My (not best) comparison between Note 4, S6 Edge+, LG V10 and S7 Edge camera - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Guides, News, & Discussion

I know my photos are not the best to check the quality. I hope they can help you to decide!
If I had time, this night (Spain time) I would like a new low light comparison between V10 and S7 Edge.
IMO, I like the details of V10, but at low light I like S7 Edge.
What's your opinion?

S6 Edge+ camera sensor: SLSI_S5K2P2_FIMC_IS (ISOCELL)

Show more V10 vs S7 in low light/night.
Edit : V10 looks better in low light, no yellow tint and more sharp. But S7e has punchy color, but LG has spectrum color to be more realistic.

Good enough for me. I had my doubts about s7e camera quality but it looks great. Can't wait to get mine. Thanks for sharing

You sure it was always in automatic mode with the V10 ? here it takes darker pics than the S6E+ whereas usually the LG always take brighter pics than the S6E+ in low light.

No it's not bad. It's just worse that having a sony sensor. You should probably check the threads about isocell vs sony imx in galaxy s6 and note 5 forums. There's a clear difference and let's just say isocell is not the winner... washed out collors, worse clarity, worse low light with puprle fringe on videos and photos at the corners of the frame. I should know, i have an s6e with isocell.

Cool....I'm thinking about going to grab this phone from TMOUS on Friday. Hopefully I get the Sony sensor.
Either way, I'll be happy to be back on Android. I switched to a 6+ and then a 6S+ last summer/fall and I am finally missing Android. Yes there are some things better about IOS but I just feel so limited. Apple not opening it the API really hurts 3rd party app function. The Alarm clock apps along with 3rd party keyboards are horrendous on IOS.

Well when you get it welcome back! I haven't owned an iPhone since the 4 and I see no reason to look back. I enjoy the freedom to brick my phone and do whatever I want for fun. I flashed Android N to my 6P earlier today, and I've been tinkering with my S7E lately. It takes time to get things how you like them plus the journey to perfection is fun.

Exactly.......and I miss that part so much. My wife is sticking with the iPhone because when we switched from the 6 to the 6S, she said she loved how everything on her phone went back to exactly the way she had it. I hated that part. I love starting fresh with a new phone and setting it up all over again.
Plus I have the Jump On Demand and I feel like it's going to waste if I only upgrade once a year to the new iPhone. I'm getting my 3 upgrades a year dammit.

TBH the daylight photos of S7e satisfied me, and it amazed me in no-light condition (the beach photos). Still visible in no-light is mind-blowing.
It's also very very clear that the HDR mode eliminates oil-painting effect and cures the relatively low dynamic range too. All HDR photos I have seen so far are very good, always better than the normal one (feel real, not fake like other HDR photos).
The only thing I care now is the low-light mode. Com'on SS, the low-light mode on S3 and Note 2 was increadible, and you have it on A5 and A7 2016 too, so please give it back to S series.

LOL.....don't get me wrong, my wife still likes Android, she just doesn't care that much. She actually missed her Android when we first switched but I think facetiming with her family made her want to stick with the iPhone.
I will say this though. We have a couple Android tablets along with a couple iPads and I do believe iOS has Android beat when it comes to the tablet interface. Either way, I'm not really a tablet guy anyway. I'd much prefer to be sitting on the couch with my XPS 13 or gaming on my MSI GT72.

[Q] Coming from the htc m7

I currently have a m7 and I'm looking for my next new phone. I want to know anyone's cons against the s6 that they're using now. Especially anyone who came from m7/m8 etc. I want to know about camera, battery, performance, any lag with touchwiz, etc. I'm finding it a hard decision between nexus 6, S6, (and i would say m9...but the camera looks pretty awful). I need as much feedback as possible. I just want to know any cons before buying this phone that a rep (Verizon) isn't going to tell me.
I came from a launch day m7 myself, and I've had the s6 for about 2 weeks now. I think it was a solid upgrade, and I have no regrets. My only problems with it are the little annoyances, like the volume warning, and the things that I used to use xposed for, since there's no exposed for the s6 yet (and probably won't be for a while, if at all).
But the screen and camera are amazing. The battery and memory issues haven't bothered me because I haven't noticed them - all I know is that they're better than the m7.
One thing though - for the first time ever I'm using a third party launcher (Nova Prime). I don't really have any issues with touchwiz, and I've actually grown to like it a lot once I threw the flat candy theme on top of it, but the touchwiz launcher is a mess.

This will probably never ever happen... but a sense 7 port, maybe just launcher.... well that would be pretty sweet.
Do you use any 3rd party camera apps such as camera fv-5 ? or do you really like stock app?

Actually, check out this thread and do a search for s6 - I think people have gotten it to work. I haven't tested it - I've been pretty happy with touchwiz (surprisingly).
Same with the camera - haven't found any reason to try another, stock works great and the photos are awesome.

So I played with this phone yesterday at Verizon.... I'm sold. What is battery life compared to m7? I know the battery is slightly larger, but this is samsung and it also has QHD display and super amoled vs m7's htc and lcd 1080p display.
The battery life is my main gripe about the S6.. I bought and returned my LG G4 for the S6 and the Samsung is built much better yet the G4 got full day battery life. I charge my S6 about twice a day.
Also, the camera is definitely subpar on the S6 in comparison to the LG G4, especially in low lighting. The iPhone performs much better in low light compared to the S6 also. Day time pics are better than iPhone but nowhere near the G4 quality.
Once someone releases a higher capacity battery for the S6, I'd gladly tear mine apart to replace it.
Keep in mind I work for AT&T and I use my phone a LOT throughout the day.. Roughly 20gb /month data usage on my line alone and I don't tether.

My iPhone 6 records 60fps 1080p much smoother than the GS6. But I don't record much video anyways.
Off the charger at 7am and I get the battery 15% warning around noon. Quick charge to 45% during lunch then get the warning again around 5pm.

I own a GS6 after returning my G4. My iPhone 6 is my secondary device and its sitting next to me. I'm giving a legitimate comparison with no bias. You saying the GS6 is better than iPhone in "every way" is ignorance at its best. I'm not a fan boy of either. There are strengths and weaknesses to both. The GS6 camera doesn't come anywhere near the quality of the G4 photos when you put them side by side and view them on the same calibrated monitor. The GS6 struggles with iso levels in low light. The iPhone is better at iso adjustment in low light. That is absolute in my real world usage.
Day light photos on the GS6 are leaps and bounds over the iPhone, however.

Photo quality

Say "cheese", then rate this thread to express how photos taken with the Huawei Nexus 6P come out. A higher rating indicates that photos offer rich color (without over-saturating), sharp detail (with all subjects in-focus), and appropriate exposure (with even lighting).
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
One of the best mobile cameras. Color saturation, ease of focusing, and HDR is all excellent.
Surprisingly very good! The Moto X Pure was good, but this has crisper images. The OnePlus2 was OK, but the images were "smudgy" in the background.
The nexus 6p takes great pictures. I love it and the double power button push to open camera really does work and its quick.
Great so far, nice upgrade from the stock S5 camera. Low light images look better and apps like ProShot giving us manual controls can be quite handy.
The video is very crisp too!
To be honest it's not bad at all. It's up there for sure but for sure not no1. Happy with mine
I guess since I came back to the Nexus line from the S6, I have to say I'm disappointed. My expectations weren't too high though, so I'm not overly disappointed. I got used to, and liked the S6's 16X9 pics. I like how they filled up the S6's display. I'm trying to get used to the N6P's 4X3 pics. I can positively say that low-light pics are nowhere near as good as Google would have one believe they'd be. Period. As long as the lighting is good, the pics will be as well.
Of course, a lesser camera is still worth coming back to the Nexus. So overall I'm happy.
I'm blown away by the quality of the camera!
Coming from an HTC one m8, the photo quality is amazing on the 6P. I'm not used to the amazing quality but I love it!

I would prefer a Lumia, but since there is a lack of apps on Windows Mobile... 6P.
Pictures seem very good., but the white balance when using the flash has a slight green tint compared to the 5X. I noticed this last night and was also mentioned in this article: http://pocketnow.com/2015/10/19/google-nexus-5x-vs-6p-video
"If you’re really looking for a consistent difference here, maybe try to spot the green tint in a few of the 6P’s photos, which for some reason becomes more pronounced when using the flash."
I've attached pictures for comparison. First image is with the 6P and the second is with the 5X. Hopefully this will get fixed in a future software update.
In my testing I am seeing better indoor photos than outdoors in even lighting. Outdoor photos tend to produce darker images against bright backgrounds (sky). If I move the focus to the subject, it compensates the brightness for the subject but then sky is blown out. This is without using HDR+. With HDR+, photos are evenly lit but still on the darker side. Images,. however, are very sharp and capture excellent details. I have a Note 4 too. I would say that Note 4 has a better camera than Nexus 6P. So in my opinion Nexus 6P is good but not excellent.
Coming from a Nexus 6 I'm loving the quality of this camera. However in HDR mode trying to take pictures of my children is pretty difficult. It's quite a bit slower in this mode

I have to agree with you. I had the S6 and I loved the form factor and the camera. I hated the S6 because my wife would always use my phone for photos. She actually used more of my photo storage than I did. I thought the 6p camera was suppose to be on party with the S6 . I have to say some photos of the photos are good but with the S6 I never had a bad photo.
I just hated that the S6 updates would take forever. I know that with Verizon, Marshmallow will not be available until March/April 2016. I went with the 6p cause I could keep Verizon and will always get timely updates. Also I didn't want to have to worry about rooting a phone for it to be functional.

the camera is good,

nexus 6p brighter whiter (better) screen than Gs7 edge.

i have both phone and been playing with them to see if i keep the gs7 edge. It is an amazing phone but one thing i notice and I'm very picky about it is the screen quality. Mostly the whites. I notice that my nexus 6p gets brighter and whiter than s7 edge both in max brighness. While reviews and people will declare Samsung galaxy to have the best screen without testing, i did some. Something that i have seen in the past is that gs5 & gs6 always had a lower end brighnes a whiter screen than its notes brother. Hands down note 5 still have the best screen right now and i believe the same will be for the galaxy note 6 line.
Not very good pics but someone who has both phone can do the same just to confirm this.
BOTH PHONE MAX BRIGHNESS.
Gs7 left & nexus 6p right
EDIT: if you see both side by side the galaxy s7 edge screen looks better because is using super amoled. is so attach to the screen that icons seen to be pupping out of the screen. not the same in the nexus 6p which is amoled and the screen seems way behind the glass. Also looking very closely at the nexus 6p icons i can see sharpness artifact while the galaxy s7 edge screen seems to be using some kind of filter to make icon look smooth without causing any blur to it. They both look has sharp.
I'm using mine in amoled cinema and it doesn't hold a candle to the 6P I had. Which setting did you have your S7E on when you compared?

stock setting which is adaptive. cinema make color more vibrant (punchier). basic and photo does make the screen look yellowish but i was not using those.
edit: you where right changing my color profile from adaptive to cinema make screen brighter and just has white but it add those punchy colors.
They're picking at anything now lol
:good:
Another thing to take into consideration is the bump in brightness that it may do in direct sunlight that goes beyond the max brightness setting. I'm inside right now at work so can't test to be sure but I remember my S6 would punch up the brightness in direct sunlight beyond what I could manually set it to, I think the S7E does the same. I don't remember the 6P being able to do that although I won't argue that for the price, I was impressed with the quality of the screen on the 6P.

In my thread regarding note4 amoled quality, i wrote to displaymate as well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/general/note4-amoled-screen-quality-t2906365
imho, displaymate is a not very usable source, as they test the cherrypicked devices from samsung, they are NOT examining devices from the "open market"... there, 8 out of 10 devices at least have minor or major display errors, although most people wont see them because the lack of comparison!
Ohhhh please. If you try to bash on samsung than get your facts straight.
First of all, to your info Nexus 6P has also Super Amoled from Samsung(if you thought otherwise than you should read more). So there should be little to no difference at all.
S7 edge display is one generation newer since Nexus 6P has the same screen with note 4. Wich is a great screen also without a doubt.
But as the biggest producer and user of Amoled samsung does calibrate the screen in the best way. Better than google or anyone.
Per today S7 edge has the best screen used in a phone so far. Lets see what others will use in the future.
Samsung uses autobrightnes to give all the power in the screen thats because its unessecary to have it on full all the time and that would affect the battery.
So when needed there is no phone in the market with brighter screen.
Sorry for my bad english.
PS. I have both Nexus 6P and S7 Edge 935F. What you are saying is not true.

imho, displaymate is a not very usable source, as they test the cherrypicked devices from samsung, they are NOT examining devices from the "open market"... there, 8 out of 10 devices at least have minor or major display errors, although most people wont see them because the lack of comparison!

Lol. Nexus owner? I clearly says that i have a gs7 edge i purchase to keep, stated that the devices is amazing but did notice how whiter the screen look. SHOWED PROOF OF BOTH PHONE WHICH EVERYONE COULD SAY WHAT THEY WILL BUT WHERE IS THEIR PROOF SIDE BY SIDE PICS. Pointed out that icons on gs7 look better not grainy like nexus 6p. Noted that note 5 to me still have the best amoled screen around. I guess galaxy owner get offended so quickly, i have been owner of galaxy s3, S4, S5, S6 3DGE, NOTE 3, NOTE 4, NOTE5 and now galaxy s7 edge with a 6p i had after my note 5 broke and wasnt cover by warranty. Why would i bash it.

I'm a Nexus owner but thinking about selling and getting an S7 Edge.
The S7 hardware, screen and camera are definitely better (although both are good)
The only thing holding me back is the decision to go from Stock Android to Touchwiz. Don't know if I can take 2 email apps, multiple music players, etc. I can't stand bloat or the ugly menus in Touchwiz.

I didn't like Touchwiz back when I had an S3, I just used a Nova and have never looked back. Also Nova let's you hide apps you don't want to see which helps if there's multiple apps for the same function.
I use mine is Basic display mode as I want the closest to real life accurate as possible.
i wish there was a way to control the max brightness even when not in direct sunlight

so mate 9 camera or nexus 6p? which is better?

I have Nexus 6p
I wanna replace it with mate 9
Camera is good like my nexus 6p?

I have both. And s7 exynos, mate 9 is unreal. Cpu clearly more powerful than the other 2. Camera is great in pro mode.
I'm getting over 11hrs screen on time with WiFi only and about 9 with data. Amazed. Yes it's better than 6p!

Nobody really has answered the question for you properly. The Nexus 6P has a good camera on it with large pixels. The Mate 9 does not have pixels as large, nor does it have as fast a f stop.
So to answer your question, what do you use the camera for most? e.g. taking pics of kids or pets, indoor shots, or do you shoot a lot of video. etc
To answer the question without this knowledge, all I would say is the Mate 9 camera app allows for extreme creativity over its competition. The S7 has the fastest focus system so action shot or fast moving video is a breeze for it. The large pixels on the 6P are a blessing. The 6P is not the quickest at taking a shot.
Check out the dxo mark test. It's better according to the score. https://www.dxomark.com/Mobiles/Mate-9-camera-review-A-big-step-up-for-Huawei the mate 9 scores 85 and the nexus 6p 84.

Dxomark is useless. It's increasingly clear that it's not so independent and neutral. Also, they don't really seem to want to test a camera to find its best potential nor do they provide the original samples. It's a bit sketchy and their final scores seem arbitrary.

I have to say that those pictures look extremely artificial. Its like the software did the bokeh effect.
I currently have Nexus 6P and I have Mate 9 Pro waiting in the post office, but I am really hesitant to change. One obvious reason is the software but other reason is that Nexus 6P has probably the most underrated camera ever. I did have Samsung Galaxy S7 before, and while the camera is good its not as good as 6P has. I also have Oneplus3T now and while I love almost everything about this phone, on the camera department 6P just wipes the floor with it.
Especially in low light you can get really good detail. Samsung also yes, but I didn't like how with S7 every scenario got more bright. I felt that I lost the atmosphere in the shot.
Like the first picture I post here, it was really dark there, but I think I captured both the details and the atmosphere.
Summa Summarum, Nexus 6P is over a year old phone, but Google did some magic and it is still really tough to beat. Not sure how Pixel can do against it, maybe better. But all the other phones I have tried there is no competition.
It still could be that my curiosity wins and I go pick up my Mate 9 Pro..if I don't like it..I have 850 euros worth phone laying useless..
Great shots from the last 2 posts.
I just want to add, pixel peeping is not the goal. Taking a memorable photo is

All are playing with the aperture effect, which can be dialed up or back or off even after the fact. I think it is great in the first two, the second two with it off are below though I think it makes for an interesting picture with it on. Using it this Christmas I will say it is best with non human subjects, stationary things. When used with people you can sometimes get a bit of the uncanny valley thing going on. But that said, I think the first two of the original pics I posted are great uses, the second two interesting applications.

You have to remember that the Mate 9 has something else going for it here... a monochrome sensor which does not lose light capture due to an RGB color filter like other camera sensors. From what I am seeing, this seems to be more than making up for the fact that the aperture is f/2.2 and possibly having small pixels. Also, has there been any determination of the pixel size for the Mate 9's camera sensors... either the color RGB or BW sensors? I can't find any details on the actual sensor models themselves, nor the sensor sizes, nor the sensors' pixel sizes - any of these should give us an idea of how capable the camera sensor is. Also, remember that the lenses themselves are high quality Leica Summarit lenses, which does make a difference.
It seems like Huawei has done something really unique here by using the monochrome sensor to augment light and detail capture, plus having arguably the best digital zoom capabilities of any smartphone to date. My phone gets delivered on Wednesday, and if I have time/desire to do so, I will compare the camera as best as I can against my LG V20 and Pixel XL, using manual controls, zoom, etc.

The 6P is neck and neck against the Pixel phones in terms of photo quality when both devices have HDR+ On. The Pixels are much better though, for 3 reasons... first, they have HDR+ Auto which works in an entirely new way, giving an HDR+ "Lite" mode essentially that allows for instantaneous HDR capture with zero lag/delay. HDR+ Auto cannot give as much dynamic range as HDR+ On (which does have a lag/delay still), but it produces great results and identical results to HDR+ On in most situations... only some situations require HDR+ On for the best quality. Second, they have phase detection autofocus and a host of other sensor enhancements, which make speed/ease of capture MUCH better. The autofocus is almost as fast as the S7 now. Lastly, the HDR+ processing is much faster and doesn't get bogged down easily like the 6P does when taking numerous shots.
The 6P is still a great camera... just as good as the Pixels really, if you have time to get the shot and don't mind the lag from HDR+ On. But the Pixels are still easier to shoot with, and have MUCH better video if you need it.
I also want to mention, that I actually can get much better detail from my LG V20 than my Pixel XL when I try... specifically when using manual mode. Some of this is due to the higher megapixel count, but some of it is also due to having total control over the camera. I don't really trust manual camera apps to work well on the Pixels as they were not optimized for that usage like LG's phones. With that said, the Pixel/6P will have MUCH better dynamic range and consistency in photos over LG... but if you truly want the most detailed shot, and fine-tuned exactly how you want it, LG is the way to go... and maybe Huawei now too. LG's camera app is much better, but Huawei seems to have done a pretty good job in terms of manual control... will have to check out the results when I get my phone Wednesday.

The mate 9 also has dual cameras that make up for it's short comings in f stop and smaller pixels. And it has OIS which the 6p is terrible with on video.
All i know is the 6P, for me, was so slow to capture it drove me crazy. Mate 9 isn't quite as fast as my S7 but it is close and adding in the dual camera and zoom options I am finding it a far better experience than my 6P and even better than the S7.

bixby, new CPU, infinity display, USB C, ect...
Smoother system, better fingerprint sensor, immersive display, faster processor, better feel in the hands, higher nits, more memory, better bluetooth, little better camera, curved edges, on screen buttons, bixby(maybe), taller display better for split screen, little better battery life, color of back choices, usb c, ect, ect,....... up to you. But I'd say yes imo!

I didnt want to upgrade. But decided to try the S8 since i have 14 day to return it even if i had to pay the restocking fee. I have a gs7 edge. Im glad i did this is light year ahead of gs7 edge. In smoothness ui. The pjone does not hit up at all. Upgrade. U wont regreat it

I would say that if you are a tech junkie then the S8/S8+ is definitely a looker with quite a few things going for it. If the S7 edge has nothing wrong with it and you are just an average phone user then you could save the extra money. In the end the choice is yours.

I have the plus and I'm BEYOND happy. The software is lag free to the point of stock Android. Hardware is gorgeous. It's fast, fluid, good looking, eye catching, a conversation starter, and has a lot of improvements. First 2 days, battery life is stellar. 5 hours + screen on time with heavy use, high brightness, full resolution, and all my apps and services installed. Even the finger print scanner isn't in a bad place, at least for me. Plus, no doubt your current phone is lagging. So I would say yes, upgrade.

*Plus - gorgeous looks - great and huge screen, Better selfie camera, (CPU/GPU advantages i cant see in real life so i'l not mention them)
*on par - battery life, call quality
*minus - i miss home button double click for camera - on S7 i have been able to take out phone, switch camera and take several pictures with one hand (very useful on a trip), with S8 it is a lot more difficult and i cant make it so far ; camera made 2-3 shots Out of focus - something i never encounter on S7???

I was on the fence of upgrading my S7e to s8. My mind changed after i held the s8 because it actually has smaller screen instead of being advertised as bigger. The ram is still 4gb and processor upgrade from 8890 to 8895 is hairline difference at best. I will pass s8 and wait for Note 8 or s8 plus with 128gb / 6ram combination if they ever release it for europe. I liked the smaller footprint of the device but it is no brainer you're getting a smaller but taller screen.
Yes double click for camera is big facility.

I used a S7 Edge for over a year which is a long time with me. I was going to Jump to the Note 7 but well we know about that fiasco. I was wanting to cancel Jump and just wait a year to buy phones to save cash but well once again I caved in and got a S8. I always justified buying expensive phones and taking advantage of the promo's. I haven't paid for Netflix in a few years. This time I messed up and didn't buy during the promo. sigh Hopefully Samsung will give us some cash with Samsung pay or something. As far as the S8 compared to the S7. S8 is faster and more smooth. I'm not sure if I like the narrow design just yet. When it's in my shorts it lays slanted not straight as the S7. I know it's a minor thing but just a little annoying for me. As far as worth upgrading to the S8 I think if you order the phone you might not get a restocking fee but check on that plus I'm pretty sure you get 30 days. One of the reasons I was hesitant getting the S8 is because I don't think the camera is that much better then the S7 if at all. Also the Note 8 will probably be really nice and not as narrow. Not sure when that is projected to come out. Also I'm interested in the iPhone 8 the 10 anniversary design change. I never had a iPhone.
Narrow design, small battery, barely improved camera, higher price, bixby, idiotic fingerprint positioning.
Thats the reasons i wont buy the S8...the competition can do way better this year...
Samsung went extremely conservative this year and the fact that they only advertise it because of the S8 look tells a lot about it...

Congratz! And enjoy this badboy.
If i had S7 edge, i wouldn't switch because you already got the edge design.
I had a S7 and when S8 came out i was like ... WTF !! I wanted that sexy infinity display.
But to me, this is the only reason to buy this beast. The s7 work well, same camera (Only software change), no bixby button ****.
If your S7 edge is not looking new (i mean you scratch it, ...) , close your eyes and buy one. If your s7 edge is very well looking, just keep it and wait for the s9
