Is there any way to carrier unlock this from AT&T? I remember years ago there were some that you could use Odin to carrier unlock. Just curious if its possible with this one or if there is another method.

Odin is a Samsung tool, so that wouldn't work on a Motorola.
What's the model number of the device?
I know there are some different tools for different phones, Odin was just the one I remembered.. I was thinking there was a fairly universal one but couldn't remember or find it. The model number is XT2113.

Every Motorola model number has 5 digits. There's a dash and then another digit, after the 3

Metro/T-Mo is XT2113-2.
And T-Mo stopped using codes a long time ago so it's not done by code, but yes, it can be done

Thanks for the info. Yeah I did find a few places last night that would do it, looking at around $30 or $40. Any free sources your aware. And thank you for hte help
Also, any chance a t-mobile sim would work in it, or just metropcs? thanks

If it's from Metro, you cannot use a T-Mo SIM without unlocking it.
Metro SIM *can* be used on a T-Mo one without unlocking it though. MVNO rules are weird

Considering it for a potential buy. Buyer is asking $75, so the price is right. I won't be going on metro though, I have way too many lines as it is. It's cheaper to just unlock than pay for 4 months of service, she had it on network for 40ish days and the metro rep says I can pick up where she left off.....which surprised me. I figured it'd be continuous service and/or per an account....but apparently not.

I wonder if it's unlocked, if it would be work on Verizon's network. It lists band 13 in the specs (I don't see any CDMA listed but I could have missed it, and I'm not really concerned about 3g anyway). But I guess it won't be listed in verizon's white list (IIRC that's how they validate IMEIs?). I've heard of peeps calling to get the imei added, but that seems like a long shot.....

I'm assuming you meant SELLER is asking $75.
And no, 180 days total is what Metro requires - doesn't have to be continuous or even on the same number

No, no CDMA. But most areas are VoLTE now anyways, so it's not as needed anymore.

You don't have to pay for the full 6 months of service to get it unlocked. I've gotten 4 phones so far from Metro and I always only pay the 1st month, cancel, then chuck it in a drawer and leave it there for the next 5 months. Haven't had any issues unlocking. I've heard of people filing FCC complaints to get devices unlocked early, but I think they may have paid for their devices outright instead of getting it in some sort of promo. YMMV.

What makes you think this period is six months? T-mobile's website states "At least 365 days must have passed since the device was activated on the T Mobile network" for prepaid phones.

For T-Mobile yes. (Although they'll also unlock a prepaid device once $100 in refills have been paid).
But the past 10 or so messages have been about Metro, not T-Mobile

Did'nt they pass some law or loose some class action suit, after 90 days in good standing or something like that AT&T has to give you the unlocked code... The only exception I think was the Iphone, something about thats apple's terms to unlock or not....

You're in the same boat as me. I bought one today knowing it was locked and might not have a code available for a few weeks from one of the "usual" places.
If you did like I did and bought it legit from an AT&T store, there's a chance you can call up AT&T tomorrow (what I'm trying) and get it unlocked all proper like. Otherwise, you may be in for a bit of a wait.

Problem is I bought it outright from Best Buy today to use on Rogers in Canada, so I don't have an ATT account. I thought the unlock would be relatively painless.

Yeah me too. One reason I'm hesitating to buy it is that it's sim locked to AT&T. Since I also travel to other countries, I really need a totally unlocked phone. Please let us know how it turns out.
Phoned AT&T this morning and was told that the Captivate cannot be unlocked, at least not right now.
I called back (sometimes that helps) and chatted with another rep. and was told that AT&T has a 10 month exclusivity to the Samsung Captivate, and there would be no unlock until then.
10 months?? exclusive?? Get a clue AT&T, this thing is available on every major network, and unlocked on most.
If you don't have a post-paid AT&T account, you will get no help from AT&T for this unlock.
But most AT&T reps have no clue what it is. You have to explain to them. But only if you meet the qualification (post-paid, at least 90 days etc.).

I've tried the second one and they came back with 'no code found', and refunded my money.
I also phoned AT&T with my brother's account info and they told me 'can't unlock the phone for 10 months due to it's an AT&T exclusive phone'.
I called AT&T as I have a Premier Account with International calling and always get a subsidy sim unlock, but they were unable to find the unlock code. It seems that these are not available yet. AT&T might be blocking them for a while since the phone is so new.
Tried www.cellunlocker.net/www.unlockcodesource.com and they could not find a code for my phone either. Just ordered from www.unlockallcellular.com. Lets see how that goes.
For some reason, my IMEI ends with /2 after the usual 15 numbers. Anyone know why?
same here, 16 digits/2
My order with unlockallcellular.com is showing as Generating Code... at the moment.
Not getting my hopes up at this point though.
Order is still pending, but they have updated their website, the Captivate is now listed as Not Available.
Bummer.

I am starting to think that this has something to do with our weird IMEI's that end with /02. Maybe some new sim lock feature that Samsung and AT&T have come up with to prevent unlocking. Does anyone know the Vibrant and Galaxy S IMEI formats? Do the have 15 digits and the /02?

I just got my at&t one mini unlocked today and can receive/send voice and text without issue using a T-Mobile USA sim card. However, I don't yet have any data connection. I was told it could take up to 24 hours so I'll report back tomorrow.

My apologies if this question is foolish, but AT&T says they can't unlock my htc one mini for me, even though I paid for it in full, says there is no unlock code for it. Talk to tech support and everything, and they still deny there is a code available.
So I try ebay and other pay for code websites; probably like 8 of them can't find an unlock code. They have even searched the 'not found' databases.
Is it possible to have a phone that is 'unlockable?" or one that has no code for it? Are there any alternative methods to unlock the sim to use on other networks? I've never had such a hard time finding an unlock code for a cell phone.
Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide!

As mentioned earlier, this same thing happened to me. The customer service reps don't know why, but their computers tell them they don't have an unlock code. They have to open a "case" for you and some technical guru will call you back with the unlock code.
Keep in mind (I found this out the hard way), unless you root the phone, you won't be able to use the WiFi hotspot feature on T-mobile.

Well I finally managed get an unlock code through AT&T.
Spent and hour last week with tech support, and then a supervisor had to then request the unlock code specially on my behalf to another person higher up. Got a case number and 1 week later this morning got the code. It was a painful process, totally not worth the time. Better to pay for the code.
I had tried cellunlocker.net 2 weeks ago, but I guess the code wasn't available then but is now.
Note to self; don't buy a phone when its totally brand new to unlock, wait a few weeks or months.

Not much unfortunately if the SIM is locked to Sprint. Maybe someone else can shed some light on what happens when you flash another U.S. carriers ROM on a phone sold by a different carrier. Meaning if you Odin flashed an AT&T ROM on your Sprint phone would the radio take on the characteristics of AT&T? I'm thinking that the IMEI will forever be identified to Sprint since it was sold as theirs no matter what you do s/w wise.
I'm guessing the guy you bought it from bought it on an installment plan. That or he received it via UPS/FedEx and reported it not delivered. Or worse, picked it up off someone who was supposed to have received its front porch. If there are unpaid installments Sprint won't unlock it. If it was claimed not delivered or stolen its IMEI is blacklisted which means it won't work on AT&T (or pretty much any carrier) no matter what you do.
You can check if the IMEI is blacklisted here. Although since we're talking 72 hours it might not be listed yet even if it was reported lost/stolen.

So, he gets a new Galaxy S8, since his phone was "lost/stolen" by paying for the deductible, he gets to sell YOUR Galaxy S7 Edge for some money, AND he has $100 cash to throw towards that deductible. I'm guessing the deductible will be $150 or $200 for the S8. So, how much can he sell your S7 Edge for? $400 or so?

Q: Is there a deductible charge or additional fee?
There is a $50, $100, $150 or $200 non-refundable deductible per approved insurance replacement (depending upon your device). Payment of the deductible is required upon approval of the claim.

Yes they all support different bands. Some share a few bands but most work best on that specific carrier themselves.
Flashing firmware does nothing to lock status. It has to be unlocked by operator or by code from 3rd party. You cant do anything now just wait for unlock code.

Why would you ever buy off of Craig's List when you can buy off of swappa? Stupid.
That guy is likely going to stop paying on that device and then it will be blacklisted and worthless. You made an expensive mistake. Next time, buy off of swappa.
If you get the unlocked version from HTC's website, does it support Sprint, or will they have different radios? I tweeted HTC and they said that the unlocked version will NOT support Sprint.... But if you look on there website at the radios then I don't see an issue, they are the same as the unlocked version.
Here is a link to the website for the radios.
http://www.htc.com/us/smartphones/htc-u11/buy/#!color=black
And the unlocked radios:
http://www.htc.com/us/go/htc-u11-unlocked/
I also asked if I were to get the Sprint version would that support all other carriers (ie. AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon), I did not get a response from HTC.
I will say this would be absolutely ridiculous if the Sprint version is dumb down and doesn't support the rest of the world. I honestly would think about switching if this were the case. I just want to be on a GSM carrier that I don't have to worry about "if my phone will work" on this network. Annoying.
BTW I say this because I travel a lot, so having 1 phone that works everywhere would be the best thing in the world.

Annoying.
BTW I say this because I travel a lot, so having 1 phone that works everywhere would be the best thing in the world.

out of the box, the Unlocked ROM would not support Sprint, but the hardware is the same between the unlocked & sprint, so technically you could flash the Sprint ROM on the unlocked model. The problem is the unlocked IMEI would not be whitelisted. As far as the Sprint model supporting the GSM carriers...yes it would, provided the sim was unlocked...or you could flash the unlocked ROM.

OMFG THANK YOU! This makes way more sense now. I have been all over the Internet looking for an answer. Well at least I know the actual hardware is the same.
I feel like having to deal with hoping that Sprint will support the unlocked devices IMEI wpuld be worse then buying the Sprint flavor.
So I have 2 easy options then.
1. Buy it from Sprint at full price and do not extend my contact. Then have them unlock it which they can't say no to if I have no obligation to them.
2. Buy it from HTC but in the Sprint version. But I have to figure out if it is unlocked. I think it is. It looks like it is on there website.
Man I hate how buying phones and carrier plans work in the US. I wish we would go to an overseas model, and almost every phone is unlocked. Then you just decided what service you want yourself. So easy to just walk in a store and get service with whatever phone you want.

Ah that is very handy, I might look into doing that. Thank You.
However, I do think I am going to purchase the phone at full price anyway as that is what I was planning on doing, but this is good to know. At least the hardware is the same and I wont be locked down by Sprint. I should just buy it direct from HTC I think.

Yeah, it is cheaper to buy from HTC at full price especially with the $50 off code.. Plus you could make interest free payments via PayPal credit if you wanted to

Ya I was thinking the same thing. But its weird on HTC's website if you select the Sprint version it doesn't have the color black. But if you go to sprint they do..... facepalm.
Also I spoke with Sprint yesterday to see if they would tell me if the unlocked one works, and they refused to even check. They wanted the MEID of the device, which I don't have, and I told them I don't have it until I buy the phone online and have it shipped to me. So this is annoying.
Also I just ran across this article on Android Central that the Verizon version dose not have CDMA radios. Now that makes me wonder about the Sprint version.

I swear this is a headache. Just go to Sprint and buy the dang thing, then either unlock it myself or have them do it. Just have to suck up the extra $50.

Ya I guess you are right on that. I don't even want the things, I suppose I could just sell them. But I know myself and i am bad a selling electronics even if I don't want them.
Oh and went to Sprint's website today and I could not even click on the HTC U 11. I hope they didn't stop pre-orders. Or I could just till the device comes out I suppose.

last time I checked the device had to be active for 3 months before they would unlock, but not sure if anything has changed....but like I said earlier, it's not difficult to unlock yourself

Edit: Cancelled my pre-order and confirmed with 2 people on the support staff that they will not be shipping until mid-month.

Hey guys. Kinda bad news. HTC (Germany) just told me after telling me this morning my unit will ship today that it will ship on the 8th of June.
I asked why they didn’t contact me and sent me an email telling me it is delayed. They just told I am expected to contact them in order to know my shipping date. A bit ridiculous.
I sincerely hope they don’t have hardware issues.
Well if it’s the same as with my pixel xl then we all have to wait because HTC cant keep its production up with the demand.

I was able to get my T-Mobile S22 Ultra Unlocked 2 days ago by speaking to T-Mobile support via T-Force on Twitter. It's relatively easy, all you need to tell them is you frequently go overseas and have a trip coming up. I got my phone unlocked within a few minutes.
I purchased my T-Mobile varient S22 Ultra from Samsung .com if anyone was wondering.

Yes that's correct. But I don't think it matters much of as long as you're in good standing on your account. I've been able to unlock phones this way even when I was on my first month of financing from T-Mobile.
I hate these posts. No they will not do this is your phone's not paid off. Obviously anyone will knock your phone if it's paid off no matter where you reach out or what excuse you give them.

I'm not saying you haven't had success. I used to be able to get TForce to unlock my phone early, if it was paid off. But lately they have cracked down and make you wait 45 days.

Yeah, I was told at first that I need to at least have the device activated for 40 days in order for them to permanently unlock the phone. I only had 4 days of use on the S22U, T-Force person said they only make exceptions for people who travel overseas.

If you are going overseas, yes, they will unlock it. Being military, I did that all the time but generally they will not unlock your phone if it is not paid off.

If it doesn't work keep trying. I once had to speak with support 4 times before they would unlock my financed phone, some are more inclined to help you than others, you just need to be persistent.
I was able to unlock my financed Tmobile phone without any hassles due to oversees travel.

Congrats! Was it the S22 Ultra?
I've tried since day one of Android development back in the early 00's. Not once had it worked for me. Not with a financed phone anyways.
Mine was paid in full and while through the phone it said it was not eligible for unlocking I followed your advice and went on twitter and they approved my unlocking. Sweet

Yeah as long as your account is in good standing they usually help you out.
Now I'm debating if I should root. Lol
Make sure you are not using WiFi calling when you attempt to unlock it. My first attempt on a cell network fixed my unlocking problems.

Unlocking a network locked phone allows you to use sim cards from other service providers.
I was able to unlock my s22 ultra (Bought from Samsung.com T-Mobile variant) took advantage of the $50 activation plus $100 discount.. As soon I received the phone, contacted T-Mobile via Twitter and their T-Force team was able to unlock the phone right away after providing my IMEI number. After the full unlock.. I switched my sim to eSim.. and then Flashed my phone with SM-S908U1 with TMB CSC.. (unlocked version with no T-Mo bloats) and used international sim as well
