I didn't like QB9 (Nougat) and rolled back to QA1 (MM Jan update). Turns out there is also QB1 which is the MM Feb update. Can someone share N920VVRS3BQB1 please?
I'd like to get that also but the only places I've seen it want $$ just to download it - some as much as $25.00. That is the version I've got on my phone (BQB1) but since I'm not rooted I don't think there is a way to get a copy. I tried to see if there was an update in /cache/fota with ADB but no luck (probably since it's not rooted). I know the BQA1 is easy enough to find. If I recall I did see one place that wanted only $1 for the download but I wasn't sure if it was a good download - never heard of the site and I think it was in a language I didn't know.

By the way - you were able to roll back from QB9 (Nougat) to MM QA1 with no problem ?
I managed to find QB1 via Google. Search for "N920VVRS3BQB1 Download Firmware – Samsung Update". It's on the first page. Hope it helps.
Using ODIN, I flashed QB1 (my phone had QB9) but it got stuck on the Verizon logo boot loop. I went into the custom menu and did a factory reset. It booted fine afterwards and it was QB1, not QB9. Today I got an alert to update to QB9 but I selected "Later". I want remove that prompt permanently. Any ideas?
Awesome - thanks so much! I spent a lot of time looking for that but that is the first time I was able to find it as a free d/l. I think there are a number of ways to stop OTA updates. This phone I have isn't activated but I still block updates using a couple things like BK disabler and Startup manager from this site: (no www) downloadandroid.info - it's half way down the page. Once installed go to the 'System' column and click on the plus sign on the right for "System Updates" and it will block it from startup up on your phone. I think there may be some other things to block with BK disabler like Samsung push service. Also there are some methods to just remove notification - Googling got this as a first hit:
Disable OTA Notification
Swipe down the notification panel and tap and hold the OTA notification card.
Now tap the info icon.
Doing so will take you the App notifications page for Google Play services.
Just tap the Block option to enable or disable update notifications.
Oh and I forgot if you don't want any updates I assume you know how to turn on "Developer Options" - just look in there and turn of 'Auto update system'.

Just a heads up.. You might want to be careful with some of the "apk" apps that you choose to install onto your phone from those types of websites like that and the reason I say this is because while you think you're installing an app to kill the OTA update notification, inside of that same apk is more than just the OTA update notification blocker there can be any number of other features included such as the ability of the person who made that app to download all the information from your phone, text messages, emails, calls and anything else they choose and they can even turn the camera on and you wouldn't even know it's recording you and listening to everything.. I'd stick with the Play Store really because they check for malicious code and apps whereas those websites don't care, they're just a hosting platform. The other thing is that, that app requires administrators access to the phone and that gives it the ability to do a lot more than you think!
Thanks for the advice on that. I'm not sure where I got it for my own phone but I normally upload everything I get to virustotal.com (which now also checks android apk files) where it's scanned by some 50 or more antivirus scanners. I also run CM Security which I believe is one of the best so anything that goes on my phone is normally fairly well checked out by the time it's installed. Cheetah Mobile Security scans it as soon as it's installed and while I know some people say you don't need AV if you are only getting from the Play store I have read enough stories to say that doesn't always hold true. That site I pointed ynag to was just the first site I found when I googled that App as I don't believe it was on the Play store. And it's good for everyone to have the philosophy of "intstaller beware"
I have a note 5 with that build (n920vvrs3bqb1) that boots to recovery. It says custom on startup logo screen. Which firmware do i use to flash back to stock

Installed the update. Still not working, only now it is worse than before.
It still wouldn't allow me to switch apps, it still didn't launch on phone boot up, but now the update prevented me from being able to install apps from the Amazon App Store. I'd hit the install button after the app had downloaded, but it wouldn't register the button press. I could hit the cancel button though just fine. Play Market apps installed just fine. As soon as I Force Stop Fast5, I cold install apps from Amazon just fine.
Very weird. It works perfectly on my device (SGS2) and my friends devices and all emulator devices (2.1+) and i do not get other complains... what's going on?
Have you installed custom rom or something? Do you see all 5 icons? After pressing nothing happens? Or an error?
I would understand if you'd get some errors, but if it's not booting with the device? There is no way it won't boot at normal device configuration...
Thank you for you cooperation!
Have a look...:
see it in action
I think it's isolated issue but I'll try to fix it for you if you'd like to use this app . Wain for report (if you sent it)
Works fine for me. Absolutely perfect!
its a simple task switcher. didn't see any task "manager" function in app(where we able to kill tasks). or it will be available in the future updates?

Yep it's a switcher. Will change topic name, sorry. But it works fine for you, right?
It works now on ICS too. There should be a new version active on the market within 1 hour (as always). There was one issue. Fixed.
I will test it. Great job
Edit: "error process buy" say my market
Defy > Defy+
Sorry my bad english
Error process buy? Lol... it's free. Did you try do it from the PC? Market kinda buggy thing. Thanks!
I had no problems with installation nor application so does my friends .
Updated version has been released. Should be working fine for everyone, regardless of Android version (2.1 +).
Try it
the update fixed task-clicking on ICS
- could you please add #111111 as an background color option? that's the color used by android for notification backgrounds
- when opening notification area the icons reorder after like 1-2 seconds. I guess that's because the app isn't running in bg permanently but it's still quite annoying, especially when you're just about to hit one of the icons and then it gets replaced with a adifferent one
- is it possible to have more than 5 apps? (yeah yeah, then the name wouldn't make sense anymore, but...) there's so much whitespace between the icons, it'd well fit 7 of them
Sure. No problem. Download an updated version (should appear on the market within one hour) and tell me if you'd like something more. Everyone else too . I'll see what i can do.
As for 7 icons instead of standard 5 on really large screens: could you please send me an email or post me here if you don't mind everyone looking how do it looks on your screen?
Thanks!
thanks for adding ICS color.
for large screen: just turn your phone 90° to widescreen and you can see it for yourself
any idea about the slow updating?
Check out the newest update (v 1.08). Tick a checkbox in preferences, restart an app and see if that fits your needs . As for more than 5 icons - i'll figure it out if you want to
Cheers!
seems good so far. will report back after some more usetime when it's got a bit more to do than show low-memory-apps what does the checkbox do? start a persistant service?
could you please close the notification bar when selecting an app? always makes me think the click wasn't registered.
No, it just shortens update time . Don't worry if it works right . As for notification: will put an option to do so shortly.
Cheers!
This app blocks the 3rd Party App Install on my device (Motorola Defy). You can still press the cancel button, but the install button has no function.
Tested it on a custom CM7 Version and on a Official CM7 Version(with fullwipe).
I just went into the "Settings" on my phone, then "System Update", then "Updated Motorola Software", and Jellybean was available.
Just completed the install and verified Jellybean 4.1.2 is installed.

Saying check for update not available, for me. I downloaded the zip posted but was checking if the OTA would finally show up.
Maybe it's being overloaded?
I got the OTA update last night as well. Installed no problem, I am completely stock unrooted. I did notice on first power up that in the apps menu under settings random letters were missing or in black font. Turned off, powered up again and the issue seemed to fix itself.
Hate the grey Google search bar

Go to settings>apps disable/uninstall Google Search. The latest revisions also access your camera and mic without user permission, so there's plenty reason to remove it anyway.

Lose your Android device, either to theft or your own forgetfulness, is certainly not fun, that's what happened to my wife last month with my Nexus 7 3G. Google has finally released its response to the loss or theft of your Androphone with Android Device Manager.
It should hit your device soon, if not already, to help you locate or wipe (factory reset) your Android device lost. Here's how to use it.
INSTALL
Click to collapse
Android Device Manager will automatically hit your device without having to do a thing. If you don't have it yet, you will soon receive. But before you can take full advantage of ADM, you will need to do some things, such as allowing factory reset on your device. Its implementation is quite simple..
First, visit google.com/android/devicemanager.
and if you want you can download the apk => com.google.android.gms-1.apk - MD5 Sum: d1884b750aff2dc3ff435f95510420cb - Size: 7.30 MB (7649893 bytes)
From there, a map will pop up with some information about your device, along with a prompt to enable the Erase Device function of ADM. You can either manually open up the green Google Settings app, which should be in your app drawer, or use the send notification link on the ADM webpage, giving you an easy way to find exactly where you need to be to enable remote factory reset.
If you don’t use the notification, just open Google Settings, and select Android Device Manager.
The option to toggle both the ability to factory reset your phone from ADM, and locate it, will be in there.
Using ADM
Click to collapse
After you’ve done that, you’re ready to set to go. At the moment, there are three main functions of Android Device Manager. You can ring a lost phone, factory reset a lost phone or locate your device on a map using your phone's GPS. You can also rename what your device appears as in ADM.
Simply you can load ADM online and will show you the location of your device, but if you’re tracking it while it’s on the move, there’s a refresh button that will recalculate your device’s location.
If your device is located somewhere simply, like in your own house, you may want to use the Ring function. As Google explains, even if your phone is on silent, using the ring function in ADM will force your phone to ring at full volume for five minutes. To turn it off, you have to press the power button on your phone.
There’s nothing on your device indicating why it’s ringing, you’d have to know how to stop the ringing or play around to figure it out.
If you believe your device has been stolen, and you have some precious information on it, then the Erase Device function will come in handy. After you click Erase Device, a pop up will tell you what it will erase (essentially everything), and what will happen after that.
Unfortunately, Google says it “may not be able to wipe the content of the SD card in your device.” Best of luck if you have anything private on there.
If your device is off when you try to factory reset it, have no fear. The moment it’s turned on, it will be erased.
You may think erasing the content of your device is the best thing to do as soon as you find it’s missing, but you may want to hold on. After you erase your device, ADM will not work anymore.
Conclusion:

For the moment, that’s all there is to it. As with all of Google’s products, we expect to see more features added in time and more practice

Yes, all seems work I haven't still tried because the apk wasn't release when my N7 has been stolen by the hands of my wife
It should have an option to force-open the gps setting in google settings for accurate device location in case the gps is turned off & lost.
Sent Via I9300, Stock XXUFME7, 4.2.2.
Tanks for helping
In My GS4, ADM is at:
Settings>More>Security>Device Administrators>ADM
You just have to tick it.
Another option is going to ADM webpage and "send a notification to device", it will open the dialogue box in GS4 to authorize remote Factory Reset via ADM.
Hope this helps some.
I had my phone beside me while watching curling the other day and had no clue what adm was. All the sudden my phone started ringing bus I wasn't getting a call so I thought nothing of it until my phone looked like it turned off and on. When it turned back on everything was gone. About 400 photos, all my apps, videos, everything was gone. How did this happen?
there are some apps i dont want to update. So i dont even want them to show available updates in play store.

I don't think they are trying to block the ability to update, it seems to me that they want to be able to update some of their apps but there are apps that they don't want to update or even show on the list of available app updates, they want those apps to not even be shown in the Playstore update list.

I generally take 2 seconds to update all of my apps by tapping in the "update all" button. So, if I dont want some apps to update, I have to tap one by one the apps I want to update or tap the "update all" button and cancel the update on the apps I dont want to update. So I beleive it is faster if I "block" updates to the apps I want so they dont appear in the update list and hence I can tap the "update all" button and save time.
Apart from this, if you are not gonna provide any solution, you should keep scrolling. Your comment apports nothing.

I'm still using a 5 yo version of WPS office when it was still freeware. Try finding a better stand alone freeware Android office app that can write docx. The updated WPS office isn't free.
After over 2 years many of my factory load apps are still running on that version. Gmail and Gmaps updates are inferior to the Samsung factory load for example.
Many times there's nothing to be gained by updating a trusted app that runs well and a lot to lose.
Same applies to the firmware as far as I'm concerned. I spent too much time optimizing this load to have upgrades and updates ruin it.
Updates have cost me much more needless troubleshooting time than the 2 pieces of puny malware I dealt with in the last 2.5 years.

My experience is different. All apps in the list get updated when hitting Update All, irrespective of whether 'Auto Update' is enabled or disabled for any app.
And I think that this is the expected behaviour because disabling Auto Update shouldn't disable manual update.

I have been seeing this yellow exclamation mark for a few weeks now. Sometimes it goes away, but comes back after some time.
I have no problems in getting app updates, even when the exclamation mark is there.
Does anyone know what it is and how to get rid of it?
Go to the store settings and turn off notifications about available updates. If you previously turned off stock notification for the Store, turn it back on and then go to the store settings and set what you want.

Notifications are all ON both in system settings as well as within the app.
I tried turning them OFF and then back ON, but the exclamation mark is still present.
Could it be that there is some app which has an update available, but Play Store is unable to show it?
Well, you're supposed to turn off app update notifications in the Google Store, not turn them on.

I have turned them OFF from within Google Play Store app (which also automatically turned them off in system settings). The exclamation mark is now gone (although it didn't go away immediately when I turned them off).
I'll keep an eye and let you know if it comes back.
That said, why does it happen? I don't see any such error on my other phone where everything is ON.

Because all devices are not equal and do not have exactly the same operating systems, features, settings or functions. Just because "this" device does/doesn't do a certain thing or have a certain thing, does not mean "that" device does/doesn't do it or have it.

Wonderful explanation.
Now what? Live with the problem?

You solved it didn't you? It went away didn't it? It stands to reason that since the changes that you made removed it, the things you changed would seem to have been the solution, even though it didn't go away immediately after those changes. The delay was probably a result of the notification icon staying until the next time the update check process ran in the background, it still scans for updates in the background, it just tell you you if it finds anything anymore.
It must what has already been told to you, it is part of the notification process to let you know you have available updates. Turning of all(more than one setting) update notifications should solve this, i.e. turn of update notifications in PlayStore and turn off update notifications in settings, including turning off system/system app updates and any other similar update notifications, you may have to check in different places and disable more than 1 or 2 settings.

I had this once and it means that app update is not finished ( or couldn't update) and you have to update that app again.

It went away temporarily (as before without doing anything) and has now come back again.

I think so too. There is some app that isn't updating, and Google Play Store is unable to show which app that is.
