Wait, I'm having this issue. After installing a Magisk module, my phone boot looped and I had to flash the firmware, and now the baseband and IMEI are gone and it randomly boot loops. I'm trying this guide now, but let me know if there's another solution.
Update: This guide fixed the issue. Now my phone works perfectly now
When im trying this, it says "FAIL!" and the log says "FAIL! (Auth) Complete(Write) operation failed. All threads completed. (succeed: 0 / failed: 1)" the phone says "SW REV CHECK FAIL : [vbmeta] Fused 2 > Binary 1 RP check error : vbmeta" what does this mean? im new to this

A/B GSI’s were working on my A125F, however, NanoDroid doesn’t work due to this
Any NanoDroid install guides tailored for Samsung devices?
And i flashed former Magisk patched boot before flashing @AndyYan ’s Lineage GSI, didn’t booted anymore, now i roll back to stock boot then flash that Lineage GSI, still doesn’t boots
What to do then?
Everything was flashed by @edward0181 ’s TWRP build
I did this using patched Odin(from XDA) and it worked perfectly, switched my software from A125U to A125U1.

I wrote this guide as information for us linux users is quite thin on the ground when it comes to rooting the Samsung GT-I9003! The whole process is very simple, no need for Odin, no need to find a heimdall package.
It may be quite a few steps but, it is very simple! For more background reading I will provide a brief appendix at the end of this post; if you want to know more than provided, there is a multitude of information available on this forum.
Important note
Do not unplug your phone at any point until guided
Don't deviate from this guide unless you have a problem, even then ask first
Do not click Repartition!!!
Pre-requisites
Before you root or even put your phone in download mode, go and download the following. Credit is due where neccessary, so I won't attach the files in this thread, rather point you to other peoples hard work.
KUDOS to you all
Heimdall and frontend - Heimdall home page
Download the ROM you want - Epic thread here. I went for I9003XXKPQ (2.3.6)
Root and CWM5 Amit Bagaria's awesome thread
Only 3 things needed, cool huh On with the show.
1) Put your phone in to download mode. Do this by turning it off, hold <volume down> and <home> then power on whilst still holding the mentioned keys
2) You should have a little android telling you not to turn off the target. Connect your phone to the computer
3) From within the Heimdall frontend, go to the utilities tab
4) Look at this screenshot
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
5) Click Detect (1) to check connection between your computer and phone.
6) If your computer has a connection, click Save As... (2) and choose a location to save your PIT file.
7) The Download (3) button should have become active. Click it and wait until the operation is finished
8) Extract the contents of the ROM. The scenario below will use the XXKPQ ROM downloaded from the epic thread
The ROM will start off as a .zip file, extract this
The result will be another compressed file named something like 'I9003XXKPQ_I9003XXKPQ_I9003SERKPQ_HOME.tar.md5'
Extract the contents of this file to produce the files you need to flash from Heimdall, see the screenshot below
9) Within the Heimdall frontend, navigate to the flash tab.
10) Look at this screenshot
[/IMG]
11) Click Browse (1) and select the PIT file you download from your phone in step 7
12) The Add (2) button should become active. Click add
13) The drop down field labelled Partition Name (3) should become active. Select one of the file types you extracted in step 8. Don't worry that there will be more than you have
14) Click the Browse (4) button and select the file name that matches the type you chose.
15) Repeat steps 12-14 for all the files you extracted from the ROM
16) Take a breath, this is the nerve racking part
17) Click Start (5)
18) Both the PC and phone will become active, watch and wait until it says operation complete
19) After the operation is complete, your phone will reboot. It will take a lot longer than normal so go make a cup of tea
20) When the phone is up and running, do your base set up and power off.
21) Go back in to download mode as explained in steps 1 and 2.
22) Extract the contents of Amit Bagaria's Kernel
22) Type the following
Code:
heimdall flash --normal-boot [I]/home/rooted/[/I]normalboot.img
/home/rooted/ directory to where you extracted the kernel
23) Let the operation finish
24) Jump for joy
I hope you found this guide quite easy to read and more to the point, now have a rooted and up to date phone. There are many more enhancements to make but, I'll let you find those answers. This post is my first post and supposed to be a simple guide after all, no need to confuse people.
If you have any problems, please do ask and I will try to answer any queries or point you in the right direction to the best of my abilities.
Peace
Appendix
PIT - Partition Index Table. Simply a map of your disk
ROM - Read Only Memory. A program you can't change by default
CWM5 - Clock Work Mod. A recovery mode that allows you to do some nifty things with your phone later
Kernel - The heart of your operating system
Thanks a ton man. Not many Linux users around so sometimes becomes tough to find help.
Anyway, we have to extract the rom, and flash all the items extracted tk flash a rom? Like system.rfs, etc?
I have updated the main post to include these directions
In terms of extracting the ROM, I meant the ROM a person would download from the epic thread such as "I9003XXKPQ" indeed. Using that ROM as an example, you download a zip which extracts to:
Code:
I9003XXKPQ_I9003XXKPQ_I9003SERKPQ_HOME.tar.md5
That file again needs to be extract, it is at this point you end up with the individual files:
boot.bin
cache.rfs
modem.bin
normalboot.img
param.lfs
Sbl.bin
system.rfs
I will try to edit the thread and explain this step further. I hope this helps, peace

Boot image from Amit is causing reboot again and again
Hello,
The procedure description is awsome and I had very minimal issues. Unfortunately, when i tried with the normalboot.img from Amit, my samsung Galaxy I9003 just hung while booting. After a while it just booted and booted again and I just reverted back with the first two procedures.
Can you tell me how I can get the Amit's image on my phone.
Thanks,
Preethi
I can't get ROOT
Firstly, I wanted to thank you for the help from this tutorial. I followed all the steps mentioned and everything went fine.
But I'm not able to get ROOT. Applications like SuperSU say ROOT not detected. Could you help me out with this?

May I ask what version of Android you are trying to install? The CF-Root I linked to in the tutorial is for ROMs based on Gingerbread only. If you let me know what version you are trying to install, I'll help you out.

Hi there and sorry to any of the questions I didn't answer; I've moved a few phones on from this since then and haven't checked in on this thread; however...
Heimdall and Odin effect do exactly the same thing. The difference is that Odin is the official Samsung service centre app and Heimdall is the reverse engineering efforts of one man.
To try and answer your question, all you will need to go back to stock using Heimdall is one of the firmware files from the thread that can be found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12310841#post12310841 and a PIT file. Read further up this thread for information on PIT files if needs be.
Download the aforementioned files
Extract them to a directory of your choice
Enter download mode
Flash the files either through the Heimdall GUI (as described above or use the command line)
Wait for the files to transfer, Android to reboot and boot up
You should now be on stock
If you chose the command line route:, from your working directory, use a command similar to the following:
Code:
heimdall flash --primary-boot boot.bin --cache cache.rfs --dbdata dbdata.rfs --factoryfs factoryfs.rfs --pit gt-p1000_mr.pit --modem modem.bin --param param.lfs --secondary-boot Sbl.bin --kernel zImage
Change the parameters above dependant on what files are available; the only real mandatory part of the command is shown below but, this will do nothing
Code:
heimdall flash

So I will try in few minutes Wait for fedback

@hanspampel , you were right. I can confirm that works on g973
Thanks for both!!!
Hello!
Is there any way to change the CSC without resetting the phone? I used SamKEY on Android 10, but after my S10 got updated to Android 11 - it no longer works...
No. CSC changing contains a factory reset.

As @hanspampel said no possible
Chimera tool can change your CSC without data loss. Not free though
You can also update firmware by USB flashing without losing data. After flashing, Device will reboot into Recovery, just click Reboot, do not wipe/factory reset.
If you can remove the "userdata.img" from the AP file with 7zip it will also work with ODIN flashing.

How to do this actually? When I try to delete the file in 7zip it clearly warns 'not implemented':
In addition it warns that there is some data after payload data (which means 7zip actually might not support the architve type):

Ignore the hidden.img file, dont tamper with it. Just use the instructions to remove USERDATA.IMG and repack the firmware file with 7zip following those steps.
Hi,
thanks for a guide. Unfortunately this does not work for me (tried using both 7zip 19, and older/stable 16.04). Each time after repacking I get in Odin (3.14.4):
I beleve this is actually because of the payload data that's present in the original tar and mising after repacking.
Even for a testing purpose I just tried to extract and repack tar (without any changes) the error is there, sizes are different => thus payload is gone (might be it's just a md5 checksum after the end of archive):

You could try to remove .MD5 from the file name and name it as XXXX.tar
Renaming the file to TAR extension will bypass the checksum analysis by Odin and it should flash normally.
Warning: If the file is still corrupt somehow you could softbrick your phone and will have to flash the full firmware file you downloaded to restore your device. Which will inevitably delete your data

CSC change is easily done with paid tools like CHIMERA and Z3X
i bought a s10e about 4 weeks ago. on this device: SAOMC_SM-G970F_CKH_HTS_RR_007 HTS/HTS,HTS/HTS.
no idea how this came to germany. the goal: conversion to DBT, Magisk, TWRP and LOS.
first step: download Samfw.com_SM-G970F_DBT_G970FXXSEFUL1_fac.zip, the last Firmware DBT Android 11.
Samfw is one of more Server, use your own preferred.
the next firmware is with Android 12 (not need why LOS A 12 is beta avalaible).
next step: Odin flash AB, BL, CP, CSC from this FW(FUL1).
now Phone have DBT/DBT/,DBT/HTS.
this is STATE from Jan. 2022
it is important to have the FW on the PC.
for everything that is flashed afterwards and ends in error you can get
the phone running again with Odin flash firmware.
even a green-screen (don't be irritated - this is also the download-mode) is not possible.
it took me 3..5 times to start all over again in next step.
next step is Magisk, TWRP and LOS. this is here OT and following as new HoTo

Tried the first method, but it only let's me select from few specific cscs(about half of them I couldn't find on the internet, and those that I did find are from south American countries - which isn't helpful to me I want my servive provider csc or at least some European country). I tried the first method but it doest not give me the csc of my service provider (or at least my country or any other European country) - it only gives me the option to switch to unknown cscs or those of south American countries which isnt helpful to me. I successfully rooted my SM-A127F U3 with this manual. There are two problems.
USB tethering to Debian 10 and Ubuntu 20.04 is broken after rooting.
Second problem is that I can't update my service provider.
First time rooting I replaced only the AP. Later I tried replacing everything. Once with CSC and once with HOME_CSC nothing works. When I patch with the original AP there is no CID manager problem. Tethering I didn't try

DEPRECATED GUIDE
INSTEAD USE Could-Chaplain's TWRP 12.1 v2.00.1-alpha+
This is a solution for those, like me, who let their phone upgrade to Android 12 and can't downgrade to A11.
It's base on Could-Chaplain's TWRP for A11 firmware (great thanks to you sir). I'm not a developer, it's just a makeshift job.
Base on :
TWRP v1.02.2-alpha
Firmware ("Build version") : A226BXXU5BVH2 (works even if you have another firmware version in your phone as long as it's an A12)
Of course, all of this is at your own risk. I am not responsible for lost warranty, lost data or any other damage to your device, neither for blowing the bridge on the river Kwaï.
How to root and flash TWRP :
Prerequisites :
Unlock Bootloader
Odin on PC
1. Reboot device to Download Mode (longpres vol+ / vol- and plug USB cable)
2. Download the magisk_a226b_boot.tar and the twrp12_a226b_recovery.tar from attachments
3. Start Odin on PC
4. In Odin press on Options and untick Auto Reboot
5. Flash magisk_a226b_boot.tar with Odin (In Odin click on AP, select the magisk_boot.tar and press start)
(It roots you phone, if you don't want go directly to step 7 with blank vbmeta.img (in magisk_a226b_boot.tar) in USERDATA slot (don't forget to TAR vbmeta.img).)
6. After flash magisk_a226b_boot.tar without errors press in Odin on Reboot download if possible, device reboots to Download Mode
7. Flash twrp12.1_a226b_recovery.tar with Odin (In Odin click on AP, select the twrp12.1_a226b_recovery.tar and press start)
8. If all is flashed without errors longpress power and vol- on device
9. (The most complicated part, if it doesn't work restart from step 1. For me it seems to be easier if Auto Reboot is tick in Odin Options before step 7, in this case no step 8, be quick.)
Instantly after device goes Blackscreen press and hold power and vol+ for 5-8 seconds to boot to TWRP
10. In TWRP press on Advanced, than on Terminal, write "multidisabler" and press on the blue button
11. Repeat step 10
12. Go back in TWRP main menu, press on Wipe then on Format data, type "yes" and press on the blue button.
12. Go back in TWRP main menu, press on Reboot, then on Recovery
How to flash GSI :
Prerequisites :
TWRP on your phone
adb/fastboot on your PC
1. Boot to TWRP
2. In TWRP press Wipe, Advanced Wipe, select Dalvik, data, cache and swipe to wipe
2. After wipe go back to main screen and press Reboot, then press Fastboot
3. Device reboots to TWRP with Fastboot Interface
4. Now plugin device to PC and open a terminal
5. Type : fastboot devices
6. If device is found type : fastboot flash system PATH/TO/YOUR/GSI.img
Ignore "Invalid sparse file format at header magic" message
7. After flash completed without errors type : fastboot reboot
Tested GSI (list) : crDroid 8.10 (A12) and LineageOS 20 TD-based (A13) both vanilla with MinMicroG release, work fine (but no 5G and no VoLTE/VoWifi).
After GSI installation, if you haven't internet on apps, refer to this post for explanation/workaround of a MediaTek-specific kernel bug.

It depends. A226BXXU5BVH3 is MODEM/CP version. If your PDA/AP version is A226BXXU5BVH2, it's good. Otherwise I'm not sure it will work, I didn't try so I don't know. You can try and if it doesn't work see the Credits part of the post to create TWRP for your AP version.

A226BXXU5BVH3 is a "Basebande version", it isn't the good information to watch.
A226BXXU5BVH2 is a "Build number", you need this information.
You can also watch "Android security update". A226BXXU5BVH2 "Build number" corresponding to 1 July 2022 "Android security version".
Go to Parameter/About device/Software informations
As you can see on a colleague's phone screenshot he has A226BXXU5BVH3 "Basebande version" and A226BXXS5BVI6 "Build version" (corresponding to 1 September 2022 "Android security update").
If you have A226BXXU5BVH2 as "Build number", it's good.
If you have A226BXXS5BVI6 or A226BXXS5BVJ2 (depends of your country/operator) as "Build number", I'm pretty sure the process works, cause it's Android 12 too, but I didn't try.
In this case, if you don't want to risk, you can downgrade to A226BXXU5BVH2 "Build number" with Odin (explanation here).

As long as it's an ab and arm64 version, it will be fine. Googled or vanilla, read only or read-write system, with or without superuser, ...as you want.
If you choose one of these CherishOS A12 or A13, all releases seem to be possible.

Correct.
With A226BXXU5BVH2 version, it's sure the process works.
But with A226BXXS5BVI6 version, I'm 90% sure it works (cause I didn't try). If you want to try and reply the result after, it's wonderful (if it don't work, you just have to flash A226BXXU5BVH2 with odin, so it's not very risky but very kind for all).

But with A226BXXS5BVI6 version, I'm 90% sure it works (cause I didn't try). If you want to try and reply the result after, it's wonderful (if it don't work, you just have to flash A226BXXU5BVH2 with odin, so it's not very risky but very kind for all).

I have tried this process on A226BXXS5BVI6 and it worked fine. I did't have to downgrade to A226BXXU5BVH2. Thanks very much.

Thanks.
I modified the explanations to take this information into account.

As long as it's an ab and arm64 version, it will be fine. Googled or vanilla, read only or read-write system, with or without superuser, ...as you want.
If you choose one of these CherishOS A12 or A13, all releases seem to be possible.

Also I tried the Cherish GSIs you linked but when I do "fastboot flash system gsi.img" it says "Invalid sparse file format at header magi" (not magic or something it really says "magi") can you help me (again) I'm pretty new to all this samsung stuff and GSIs

I'm sorry but I'm not a specialist (newbie too) and I never seen this so I don't know.
Maybe you GSI.img is corrupted, try to download and uncompress it again.
I also advise you to begin the process again (or just flash from TWRP) with the new Could-Chaplain's TWRP 12.1 v2.00.1-alpha instead of my twrp12.1_a226b_recovery.tar which is just a makeshift job.
Touch dosent work is there a fix for this?
