Sprint OnePlus 7 Pro 5G Possibilities? - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

So I just paid off my Sprint OnePlus 7 Pro 5G. I got off the phone with them today and it should be SIM unlocked by this time tomorrow.
I have a few questions for anyone who might know the answers.
1. Will this enable the grayed out "OEM Unlocking" In developer options so I can get an unlock bin from OnePlus? If not is it currently possible to enable the grayed out "OEM Unlocking" option in developer options? (For example on my OnePlus Nord N200 a simple adb fastboot command removing an app enabled it and gave me the ability to toggle the option.
2. Looking around it looks like there isn't much support for the Sprint version of this phone. Are there custom ROMs that work universally that are fairly established in the community that will work on all carriers?
3. Is it possible to get a custom ROM or Root on the Sprint OnePlus 7 Pro 5G with out an unlocked bootloader?
4. Is it possible to flash from a Sprint version to a T Mobile version?
Main reason here is come this time next year Sprints old network will be fully shut down and I want to be able to use this Sprint branded phone on other networks and feel like I'll need an unlocked bootloader, root, or a custom rom to do so.

1. It's possible to unlock the bootloader using a patched MSM tool or converting to the EU 5G firmware and doing it the old fashioned traditional method.
2. There is no support at all. Custom ROMs can and will install but most will either bootloop or face modem, location and rotation issues. I've tried porting tons of roms at this point and nothing has worked. GSIs though do work but they come with their set of issues.
3. You can root the stock OOS 10 firmware, but fully functional custom ROMs are out of the question. BUT rooting with a LOCKED bootloader is IMPOSSIBLE.
4. No. Due to a different partition scheme and modem, you cannot convert to the international or T-Mobile firmware.
I've made a little write up linked here (
https://www.reddit.com/r/OnePlus7Pro/comments/pnpvjx
). If you would like to know as much as possible about this device.

Thanks for all the info this really helps.
So is it not possible then to even use this device on T-Mobiles network?
Assuming its unlocked(By Sprint or so they say it is now) the hardware should be able to connect to T Mobiles 4G network and maybe the 5G?

You might be able to use it on T-Mobile's LTE/4G network but not 5G. I can't confirm as I live in Canada though.

hey!
can confirm, this version sucks, I have this phone and I just totally bricked it lol
I'm able to access fastboot but I'm not able to find any images I can use to get the default OS back. I just want to restore it to factory settings, but alas :\

Will the VZW G5 be rooted and/or BL unlocked?

I sure hope so. I can't have a phone without root. Unfortunately I'm stuck with verizon....
Sent from Tapatalk
I assume it will be exactly the same as G4 in terms of root/BL.
How can we know now though? Too early to know.

The discussion is about an unlocked bootloader, not an unlocked carrier situation.
If an unlocked boot loader version existed, it would be called a developer version and it wouldn't be likely to be picked up in large enough numbers to see much real public development.
Basically, it will most likely be MONTHS before you see a leak or hack to unlock the boot loader if EVER. It will be a long time before you even see root if the G4 and V10 (just got root very recently) are anything to go by.
Since mobile device payments have become all the rage, carriers and device manufactures are extra motivated to lock down their devices. The Galaxy S7 and S7 edge (same processor as the G5) are so locked down (even on T-mobile) using Qualcomms secure boot methods that it does a check to verify the main partition before it loads the contents to memory meaning a root can only be done temporarily (live rooted) if an exploit is ever found and will have to be rerooted every reboot. Android developers are going to have to struggle with qualcomm devices especially to develop into the the future.

If the G5 is carrier unlocked, then wouldn't we simply be able to purchase a T-Mobile variant, get it unlocked, and then use it with a Verizon Sim?

As long as you don't mind paying full price or carrying a second contract and T-Mobile agrees to unlock it. Hopefully development would still be decent with just the t-mobile variant.

Unfortunately Verizon is very strict on what devices can be activated with one of their SIMs. Most likely they would block a Tmobile or international variant on their network. This is the case with the G4 already.
We got root on the V10, not an unlocked bootloader though (yet). Here's to hoping we can get at least root on the G5 in the same manner...need those magic TOT files!

We will need more than the TOT file to root the G5. Starting with Android 6.0, Google made changes so that root requires a modified kernel. Changes to system.img will not be enough. Since this involves tampering with the boot.img, the locked bootloader will prevent the phone from booting at all.
Here's hoping we don't have a repeat of the G4 or V10 when it comes to locked bootloaders.
Should I not update my device to keep it as developer friendly as possible (I am preordering it)

This is bull crap why does tmo get a unlocked bl and not everyone else?
Why are people so afraid of it? Just let us enter our serial and we download a program. We void our warranty but how bout you let us take thst risk!?

Unlocked Z4 Bootloader vs Verizon Z4

So on motorola.com they offer the Moto Z4 Unlocked and the Moto Z4 Verizon. Is it possible to unlock the bootloader on the unlocked version? I know Verizon locks down all phones. and is it possible to use the carrier unlocked version on Verizon? I know some of the old phones didn't have the correct band to work with Verizon's network but things change and Verizon is now offering bring your own device now.
I'm still rocking the Z force with the shatterproof screen is there any news if Motorola going to bring it back on any new phone?

You can indeed unlock the BL on the unlocked model, and I do believe it is compatible with VZW, however, the Unlocked model won't work with the Verizon 5G Moto mod, even if its on Verizons network. I believe only the VZW model will work with the 5g mod...

I have ordered the phone from Motorola, looking very much forward to using this phone with a custom Rom like LineageOS so I am hoping the Rom support will soon pick up. Here is a good walkthrough I found for unlocking the bootloader.

No its the other way around its easier to root the phone after you unlock the bootloader. To root your Android phone (i.e. gain administrative access), you'll need to unlock your bootloader first.

That doesn't really do anything especially on the verizon model. On the unlocked carrier version you need to switch that on then unlock the bootloader with a code that motorola gives you.

That is true with a lot of phones but that's a temporary root or a hacked root. Verizon doesn't like their phones to be rooted or bootloader unlocked so they send "security" updates to patch root access to phones that developers found hacks to gain root access to. But if the bootloader is unlocked they can't patch that so you can remove root update your phone then root it again very easily.

actually called VZW about this a couple weeks back, tier 1 guy went "uhh, hold a sec, I'll get you to tier 2" tier 2 "good question, i need to ask network and provisioning" the eventual answer was yes they will work.
The only problem i can see, is from what i understand, moto mods are hit and miss with custom roms, so stock will be fine, custom depends.

That's a negative here on my end. Verizon z4 and everything was good until I entered the code from fastboot into the field on the moto website; says "your device cannot be unlocked". love verizon.
I have a brand new Z4 XT1980-3 that I just unlocked (bootloader unlock). The only problem with this model is that WiFi calling and Video calling are not possible on Verizon. Apparently they don't support those features on the XT1980-3. Those features are only available on the Verizon version (XT1980-4). So now that I'm bootloader unlocked, can I just flash the XT1980-4 firmware on the phone? Is that even possible? And will it enable the advanced calling features? I already downloaded the May 2019 firmware from here: https://www.getdroidtips.com/motoro...e-and-firmware-collections-back-to-stock-rom/
Just want to make sure it's safe to flash, and if it will in fact enable WiFi and video calling on the Verizon network. Thanks!

Sprint Oneplus 8 5G Bootloader unlock?

Has anyone been able to get any information? I checked the Oneplus site and the tmobile phone has an unlock .bin page but no mention of sprint. Now, I know Sprint has merged with Tmobile so im not sure if this changes things..
Any thoughts/information?
I'm not 100% sure on this as I haven't confirmed it however, I did get the OnePlus 8 5g at their discounted deal due to the merger and can say without a doubt that it is a T-Mobile phone with T-Mobile branding on the box and in the phone the only thing that it is currently using is a Sprint SIM card. Therefore I would assume one of the many methods that are listed over on the T-Mobile side should work I will check into it tonight and get back to you with my findings. I can also say that all of my roaming issues that I was having at my house with my OnePlus 7 pro 5G have been corrected and resolved with just this phone alone. No need for an airrave or any other device to get internet at home. I'm not sure if you live in a 5-g city or not however they have not officially activated it where I live it just recently came on line a day or two ago and that is through T-Mobile's Network only and I'm actually able to pick that up now to. (Just not at home )

They are the same phone but you need a Sprint sim if you're using Sprint for your carrier. There is an 8 Pro but it's not available through any carrier in the US. You need to buy it from OP or Amazon. I don't think it'll work on Sprint as it's not an approved device. It will work on t-mobile This will all change after August when they begin merging customers.
Edit: The OP8 is the exact same phone, IN2017, on both networks.

Yes. I am fully rooted, xXx rom and smurf kernel
You need to network unlock (sim unlock) permanent in order to make available the toggle for OEM Unlocking in settings.
Once sim unlocked, enable oem unlocking in settings and get the unlock from phone and then from OnePlus.
After unlock_code.bin is provided from OnePlus you need to flash that via fastboot. This will wipe.
Then download latest stable twrp from mauricio (thread in xda OnePlus forums)
Only BOOT twrp. Backup boot partition. Install magisk manager app once phone fully reboots.
Patch boot.img backup you made using magisk manager app.
This creates the file "patched_magisk.img"
Move that to ADB folder.
Test patched boot by <fastboot boot patched_magisk.img>
If successful, open magisk manager and press Install Directly.
You will be rooted.

this is the first post in probably 5 years i hit the Thanks button for
can you please confirm if this is supposed to be the method for all carriers, or specific to certain region models, or excluding certain carriers?
i'm emerging from a 1000 year slumber after becoming satisfied with a previous phone, and finding it ridiculously difficult to find a new haven for rooted phones lol
Once you are rooted and unlocked, I'd suggest switching to the Global rom for future proofing the device.
I just did this last night and it was fairly painless.
There's a thread on switching to global. In that thread there is a reply to my post. That reply is a very concise guide to flashing over to global and updating to A11. Regaining root is also simple. Use Magisk Canary and download the stock boot image for global. Patch that stock boot using Magisk Canary.
Reboot to fastboot and flash patched_magisk.img to boot_a AND boot_b
Reboot.
Enjoy root and Magisk.
I also recommend flashing the xXx Magisk rom. Will re-enable VoWiFi and VoLTE for global rom!

Yes. I'm on exact same thing as you.
5g works great after A11 update!
I just got an IN2017 model now and still trying to apply for a SIM unlock, do I need any services enabled for that process? Or can I disable/wipe out any crappy bloatware that my system has, and if so then what's safe to uninstall from sprint?

I"d leave it all for now. Once you unlock, i'd recommend switching to global rom anyway. It receives updates faster and modem is better than tmo. even without standalone 5g.
And when you do that, you'll eliminate most of the bloat.

Question My phone is now eligible for sim unlock from Sprint but i dont have on device settings

Info:
I used the MSM tool automatic package to get convert to global firmware. It supposedly bypasses the need for a bootloader unlock code from oneplus.
Anyways if i use the other MSM tool to convert back to stock firmware, it still downloads the global firmware.
Right now my phone is on the latest version of the global firmware updated with the Oxygen Updater app.
My settings do not have the Dim Unlock option but the rest of the network stuff (5G, VoLTE, Wifi Calling, hotspot, etc) work fine. I have a t-mobile sim card activated with a Sprint Plan.
Could sprint do a remote unlock or could i go to a tmobile store and have them unlock it? Or is there some app i can use to get to the setting?
Now that i am eligible i would like to sim unlock so i can ungrey my oem unlock button.
Thanks
Update: ive tried manually installing the APK for T-Mobile's Device Unlock app and it doesnt seem to function.

Possible to Downgrade From Android 11 to 10 on XT2113-2? If so, how?

I have a new XT2113-2 (TM) that is yet to be boot loader unlocked/rooted/etc. I don't want to do that until I am sure. I got this variant of the phone so I could unlock the bootloader, root, TWRP, etc and was afraid the "global" variant -3 might not work with USA 5G. The phone came with Android 11 installed (and has since auto-installed at least one security update). It shows the build as RZKS31.Q3-45-16-3-11 and the baseband ends with Kiev_TMO_CUST. I am using it on ATT (via Red Pocket) since TM service just sucks where I live. And I do get the 5G icon on it now.
But ideally, I want to get this to the original TM Android 10, which I think is shown here as the file XT2113-2_KIEV_TMO_10_QZKS30.Q4-40-95-6_subsidy-TMO_SPR_RSU_QCOM_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip as I hope it will undo some of the "security" crap Google has added to Android with each successive release.
So I need to be sure of the following:
1. Can I downgrade from 11 to 10?
2. Is there some reason to NOT use the firmware mentioned above? Should I use retail US (RETUS) instead? I am not sure the differences (it would be great if that would permit me to use this phone on Red Pocket Verizon but the IMEI now shows as incompatible on Verizon).
3. Must I unlock the boot loader to downgrade? I know I must to do other stuff and I have the unlock code on hand and ready to put it if needed. If I must unlock the boot loader to downgrade, will I have to re-unlock it afterwards? And, if so, will I have to go through the same process of getting a code or will the code I have now work?
4. How do I flash to do the downgrade? I have the Lenovo Rescue/Smart Assistant installed on my PC and was able to download the stock firmware (I assume it matches what is on there now) and stashed it aside. But is there some other tool needed?
5. Once I achieve downgrade, what is the best way to avoid having the thing auto-update to Android 11?
Thanks for your help with these questions.
If you are going to take this phone to AT&T, you will not get 5G if you unlock the bootloader. The NR band will be restricted. Downgrading from 11 to 10 generally doesn't work either.
I can't answer the rest of your questions.

Thanks for this response. I do have it on ATT (via Red Pocket) now and it does appear to get 5G now. I have not yet unlocked the bootloader, was thinking to do it, but considering that it would cause loss of 5G I think I will not and will just return the phone. Wow!

BTW - have you any references on this behavior? I am wondering if this is something that would affect ALL phones with unlocked boot loaders (like Pixel, OnePlus, etc). Thanks for the heads-up.
WARNING: ONLY DO THAT IF YOU ARE REALLY SURE AND DO BE CAREFULLY. I recommend you: do it not.
By downgrading to an older software, the bootloader in many cases can be destroyed, so your phone is completly bricked!
I write this from EXPERIENCE. My amazon fire is completed bricked, when i have flash a older SYSTEM. It can't turn on, no fastboot, no recovery!

I suspect, but don't know, that all phones with unlocked bootloaders are blocked from 5g from AT&T. I know my kiev (RETUS) is.

Thanks. Yet another reason to dislike ATT, I guess. Sadly, in my area TM coverage stinks. And this phone will not work on Verizon (unclear why but they reject the IMEI). And getting the Verizon variant will preclude ever rooting the thing. So I really feel trapped!

I always figured it was this
English Community-Lenovo Community
as my IMEI SV on the Metro/TMO variant is 05 rather than 07. Never tested with a locked bootloader though.

Bootloader unlocked Pixels work fine on ATT 5G, don't know about OnePlus.
