[Q]What's the limitations of flash on Chrome for Android? can it play YouTube desktop - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I'm reading everywhere that Chrome for Android explicitly does not support Adobe flash. I need some clarification on what exactly this means? Please spare me the speal about how Adobe isn't supporting it anymore bla bla bla, I know this already.
What i would like to know is... is HTML5 supported now? The reason i ask this is cause I've been trying to make patches and fixes for this (mainly for my self) and i have managed to get the latest chrome to play embedded YouTube clips in the chrome browser and will seamless play and let me zoom in on full desktop mode of a website. I.E if I visit the xda main page i can view the content of the xda TV side bar in full desktop mode.
Is this because of HTML5 support or is this because one of my fixes has worked?
I don't want to make an arse of my self posting up a thread saying I've fixed it when this is native support and nothing new lol. Also i don't want to uninstall and start clean because if it's not normal and what i have done has worked.... cause I'm not sure which thing actually is the resolution? I've taken a back up and I can wipe and then just come back again but with the new SGS3 it takes a stupidly long amount of time to do a restoration. I've done work in system and in data partitions also so advanced restore is out of the question... plus it's likely easier for someone to post a simple reply "no you're a dip **** James YouTube was always capable of playing on chrome" or "heck dude you're on to something hurry up and find an answer and post your work up here"
I'm hoping it's the latter.

Ps. I thought I might also want to add here that I do not have Adobe flash player installed on my phone. Hence why I am specifically asking about HTML5 support? Yes I've used components of the plugins them selves but that may or may not be the reason for being able to view this content.
Pps. On previous versions of my hacked chrome i got a message on *some* websites that the plugin is detected but out of date. I don't get the standard message "Google Chrome does not support this plugin" like most users get. This is some sites only

What, no one?
Sooo many people are quick to jump down peoples necks about this subject sounding like experts roasting n00bs to use the search button, I've searched every single thread and my question has not been asked... so does this mean I'm on to something?
Can someone who has chrome who doesn't have Adobe flash apk installed (back it up and uninstall) and visit the xdadevelopers front page and see if YouTube works?
Screw it... no one is helpful here, I'll uninstall all my stuff and test my self.

Not sure exactly what you are wanting tested, but here goes. I'm running an LG 4X HD without the Flash .apk installed. If I go to the XDA main page I can then click on the "XDA TV Most Recent Video" and it goes to full-screen and plays, but that seems to be the YouTube player intself.
Have a look at this page - http://www.w3.org/2010/05/video/mediaevents.html - it works just fine as HTML5 within Chrome on my LG
Also worth looking at the HTML5Test site. Scroed out of 500, my laptop with Chrome scores 448 + 13 bonus points, my phone with Chrome score 390 + 11 bonus points, Dolphin on my phone scores 287 + 3 bonus points and IE10 running on Windows 8 on my laptop scores 320 + 6 bonus points. This site is the ideal test platform as it gives you a precise breakdown on exactly what the points are scored on and where the fails are, so if you are trying to do your own development work you can see almost instantly what effect the changes you make have had.

Thanks. That's exactly what i wanted. But that is what i also did last night. It did say on the chrome web site that it would be supporting HTML5 in the future.
I had been working on a flash solution on the previous versions on chrome up until now. Then to see that YouTube was working correctly (along with several forum posts stating that chrome doesn't support flash) that it would be difficult for me to wipe what i had been working on just to see if this was a standard feature or not? I ended up not getting a response and did it anyway.
That being said i have got very close with Chrome loading the plugin for flash and executing the flash video, so I'll revert everything back now and keep working on it.

Ps. No the YouTube clip doesn't play in full screen, it plays an embedded clip on the site in desktop mode (sorry about the confusion there) and yes i know this is a standard feature of HTML5 now that I've investigated further.

Really stuck here, if you could help I would be greatful

Hey all a friend of mine told me of this great website...www.icefilms.info...It lets you stream movies right to your windows or mac comp. and even smart phones. Problem is I can't find a way to get it to work for the g tab. It uses a couple of programs and they are as follows:
-DivX web player, which compresses the video
-Grease monkey (monkey script), which reads the file to play the video
-ICE Quick stream, which allows you to stream video from megaupload and
2shared
I see that other ice film members got Grease monkey to work with IE, Firefox, Safari, and Google chrome. I found another user who got it to work with Ubuntu (although you had to jump through several hoops to make it work, seemed kinda difficult)
So my question is, how do I get this to work on my g tab? (I'm pretty new at this but I tried to download all the browsers since flashing my unit with tnt lite 2.2 and I keep getting an error message). So do I have to flash a new OS like windows, OSX, Ubuntu, or Linux? or is there a way to keep my android platform? (which I really like cause of the app store and I don't want to lose t
It seems like a real difficult question (to me anyway) but for anyone who can help I thank you a million times in advace
Why don't you go the smartphone route? The Android browser is not equal to Google Chrome or other browsers as it is more limited in functionality.
If the requirements are all 3 apps listed above, then you most likely need a different OS (or choose the smartphone option).
Have you tried the thread about playing on Android phones?
http://forum.icefilms.info/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=13540
No I haven't but will check that right now thanks, as for the smart phone way....just didn't want to do that cause if i'm watching a movie and someone calls it interferes with the movie also wanted to take advantage of the dock with the HDMI out on it to hook to my tv. I'll let you know if that thread works....thanks again
It worked thanks. I remember reading this post a couple weeks ago, but when it was talking about doing it on the phone I didn't think it would work on the g tablet. Like I said I'm pretty new at all this stuff but learning real fast with some great help. I am going to post a thread how to do it cause there are 2 different ways, you can use the yx player or you can watch it right on megaupload.

[Q] [ROM][Sept 8] Blackout ICS Incredible v3.1.0 FULLY WORKING!!! [4.0.4][Sense 3.6]

Searched this forum with "blackout ics incredible v3 1 0 fully working 4 0 4 sense 3 6 flash not working within dolphin"
Hi,
Was using Android_Revolution_HD-4G_7.0.3 from January this year. Did everything I needed it to.
Three weeks ago I tried Blackout_ICS_Incredible_v3.0.0 rom. Liked it a lot. My main issue was no flash video playing from "xhamster" (porn site) when I used any of the browsers I installed. Dolphin being the main one. Flash was set to always load. Desktop was picked. Still nothing happened. My phone ID = Incredible. So my thought was wrong browsers version had been down loaded!
So I tried Sabsa_Prime_v4.0_By_AlirezaB not to my liking but flash video worked. Phone was ID'ed as DHD.
Saw Blackout_ICS_Incredible_v3.1.0, installed but still have same issues, cant play flash video from "xhamster". My phone ID is Inspire 4G now. Might be going off in wrong direction with phone ID.
Rom is great, just cant get my daily porn but seriously who knows when I might go to a website other than porn which has a video I need to play.
As a first time poster I cant ask in the Blackout_ICS_Incredible_v3.1.0 thread.
So any ideas what I need to change on my phone plz?
What I have done...
Settings within stock browser set to go to desktop site.
Settings within Dolphin set to desktop mode, flash always on...
Never needed more than that before.
Thanks for reading.
*edit*
Forgot to change title, sorry...
Is this just a cos its 4.0.4 OS?
Stock browser plays flash from said site...
All browser ask "got main site or mobile site"
Maxthon lets me play in own player or download. Displays layout of site wrong.
OperaMini wants to down load video, link on small tab to watch in flash player, which not available for my device. Displays layout of site right.
DolphinMini lets me play in own player or down load. Displays layout wrong.
DolphinHD nothing works, no links, Displays layout of site wrong.
Skyfire wants to download. Displays site wrong.
Miren .....testing....
All around the web pages there are links saying "web page not available" & upside down android head under it whatever that means.

[Q] ICS and javascript

Since upgrading to ICS several days ago, two websites that I frequently visit on my tab are malfunctioning - seems to be javascript-related and somewhat browser independent. The sites are pcworld.com and nbcnews.com. In general, on pcworld.com, links don't work. Nothing happens when I tap them (they do highlight in light blue - that's all). On nbcnews.com, which forces the mobile site using some browsers, the links to stories and the down arrow to "show more stories" don't work. Both of these situations (pcworld and nbcnews) exist for the stock browser, Dolphin, and Chrome (also installed and tried Maxthon and Skyfire just to check - same issue there), but both sites work fine in Firefox and Opera. However, if I disable javascript in Dolphin, pcworld.com works fine, and I can link to stories on nbcnews. The "show more stories" in nbcnews.com still doesn't work but the screen behaves a bit differently when I tap it. Chrome, by the way, pretty much goes non-functional if I disable javascript in it - none of the browser control buttons such as bookmarks, recent sites, etc. work at all.
Pcworld was definitely working before going to ICS. I think nbcnews had gotten a little squirrelly. My conclusion that it's a javascript issue is based on the fact that disabling javascript restores link function to pcworld and at least to the nbcnews.com stories. Any thoughts?

I am currentlyon stock ICS DDLP5. it works fine with the stock browser. Also works with dolphin, firefox chrome and opera. No issues.
So now some people are actually getting the update from Verizon, and these websites seem to be working fine for them. I upgraded per Electron73's post. What might be different about my tab now than those who are getting upgraded by Verizon that would cause this issue?
Is it possible that the problem is that Electron73's instructions by which I upgraded to ICS result in a rooted device? I'm totally ignorant of this stuff and have no idea what possible problems could arise from being rooted. If that could be the problem, how can I unroot? I have no need to be rooted.
rooting only opening an acces to the device with administrator account... it only put 2 files to your device... one is a program to govern the root... superuser or supersu and another one is system/xbin/su binary files. that's it... to fully unroot you just need to delete this 2 files from your device.

Thanks. I've done that now. I didn't really think that would fix my problem, and it didn't.
I've read that people who got their tab updated by Verizon / Samsung (many by sending them in) have i815.07 V.LP10 / I815LP10 (note the .07) vs. the .04 that I have installed. Possible issue?

That's what I'm thinking. I wish electron could get an updated version. My wife is tired of seeing some elements on some of her favorite websites just not show up (images, links, etc). No way I'm unrooting until Verizon/Samsung get their OTA mess sorted out though.
As I mentioned, the websites that aren't working for me are failing in the stock browser, dolphin, chrome, and every other browser I've tried except Firefox, Opera, and now Puffin. Tonight I stumbled upon how to view the javascript console in the stock browser. When I view the javascript console after attempting to follow a link to an article on pcworld.com, I see a long ULR (with static.ak.facebook.com in the middle), followed by the console message "Given URL is now allowed in the Application configuration.: One or more of the given URLs is not allowed by the App's settings. It must match the Website URL or Canvas URL, or the domain must be a subdomain of one of the App's domains." there is a different message about Viewport argument value "device-width;" when I try to navigate the mobile nbcnews.com website. Pcworld works fine if I disable javascript; on the nbcnews mobile site, I can link to articles with javascript disabled but I still can't "Show more stories." Wierdly, about every 1000 tries or so (literally), a link or "Show more stories" will randomly work with javascript enabled, but only for one try.
Any ideas??
Yet another issue - hitting the back button in the stock browser, Dolphin, etc., usually doesn't take me to the previous visited webpage; it just reloads the current page (with some exceptions). If not for Opera and Firefox, my tab would basically be useless for web browsing. (Interestingly, Chrome does not have this issue even though it shares the stock browser and Dolphin's issue of not being able to follow links on nbcnews.com, pcworld.com, etc.) I like the device but am starting to wonder if I should give it up... Any idea if reverting to Honeycomb (!) would restore web browsing? HC was crap but at least I could use the browser.
Based on a little back and forth with Dolphin support and some deductive reasoning, it seems clear to me that any webkit-based browser is going to give me the same issues. I read this morning that Opera is getting ready to abandon its in-house web engine in favor of webkit. That will leave me with just Firefox and Puffin (which some say is insecure and in any case lacks a lot of basic features), neither of which I really like using.
So something seems inherently broken in webkit in the i815.04 V.LP10 version of ICS I have installed. I suppose many don't use their tablets extensively for web browsing so maybe this isn't an issue for most users, but I do browse a lot with it and now feel like my tab is "broken" (sort of the way I felt with Honeycomb that prompted me not to wait for Verizon to fix its failed update). I went so far as to buy a Nexus 7 yesterday morning, but I really didn't like the display and returned it in the afternoon.
I think in Electron73's post there was a link to a download that could be applied to return the tab to Honeycomb. Is that true, and if so has anyone tried reverting and then getting ICS through the OTA update? (It seems that people who have v.07 instead of .04 don't have the browsing problems I've been posting about.) If I reverted to Honeycomb (assuming that's possible) and couldn't get the update OTA, would Verizon / Samsung detect that it had been modified if I tried to get the update by sending it in as so many have had to do? Any other thoughts on possible fixes? Obviously I am pretty ignorant...

It seems as if my browsing issues may not be similar to what you're experiencing. What I was seeing on my wife's was images not showing up on certain shopping websites (no matter what browser she used) , and sponsored links not working in Google searches. I discovered the problem: the hosts file is NOT stock, and is set to block a lot of sites, or elements within them. I removed every entry in the file except for 127.0.0.1 localhost, and EVERY problem she was having has disappeared!

It was a bit of a PITA at first since none of my edits would stick. Finally found an app called Hosts Editor Pro in the Store. Soon as you open it up, it seems to replace the current file with a very basic one. Once I rebooted after that, I checked the contents of the file, and only the one entry was there.

So do you happen to know if she can follow links on the sites I mentioned (nbcnews.com, pcworld.com) without any problem? And go back to the previous page by hitting the back button? I think one person replied to my original question that they could not, but I'm still trying to figure out if it's some anomaly or a universal result of updating to 4.0.4 in this manner.

Tried both sites, and every action you described, and both sites work perfectly, pop-up ads and all.
When you flashed electrons build, did you use the wipe version, or not?

I tried to no-wipe first, but it hung for about a half hour, so I went back and did the wipe version.
I've given up on it. I'm giving the tab to my daughter, who won't care about a few browsing incoveniences. I went to Verizon today and bought a new one. I was nervous because I planned to return it if it wouldn't get ICS OTA and they said there would be a $70 restocking fee. But when they stuck the SIM card in and started setup, I could see that it already had ICS on it (the bright blue circle was spinning). The setup didn't look fresh (didn't start with the setup wizard or whatever it's called -- booted directly into the default homepage), even though the tab was sold as new and certainly appears to be. Also, Baseband is i815.04, not .07. My uneducated guess is that the've taken new ones in the warehouse that had Honeycomb and flashed ICS, then shipped them to the stores, so they won't have to deal with all the the returns.

Runescape 3 HTML5 on Android?

Alright this is very possible and i'm just seeking opinions and ideas on how to get this going full throttle. I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 on Verizon and i've noticed that with the touchwiz browser I can actually reach the login screen for the HTML5 beta. The browser just doesnt know how to operate with HTML5 that well i dont believe. I've tried multiple browsers and these are the ones that were no goes for me:
Chrome
Opera
Dolphin
Firefox
Chrome was no chance. Opera said it didnt support html5 or something. Dolphin didnt support WebGL and firefox wouldnt store the large amounts of data necessary.
I am a noob at this but im just starting to learn more about this tech.
We need a browser that has these abilities:
WebGL
Local Storage for large amounts(not sure the term)
HTML5 Support
Considering the popularity of the game i think if someone could put together a script or just a modded version of a browser that could run it that would be really nice.:good:
I doubt anyone has the interest to do it though. But i think that possibly the person who could put together a apk or script or anything that would allow u to open up the html5 Runescape game and interact with it, would get alot of good donations. I can click on the different parts of the login screen but the username/password selections would not bring up a keyboard.
TL-DR
Anyone have a clue to get RS3(HTML5) working on Android?
Heres a Nexus 7 running it but idk how they got past the login screen.

Note: When im on different Roms i usually cant even get the game to load. Browser related issues.

I know I probably won't get a response to this post but I thought I would try anyway. I'm running a samsung galaxy tab 3 SMT 310 Android 4.2 .2. I would love to play runescape on my tablet I tried enabling OpenGL through Google's flags like it said in the forum but I cannot find an option to enable OpenGL in the flag list . Can anyone help me?
Hit thanks if I helped u sent from SM-T310 using Tapatalk
Gave it a shot:
I've had it running on my Nexus 5. I used an app called "Hacker's Keyboard" to log in. Sadly, Chrome crashes before I am able to get in-game and do anything. I've also tried puffin browser and the miui browser but neither support WebGL. Just as a side note: I found that when logging in, I had to tap a position up and to the right from the actual position of the button I wished to press. I wish more game developers would of had mobile gaming in mind when they launched it, even if they didn't there are still companies that remake older games that can be played on your Nexus. For instance, the older version of runescape, has runescape classic android, an APK you run, you do not even need to do any work arounds for it.

I bought an Amazon Fire HD 8 just after Xmas, and was able to get gplay and launcherhjk just fine, but this one is a deal breaker.
IT HAS NO FLASH PLAYER TO SPEAK OF!!! and i cant find any information on how to get this working ive been hat it for so long im at a total loss.
if it does have flash, it does not substitute for Adobe Flash Player. Ive been able to get my hands on the adobe apk, and installation seems to have been successful, allthough the adobe.settings site DOES NOT work on ANY browser. the main issue, when i try to open my schools work website, it says i still need to download adobe flash, with no means of enabling flash or plugins etc. I have got it to work with dolphin and opera .. KINDA .. extremely slow and glitchy but the worksheets and answer boxes are visible now with dolphin and opera browsers and adobe installed. but wait, theres more! every submit action causes the entire thing to not recognize that i have adobe flash, for about 30 seconds,, then it force refreshes and again, most content visible like before, but some (graphs and others) are not visible, only the adobe banner [not compatible or not installed] is what displays in its place. this is extremely critical to me, i cannot afford a more expensive REAL ANDROID device, and the adobe flash is ABSOLUTELY necessary to participate in my classes. I only have a certain amount of time to drop the class in order to get refunded, so time is of some essence. how can a tablet not have a flash player... is this amazons crappy stripped androidOS or am i doing something wrong? WITHOUT FLASH IT MIGHT AS WELL BE A BRICK.
also any direction to rooting info may be helpful.
THANKS AGAIN!
-Imagine
