Question thinking about buying the g100, but I want to know about custom rom support for the external dock/monitor - Motorola Moto G100 / Edge S

Are there roms that support the external monitor+desktop functionality?
New to this site btw, hopefully I'm not missing any etiquette

Edge S / G100 has only 2 custom roms until now (even with almost one year old). And they don't have support for the "Ready For" desktop mode. Today you have Ready For only in stock rom (that's a really good rom, Motorola did a good work here).

You'll probably get screen mirroring out of usb 3.1 on custom ROMs but not the Ready For UI (unless that custom ROM is based on stock). Its still a lot better than chromecast due to wired connection.
You can also try the "Force Desktop Mode" in developer's to probably get somewhat desktop looking UI on secondary monitor, but haven't tried.
Btw the stock ROM isn't that bad. It looks like AOSP and can be rooted. It's not as good as LineageOS of course, but untill we have stable custom ROM it's ok to use (Lineage Modded still got some noticeable bugs). Probably like it more than MIUI, OneUI etc.

I am giving it to a friend this week and I am not going to be updating it so I want him to have a better experience than the current software. Im sure he would never update unless it prompts him to do it over wifi

I would not say that any custom ROM out there is a better experience. Each is based off CM10, there are some bugs and not all hardware works , for example you lose IR blaster. They are not faster, just different. And I actually prefer the Touchwiz launcher to the Trbuchet launcher in CM. Touchwiz (stock) has nice widgets and if you want a different launcher, you can get it off the market, Apex, Nova and Holo work great.
Leave it stock and he will get the JB update automatically.

To provide a different point of view, I would say that the "stock" firmware is terrible and the only piece of HW that you lose by going to CM10 is the IR blaster, which is a worthless thing anyways.
I am a T869 user, and am coming from the experience of someone who has had & used Logitech Harmony IR remotes for many years.
I feel that there really aren't any good IR remote applications for Android in general, and this device has no way to do any sort of IR "Learning", making it of limited usefulness.
On top of that, the experience of using a touchscreen tablet with relatively crappy IR transmission power as a "remote" is pretty bad. The screen surface is a flat piece of glass, and thus is incapable of providing you with useful tactile feedback. If you are watching a movie or a TV show or something, your eyes are on your TV, not on your remote. With a "real" remote, you can feel your way to the correct button with relative ease, and this has been the normal mode of interactivity in this context pretty much since remotes were invented. As a result, your normal user is very used to "how a remote works", and so when you can't get that tactile feedback, it feels weird and sucks. Also, since the IR blaster is weaker than my Logitech, I found I had to actually make sure I had the tablet pointed at the right device to actually have any effect.
All in all, that is not a nice experience, and made me stop caring about the IR blaster as a feature.
The "stock" Samsung firmware is, in my opinion, relatively bad. There are a large number of redundant apps included, as well just plain garbage apps. Do you really want an APK on your system that is just a link to a website? Seriously?! Do you really need / want 3 email clients? Also, with the large number of garbage apps running on the system, things are generally not as responsive as they are on something like CM10.
I should also point out that CM10 has been considering basically "done" for a while now, with the bulk of the development team having moved on to CM10.1 weeks ago.
Finally, things are perfectly do-able on a Mac, you'll just need to use Heimdall rather than Odin to flash CWM to your device. Aorth, the guy who does CWM and CM10.x builds for this tab series, actually prefers Heimdall.

Stock-Based ROMs?

I recently flashed CM12.1 and am finding it to be not to my liking. I'm pretty sure that all of my gripes are essentially issues from it not having access to the LG OEM drivers, resulting in things like being unable to override the screen dimming at low temperatures, and a clumsy camera interface
As such, I have been thinking about going back to stock - but am debating a) which version of stock to flash and b) if perhaps there are stock-based custom ROMs that would provide a better experience for me than pure-stock, while retaining OEM driver stabilities and capabilities.
Priorities for me, in order, are:
Stability
LG Device issues (driver related: brightness / overheat, camera fluidity, SD, etc.)
Bloat / speed / fluidity
Native or easily implementable: titanium backup, full gapps, assignable volume key lock screen shortcuts, root, tweaksbox, tether (USB & wifi)
Battery life
Newish Android version
What Stock-based ROMs would you guys recommend I take a look at, as such?
Please note I'm *not* asking, "which ROM is best" or dinner such nonsense; just what ROMs would be good to take a look at for those sorts of qualities?
Thanks!! ^-^
Okay, so from what I'm seeing, I'm thinking Cloudy 2.5 might be the way to go? It's stable, stock-based, well-vetted...
I'd suggest fulmics rom (current version 3.7)
It has now become kinda like cloudy's successor, since cloudy's developer doesnt update it anymore

Closest MM/N ROM to AOSP for G930F?

Until recently I've used a Sony, but a couple of bad experiences (+ 2 bad replacements) and need for wireless charging due to work + other HW features this time round, means I've switched to a Samsung S7 (G930F). Yeah, I know, Exynos development, but I needed the hardware spec and it came up cheap. Anyhow, it's rooted, unlocked and running TWRP, and I'm trying out a couple of roms..
I usually run without GApps (no flames or "Why use android if not using GApps", please!), and I'm happy to run 6.x + Xposed, or 7.x without Xposed. But as I've only ever used AOSP variants/CM, I'm a bit unsure about choosing a rom based on modding the official Samsung firmware, so I thought I'd ask here to find about the differences "under the hood".
The most stable roms for the G930F seem to be stripped-down derivatives of Samsung official releases - but how close can I get to a stable AOSP experience? I'm not only thinking about the user interface, also about "under the hood" - some custom roms might just strip out Touchwiz and apps, others might strip out a lot more and try to clean up or get closer to a AOSP/CM style "clean" rom underneath. That's more what I'm after, a good quality stable clean rom that's trying to get close to AOSP/CM as much as Samsung makes possible and without GApps already built-in.
But at that point I'm basically lacking knowledge, so... How close do roms based on Samsung's firmware actually get to AOSP? What sort of things get left in that detract from "pure" android? Which roms are closer to AOSP under the hood, or strip out "more" of the Samsung/Gapps code?
Kryx Rom or Extreme Debloated + Nexus Conversion Pack or Google pixel rom
Use LineageOS if you are willing to deal with a few minor bugs.
I'm trying out Lineage right now - it's mostly fine, the main practical issue is an over-aggressive noise gate on phone calls, it cuts off words and makes speech hard to understand at the other end. Other issues I'm seeing are lack of power menu volume panel and crash bugs in the internal web view used by some apps. Not bad for pre-release.
One main question/concern with using a trimmed-down Samsung rom is, I haven't got any idea what Samsung do to AOSP Android/kernel, nor how much of it is undone. Gods know how often manufacturer mods have led to problems and weaknesses in an otherwise good product, and so it's not a theoretical question, manufacturer versions often seem to leave the entire firmware in quite an unknown state. I know there can't be any absolute answers, but any light-shedding would be really useful.

Kryx 1.2 is coming up with zip sig failure when I try to flash it. No sign that it shouldn't be signed, or is expected to come up with this error though, otherwise I'd try it anyway.

Best custom ROM for 8t

Hi , i stopped changing Rom when I bought the 8t coming from 6t , but now I am bored and I'd like to try a new rom , which is the best custom ROM for 8t ?
Most important things for me :
Stable and fast ( fingerprint also fast)
Good camera (like stock one )
Good battery
Thanks if someone wants to share their experience on multiple custom roms I'd be glad
Of course rom choice is a individual preference but mine is AICP. Good stable, smooth with a few customizations. Can be used with a couple of the custom kernels out there. Not strictly Pixel based. Updated weekly for all devices supported.

had the same thoughts this friday and spend the weekend trying ROMs and twrp
long story short - stock is better for this phone
I was using custom ROMs for years on different phones (starting OnePlus One and Cyanogen mod by Sultanxda), so I know exactly how a good custom ROM feels and works
for this particular model I'm kind of disappointed and "forced" to go back to stock
off course, you can say that you don't use autobrightness or you are ok with how the fingerprint works (or don't use other stuff I've noticed), but for me stock is much better in a daily driver perspective
if you are really bored and have enough free time, it's better to try yourself and make your own opinion about it
only problem is that the stock rom is less trustworthy than even having google up your phones you-know-what

Custom ROM

Hi,
I currently main an S10e besides my "project phone" Mi Note 10. On that phone I just installed az AOSP-based custom ROM (Android 13), which I really do like. So, I am thinking on flashing the S10e (Exynos) with a custom ROM too (PixelExperience 13).
My question is that is there anyone who flashed custom ROM instead of the OneUI 4.1 on the S10e? Is it better performance, battery and features-wise (under features I mean e.g. Cameras being most important.)? Can it be used as a daily as well as OneUI?
Thanks for the answers.
P.s. sorry for my bad English.

Performance will definitely be better. I ran Lineage OS on my A52 4G for a little while, and it was much faster than OneUI 5. Also, many custom ROMs don't come with nosy Google apps pre-installed, which is a plus (although you can install them yourself if you want them). Some things to remember are that the camera support will not be as good as stock (so do your research on how good support is for your device), and that phone calls will not work with custom ROMs on any Samsung device. Let me know if you have any questions/concerns.

VoIP doesn't work. Normal calls do just fine.
@somatoth You might want to have a look at
OneUI 5.1 for Exynos Galaxy S10 series.

Yes, sorry. I should have clarified, I meant that VoIP doesn't work, but depending on where you are, it could mean you won't be able to call at all, because many service providers have recently stopped their service with devices that don't have VoIP capability. So here in the U.S. I essentially can't call at all, because no major carriers here work without VoIP. But it all depends on where you are and what carrier you use.
EDIT: Read this thread page for more info on this (many posts talk about VoIP and calling support).

Lineage OS has probably the best camera support of any custom ROM at the moment, as they just recently released version 20, which featured a brand-new default camera app, Aperature. I have used Aperature before, and compared to alternatives such as Open Camera, It is much better. For example, the camera apps that most custom ROMs ship with, including Lineage OS 19, don't even support all of the cameras, only the main shooter. Also, the overall quality of the photos are better with Aperature. That being said, the camera quality will still not be as good as stock. Currently, if you want to run Lineage OS on your device, there is the official Lineage OS 19 version (based on A12): Lineage OS page, XDA thread; and the unofficial Lineage OS 20 version (based on A13): XDA thread. Let me know if you have any questions, I'll gladly answer them.
Thanks! Do you know by any chance, is there a good Gcam port for Exynos devices? On my Xiaomi phone which I flashed with OctaviOS, there are lots of available but that is a Snapdragon model... And the only thing (besides that I am new to flashing on Samsung) is the camera (which is absolutely fine) and battery performance (which already sucks a bit on the S10e) that keeps me on OneUI.

For the Gcam port look here. Yes, battery performance will definitely be better with a custom ROM. Let me know if you have questions about flashing it, as I have an A52 4G that I flashed Lineage OS to and then re-flashed OneUI to (because of VoIP, otherwise I would stay on Lineage OS 100%).
Thanks. It's sad that this camera isn't as good as the stock one, so I might stay at OneUI as you have flashed back.

You can see a comparison between the stock camera app and Gcam on your device here. The results from Aperature, if you install Lineage OS 20, will be the same or better. Like I said, the only reason I switched back was because where I am, I need VoIP. Otherwise, Lineage OS was much better than the stock OneUI, and I can't wait to go back to Lineage OS again after I get a different phone for calls.
