My XZP Screen abnormal state - Sony Xperia XZ Premium Questions & Answers

Hi guys, I received a XZP yesterday.
I found an abnormal phenomenon, when the screen display light things, it looks like a Oil canvas, crude.
Even I use 4k global display (BY [MOD] Change Default Resolution to 4k - No root needed!), this still happen.
I feel the screen is not smooth like Z2.
So is anyone like me?
BTW, the forum date is UTC ?

I'm trying to take photo with it, but no result. I need high resolution device to do it. I'm trying again. But it is very obvious on eye.

It happens because of atypical RGB matrix in XZ Premium display. There is more about it: http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_z5_premium_4k_display_under_our_microscope-blog-13887.php Its Z5 Premium but the same situation is in XZ Premium.

Got it, Thank you for your answer.

I think running 4K makes the phone to crash UI so maybe that's why it's not that smooth.
Try 2K like this video

I think what OP means is, that in real bright light the Screen gets boosted with some whiteish overlay to get a little more brightness. This looks really ugly and happens on my device, too.

Screen Question

On the Xperia Z2, the screen was unreadable outdoors, if you we wearing glasses that had antiglare or UV coating. Do we know if Sony corrected that in the Z3? I love my Z2, but being unable to read it at all in direct sunlight has been more than a nuisance.... Any comments?

Well, I haven't had any troubles reading outdoors which is weird because the screen of the Z3 is largely very similar to the one on the Z2. So I guess if you were having problems, you might still. From my end I've always found the Z2 screen to be great.

I GUESS (!) that's an effect caused by polarizing sunglasses. So it's the glasses, not the display causing that nuisance. Shouldn't happen with AMOLED displays.

However, it is something that doesn't happen with other LCD screens, like the HTC M8 or the LG G2 and G3 and even the iphone, so it is a problem with the Z2. Do we know if Sony corrected that with the Z3?

I'm pretty sure that Z3 screen is better sunlight viewable due to much higher brightness. You can see it in GsmArena and PhoneArena review.

I had 12GB available before installing apps.
As for the original topic, I've noticed a similar effect on my Galaxy S2 (AMOLED) screen, especially when rotating the device 90 degrees. This was caused by my sunglasses, which are polarized. The effect occurred regardless of lighting conditions and made the screen less readable. Just tested it with the Z3 and the effect is similar but worse.
However, when the device was held in portrait mode, the screen was readable with only a few minor funky patterns caused by the polarization. I've not had the opportunity to test it in bright sunlight with the Z3, but I think it'll be fine.

screen is it that good? i dont see it...

guys i know this screen is loved by many but i still like to compare stuff
i mean even on 4k mod I compared it to the Z3 and it the Z3 has heigher brightness and its actually whiter on white spots and sharper
I compared instagram photos and our beloved XZP is not as sharp or as white in white areas or as bright as the OLD Z3
is there any thing wrong? or was the Z3 a one of a kind phone ?
dont get me wrong the screen is splinded but i just love to feel owning the BEST or at least the LATEST good features on a flagship but it kills me to see some older phones seem to have better like the old Z3
AND ITS A 4K SCREEN how is it less sharp than the Z3?? the screen is WONDERFUL but not as I expected or is there a different point of view here?
did you actually view 4k content ? go download some 4k video sample and then watch it on your phone in native sony gallery app then you'll spot the difference

yah i mean sure the videos and stuff look crisp but when it comes to sharpness ive been sharper displays, this might look more realistic as it is IPS display but the white balance i saw on the Z3 is a lil whiter on the whites
and a lil sharper to be honest and its driving me crazy
im not only talking about viewing 4k content but in a native 4k screen just doing whatever... like instagram and all that
the gui itself run at 1080p , since there is no need for more as its not needed in interface itself and consume less battery that way. if you want to switch your phone to natively run 4k then depending on are you rooted or not use adb command to switch the resolution and change the dpi to value that suits your needs or if you rooted use 4k switcher script/zip

All that does is change the rendered DPI (which makes text smaller, and forms scale smaller). It does not actually activate the extra pixels. To do that all the time would require a custom kernel. It's possible that the Z3 has a better white balance, etc when comparing 1080p to 1080p. I know the Z5 Premium actually looked underwhelming when in 1080p. If you want a true comparison, pull up a YouTube video that is 4k, and compare that to the Z3. The YouTube video will be in true 4k, as apps have the ability to request 4k be turned on through the kernel. The kernel gives it out on a per app basis though, so the only way to be able to see true 4k content that I know of is to use Amazon prime video, YouTube, or the Sony media apps that came with the phone.
Regarding Z3 white balance, it's commonly known that Sony intentionally calibrated the white balance very cool (over 9000K) to increase perceived (and real?) screen brightness. While the screen does indeed look punchy and bright, it's white balance is far from the 6500K reference standard. The XZ Premium is actually much more accurate in both color reproduction and white balance but for some people, that reference standard appears dull and washed out if they are used to viewing pumped up displays.
I have a Z3 and it has a nice display but is far from accurate. My XZ Premium can look a bit dull next to it even in Standard (Triluminous) color mode. But it soundly beats the Z3 in every visual aspect under close scrutiny. And it's vibrancy is gorgeous when viewing 4K HDR content. The Z3 doesn't even come close then.

yah i kind of noticed that not only in smart phones but in all screens (TV monitors etc...) and i seem to find IPS displays with the most accurate color but some other displays seem sharper especially when it comes to text and small details lilke that
in videos and photos I agree IPS displays can make you feel like youre looking out of a window but on normal use , when it comes to texts and sharpness on small objects on the screen, other screens than IPS look a lil sharper and more punchy which is weird

how's the display?

I'm thinking about switching from the pixel 2xl to this. I saw someone post a grey picture (OLED test) and it was horrible. The uniformity was the worse I've ever seen.
I think it's great. It's better than my old Moto g4 plus and that phone had an impressive screen as well although it was an LCD and not AMOLED. The colors are great and you won't really notice the pixels since it's 1080p and it will give a longer battery as well for that reason.

I just used Dead Pixel Test, and the uniformity is literally perfect with the Silk White edition. All colors were literally perfect.
The screen is great. It looks as good as the one on my S8+ that I just sold. You'll be extremely happy with the screen in the OP6.
I mean look at a solid grey picture and turn your brightness all the way down? Is it still "perfect" ?
Display is avarage.

I just used a website with the pixel test images, lowered the brightness to minimum - it's perfect, there's no change in brightness anywhere on the screen. It's perfectly uniform. Whoever posted that image got a lemon that he needs to exchange.
Are you satisfied?
Love the display coming from my s6 edge.

Perfect screen, compared to my wife S9+ which I would give 9.8/10, I will give the OP6 a solid 9.1/10
I used to have pixel 2 xl but oneplus looks better. I didn't like the pixel because of the blue shifting

Just Google grey test OLED and look for a solid grey image. Turn your brightness all the way down and see how uniformed it is
compare to my old nexus6, my new oneplus6 has significantly better Amoled screen, however it's way to narrow compare to nexus6 which missed a lot.
Also, oneplus6 screen is extremely better than my old nexus5 with that lcd garbage.
S9+ perhaps has a bit better screen than oneplus6 but it has retarded and highly inconvenient and highly uncomfortable curve which is huge deal breaker for me.

Do you want the screen to be bad or something? I googled your oled test business and used 2 different grey images from some posts that had uniformity problems from some other phones. There are zero for this screen. It looks perfectly uniform, nothing like the images for those problematic displays. This is a Silk White limited edition version of the phone. Even if there were problems with the screen in the past, they would definitely be gone for my batch of phones.

Calm down. I've seen pics on Reddit that were horrible. Like LCD bleed. I just didn't want to purchase if the display sucks like my pixel 2 XL. The p2xl was so bad
It's okay. Sadly I got used to the note 8 so it looks blah.
I'll have to play with a custom kernel and tweak the display.
Step up from 200 phone. Yes I can see pixels.

I have this problem since day 1. It looks like LCD bleeding but in an unnoticeable way. It has disturbed me while watching movies in a dark room with low brightness. Upper half of the screen seems like its too bright while the lower half seems too dark... But, no one will notice it with average brightness and lighted room..

Get a replacement, your display is defective.
EDIT: I just scrolled through Westworld Season 2 Episode 3 using VLC and adjusting brightness on the way. There were about 4 dark scenes, and I couldn't see any imperfections with my display. The uniformity was perfect.
Maybe some people got some crappy ass lemons when a factory QC worker was drunk. It ain't the case here.
Case closed for this phone.

One plus 6 display not sharp enough

So I received my one plus 6 today. After setting up, I open play store and all the icons of different apps looks little off as if they are of low quality. Further I look closely at the fonts...they too were off.... like little blurred and not sharp enough. The status bar icon were also not sharp enough as in my brothers poco f1. As if the display is of low resolution. So, Is it how the display of one plus 6 is, is this how AMOLED displays are (never used one before) or I got a faulty piece...?

Bro I am just asking you to check the channels DP displayed next to the title of videos in home feed of the youtube app. In my one plus 6 the icons looks pretty distorted as if they are low resolution. Almost every pic (snapshots of videos) and channel pic I see in youtube app looks distorted/low quality. I just want you to check it on your device ..do you see any distorted/low res channelpics/text/video thumbnails when you look little closely ? There's no need to post it here because if my display is faulty then no matter what ever I see in it..... it will look distorted.

Yes pixelated thumbnail. Thats the same pixleted app icons I'm seeing on play store as well if you look little closely. Even the clock widget placed on home screen is not sharp enough (pixleted edges) if you look closely. And even the screen boundary is little pixeleted (not smooth) around the corner and edges of notch if you look closely especially in app with white status bar like instagram. Please confirm it to me.

Black crushing on OP7 Pro?

I have been searching for it around and haven't found any workaround. The black colour/darker colours look pixelated. It's never captured in screenshot/screen recorder so can't really post a screenshot here. Is this a software issue or a hardware one? It's usually visible on lower brightness, <40% and only in live wallpapers and videos, Netflix and Youtube. The display with black/darker colours looks really bad. The dark theme colours are fine though. It's just videos and anything that's moving.
