On the Xperia Z2, the screen was unreadable outdoors, if you we wearing glasses that had antiglare or UV coating. Do we know if Sony corrected that in the Z3? I love my Z2, but being unable to read it at all in direct sunlight has been more than a nuisance.... Any comments?

Well, I haven't had any troubles reading outdoors which is weird because the screen of the Z3 is largely very similar to the one on the Z2. So I guess if you were having problems, you might still. From my end I've always found the Z2 screen to be great.

I GUESS (!) that's an effect caused by polarizing sunglasses. So it's the glasses, not the display causing that nuisance. Shouldn't happen with AMOLED displays.

However, it is something that doesn't happen with other LCD screens, like the HTC M8 or the LG G2 and G3 and even the iphone, so it is a problem with the Z2. Do we know if Sony corrected that with the Z3?

I'm pretty sure that Z3 screen is better sunlight viewable due to much higher brightness. You can see it in GsmArena and PhoneArena review.

I had 12GB available before installing apps.
As for the original topic, I've noticed a similar effect on my Galaxy S2 (AMOLED) screen, especially when rotating the device 90 degrees. This was caused by my sunglasses, which are polarized. The effect occurred regardless of lighting conditions and made the screen less readable. Just tested it with the Z3 and the effect is similar but worse.
However, when the device was held in portrait mode, the screen was readable with only a few minor funky patterns caused by the polarization. I've not had the opportunity to test it in bright sunlight with the Z3, but I think it'll be fine.

I have done a lot of reading about the Z3 but I still have some unanswered questions.
-Does the Z3 have a IR blaster? (I have seen both yes and no for this one)
-I currently use a LG G3 cat6 (SD805) and its very fast, how is the Z3 in comparison with its SD801? I benchmark around 47-48k on antutu.
-Is it actually that fragile? I have read through many threads regarding the glass cracking, but it seems that there is no clear answer.
-How does the camera focus in terms of speed? My G3 focuses faster than anything I have used including the S5 and Note 4. Is the quality on par with the S5/G3? (I have also looked through the pictures in the OP for the camera, but are there any owners of both the G3 and Z3 that could do a comparison?)
-I want a waterproof phone as a backup or if I like it enough a primary phone is this a viable choice, or would the Z3c be better?
-How does the screen compare to the G3? I'm used to the 2k display so I don't want to necessarily move down to the 720p of the Z3c, but the Z3 might be alright.
-I wear average jeans not really baggy or tight, will the phone break in my backpocket? I keep my G3 there all of the time while walking and its perfectly fine as my Note 3 was when I did the same thing. Will the Z3 actually break just by walking around with it in there? I never sit on my phones and generally I never drop them, but accidents happen.
I'm still up on the air about getting the Z3. I just want a nice waterproof phone for when the weather gets really bad (which happens very often here). We get about 60inches of rain per year not including snow. I will be using this on ATT if that matters. Any help would be appreciated.
I really don't like answering posts where the signature occupies more space than the post itself; but anyway...

A clear NO ! - I don't know which devil rode Sony for leaving out that feature - but they studiply did.

It is fast enough, feels like an iPhone. Today's Smartphone's processor power is just pure overkill.

Extremely fragile. The material is extremely slippery, it's even difficult to pick the Z3 up from a solid surface.
Tiny scratches on the backplane after a single day of very cautious use.
My display screen cracked after listening to loud music for some hours. Device unusable, waiting for repair.
How does the camera focus in terms of speed? My G3 focuses faster than anything I have used including the S5 and Note 4. Is the quality on par with the S5/G3? Focus is medium fast, like the S4. Photo quality is SUBZERO. S4 shoots far better pictures, especially in bright sunlight. Unfocused areas at the picture's borders, left and right, horrible rendering of shades of green, like grass, leaves. Just a green slurry. HDR mode restricted to 8 MP, showing almost no effect at all, panorama shots restricted to 1080 pixels in height.
Picture quality is like a 8 MP camera, even with 20.7 MP photos. No joke, sorry.
Z3 is better under lowlight conditions, but the "flash" is nothing more than a joke; like a dim candle.
Video quality is not the best, too. With pan shots, there's that typical jerking and stuttering. Even at 1080p.
Camera gets hot, even while just taking photos.
I want a waterproof phone as a backup or if I like it enough a primary phone is this a viable choice, or would the Z3c be better?

Screen quality (except the glass) is very high, you will love it. But incapable of "displaying" black. Black is always a dark grey. Good touchscreen response, very fast - but still a bit less sensitive than the S4 screen. Using a pen is possible (glove mode), but still not as good as with the S4.
I wear average jeans not really baggy or tight, will the phone break in my backpocket? I don't know but I guess: Yes, it will break. If a screen glass breaks just while listening to music, I regard it quite prone to break under slight pressure conditions.
Personally, I feel like waving the Z3 goodbye. I never expected a device that sensitive to breakage, I never expected a camera THAT bad.
Thank you for the info, I am disappointed in Sony for leaving it an IR blaster and every day I see more issues. The only way I can justify getting one is if the issues seem to dissipate as more people buy them. I guess ill wait and see if the t mobile one suffers all of the same issues.
Also I didn't realize how long my signature is, I can see how it's annoying so I'll condense it.
Seeing as how XZ is the new 2016 flagship. Is it worth upgrading? Specs wise, it isn't really worth. Just better front facing camera, rear camera and a better processor from what I saw unless I missed something. But design wise, I really like it. Supposedly some of the 2017 Xperia leaks I've seen sport the exact design from the XZ. Should I upgrade or wait out until the end of the year for their high end device?
I have Z5 regular and I have same speculations. The camera is better cause has full manual mode, but picture quality?I am afraid that isnt much better than Z5.
It left only chipset, design and maybe longer battery hold.
I am not smart what to do...

I prefer old design cuz it's more scratch resist than new material. I think u should stay tuned with news, see what if the 2017 devices could be more or not then decide, it's just a month ahead. BTW, XZ price is still not down in VN Store yet.
As nougat takes up approximately 50% of the XZ's memory which can't be rooted without unlocking the bootloader, I'd suggesting holding back for three months to see what is released generally. Developer support and third party accessory support are limited for this model, and you'll have difficulty finding a decent case or tempered glass that bonds fully to the curved edge. Double tap to wake remains an issue, and charging is weak and actually depletes if you're using the phone at the same time, as a wireless hotspot for example. It's a stunning phone, but there are issues......
not point tbh, they are just too similar.

What make you disappointed in Z5 and why you didn't satisfy with Moto Z?
Make it clear why so others can help to tell in your place.
The Xperia XZ is a good smartphone, most important thing is the stable & close to stock Android Sony UI, with fast OS updates.
I have used so many smartphones, but Sony is really one of the best.

Well had black z5 and left it in my back pocket and when I went to my car forgot about it and when I sat I heard a crack and when I noticed it was the phone took it it was all broken with little bent in the middle !! Bought then white one and left it on the table and when I got a call it moved till felt down and broke down !
So bought z5 premium with the thought of Netflix 4k and youtube 4k but nothing screen brightness under sun was bad and camera wasn't all what I expected !!!
So went to Samsung s7 and hate all the junk and so many options that mostly u never use it and from time to time it get some slow done for a sec !
The only thing I loved about it the camera was great !
So went to moto z and only thing hate it after buying it putting it side by side with iPhone HTC and Samsung it was ugly and looks like a 200$ phone , I know there is no perfect phone I love Sony phones so think buying the Xz but reviews didnt help camera sucks as they say it's not perfect in anything screen still FHD like Sony is Stuck in time !!! Xz is really better than z5 premium.Better speed, battery life, screen quality, camera quality (not only for manual comands ,quaity is also really better on auto. Every shoots are fantastic and night shoots are on different planet compared to z5 series...really fantastic). Z5 premium have updates i think only with nougat 7.0 and 7.1.1. Xz also android 8 and 9 i think. In the end of the year z5 premium probably leave the official support and there you should buy the new xperia z5 premium is a fantastic phone. Xz is really better. But at end 2017 Sony announce his powerful flagship. and it will be a really better phone than xz
Don't know if I can add a YouTube link
But this is what bother me every review I see is negative I don't know if the phone is that bad or the reviews just want to make it show bad !
Here in Brasil it's not on shelves yet only sold online so there is no way to test it yet ! And it's not cheep at all it's around 1050$
So I need a light from ppl here in the XDA
Thanks for all support
Sony is about to announce new phones at MWC on February 27...I'd wait.
edit: Not to say the XZ isn't great, I love mine. Just saying though, new phones in a month. Might be worth waiting to see what they announce.

I have the XZ, it is good phone with best quality screen under direct sun, yes the Samsung S7 edge camera is much better, but in the end it is a smartphone not a camera & with playing with manual mode you can get better result from XZ.
before the XZ I used the HTC 10 which it does have QHD screen !
but if you compare the HTC 10 QHD screen with the FHD Xperia XZ screen in normal indoor light or under direct sun the winner will be for sure the Xperia XZ.
XZ screen is so bright and clear indoor and under direct sun even with polarized sun glasses where you will suffer with other smartphones, but with the XZ it is really a hero.
any one can try that, I felt disappointed from using HTC 10 SPECIALLY UNDER DIRECT SUN with polarized sun glasses, so I decided to get Sony Xperia XZ.
all in all XZ is a good smartphone with good battery life & screen quality, plus the most cool thing I like it about the XZ is the Qnovo charging thing where the battery can learn from your daily charging timing, so this Qnovo thing will stop over charging battery if for example you charge your smartphone over night.
If you are a Sony guy get the XZ, it is such a cool smartphone.

So far, i didn't try Z5 Premium but did use Z1 and tried Z3 of my friend. By stats, Z5 Pre and XZ are just the same. By design, the new material is nice, beautiful, mostly symmetry, more than Z5 Pre, even few time i confused then hold it upside down. But It did not bring the good feeling and high grade feeling (both by viewing and holding) like Z lines, also less scratch resistant. Also in review, its back is easy to be destroy by hard metal.
For gaming, and perhaps clip playing too if you hold XZ, the border is not much rounded, make it feed bad for your hand's palm after playing game for a long time. Battery is not so good, fixed much by Nougat update, but still. The reduced resolution didn't make it better, but I don't like larger resolution either, my I cant' see much differences.
For broken and bend problems, I didn't drop my XZ so i can't tell, but my old Z1 drop many times without any problems, just scratch appear in every corner after times. Then how could your old phone became broken so easily?
At all, I'm a little reget that I should try Z5 Pre before buying XZ, that's it.

Hi guys, I received a XZP yesterday.
I found an abnormal phenomenon, when the screen display light things, it looks like a Oil canvas, crude.
Even I use 4k global display (BY [MOD] Change Default Resolution to 4k - No root needed!), this still happen.
I feel the screen is not smooth like Z2.
So is anyone like me?

I'm trying to take photo with it, but no result. I need high resolution device to do it. I'm trying again. But it is very obvious on eye.
It happens because of atypical RGB matrix in XZ Premium display. There is more about it: http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_z5_premium_4k_display_under_our_microscope-blog-13887.php Its Z5 Premium but the same situation is in XZ Premium.

Got it, Thank you for your answer.
I think running 4K makes the phone to crash UI so maybe that's why it's not that smooth.
Try 2K like this video
I think what OP means is, that in real bright light the Screen gets boosted with some whiteish overlay to get a little more brightness. This looks really ugly and happens on my device, too.
As it's a poor quality IPS, does the screen have any ghosting? I can't find an answer in any review. My old Oneplus 3T and dirt cheap Mi Max 2 also had IPS screens but they had zero ghosting, then I bought a Mate 20 which cost 3x more yet that DOES have ghosting, so if a high-end phone has ghosting it's likely the Zenfone 6 does too, especially if most people are saying it's a poor quality IPS.
This is the only video that mentions it has ghosting but it's the one guy, so I wanted more opinions to confirm:

yes the way he describes it is exactly how I feel about my Mate 20, I'm thinking it might be using the same display. It's an amazing screen but as soon as I start scrolling text and images becomes blurry and I've never seen it this bad since the early 2000s LCD screens.

Nexus 4, Galaxy S3, Xperia Z2, Lenovo P2, G5S+ and this Zenfone 6.
I just tested it side by side with the HTC U11, it's actually more fluid than that one. Though I believe it has slightly smaller viewing angles.
I also think it's PWM free, it's quite ok to watch for longer periods. For comparison, the display on the LG G7 gave me a weird sensation (that one had PWM).

The G7 used PWM at a frequency of 1,174Hz, and then only at 42% brightness and below. If you're capable of noticing that you should go talk to Guinness about your record-breaking visual abilities.
My Galaxy S22 Ultra has a really bad color shift when looking from the top. The screen gets a green tint even when you are looking only a few degrees from the top. You can see it here:
https://imgur.com/gUDFh2Z
(It's more apparent in real life than in this picture)
Looking from all other angles than the top the display looks fine. But it looks like the screen is shimmering if you turn the phone a little. I tried to caputre the effect on this video:
https://imgur.com/e7PghPU
I have my display set to WQHD+, adaptive refresh rate and vivid mode. The brightness when I took the photo was around 60%, but the problem occurs at all brightness levels.
My previous phone, the Galaxy S20 5G, doesn't suffer from this problem. The screen does not change color at all when I look at it from a slightly different angle.
https://imgur.com/H2S3KwV
So I'm wondering if other S22 Ultra users have had the same problem or if my phone is just broken and I should replace it?
Thx for your help
I have to admit I don't "see" it. I think the brigthness and the rounded edges may cause a somewhat "dark" line depending on viewing angle but I don't think it's a defect.

I also do not think that it is a manufacturing defect because I checked all the devices around me and they were the same degree of green, do you think it is because of the new type of glass Victus 7 Plus
I had the Note20U and it was common to see that on the edge on white backgrounds, which is why you can't see it in "flat" phones like the s21U and S22 non ultra series. I think the same applies to foldable phones when viewed in a certain angle with white background.
Mine does the same if I look at the screen from a very off angle. Had not taken note of it though until you pointed it out. Guess I was just not expecting a good quality view from such a steep angle. Just out of curiosity, I looked at a similar angle at my computer screen, TV, Kindle, Tablet, and an old phone. They all have various degrees of imperfect display when viewed from a steep angle although the shift in color was most noticeable on the S22. But still, I guess I would not consider it a defect.

I am a user of all versions of Sam and all devices have different Vision angles, but the Galaxy 22 Ultra is annoying and I expect because of the 1750 nit brightness
Mine has the same issue. I bring it to the Samsung center. Their demo device was the same. So i assumed it wasnt the manufacture defect. And most of the time, no one will look at the phone from the top down like that. So that was not a big issue at all. We should be thankful that the grey uniformity is much better than those from Sony or LG. The grey uniformity in low light on those phone were abysmal
It's not a manufecture defect, this is "normal" to curved screen on some viewing angles, same happens with the flip and the fold and the N20U, the flat S21/S21+/S21U/S22/S22+ do not have this issue as there is no curve

I did not have this problem on the Galaxy S21 Ultra, and it was not that bad as is the case on the Galaxy S22 Ultra, the color of the screen changes to green, which is very clear for the simplest tilt of the screen

This is a problem, which is defined by the bad viewing angle, and it may be worse than the uniformity of the gray color, which may appear only in gray and in weak lighting conditions, but this problem is annoying because it accompanies you with all light colors, and it is a problem that appeared in the first batches of the Galaxy S21 Ultra and was referred to by some reviewers and it was widespread in the days of the Galaxy
It's faulty. My 1st S21 Ultra behaved the same way. Meaning it had a very aggressive color shift with the slightest of viewing angles. I understand OP fully.
I have the same green shift as well on my S22 Ultra. It was not there on my S20 Ultra. It is more likely due to "improvements" in the screen, what you gain, you lose elsewhere. While the green tint is there, it doesn't affect me as I look at my phone directly. Others trying to peep over my shoulder can enjoy the green shift.

Return it and get a phone from a different manufacturer or stop worrying about it.
Those are your only two options.

My Galaxy S22 Ultra has a really bad color shift when looking from the top. The screen gets a green tint even when you are looking only a few degrees from the top. You can see it here:

(It's more apparent in real life than in this picture)
Looking from all other angles than the top the display looks fine. But it looks like the screen is shimmering if you turn the phone a little. I tried to caputre the effect on this video:

I have my display set to WQHD+, adaptive refresh rate and vivid mode. The brightness when I took the photo was around 60%, but the problem occurs at all brightness levels.
My previous phone, the Galaxy S20 5G, doesn't suffer from this problem. The screen does not change color at all when I look at it from a slightly different angle.

So I'm wondering if other S22 Ultra users have had the same problem or if my phone is just broken and I should replace it?
Thx for your help
