This isn't the kind of question I would normally ask here, but I am attempting to assist a developmentally disabled friend and this is stumping me.
My friend has an Android phone and tablet. For the purpose of this question, I don't think the models or Android version particularly matters.
He normally uses Chrome on both devices. He searches Google for an image he likes and saves it to Google Favorite Images (I am completely unfamiliar with this). When he clicks on the link or bookmark to his favorite images, a page opens showing a lot of GENERIC THUMBNAILS and a few actual thumbnails. According to him, it previously displayed correct (non-generic) thumbnails for all the photos (since he is developmentally disabled, I can't say for certain this is true, but it is what I am going on).
These images ARE images that I would expect to be filtered out by safesearch being turned on, but I cannot find anywhere that it is. Also, when the generic thumbnails are clicked, the image displays. The links appear to be links to the Google search result page rather than directly to the page with the image, but that is true of the thumbnails that display correctly as well, so it doesn't seem relevant.
The same thing occurs on both devices and doesn't relate directly to the browser, because I installed Firefox and get the same result. To display the link, I have to log in to his Google account though, which leads me to the conclusion that IF THIS ISN'T NORMAL that it is being controlled by his Google Acct somehow.
I have checked all settings I can find and don't find anything I think would cause this. I cleared the cache externally and internally in Chrome, no help.
I think there must be a simple answer that I am missing and hope someone else can provide some direction to me before I pull my hair out.

Nobody has any CLUE why this happened? This is supposed to be a newbie-friendly general board, but the questions that get answered are ones that should have been on a less general section, making this section apparently useless for its intended purpose.

Don't you LOVE it when you try to Google for your answer and the second result is the question you posted here?

[Q] Did someone install a GPS tracker on my Moto Android?

Probably just paranoid and misunderstanding something completely innocent but if this actually does indicate someone GPS tracking me then it's very important for me to know and take action, thanks!
Randomly was browsing my Logger debugger thing and noticed some things i didn't understand and hoping someone can shed some light on whats really happening because I don't want to jump to conclusions based on information I am not qualified to interpret.
What is happening in these instances (copied and pasted only the odd gps parts and put XXX's in place of numbers of my gf, roommate and other friend) search for gtx or gpstracking to see the main area of concern if i posted way too much, sorry
I had to attach it as a DOC because the forum said I couldn't post links to an outside website even tho I didn't and the code didn't appear to turn any of my text into a link but it must've i suppose
Can anyone shed some light on what the log displays and what occurred?
If not can someone maybe point me in the right direction to get my question answered? thanks!
Hm, InstaMapper and GTX do provide GPS tracking services. I'd look in Settings > Applications > Manage applications for anything GPS tracking related.. it does seem odd to me.
hmmm.... try flashing a new rom then and wiping everything because then if its a software tracker it will be gone
Thanks for the replies. Still kind of looking for confirmation on wether its an innocent bacground process tied to a program or if the phone numbers appearing with the process are somehow involved with either activating it or receiving my location.
Thanks!

[Q] Google Play incompatibility workaround - is there one that works?

Sorry to apparently flout the warning about poking my noobish nose in to post about something non-ROM related, but since this is a development and hacking section, I figure I must be in the right place.
I've been googling and futzing around with build.prop to no avail, so I figure I should ask someone with a clue before I go and kill my install or even brick my phone, I dunno.
Is there any sort of hack on this file that tells Play what CPU/GPU/etc you have but also says, I'll be the judge of what's compatible, thanks?
Or is there some other method?
Maybe some folks have started a Play mirror on the sly...? Surely I'm one of millions who are cheesed off about not having any way around this silliness.
Two possibilities, right?
Either there's an answer, or this is an issue which deserves the attention of folks with the talent to address it.
Anyone care to give me a clue which it is?
Well, here's a workaround of sorts: try to find what you're after at mobile.brothersoft.com, where the site simply asks you what your phone is, and lets you save it wherever.
If you want to try another model, don't bother choosing a different one via the site's controls, because the initial drop-downs you identified your phone with are no longer available (instead you have to choose from pages and pages of poorly-identified entries, half of which are missing pics). Just delete your cookies for that site and choose again.
Play told me Google Goggles wouldn't work for some reason; I told the Brothersoft site my Galaxy Mini was a Pop 1559 (pretty similar as far as I can tell), downloaded the app, and bingo.
Now to have a look for all that other stuff Google told me wouldn't work...
...Actually, there's no need to tell the Brothersoft site any lies; it doesn't enforce Google's 'incompatibility' call, or even tell you about it.
Why did it take me so long to come across that joint after searching high and low for a fix? I tried enough angles... seems both obvious and obscure at the same time.

[Q]What's the limitations of flash on Chrome for Android? can it play YouTube desktop

Hi,
I'm reading everywhere that Chrome for Android explicitly does not support Adobe flash. I need some clarification on what exactly this means? Please spare me the speal about how Adobe isn't supporting it anymore bla bla bla, I know this already.
What i would like to know is... is HTML5 supported now? The reason i ask this is cause I've been trying to make patches and fixes for this (mainly for my self) and i have managed to get the latest chrome to play embedded YouTube clips in the chrome browser and will seamless play and let me zoom in on full desktop mode of a website. I.E if I visit the xda main page i can view the content of the xda TV side bar in full desktop mode.
Is this because of HTML5 support or is this because one of my fixes has worked?
I don't want to make an arse of my self posting up a thread saying I've fixed it when this is native support and nothing new lol. Also i don't want to uninstall and start clean because if it's not normal and what i have done has worked.... cause I'm not sure which thing actually is the resolution? I've taken a back up and I can wipe and then just come back again but with the new SGS3 it takes a stupidly long amount of time to do a restoration. I've done work in system and in data partitions also so advanced restore is out of the question... plus it's likely easier for someone to post a simple reply "no you're a dip **** James YouTube was always capable of playing on chrome" or "heck dude you're on to something hurry up and find an answer and post your work up here"
I'm hoping it's the latter.
Ps. I thought I might also want to add here that I do not have Adobe flash player installed on my phone. Hence why I am specifically asking about HTML5 support? Yes I've used components of the plugins them selves but that may or may not be the reason for being able to view this content.
Pps. On previous versions of my hacked chrome i got a message on *some* websites that the plugin is detected but out of date. I don't get the standard message "Google Chrome does not support this plugin" like most users get. This is some sites only
What, no one?
Sooo many people are quick to jump down peoples necks about this subject sounding like experts roasting n00bs to use the search button, I've searched every single thread and my question has not been asked... so does this mean I'm on to something?
Can someone who has chrome who doesn't have Adobe flash apk installed (back it up and uninstall) and visit the xdadevelopers front page and see if YouTube works?
Screw it... no one is helpful here, I'll uninstall all my stuff and test my self.

Not sure exactly what you are wanting tested, but here goes. I'm running an LG 4X HD without the Flash .apk installed. If I go to the XDA main page I can then click on the "XDA TV Most Recent Video" and it goes to full-screen and plays, but that seems to be the YouTube player intself.
Have a look at this page - http://www.w3.org/2010/05/video/mediaevents.html - it works just fine as HTML5 within Chrome on my LG
Also worth looking at the HTML5Test site. Scroed out of 500, my laptop with Chrome scores 448 + 13 bonus points, my phone with Chrome score 390 + 11 bonus points, Dolphin on my phone scores 287 + 3 bonus points and IE10 running on Windows 8 on my laptop scores 320 + 6 bonus points. This site is the ideal test platform as it gives you a precise breakdown on exactly what the points are scored on and where the fails are, so if you are trying to do your own development work you can see almost instantly what effect the changes you make have had.
Thanks. That's exactly what i wanted. But that is what i also did last night. It did say on the chrome web site that it would be supporting HTML5 in the future.
I had been working on a flash solution on the previous versions on chrome up until now. Then to see that YouTube was working correctly (along with several forum posts stating that chrome doesn't support flash) that it would be difficult for me to wipe what i had been working on just to see if this was a standard feature or not? I ended up not getting a response and did it anyway.
That being said i have got very close with Chrome loading the plugin for flash and executing the flash video, so I'll revert everything back now and keep working on it.
Ps. No the YouTube clip doesn't play in full screen, it plays an embedded clip on the site in desktop mode (sorry about the confusion there) and yes i know this is a standard feature of HTML5 now that I've investigated further.

[Q] Gallery "sharpness" filter

Is there a way to disable the "sharpening" filter/effect that the stock gallery app seems to put on every single photo? I've seen a few related articles on this subject, but none of them really seem to solve the issue. If it means having to download a new application, I'm perfectly OK with that, but I'd like some recommendations if possible; I've tried a few others, but I really like the way the stock application handles organisation and display styles...
If there is already a thread on this that I missed while searching, let me know and I'll request this to be deleted.

Is Google censoring search terms on Android?

Hi, all.
I hope this is the right place to post this. If not, sorry.
Here's an odd discovery I made yesterday:
I like learning etymology and the history of words in general. I randomly decided to find out the origin of calling someone a p*ssy, as a term for general cowardice.
When did people start using this? Does it have an innocuous origin, as some internet sources claim? Questions like these.
So naturally I Googled it, using Google Now, as I usually do. To my surprise, my very general search term gave absolutely no results. No matter how I phrased it, no results came up.
I walked over to the pc, googled the exact same search term in Firefox, and BAM- 6.75 million results!
I manually browsed to google.com in Chrome for Android, and the proper results came up.
What's the deal? Am I not allowed to search for certain things? SafeSearch is deactivated, so that shouldn't be an issue.
I feel like I'm missing something obvious. That, or I suddenly can't trust the access to information on Google Now.
Specs:
Phone: Nexus 6p
Google app v. 5.7.14.19.arm64
I've included two images- one screenshot of my phone's results, and one picture of my computer's screen.
EDIT: can't post links to images yet.
Thanks in advance.
Did you try using google in your mobile browser? That has to be an issue of Google Now if you can't get a single result. Google has been pretty buggy with Chrome, Notifications, and mail the past day or two, so maybe that plays into it.
Google Now won't always necessarily give you the same results as a proper Google search. Google Now is meant for quick, contextual answers to questions asked. If you need something more in-depth, specific, and comprehensive, then just do a proper search (or 5) through the website.
