Question Fingerprint reader questions: False-positive and training - Xiaomi Poco X3 Pro

I have a Samsung A52s 5G and the Poco X3 Pro.
The Samsung has a big fingerprint reader beneath the screen, the Xiaomi only at the side.
The side reader can only see a small part of the fingerprint, basically only a small line, whilst the Samsung can scan the whole finger.
1)
How safe is the Xiaomi Fingerprint reader, compared to Samsung? Is the chance higher the Xiaomi fingerprint reader reads fingerprints from other people not registered as your own, because only a small part is scanned?
2)
I found this thread on Samsung:
https://www.reddit.com/r/samsung/comments/lm1qt3
By repeated testing one can apparently "train" the fingerprint reader and get better and faster unlock. Is it the same on Xiaomi as well? Can the Xiaomi Reader be trained?

thoughtful hehehe but unlikely, this should produce visible results over time if it was real but sadly, that's not the case. Also, if it was a feature Xiaomi would not fail to "advertise" it in it's customizations.

Fingerprint is same??

Is there any actual upgrade on the in display fingerprint sensor?
Should be Gen 2, so definitely faster and more accurate than the 6T :good:

Should be faster being Gen 2.
Should be disappointing due to still being an optical scanner.

6T has been pretty good for me so if it's even a small improvement on that I'll be happy

Unfortunately ultrasonic fingerprint scanner are much more expensive than optical even Huawei and P30 Pro got with optical and not ultrasonic.
I've heard that in Galaxy S10/10 Plus it's the second most expensive component after the OLED panel.
So in order to not increase much more the price of 7 oneplus deside use optical again but would be better implementation than 6T both accuracy and speed unlocking.
I would expect to be on par with P30 Pro and Oppo Reno performance.
On the other hand since BBK group having invest more than a year on optical technology evolving each generation every few months (We are now on 6th generation like on Oppo Reno has) I really doubt will ever use ultrasonic sensor near time soon unless become much more affordable to oneplus(oneplus 8 maybe)
But don't forget Vivo and Oppo are working on next generation that will work all across the screen without needed light up sensor)
That would be the ultimate solution not needed specific and very small erea like today both ultrasonic and optical using.

As per the rumor Oneplus 7 will sticks with the optical sensor like an Oneplus 6t. Ultrasonic is quite expensive, Maybe in the next series of Oneplus they can use USFPS.
This time the response time for the fingerprint will be faster than the One Plus 6t.

So, In upcoming years we can expect an Ultrasonic sensor on the Oneplus or an Optical which is very faster compare to this 2ndGen.
The FP sensor has 3 lenses and 3x optical zoom.

Fingerprint sensor

Hi folks. is true that the fingerprint sensor is not so good when there is too much humidity and the fingertip is a little damp?

yup, consider your fingerprint sensor non-existent when "there is too much humidity/fingertips => damp.
This is true for optical readers as well (OnePlus 6T, 7, 7 Pro, 7T, 7T Pro). Just a bit damp finger => No unlock.
You can use...
- ultrasonic fingerprint readers such as on S10, S10+, Note 10/Note 10+ (as far as I know they work better with damp/wet fingers)
- face unlock
- voice unlock / pin / whatever your phone supports

Fingerprint responsiveness, lock screen wallpaper

I waited a moment before posting this thread, but now I am really annoyed with this problem.
In the lock screen, often it takes a few times to unlock device with my fingerprint. Let me say that I have already 2 phones with fingerprint unlock : a OnePlus 5t and a Xiaomi Mi Max 3.
On both of them, no problem with any of the 5 fingers registered.
On the Poco and its "cool" on screen fingerprint, it's a pain to get unlocked quickly. Most of the time, I need to smash my finger over one second or two to unlock. If it get unlocked!
Miui 12 didn't improve nothing: same problem.
It's a fault of a bad software? The decision to use software instead of the old hardware fingerprint sensor seems to be not so good. It is my first phone which use the screen sensor to unlock, maybe other phones make it better.
Another problem: why I can't set up a wallpaper on the lock screen other than those offered by Miui - Xiaomi? It's impossible to set up one of my own photos - wallpapers on the lock screen.

You can set any photo, go the gallery, select a photo, click on three dots, select the wallpaper option and set it.
I hope this helps.
Yeah, using stock Gallery it works, thanks!
But, if I use instead Simple Gallery (my favourite), it does not work.
With Nova lchr, it doesn't work indeed. I'm talking only about lock screen wallpaper.
On the fingerprint front, it seems that the new update 12.0.3 doesn't change the things too much for me. Almost same unresponsiveness for me.
Honestly I don't face any real difference compared to my gf's Galaxy S9 with rear fingerprint scanner.
Did you try to delete them and let the phone learn them again?

Yes, I've registered again the fingerprints.
I don't think about a hardware failure, as I suppose the hardware is the screen itself, and it seems to work well.
Mostly it is the response delay. The OnePlus is almost instantaneous, far far away from the Poco.
I can definitely say fingerprint sensor on k30 pro/poco f2 pro sucks.
until the latest stable, 12.0.8.0, there is no noticeable improvement.
I am using a glass screen protector as we all should do.
I have the same problem with my fingerprint to unlock the device. I even have a big problem adding the fingerprint to the device.
are you using some kind of thick glass protector?
Most of them on the market are 0.33mm thick, and fingerprint sensors are only rated for 0.15mm, so if you put one of those will work, but not flawless and slow
Yes, I use a screen protector, I understand that this can lead to delays.
I have now deleted my current fingerprint again and created it again. This time I put a lot of pressure on the display and lo and behold, unlocking is now possible without delay.

In the beginning, my F2 came with original sc protector, I had registered the first fingerprints with it.
Then, I registered new ones without it. That's when I decided to write here some days after.
I don't know if it sucks or not this device detection, because it is my first one with on screen hype.
But I'm sure that it is far slower than my "old" OnePlus and my middle - low specs (on processor) Mi Max 3.
And I have same problem than someone adding the fingerprints, same need for big pressure to register the right way.
Curious, i just received my F2 Pro a few hours ago, and the fingerprint scanner works really fine, takes about half a second to unlock, just very slightly slower than my OnePlus 7 Pro (but by 0.2 sec i would say)

my fingerprint sensor is not working for some reason. Did factory reset, format data from recovery, flashed back to stock rom and re-lock (from stock global poco F2 ver. to latest xiaomi.eu stable back to stock) still not working. kindly see the attached file

Where do you get this test?
I must add, to my others posts, that I had activated the "Show Taps" option in the Developer settings. Once I deactivated it again, things were working better with the fingerprint recognition, both on registration and unlocking.

just tap the kernel version to enter CIT menu.
My K30 Pro Zoom with Poco rom works fine for me with screen protector on. It sometimes misread but that's not very common. Yes it seems a bit slower than the back fingerprint but I don't really mind that much as it's not that much of a difference.

Solved: Fingerprint Sensor Improvement

Had been pretty disappointed with the N20U fingerprint sensor over the Note 9 until trying this hack found last night on Sakitech's YouTube channel while searching for a solution. It originally pertained to the S20 / Note 10 but continues to make a huge improvement on my N20U. Link is below in case you're not aware of this.
My only disappointment with N20U is the fingerprint sensor. I tend to prefer physical fingerprint sensor especially on the side or back (and I still do). This actually improves the fingerprint sensor a lot. Thanks!

Why is Face ID not coming to Android phones?

Apple introduced Face ID in 2017. It is more than 5 years now and we still don't have it on Android.
WHY?
Samsung and Google have very deep pockets too, and their flagships cost just as much as iPhones. Why hasn't this super secure feature made it to Android phones yet?
Everytime I unlock my iPhone 13 Mini in a pitch dark environment, I get amazed. It works every single time.
Here are some possibilities:
1. The technology is patented and no good enough alternative has been developed yet.
2. The ugly notch will kill the full screen experience, and more so when Android OEMs are investing on under-display tech, to the point of having no notch, no punch-hole, no camera obstruction, no nothing. Pure 100% screen!
3. Ultrasonic fingerprint scanners (seen on Samsung Galaxy flagships) are very secure (much more than optical fingerprint sensors seen on most phones) and allows for full screen unhindered experience.
What would you like to have?
100% screen with in-display fingerprint scanner and camera or super secure Face ID with a notch?
Um...Face Unlock has been on the Pixel 6 and 7 for quite some time now. It's actually less secure than patterns and fingerprints.

I'm referring to the more secure Face ID that uses iris and other biometric data to accurately identify the real person. Face Unlock is different and far less secure.
The maligned pixel 4 and the pixel 4XL got it right. fast secure and usable anywhere. Google literally has the tech. They just haven't used it again.

Why do you think they haven't reintroduced it? This would have made Pixel stand out among Android phones.
I would like to think Google's tech wasn't as secure and reliable like Face ID of Apple.
