Question Keep Rog Vision on always even when screen off? - ASUS ROG Phone 5 / 5s

Hi i just got my Rog Ultimate and its a fab phone. The Rog vision display is a great party trick but i dont see an option to keep it always on. It goes off once the screen gos off Is there anyway i can keep it always on?

Is there anything in Armory Crate or in with the Always On Display settings?
Hopefully someone else will get an Ultimate and stumble across it. Most people have the standard model, since the release of the Ultimate is still quite limited.

Yes. When you open Advanced Settings under System lighting, there is an option for Screen off but there is a bit of a trick to getting there.
Configuring Lighting Profiles:
Open Armory Crate -> Console
Enable Lighting synchronization
When prompted, select the Create option
Press Cancel or OK for the Permission request
Press back (No changes required)
Configure as desired
Disable Lighting synchronization

You can find it under console section
And FYI the reason why ultimate is very limited because next month they will release ultimate with SD 888+ and rename it to rog phone 5s

Is this just a guess or do you know more than me? Could you please link your source because that would be absolutely amazing. There are many speculations and rumors about the upcoming 5a. All I know is that might come - there is a tweet about it but nothing about the design or if this will be the ultimate or not. As far as I know it might as well have the same design as the basic model.
I can't find a valid source for the exact release date either so I guess I miss something

Yeah and you were not correct - still without a global release date and it's not the Ultimate version but the normal one and pro version slightly upgraded.
So in the end it were just guesses after all

I am sad to say this but you can't do anything about it
Now they release rog phone 5s pro with better performance and design than your phone + cheaper too

You are aware the 5s is the 888+ version of the standard, right? The 5s Pro is the "upgrade" to the Ultimate.
ROG Phone 5 Ultimate - NT$ 36,990
Rog Phone 5s - NT$ 29,990 / NT$ 33,990
The top of the line 5s, which has the same RAM and storage, is $100 less expensive in USD. That is without the aeroactive cooler, gift pack, special edition box, rear touch panels, and rear display.
The cheaper of the 5s models is 16 / 256, which is half the storage and 2 GB less RAM for a savings of $250 in USD.

Yeah it's an upgrade but they sell it cheaper than ultimate because ultimate is a mistake. They released it too soon so they must change their chipset when more powerful chipset release this year and they must realized if more people like colorful rear display than monochrome rear display
That's why you won't find rog 5 pro anywhere because they save it for rog 5s pro
Rog 5s pro has better Chipset, better touch sampling, better design, better rear display colorful vs monochrome in ultimate) and I said it again it's cheaper in Taiwan
Even if you compare Rog 5s basic 16 / 256 vs ultimate 18 / 512, Rog 5s has better performance than ultimate in gaming. No games will use that much RAM and even 8gb RAM is enough for mobile gaming. So back to the day Chipset and GPU is what matters the most for gaming
You will notice more fps and stability when you play heavy games like genshin impact if you use Rog 5s Basic compare to Rog 5 Ultimate. Not mention Rog 5s which is more powerful. But if you play PUBG or Free Fire then it has same performance

Well... that's in fact not true... You don't find it anywhere because as soon as it is released it is sold out..
The EU release was 2 days ago and lasted ~2h until all URLs to the phone disappeared. JP release is coming in the next week and some other Asian countries as well.
Malaysian store lasted only about 30 minutes as well.
I would rather say it's the other way around and they released the Ultimate way too late for reasons only god knows. I they launched it in may everything would be fine.

No, they just didn't plan to be so behind with the original Pro and Ultimate releases, but most companies knew the 888+ was coming well in advance. I hope you honestly weren't believing they heard the news like a week ago and scrambled to make up a prototype.

I'm sure you already knew that the difference between the two is only 0.155GHz from one core, with an AI performance only 20% better, which really isn't as impressive as you made it seem.
8GB RAM is enough for casual mobile gaming, but it is also being shared with the firmware and other applications. You will notice an immediate improvement with 12 GB and a bigger one with 16 GB.

Ideally, you want the best fps without losing visual quality. You can boost the fps with a better processor. If you lack the RAM, though, it will be at the cost of the visual quality. This is why you need both a better processor AND more RAM together.
Games that only focus on framerate without much visual depth will appear to run well with a CPU well above the minimum requirement because there is far less data that needs to be loaded at one time.
I hope you made an account for more than an attempt to mock someone for wasting their money. That appears to have failed.
That aside, the rear display being on with the screen off is a software feature. They could easily release an update to support it.

Xiaomi Mi4 worth getting in 2017?

I recently got my Nexus 6P (64GB) stolen and I'm thinking of getting the Mi4 since I'm on a tight budget. I'm also considering getting a Redmi 3S but it's a bit expensive compared to the Mi4 being an older device. I haven't used a custom rom ever since I used a Note 5, iPhone 6 Plus and Nexus 6P and I'm thinking of using a custom rom if I do get the Mi4. So do you guys think the Mi4 is still worth getting in 2017?
What i've heard, also camera in these new cheap ones is not as good as at launch with Sony sensor.
Snapdragon 801 seems plenty fast to me, I'm not trying to play VR games on my phone after all. Maybe some people are?

OK, so, which one is better than the Redmi 4 at $175 (current price)?
Which one is better than a Oneplus One for under $300?
I've had a Oneplus One since shortly after they were released. Looking to upgrade eventually, once I can get something with: USB C, better battery life, better camera - for $300 or less.

Can't find other one with Google, too much results. IIRC it was in en.miui.com.
As a mi4 user myself, I do not recommend it this day. This device is very good incase of build quality and battery life but it is outdated. You can at least go for Mi4c ( if I'm not mistaken, the one with sd 808 and 3 gigs of ram ) It will get Nougat too in summer maybe.
still works fine
it all depends on your usage of the phone. If you're looking into playing games then the SD801 might be not enough any more. If you need all LTE bands working, the MI4 wouldn't be the right thing.
cons:
-- gpu performance not up to par with current gpu's
-- different versions of the phone without LTE or only band 1,3
- only qualcomm quick charge 2.0
pro:
++ 5 inch JDI IPS screen is still top (1080p)
++ 13MP rear camera with sony sensor (IMX214 with f 1,8), not many top devices can beat that.
++ 8MP front camera with sony sensor (IMX219 with f 1,8), not many top devices can beat that.
++ build quality is top
+ 3080mAh battery is good enough
for me the best thing is the community support: you still get all sorts of custom roms including the latest nougat updates (check the MI3 forum, they are mostly working for the MI4 too).

Sorry for the super late reply, been busy with my studies. Anyway I got myself a Redmi 4A instead due to unexpected circumstances that killed my budget (lol). I don't really play games on my phone so I guess this would do for now. I'll save up and probably get something better by the end of this year or earlier next year. Though the Redmi 4A battery life is pretty good but I do miss the large screen, stereo speakers, and camera of the 6P *sobs*

Here's the official news about OnePlus 6 launch and specifications

Here's all you need to know about OnePlus 6 launch and specifications
There have been several rumours about OnePlus 6‘s launch date, with the most recent one claiming it to be on May 21. It turns out, this date wasn’t far off, as the Chinese company has just confirmed that the OnePlus 6 will meet us officially on May 17 in China. This finally puts a rest to the conflicting release dates suggested by different rumours in the past couple of weeks.
Now that the launch date is confirmed, we can finally focus on the other aspects of the device. The OnePlus 6 is confirmed to feature a glass body with round corners, different from the all metal design adorned by the previous flagships. This should also pave way for Wireless Charging support, a first for a OnePlusflagship device. The glass body has been reportedly selected among 70 different prototypes and the final product will feature 5 layers of nanotech coating to give a better feel of depth on the rear glass as compared to competitors.
Coming to the specs, the OnePlus 6 is almost confirmed to feature a notch up front on its 6-inch AMOLED display. Other rumored specs of the device include Snapdragon 845, 3450mAh battery, 8GB RAM, 128GB / 256GB ROM options, and a 16+20MP rear dual cameras.
The OnePlus 6 release date in India was said to be May 18 according to a recent report from Money Control. With the official launch in China set for May 17, this date doesn’t seem to be far off. However, it is worth adding that OnePlus had officially reached out to us stating that this release date was false. So, we’ll have to wait for an official confirmation from the company for the India launch date of the OnePlus 6.
Note that the OnePlus 6’s China launch conference tickets will go on sale from April 27 at 10AM.
And now, an additional official info says there Will be an event in London the 16th to introduce the oneplus 6 : https://www.gizchina.com/2018/04/25/oneplus-6-global-launch-event-set-for-may-16/ and the official teaser https://twitter.com/oneplus/status/989048462758109185

It most likely will not.
Jhn
Oneplus 6 will be available to buy straight away after premiere 16 may?
Or we will have to wait few days?
How it was with for example 5t?
Full specs
The listing informs us that the phone will be powered by a 2.45GHz octa-core chipset, undoubtedly the Snapdragon 845, 6GB of RAM, and will have 64GB of native storage. That's certainly the most basic version of the phone, which will likely feature a souped-up version with 128GB of storage and 8GB of RAM. A 3,300mAh battery will keep all of the lights going strong hopefully for a full day of usage in the least.
Further down the line, the device is listed as having a large 6.28-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 by 2280 pixels which works out a 19:9 aspect ratio. Although it's not listed in the TENAA listing, we know for a fact that the device will also feature a display notch - it's just how phones roll these days.
In the rear, we find a dual camera combo consisting of 20 and 16MP snappers whereas the selfie camera is listed as being a 16MP one. In terms of size and dimensions, the OnePlus 6 will likely measure up at 155.7×75.35×7.75mm and tip the scales at 177gr. Android 8.1 will be running the show; we expected nothing less.
Cameras will be the same like in 5T? How do you think?
@Gramzz
According to rumors the 20MP and 16M are the same as on 5T but they will use a new sensor on 6 with the same MP.

Hi all..
I've just bought a Nokia 7Plus and love it's updates cycle among many other things.
But now I feel I should have waited for OP6 ( my earlier phone had broken in April and thought OP6 would come after June end).
Just one question-
How is the security updates cycle of OnePlus?
Do they make you wait like Honor and HTC or are they better?
Thanks
can someone comment on the camera?
what will it be comparable too?
i bought the p20 pro because of the camera specs very nice on paper, more than not it takes really nice photos.
i hope the oneplus 6 can rival it, if it does ill be purchasing and selling the p20 pro
Will there definitely be a 8Gb/256Gb version upon launch ?
According to 'leaked' German Amazon website: OnePlus 6 will have OIS, and Super Slow-mo, with SD845. Base modell price: 520€, 8/128 570€. There were no information about any 256GB modell. Maybe it's the Avangers special?

Redmi Note 7 Pro Is On The Way! Time To Upgrade?

Hello Ladies & Gentleman...
Long Time No Chat With.. My XRN5-AI has been doing quite well Stock-Rooted.. So, there has not been much for me to say here..
But.....
The Redmi Note 7 Pro is in the pipe!
And.. It looks SHARP..
Circle Notch
Snapdragon 660
48 MP Camera
USB-C
Hold The Price Point... and I'm sure it will be a winner.. Anyway check out one of the 1st Videos on UTube right here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nS7gkeZKxYs
Meh, I'm happy with Note 5 and plus don't like notch phones.
notch part is a no no for me. ill pass
Let's wait for camera tests
Well I don't find any Good reason to upgrade to Redmi Note 7
It's still more of a incremental upgrade, SD660 & SD636 are basically same except for lower clock speeds and GPU. And in my daily usage it works great. Battery is capacity is same in both and it runs easily for a day with heavy usage.
I am ok with the 18:9 display with bezels than jump on the Notch trend. And for the Camera, with Arnova Gcam and some patches (nHappyman/BBD) it takes great shots in daylight. Glass back is premium, but metal body of RN5 isn't bad either. It's not even a year since RN5 launched here, still in warranty.
Only great thing to upgrade will be USB C and DAC.
And Where else will I get such Great Development for a Phone with almost all toms available & Thug Devs ?
Not Really..

You Sound Happy...
You Also Sound Like Someone Who Just Invested Their Money In The Note 5..
I Agree.. It's a GREAT phone... For It's Time..
But.... Said To Say.... It is now a " 2 Generation Old Phone*....
My plan was.. to sell mine. ( Upgrade Cash Almost There..) But now, I'm just going to throw it in a cabinet ( A 4/64 I bought new for $199.00 USD )
Because Resale Value only nets about $0.55 Cents-To-A-$1.00 (USD) and being 2 Generations Old.. The Resale Value is only going to Decrease.
You use the term "Incremental Upgrades"... That's Pretty Much What All Models Do...
And Development Will Be Just As Strong... This is not the Note 6.. That, was / is a B.S. device IMO... Nothing was done except to add a 2nd sensor and a notch..
The Note 7 is that Leap Forward.. to compete with the growing "Bang For Your Buck" devices coming in waves in the Midrange/ Upper Midrange Segment.
Huawei 8x.. Samsung M10 / M20.. Asus Pro M2... Realme 2... Lenovo Z5 Pro... all have to watch out for the Redmi Note 7 Pro / AI
This one's specs indeed raise the bar.. :victory:

Although you're not wrong, but what I feel is, if you gotta upgrade, upgrade to something in the SD8XX range, whether 845/855. There's not really much point in jumping from a mid-ranger to mid-ranger device. You'd never really feel much of a difference in performance except in build quality ofcourse.

You're Entitled To Your Opinion...
And.. I Respect That.
But, let me give you an example...
I'm very fortunate to have a fairly late model Toyota 4-Door Sedan paid off in full.
Does that mean in 2020 when I plan on buying my next vehicle.. I should "Upgrade" to something more Expensive? Faster? because it needs to be a more powerful V-6 than the 301 horsepower V-6 I currently have?
Or.. can I move up because I like the way the newer model looks? or the Technology that it possesses? Even though the power may be the same or slightly better..
How About Value?
That's important.. right?
At what point do you move on from something when you are getting diminishing value... does the Note 5 Pro / AI still do the job? Yes. Does My Toyota still get me where I need to go? Yes.
But that does not mean if I have the means.. I would not buy another equal model that has been updated with better specs / options..
That applies to my Toyota and my Redmi device. :victory:

Not really same category.. You are talking here 200usd vs 500usd.. then better buy pixel, or mate 20 pro for 1000usd + with this logic..Also huaweii is really shady and dont allow bootloader unlock anymore, so for a lot of people here its not an option.

Yeah Buddy..
I can't blame you there.
There is not a thing wrong with the XRN5 Pro / AI.. ESPECIALLY running Stock.. Batterylife is just amazing... I can't kill it in a day.
I'm still on 9.5.17... and will NEVER leave it as long as I use this device.. I am rooted for a couple of apps and TWRP for backup but that's it.
After seeing the "Hole Punch" trend that is going to the 2019 thing to do.. I'm not impressed.
So, for me an upgrade has been narrowed down to the One Plus 7 or Mi Mix 3s , 4, 3+... whatever they are going to call their Snapdragon 855 version.
I 'll keep the XRN5-AI in it's box.. and use it for those wild nights in the streets...
For me I think it is too early to jump to redmi note 7 from Redmi note 5 ai.
2019 is the year of 'midrange smartphones 3rd World War' we just have to see the war unfold till 2nd or 3rd quarter before leaving RN5 for another midrange phone.
The major con with waiting is resell value! If you sell your RN5 now, you will make more money than selling it in the next 3 months with tons of midrange flooding the market.
Anyways, that's not a problem for me, I have a trick of selling my smartphones costlier than I bought them but that trick requires patience.... ?
Major Pros
RN5 can match most midrange phones in real life usage.
If you hate notches RN5 is added bonus and I hate notches even the punch hole ?
With Pixel 3 GCAM working already you won't miss much on photo aspect.
Conclusion:
If you intend to sell your own RN5 and you love notches do it now!
If you so can't live with notch keep your RN5 and wait a little... Better things than Redmi Note 7 can be ahead...
If you want to move from midrange to flagship the answer is wait too!
USB type C is good but isn't a deal breaker for me, my OTG drive is still micro USB but an adapter can solve the problem
The phone itself looks gimmicky. But i will give it a try, hopefully a review will come out first.
Note 7 Pro is Snapdragon 675
For me not interesting, I have my Redmi Note 5 just for 2 and a half months now and I usually use a new phone for at least 2 years. And I'm totally satisfied with this phone.

Me too. But if its really a big jump I mean hardware, photos, etc... Why not?
Because Note 6 compare to 5, not worth it at all.

Yeah maybe, but for me, be it a normal Notch or a waterdrop Notch, that is an downgrade for me, since I'm a total Notch Hater/avoider. And USB-Type C is not an must have for me either, since I not owned a single USB C Device ever.

This site says that the 3,5mm jack still exist, even though there is USB C.

What do you think of the ROG 2 over the ROG phone?

Here is a review of the ROG 2 for the ones who haven't seen it yet:
My thoughts:
I am probably one of the few who have nothing to complain about the ROG except for some small remarks:
1. The only main drawback of the ROG phone was its Camera and lack of developer support.
2. The lack of frequent updates which I can live with because lets face it Android Pie doesn't add much to Oreo. Our phone is rich with features that even the latest phones with the latest update lack to this day.
My view of the ROG 2:
To be honest I am kind of disappointed, the phone is a beast and if you don't own the ROG phone already it would be highly recommended to upgrade to if you don't care that much for photography. But to be honest if you already own the ROG phone I feel we are not missing much except maybe for the higher refresh rate and battery life.
Edit:
The base model(8GB Ram, 128GB Storage) is selling for 3499 RMB (~508 USD), totally worth the upgrade especially if you swap it with the old model.
Obviously a great phone with ridiculous specs, especially the battery. But it's just a bit too big for my taste.
Rog 2 is a massive upgrade of a phone. I have read somewhere there are aiming to price the 8gb variant close to Oneplus 7 pro and that is close to 700 dollars. This phone will force all android phone to upgrade their specs very soon. It has got a 120hz Samsung screen when Samsung itself it is stuck at 60hz. It is the 2nd phone with UFS 3.0 along with Oneplus 7 pro again made by Samsung and it has got the same great camera as 6z, therefore, will force other gaming phones to take photography seriously.
I jut purchased the 512gb ROG Original to replace my Samsung s10 5G which i hated other than the camera. I have had the Razer Phone 2 also but boxy design made my hands hurt, I like the ROG 2 and will probably get it if it get a global variant in Australia.
Price announced for China
As reported by Gadgets 360, starting from the base variant named ‘Tencent Depth Customisation’ with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage, it’s priced at CNY 3,499 (approximately Rs 35,000). The next variant carrying the same configuration called ‘Enjoy Peace in Beijing’ has a price tag of CNY 3,699 (approximately Rs 37,100). Coming to the bigger specced variant that includes 12 GB RAM and 128 GB storage, it’s priced at CNY 5,999 (approximately Rs 60,100). This configuration is also available in the ‘Enjoy Peace in Beijing’ variant priced at CNY 6,199 (approximately Rs 62,100).
Two additional variants were also announced including a Zhizun version priced at CNY 7,999 (approximately Rs 80,200) and an Esports Armour version that goes all the way up to CNY 12,999 (approximately Rs 1,30,300). Although there were no details about the RAM and storage, we think the two variants could be packing 12 GB RAM and 512 GB storage.
Just checked the ASUS store; the base model with 8 GB ram and 128 GB storage is selling for 3499 RMB and I guess they are offering a small discount if you are one of the early birds. Still it's not open for purchase yet, you will have to wait until the 30th of July to pre-order.
I think I will be pre ordering it for that price nothing can beat it with such pricing, i will either swap the ROG phone for the ROG 2 base model or sell it later on in the market.
Here is an in depth look into Android Pie on the ROG 2, I would assume the ROG phone will be running the same software customizations.
i don't get the 6000mah and the resulting weight.
for me, a phone is a phone first, so it should be pocketable
the first ROG Phone was all about modules, so why not keep the phone as light as the first one and add a battery pack module
something like the battery pack module for the Motorola phones
the size and weight made me decide for a different phone (P30 Pro)
The base model unboxing:
I ordered older first gen as I'll wait and see what global release is like first and rom update support etc. In AUS it will be in the $1400+ aud range. Rog one 900 atm. Moving from my razer phone 2 as box design hard on hands

Just know there isn't much developer support for the ROG probably because of it's price and marketing.
That's why I believe the ROG 2 will have more attention and support than the first generation mainly because of value to money especially the base model.
I have both devices initially I was thinking of selling the ROG phone but I love both so for now I am keeping it. The ROG 2 has smaller bezels which I love, the underscreen fingerprint of the ROG 2 to be honest not that great I am using face lock which is way faster. In terms of speakers I think both of them give the same experience, the ROG 2 slightly has more defined vocals you can hardly tell. The thing I love about the first generation is the size of the phone my God it's very comfortable to hold in comparison. Overall I think it's the best time to buy the first generation but I would rather buy the second generation because it has up to date technology which will last more. All in all both devices are great. Oh one more thing ROG 2 is a better choice to go with because of the Camera. The downfall of Gaming phones is the camera and since the ROG 2 is the latest and greatest gaming phone it's better to go with it. Good luck!

Its looks like it will be arround $1600 for 512gb model here in AUS so ill wait not spending that much on a phone.. i dont game just like features and specs ROG 1 more then enough for me.
Wonder if ASUS do same as did with first ROG. They just throw away some minor updates and just leave it after half year because ROG 3
The lack of SD card support is a downgrade. Yea it has faster specs other than that but no improvements on network support. How are they releasing a phone this expensive with virtually no bands when compared to their competitors. Look all all the other top of the lines phones and even mid range and it is hard to find ones with such terrible network support.
B66 (1700/2100)
B71 (600)
Missing from the phone, which may impact T-Mobile coverage. Darn.
I love the ROG one the size is Perfect but will upgrade to RoG 2 when globally released

Believe me Android Pie sucks. I have the ROG 2 and The ROG Oreo Rom is way better than the Pie Rom. Pie doesn't add any extra functionality.

no worries as long as they fixed some problems and update the security patched..
Hi I got the ROG 1, Asus its update policy sucks !!!!!! No or poor answers in their Zen Forum.
At this time nobody is talking anymore about Android Pie but Android 10 !!!!!!!!
Believe me I'll never get the 9 or 10 on my so called flagship.
They will do the same with ROG 2
https://piunikaweb.com/2019/09/24/asus-rog-phone-android-pie-release-date-unknown-says-company/

It may suck but, atleast for me that is not the point. It should not been updated by now. If they they can't even get pie on first ROG then how can we expect to get the better Android 10.

Question Are you interested in switching to a Google Pixel 7 Pro?

Are you willing to spend as much or a little more on the new Google Pixel 7 Pro, which seems to be a best of smartphone?
If you want to know more about the Google Pixel 7 serie, go to read HERE
If it uses the same modem as the 6 Pro, absolutely not.

It turns out that the Pixel 6 Pro uses the Shannon A5123 5G modem made by Samsung, the Shannon 5511 sub-6GHz FR1 transceiver box, and the Shannon 5710 FR2 mmWave transceiver. The latter is missing from the non-US versions of the Pixel 6 Pro.
Subject to confirmation, the Pixel 7 Pro is said to use Samsung's Exynos 5300 modem
We'll just have to wait and see what modem Google uses for the 7 series and the 7 Pro in particular

From what I've heard, it will have a new modem. That's why I nearly surely will get the 7 Pro.
I am interested, my op10 pro goes back to amazon and I'll use OP7 pro.

There are no sources so no Kernel/Rom, lenses are blocked so no gcam, and there is no msm download tool anymore,
Soo OP 10 pro is trash.
I want to like the P7P, I want to get one, but the more I look at it, the more I lean towards jumping ship for Samsung or most likely Apple. It would be my first apple mobile device, but aside from the eSIM all seems well.
The P6 is dreaded, and it took them way too long to offer software fixes.
I'm worried about the modem and don't understand why they're not going with Qualcomm.
It doesn't look like we'll be getting much in terms of camera improvement.
The battery will most likely be similar to the P6.
To answer your question plainly, I don't think there is any price point that justifies the risk of another failed device. I plan on waiting for the reviews. If the modem ain't stellar, it will be an automatic no from me because of my remote usage. If the modem works as well as the competition, then I'll have a hard time choosing.
Not interested at this time, but will be watching hand's on reports and reviews....
After hearing that it still has A55 cores, it's a no for me. I have not decided if I'm sticking with my OnePlus 9 or switching back to iPhone (I was on the 12 Pro Max for the last two weeks but the OOS13 beta dropped on the OnePlus 9 today and I kind of like it so I'm back on the OnePlus for now) but most relevant to this thread, I'm *not* going back to Pixel.
I'm writing this from a pixel 2 XL. Was previously using a One Plus 9 Pro. Had to switch back after the hyped up Hasselblad camera stopped focusing. In hindsight, it was a mistake to go with the one plus brand. My old pixel 2 it's working much better, and I will certainly be getting the 7 Pro
Will depend on modem. The modem on Pixel 6 Pro is absolute dog**** worst I have used.
But I will be getting rid of the Pixel 6 Pro, this is by far the worst phone I have ever used.
I am very happy with the 6 pro, but I like the look of the new minimal curve on the 7 pro. if there is also a higher peak brightness i'll be tempted, depending on trade in deals.
I did not plan on buying the P7 Pro, but since it does bring in a couple serious improvements, I made my pre-order today
- finally we get decent 10 bit HDR recording
- Faceunlock (as far as the presentation went, it's only for unlocking the phone and will not work as a biometric in-app or to make a payment)
- finally a decent peak brightness to work in the sun (1500 nits)
- 20 vs 30 res zoom with new nifty features
- macro mode (missed that since my ancient Samsung Galaxy alpha days), guided frame also looks promising for making videos
- better modem (this one needs reviews of course to validate any improvements; the P6 Pro modem is terrible)
- Tensor 2 should bring, if we look at the node and Googles claims, a 20% improvement in efficiency = better battery life
- and last but not least, the deciding factor that made me get the P7 Pro... European Google store offer the Pixel Watch LTE, valued at 429 €, for free when pre-ordering the 899 € P7 Pro. If I couple that with Rakuten and a Google Store cashback of 10% (Google One, 2 TB), sell the watch and my old phone, I get a new shiny phone and will actually have more money than I started out with. That's great of course.
In July, I had planned to buy the Nothing Phone(1) which looked interesting, and which is despite its setbacks the 1st smartphone produced by Nothing. Then, for personal reasons, I didn't buy it, and I turned to the Pixel 7 series that was supposed to arrive.
Very tempted by the 7Pro in 256GB, I hesitated for a long time and changed my mind again.
Looking at the specs, even if Google has improved this 7 series, I'll try to wait for the 8 series, which should arrive with a new processor and finally a non-curved screen and maybe a significantly reduced size for the 8Pro 256GB.
I'm staying with my OP 7T 256GB which I'll soon upgrade to custom rom, as OnePlus is not in a hurry to upgrade it to OOS12.
I wish you good time for the owners Pixel 7 serie

I'm not sure if that hope of yours will result in reality. Google has made it clear that they are all about design and how it looks, and less about function. Just listen to the people presenting Pixel products, look at the Pixel watch (little screen real estate (square smartwatches have great advantage) and continental sized bezels are okay, as long as it looks good): the aesthetic is of greater importance to Google than practicality.
There is simply nothing to indicate that Google would steer away from that path. They consider a curved display to look nice.
Ergo I highly doubt that Google would dramatically change that business strategy for the next iteration of this phone. People like you and me, who would enjoy an even panel more, are simply not in the targeting group of Googles marketing.
The Pixel 7 Pro is almost perfect but the Pixel 6 has the worst connectivity and reception of any phone I've used, even behind the Galaxy devices.
No reviews means it would be just great on paper.
it's time to retire my oneplus 7 pro and get pixel 7 pro
I really wish google would get into the charging game like the oneplus 10 plus... That thing charges from 20% to 80% in 10 minutes
