guys to help me choose based on pros and cons of both devices:
Nexus S pros:
- it's really really sexy, with the screen turnd off it looks like a black S3 mini or Galaxy Nexus...''mini'', it actually looks as modern Samsungs
- I'm very tall so I got big hands and the fact that Nexus S is thicker than S1 is better for me
- has camera flash and believe me it matters!
- NFC (tottaly useless in Romania)
Cons:
- I hate those 4 buttons under the sacreen
Galaxy S1 pros:
- it has gorila glas
- I can use the S plus battery that is 1650 mAh
Now normally I woulden't traid a Google backed up phone for another, but I really like to use the NaviBar in a rom and I just feel stupid to use the Navi with Nexus case those 4 buttons keep showing up and have the same function as the forementioned bar...but in the S1 eaven if I woulden'
t desable the 3 hardware buttons the NaviBar makes sence and looks like alternative way to move around. HELP! :crying:
Stay on the Nexus S, you'll miss Nexus s very badly, as I am missing my Nexus S after I got Galaxy S2 and sold Nexus S. Nexus S has shape, flash light and great devs here, so my suggestion is Nexus S is your best friend, and about NavBar, You can rotate screen to 180 degree and enable it
You can get an extended life battery for the NS...

Definitely keep it ! I had both the phones and let go of galaxy s. Its preety much the same hardware .... But it seems faster on the nexus . and the nexus is much better looking ..

Yes but I only found Big battery extend paks like 3100mAh, and it makes the phone BIG, I would hawe loved 2100 or 1750, to keep the phones shape

Yes I noticed that hes Nexus is faster than the S, I guess that Google realy knows it's OS...and the fact that it baked up the NexusS until 4.1 counts as well as I found the battery on the Nexus is better than the S eaven if they have the same custom rom...guess its votted now ill keel my sexy phone
well...you might want to go to the galaxy S forums and ask there too, because we'd obviously tend to be biased towards the nexus here.
The Galaxy s has a gorilla glass, but also the nexus s has a resistant glass.
The real benefit that has the Galaxy s is the possibility to take 720p videos.
Yes the Nexus s has the nfc, but sincerely i never use it.
The development scene looks like the same.
imho the devices are equal, choose what you prefer, but the nexus's design is awesome and for this i choose the nexus s. :good:

I loke the look of the nexus better aswell
About the Nexus S buttons, you can turn them off with the app NStools.
Nexus S over Galaxy S:
-Curved glass
-Hand grip at the back (nearly impossible to fall off of your hand while using it)
-Voodoo Sound (paired with good earphones - best sound quality as compared to ANY mobile phone in my opinion)
-For me the hardware capacitive keys are a plus. They add up to the functionality of the device, plus you can just memorize them and turn the lights off.
-No ugly samsung logo at the front (no offense to samsung)
Galaxy S over Nexus S:
-Gorilla glass
-MicroSD card slot up to 32gb (This is the only reason i sometimes hate my NS)
-Thinner
-Lighter
-FM Radio
-720p video recording
Nexus S
No doubt
nexus s is much better

I just bought my new google nexus 5, and I'm very pleased with the screen quality
And I think the screen in bright enough compared to my galaxy s4.
But my question is, if for example the iPhone and the xperia z1 have LED backlighting?
What kind of backlighting does my nexus 5 have? I hope somebody can answer my question?
Thanks

On the Xperia Z2, the screen was unreadable outdoors, if you we wearing glasses that had antiglare or UV coating. Do we know if Sony corrected that in the Z3? I love my Z2, but being unable to read it at all in direct sunlight has been more than a nuisance.... Any comments?

Well, I haven't had any troubles reading outdoors which is weird because the screen of the Z3 is largely very similar to the one on the Z2. So I guess if you were having problems, you might still. From my end I've always found the Z2 screen to be great.

I GUESS (!) that's an effect caused by polarizing sunglasses. So it's the glasses, not the display causing that nuisance. Shouldn't happen with AMOLED displays.

However, it is something that doesn't happen with other LCD screens, like the HTC M8 or the LG G2 and G3 and even the iphone, so it is a problem with the Z2. Do we know if Sony corrected that with the Z3?

I'm pretty sure that Z3 screen is better sunlight viewable due to much higher brightness. You can see it in GsmArena and PhoneArena review.

I had 12GB available before installing apps.
As for the original topic, I've noticed a similar effect on my Galaxy S2 (AMOLED) screen, especially when rotating the device 90 degrees. This was caused by my sunglasses, which are polarized. The effect occurred regardless of lighting conditions and made the screen less readable. Just tested it with the Z3 and the effect is similar but worse.
However, when the device was held in portrait mode, the screen was readable with only a few minor funky patterns caused by the polarization. I've not had the opportunity to test it in bright sunlight with the Z3, but I think it'll be fine.

I know my photos are not the best to check the quality. I hope they can help you to decide!
If I had time, this night (Spain time) I would like a new low light comparison between V10 and S7 Edge.
IMO, I like the details of V10, but at low light I like S7 Edge.
What's your opinion?

Show more V10 vs S7 in low light/night.
Edit : V10 looks better in low light, no yellow tint and more sharp. But S7e has punchy color, but LG has spectrum color to be more realistic.

You sure it was always in automatic mode with the V10 ? here it takes darker pics than the S6E+ whereas usually the LG always take brighter pics than the S6E+ in low light.

No it's not bad. It's just worse that having a sony sensor. You should probably check the threads about isocell vs sony imx in galaxy s6 and note 5 forums. There's a clear difference and let's just say isocell is not the winner... washed out collors, worse clarity, worse low light with puprle fringe on videos and photos at the corners of the frame. I should know, i have an s6e with isocell.

Cool....I'm thinking about going to grab this phone from TMOUS on Friday. Hopefully I get the Sony sensor.
Either way, I'll be happy to be back on Android. I switched to a 6+ and then a 6S+ last summer/fall and I am finally missing Android. Yes there are some things better about IOS but I just feel so limited. Apple not opening it the API really hurts 3rd party app function. The Alarm clock apps along with 3rd party keyboards are horrendous on IOS.

Well when you get it welcome back! I haven't owned an iPhone since the 4 and I see no reason to look back. I enjoy the freedom to brick my phone and do whatever I want for fun. I flashed Android N to my 6P earlier today, and I've been tinkering with my S7E lately. It takes time to get things how you like them plus the journey to perfection is fun.

Exactly.......and I miss that part so much. My wife is sticking with the iPhone because when we switched from the 6 to the 6S, she said she loved how everything on her phone went back to exactly the way she had it. I hated that part. I love starting fresh with a new phone and setting it up all over again.
Plus I have the Jump On Demand and I feel like it's going to waste if I only upgrade once a year to the new iPhone. I'm getting my 3 upgrades a year dammit.

TBH the daylight photos of S7e satisfied me, and it amazed me in no-light condition (the beach photos). Still visible in no-light is mind-blowing.
It's also very very clear that the HDR mode eliminates oil-painting effect and cures the relatively low dynamic range too. All HDR photos I have seen so far are very good, always better than the normal one (feel real, not fake like other HDR photos).
The only thing I care now is the low-light mode. Com'on SS, the low-light mode on S3 and Note 2 was increadible, and you have it on A5 and A7 2016 too, so please give it back to S series.

LOL.....don't get me wrong, my wife still likes Android, she just doesn't care that much. She actually missed her Android when we first switched but I think facetiming with her family made her want to stick with the iPhone.
I will say this though. We have a couple Android tablets along with a couple iPads and I do believe iOS has Android beat when it comes to the tablet interface. Either way, I'm not really a tablet guy anyway. I'd much prefer to be sitting on the couch with my XPS 13 or gaming on my MSI GT72.

How big is the physical size of the actual device compared to share a xz1 compact, or xz2 compact?
Probably same width, thinner, but way longer. Which means bend-gate? I'm going to wait and see how this phone fairs in jeans pocket during reviews.
from my brief hands on time on the IFA, the size difference between it and the S10e is minimal, as well as the XZ1 Compact. Sure, it's a bit of a stretch if you're reaching for the top of the display, but that doesn't bother me - there's a gesture to pull the notifications/quick toggle panel.
I'll definitely get one, if someone ports Samsung One UI (with Dex/Linux on DeX) to it (theoretically should be possible - it's the same 855 as many of Samsung's phones/tablets). It's better than the S10e HW wise.

FWIW, I have yet to see any Sony ad copy calling it compact. This seems to be some vague shorthand being presented by review sites. Sony refers to it as "design[ed] to fit your hand".

But, again... That's not Sony's copy. Do I consider it compact? Not especially. But that's fine, since Sony isn't claiming that...
In fact, Xperia 5 is almost exactly the same size as Xperia 10.
... I don't recall reviewers calling that one a compact phone but I may be wrong.
Narrow ≠ compact

It's just everyone wishing there was a proper Compact and Sony missing the hint again. This thing is as tall as the XZ3. You have to be delusional to call this "compact" just because it's narrow.
Xperia 5 vs. XZ1 Compact
Xperia 5 vs. XZ3
Now, of course it's a great phone regardless. I'll be very interested in it if we get some LineageOS or Pixel Experience development for it. This will be the perfect "rebirth" of the Z3 for me.
