Any app or method to disable update from the play store for some apps? - General Questions and Answers

there are some apps i dont want to update. So i dont even want them to show available updates in play store.

Use ApkExport to make installable copies for backup in case of update.
Disable wifi and set Playstore to auto update by wifi only.
Use Karma Firewall to block Playstore.
Use a package disabler to disable Playstore.

I don't think they are trying to block the ability to update, it seems to me that they want to be able to update some of their apps but there are apps that they don't want to update or even show on the list of available app updates, they want those apps to not even be shown in the Playstore update list.

I am using TitaniumBackup pro for setting up schedules to disable market updates for specified apps. But you need multiple schedules since we don't know when the Play Store will check for updates. And it needs root.

I generally take 2 seconds to update all of my apps by tapping in the "update all" button. So, if I dont want some apps to update, I have to tap one by one the apps I want to update or tap the "update all" button and cancel the update on the apps I dont want to update. So I beleive it is faster if I "block" updates to the apps I want so they dont appear in the update list and hence I can tap the "update all" button and save time.
Apart from this, if you are not gonna provide any solution, you should keep scrolling. Your comment apports nothing.

I'm still using a 5 yo version of WPS office when it was still freeware. Try finding a better stand alone freeware Android office app that can write docx. The updated WPS office isn't free.
After over 2 years many of my factory load apps are still running on that version. Gmail and Gmaps updates are inferior to the Samsung factory load for example.
Many times there's nothing to be gained by updating a trusted app that runs well and a lot to lose.
Same applies to the firmware as far as I'm concerned. I spent too much time optimizing this load to have upgrades and updates ruin it.
Updates have cost me much more needless troubleshooting time than the 2 pieces of puny malware I dealt with in the last 2.5 years.

My experience is different. All apps in the list get updated when hitting Update All, irrespective of whether 'Auto Update' is enabled or disabled for any app.
And I think that this is the expected behaviour because disabling Auto Update shouldn't disable manual update.

Market Autoupdate Bulk Toggle app is now on the Market! (v1.2.1 11/8)

We just released an app to the Market for rooted devices running Froyo that enables quick and easy toggling on and off of automatic updates for all of your installed Market apps (aside from system apps that update via the Market).
Search for "market autoupdate" on the Android Market and try it out now!
Let us know what you think of it. Some people mentioned they would be interested to see widget support for this. If enough people want a widget, we'll consider adding widget support to this app!
v1.1 adds a progress spinner and has some internal changes.
v1.1.1 fixes a crash that occurs when trying to click the same button twice. It also fixes an issue that caused the app not to work on high memory devices.
v1.2 fixes a problem where the app would not work on devices without a sqlite3 binary (which includes most rooted stock ROMs that I didn't account for).
v1.2.1 adds a new icon.
EDIT:

so dose this turn on/off autoupdate feature? will you still see updates? im also curious about the update all feature, is that disabled?
Awesome work, defo will be useful. Wish I'd had it a month ago then I'd be £30 better off due to roaming auto update fun times
hi,

only a question (not a bug)
is possible to make a option in your program to enable autoupdate
in / data applications and to disable for / system applications?

It would be great if it could be integrated with Tasker.

EXACTLY what I just logged in to say! I'd love to be able to automatically turn off market autoupdates when I'm not connected to wifi (there's no way I'd remember to manually turn it on and off all the time!), but I imagine there needs to be some additional functionality built into this app first to allow interaction via Tasker?

We're still looking into why it doesn't work on system applications. When we figure that out, we'll update the application right away.
On another note, 1.2 includes it's own sqlite3 binary, so most of the people who had trouble getting it working should find that it works for them now.
Awesome. Thanks! I was looking for something like this =]
Personally, I'd rather see a list of installed apps with a checkbox indicating Autoupdate status so I can quickly run down my list of apps (perhaps with a tab separating system from installed apps) and check/uncheck Autoupdate for each one. Currently, you have to go into each app separately to do this, which is a major pain... Hope this can be considered for a future update?
I went to slide me and it download but wouldn't install and I try to download it in the Android Market, it download but it say "installation error unknown reason - 18" so I can't install... any help? I'm using an Evo rooted with Clockwork recovery.

Great app!!! It would be nice to be able to choose what to update though, all in 1 simple list, just as it was previously mentioned. Also, the ability to turn off auto-updating when roaming would be useful too (however I do have my phone set to disable data altogether when I'm roaming, it might be useful for others).
keep up the great work!
Wonderful little app, thanks!
Doesn't it work on Android 2.1?
Thanks for your app

[App] PermissionDog

Hi just made an app with my friend ventrix.
PermissionDog lists all the applications you have installed and checks out what permissions each app is using.
Based on these permissions it sets how dangerous the application can be.
PermissionDog also supports realtime protection. Every time you launch an application
a notification pops up and shows how many permissions the app is using
and how dangerous that application is. (in case you missed reading the permissions when you downloaded the app).
You can exclude any app from Real Time Protection (RTP) or disable the RTP service.
It's like a really lightweight antivirus.
Please note that the application is in Beta stage. Is fully functional and hopefully bug free but needs some tweeks.
Serius updates will come to the next few days!

yeah always do it with all my apps ,kinda starting the good karma. Tell me what you think about the app
Great. I think I will give it a try.
UPDATE: Just installed....very nice! I like how you can sort apps by permission danger. Additionally, I like how clicking on a secific permission will list all apps utilizing that particular permission. Of all apps installed I have two with the red dannnger. I was glad the two were the only apps with that permission level but now am assured that no others have it..
This app makes it easy to do quick analysis.
Love the idea of this app as soon as I saw it pop-up on my XDA Twitter feed.
Installed on my HTC Thunderbolt with the latest ROM (no root) but it was hanging and giving me a Force Close/Wait. I do have a lot of apps installed so I thought this might be an issue.
Rebooted my Thunderbolt and it finally loaded okay. Selected Sort by danger and getting another Force Close/Wait. Selected Wait and it finally sorted.
I really like the app and look forward to some tweaks that might resolve some of the delays for us "app hounds".
Thank you for the post. We are aware of that issue and working on it. The problem is fetching application icons is too expensive some times. We working on making the "fetching" async. Plz wait for an update in the next few days
Awesome! I'll keep watching and will continue to provide feedback.
As a suggestion, is it possible/practical to add the standard rotating "clock" so a user will know it is working in the background?
Can't thank you guys enough for this app. Hope you also eventually have a "paid" version so those of us who want to support you and remove the ads can do so.
I agree with BiteMaster
I get a FC everytime I try to uninstall an app from PermissionDog. I have sent the "Report" three times, idk if it helps...

It seems like cyanogen mod has problems with the "com.android.settings/com.android.settings.InstalledAppDetails" activity.

So, now we check if the uninstall activity exists and if not, we open the Android Market to uninstall it from there.

The latest CyanogenMod lets you do just that.
http://androinica.com/2011/05/cyanogenmod-nightlies-secures-android/
Works on stock Dell Streak 2.2.2
Very simplified method of seeing what has what access.
I wonder about how you calculate the "Danger" level, because i have an app installed that is using only one permission (external_storage) and is rated 4.1. On the other side i have an app that is using four permissions (internet, external_storage, get_accounts, network_state) and that results in rating of 3.5?! I guess lower rating means less risk in using that app?
I would expect an app that uses more permissions to have a higher rating than an app with less permissions.
Btw, i could only start the app once, any further attempt to start it results in a fc (you got a report).

[Q] How to open "App permissions" on Android 4.2.2?

Hi,
today I saw in notifications "App permissions" and opened it, it allows me to manage permissions of installed apps. This should be a native feature as far as I know, the device runs 4.2.2 and is not rooted and the only managing app I have there is 3C toolbox but even that doesn't seem to have app permissions on it's own.
I think I saw this when I first got the phone as well, I had reset it last week and it notified me about this "App permissions" today.
I like it and would like to know how can I open this settings page? Via menu, or secret code or how can I get there again once I close it?
When I opened it from notifications it was turned off. I have turned it on, now when I try to turn it off it says:
"Apps will directly get permissions without your confirmation."
And I get asked when apps try to access something and seems like I am able to limit apps individually and their individual permissions and also manage them on this "Apps permissions" page.
I have not been able to find it in settings, manage apps nor Engineering mode, where is it hiding? How can I open it?
It looks like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

Thanks.
Come on, someone has to have Android 4.2 and the knowledge here folks! Where is this "App permissions" hiding, where can it be opened?
It wasn't an option in 4.2
There are some app permissions editor apps you can download.
Before install app maximum app display and 3rd party permission app is another good option.

False, it is available in 4.2.
They changed it afterwards with 4.4 there you can get the opp apps or what it is to get the feature back. It's hidden in 4.2 though, hence I don't know how to get to it once I close it but it is obviously there. You can see the screenshots hey?

I don't know how you could get to it if it is part of your settings somewhere .
You can search "app ops" for some apps to get you to the hidden menu.
The app , Advanced Permissions Manager can remove permissions and reinstall app without them. Lucky Patcher can remove some app components and permissions then reinstall and some more. Xprivacy is an xposed module can restrict anything of an app.
To keep an app from being able to connect on data, wifi, you could use a firewall app. Xposed has a module for that it's called, LightningWall
App ops is a thing introduced in 4.3/4.4, so not to be confused with this older "App permissions" manager that is hidden in 4.2.

Does that mean the apps ops wouldn't work ?
AppOps
and similar applications give a message that says: "This app is incompatible with your device."
Which is obvious since these are meant for 4.3 and 4.4. Versions prior to these are different when it comes to permission management. And 4.2 has no appops.
Did you find something that will work for you ?
No, no one seems to know how to open this built in "App permissions" manager that I have in 4.2.2 and could one time open from the notifications.
Sure there are 3rd party apps and options to root and so on but why when there are features in the OS already.
Hi,
Well i have read it on the web - it seems that Android version 4.2.2 removed the "Permission Manager".
I'm in the same situation till i migrated my smartphone OS from Android 4.2 to 4.2.2 - thats' really enoying.
I suppose i'll flash the ROM to recover Android version 4.2 (i mean the official factory Android version of my smartphone) or something.....
Cheers.
root device and install 3rd party app for app permission

Anyone have N920VVRS3BQB1 (last MM update)

I didn't like QB9 (Nougat) and rolled back to QA1 (MM Jan update). Turns out there is also QB1 which is the MM Feb update. Can someone share N920VVRS3BQB1 please?
I'd like to get that also but the only places I've seen it want $$ just to download it - some as much as $25.00. That is the version I've got on my phone (BQB1) but since I'm not rooted I don't think there is a way to get a copy. I tried to see if there was an update in /cache/fota with ADB but no luck (probably since it's not rooted). I know the BQA1 is easy enough to find. If I recall I did see one place that wanted only $1 for the download but I wasn't sure if it was a good download - never heard of the site and I think it was in a language I didn't know.
---------- Post added at 06:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:25 PM ----------
By the way - you were able to roll back from QB9 (Nougat) to MM QA1 with no problem ?
I managed to find QB1 via Google. Search for "N920VVRS3BQB1 Download Firmware – Samsung Update". It's on the first page. Hope it helps.
Using ODIN, I flashed QB1 (my phone had QB9) but it got stuck on the Verizon logo boot loop. I went into the custom menu and did a factory reset. It booted fine afterwards and it was QB1, not QB9. Today I got an alert to update to QB9 but I selected "Later". I want remove that prompt permanently. Any ideas?
Awesome - thanks so much! I spent a lot of time looking for that but that is the first time I was able to find it as a free d/l. I think there are a number of ways to stop OTA updates. This phone I have isn't activated but I still block updates using a couple things like BK disabler and Startup manager from this site: (no www) downloadandroid.info - it's half way down the page. Once installed go to the 'System' column and click on the plus sign on the right for "System Updates" and it will block it from startup up on your phone. I think there may be some other things to block with BK disabler like Samsung push service. Also there are some methods to just remove notification - Googling got this as a first hit:
Disable OTA Notification
Swipe down the notification panel and tap and hold the OTA notification card.
Now tap the info icon.
Doing so will take you the App notifications page for Google Play services.
Just tap the Block option to enable or disable update notifications.
Oh and I forgot if you don't want any updates I assume you know how to turn on "Developer Options" - just look in there and turn of 'Auto update system'.

Just a heads up.. You might want to be careful with some of the "apk" apps that you choose to install onto your phone from those types of websites like that and the reason I say this is because while you think you're installing an app to kill the OTA update notification, inside of that same apk is more than just the OTA update notification blocker there can be any number of other features included such as the ability of the person who made that app to download all the information from your phone, text messages, emails, calls and anything else they choose and they can even turn the camera on and you wouldn't even know it's recording you and listening to everything.. I'd stick with the Play Store really because they check for malicious code and apps whereas those websites don't care, they're just a hosting platform. The other thing is that, that app requires administrators access to the phone and that gives it the ability to do a lot more than you think!
Thanks for the advice on that. I'm not sure where I got it for my own phone but I normally upload everything I get to virustotal.com (which now also checks android apk files) where it's scanned by some 50 or more antivirus scanners. I also run CM Security which I believe is one of the best so anything that goes on my phone is normally fairly well checked out by the time it's installed. Cheetah Mobile Security scans it as soon as it's installed and while I know some people say you don't need AV if you are only getting from the Play store I have read enough stories to say that doesn't always hold true. That site I pointed ynag to was just the first site I found when I googled that App as I don't believe it was on the Play store. And it's good for everyone to have the philosophy of "intstaller beware"
I have a note 5 with that build (n920vvrs3bqb1) that boots to recovery. It says custom on startup logo screen. Which firmware do i use to flash back to stock

hi, i formatted my S9+ just when BK Manager and MDM Extension apks were removed from Play Store.
my question is, i have both of these apks files in my storage, will i be able to install them manually and whether the disabler app will still work as it was before? can someone kindly advise?
i have emailed the developer a couple of times asking the same questions, but not getting any response or help and was never my intent to ask for a refund.
File 1. com-kunkunsoft-packagedisabler1515128400
File 2. MDM_Extension_2_Full
as for the time being, is there any other good disabler app that we can use safely? i feel so lost without this app/feature.
thank you.
i had my phone factory reset yesterday,
and now bk stuck in activate screen.

It's dead as the mdm manager & extension r removed possibly as per Samsung's request.
Im tired of Samsung's forced bloats and the consequences.
SABS still works great. Just Google notsabs and you will find the instructions on how to install it.
Adhell used to tell you which were safe to remove and which were critical system ones it doesn't look like sab's does this is there a way that I'm not seeing to know what is safe to disable

After using this apk on galaxy s9, disabled many system apks with some S8 script, my fingerprint start to have issues and finally stop working at all. Probably should flash stock firmware because factory reset do not solve fp issues. Think i disabled some system apk which is in colaboration with fp sensor and now its use is broken. Leaved it in samsung service because of warranty, device is 2 weeks in use just. Perhaps i should know flash same stock firmware with odin again but dont want to mess until i am sure it is not hardware fail.
In service menu sensor give me error.
Be careful what to disable on newer devices..

Do you know how it compares to SABS, I'm guessing adhell3 is easier to use?

I could never get SABS to work so I have nothing to compare it to but it's pretty simple not idiot proof or anything but easy enough I never used anything besides adaway and package disabler before and figured this out in a few mins its has the best of both in one app

I got Adhell3 installed using instructions on Reddit. It was time consuming because I hit a few snafus in Android studio. I havent disabled anything yet though, lol.
