Question Using POCO X3 Pro as desktop ? - Xiaomi Poco X3 Pro

I intend to use my POCO X3 Pro as desktop. I would like to
a) connect external display monitor using some USB-C to HDMI cable or dongle
b) use keyboard and mouse (ideally wired but can use Bluetooth as well)
Does POCO X3 Pro on MIUI 12.5 support desktop mode? Any mods required ? Any recommendation for dock ?

reportedly in the work but then again don't keep your hopes up that soon because it was teased for flagship devices and the chances that it would be ported to this phone is likely but lengthy

You can buy a usb-C dock, I've seen them for like 50Euro/$. If doesn't work just return.
I think video output will not work because we have USB 2 and not USB 3.
I've tried it in the past with a Honor View 10(USB 2-didn't work) and with a Mate 10 pro(USB 3- worked fine). Same chipset but different USB versions.
LE: desktop mode worked with wifi display though.

USB-C HDMI support is only available on devices that support USB Type C 3.1 protocol, which unfortunately is not supported by any Xiaomi smartphones. I've researched about it because that's a functionality that I really want on my next smartphone.

This mirrors devices screen like show ETA Prime in his dedicated video.

@daeds for fully wired setup, you can try using usb type C hub + usb type a to hdmi Displaylink adapter and your mouse and keyboard plugged into it, as well as power. I didn't test it, but it should for work, although display resolution and latency will be limited due to slow usb2.0 bus. Poco X3 Pro doesn't support neither DisplayPort over type C nor MHL for better and more straightforwards experience, sadly.

What about this ?
I wish the demo phone language was English! I could not understand it completely.
Now I am
1- using Chromecast to connect display to desktop monitor
2- using Bluetooth to connect keyboard and mouse
Basically just need software to change screen Resolution, PPI and change interface to more desktop like.

Try scrcpy
You're welcome

then can someone explain me this on the developer options??

because this guy uses a normal type c to hdmi and used the developer options-> force desktop mode

Also, as variant you can use Displaylink Interface. I bought "cable creation usb 3 to hdmi converter" + "type-c hub with charging"

After a long time of absence I want to share with All Of You my way to use Our phone on external display.
First of all, my specs:
- Poco X3 Pro vayu 6/128
- 12.5.5.0 RJUEUXM
- Locked bootloader
- over half year of intense usage
I'm familiar with modding/rooting/flashing android phones since Galaxy S1 SGS, so I know a lot, but not everything I tried to mirror many phones on tv/monitors and only two of them worked "successfully", and now at last my Poco is working too. But... Not as I've expected. That's because I'm not rich enough to buy every cable/dock/adapter to test. So (after deep learning on web) I ordered to my favorite shop about 6-7 different cables similar to what I saw in movies and articles, and tested them before I buy the proper one. None of them worked - always the same "NO SIGNAL". Of course I did everything exactly as in guides many times with every adapter. Finally I decided to order one from China - one that worked flawlessly on every video guide I've found. But surprisingly my friend brought me his cable but not working with his phone. And after almost one hour of fighting with every settings and apps.... "finally!!!". At last I can play on big screen.
Happy for now, but I need the cable from those guides, because there's the same problem as I had with my Xperia Z3 (which has support for mhl/HDMI). The resolution is FullHD 1920x1080 60Hz as it should be, but the quality of display is way worse than on phone, and it doesn't send sound to display (need to listen from phone, thru speakers or headphones. Displaying is simultaneous on the phone and on tv/monitor at the same time. And it looks perfect on phone , but worse on external display. You can see it by Yourself. There's no way to improve it. That's why I need that cable from video guide because it doesn't need any app to start casting screen, and it displays with perfect quality on full display without resizeing. Even sound is perfect.
But for know I need to play with my friends cable. Here are photos and specs of it.
UNITEK - Mobile to HDMI Display Cable

I attached HDMI to external display, USB-male to my Poco's charger, USB-female to my Poco's usb-c cable, and lastly usb-c to my phone.
USB debugging ON, force desktop mode ON, and (because of this cable) installed EZ Cast app, and DisplayLink Presenter app. Every permission granted to them and turned off battery optimization. If adapter is plugged to charger there will be guide displayed on screen of monitor how to do it. With all this set up, just plug cable to phone and.... Sometimes one time and sometimes many times need to choose connection type popup "transfer files". Need to be patient and finally will popup notification to start casting/presentation. Please don't click on anything after plugging cable to phone, You can miss final notification. Even when it shows "x" on connection status.

I looked into the cable on the official site and it does look like it'll work. I ordered the cable and if it works, I'll declare you my best friend.
Also, the cable is cheaper on the official site, which is not usually the case. They even ship to Turkey which is never the case. It's going so well, it makes me nervous.

[Q] simultaneous slimport and otg, not possible?

I had visions of building a dock that would connect the nexus 5 both to:
1. a monitor (or tv)
2. usb hub (allowing access to keyboard, mouse, ext hd, etc.)
but...
my couple of hours of research is looking like this isn't possible, as there isn't a way to run slimport and otg hosting simultaneously. (at least my poking around the nexus 4 and nexus 7 forums has yet to bear fruit). in fact one slimport paper i found describes how pins 2, 3 and 4 would toggle between the two (usb otg and slimport). I'm not confident how such switching would be happening "on the fly".
anyone know of any "successful" threads I'm missing? or is the vision screwed from the go?
Thanks!
*BUMP*
Anyone have a copy of that service manual that leaked? I would love to know what it has to say about simultaneous USB OTG and HDMI, if anything. I know GS3/4 can do this because they have a special 11 pin USB/MHL connector but I can't find anything about USB OTG & HDMI at the same time on SlimPort....
Thanks,

From my understanding this is not possible. However, it isn't necessary either since the slimport protocol allows for simultaneous transport of data, audio, and video.
The real question isn't whether we can do both USB otg and slimport at the same time, but rather, when will a slimport dock with a USB hub be released??

Notice that it says "support conversion to DisplayPort." If you read up on DisplayPort you will understand more on the potential of slimport. I can't wait until the next generation of smart phones are released with USB 3.0 and the respective slimport iteration.
Hi,
I'm interested in connecting keyboard and display at the same time. You said "Next generation with USB 3.0". If I connect my Nexus 5 to my computer it sais "this supports USB 3.0, I just have to plug it in an usb3 port. I did, but maybe a special cable is neccessary. It seems like our Nexus supports USB3.
When I said USB 3 I was just referring to the fact that it theoretically could handle a higher bandwidth of data over slimport. I didn't realize the nexus 5 was USB 3.0 compatible. In any case the slimport dock would have to be designed to utilize the 3.0 spec and that won't happen unless the slim port standard supports USB 3. Whether or not it does already support it, or if plans exist to upgrade the standard is unclear.

You can currently use wireless display and USB otg simultaneously. No special docks required... In fact you could use wireless display and a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard and get the desired functionality without having to plug anything into the phone.

I am almost positive when I faced the same problem with the nexus 4 analogix had plans of creating a adapter that covered this, I will defiantly start researching this more once I get my N5.
.....
this article echos michaelmab88's statements, basically saying simultaneous otg-slimport can't happen "now" ("now" being last May when the article was written), but that such things should be expected "next year".
Does anyone know which slimport chip version we (nexus 5 users) have? been having trouble tracking that down.
Analogix's latest Slimport chips (the ANX7808) are, for example:
DisplayPort 1.2, MyDP 1.0, HDMI 1.4a
...compliant, and refers to things like "Seamless switching between USB and MyDP 1.0", which of course may just mean "when you swap plugs".
EDIT:
It is the ANX7808.
Here's a nice breakdown of nexus 5 components.
and..... poop.
The ANX7808's detailed product info pdf states:
"The same connector on the device can be used for USB when a SlimPort® receiver is not connected."
So I guess it's looking like, unless some clever Slimport trickery is conceived, Miracast is the "out of the box" way to go get the video data to the monitor and have simultaneous otg hosting.

pau11y,
We now know that we can't use the USB functionality whilst using SlimPort for DisplayPort video, however, can the Nexus 5 use the USB channel that should be possible over DisplayPort?
As I've replied to farmerbb in this post, I'm very keen on a solution for the Nexus 5 where I can use a wired display, keyboard and preferably mouse for a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) functionality where the office worker should only need their Nexus 5 (or other phone) to do all their work (with the work place only needing to supply the MyDP adapter, monitor, keyboard and mouse).
DisplayPort 1.2 even supports multiple displays (by MST) and that would be great if standard Android could grow to support multiple monitors and simultaneous apps in use (ala Samsung Galaxy Note 3).
I'll have to read up on MyDP 1.0 to see if it excludes any functionality of DisplayPort 1.2 (e.g. the USB channel).
Regards,
Matt
The padfone infinity kind of does that between the phone and tablet station wich are connected with a micro usb port.
The tablet station has a screen, a touch screen, speakers, light sensors, microphones, front camera, and all this works through a micro usb port.
I don't know what protocol it exactly uses, but I know it supports slimport, and usb host.
So I wonder what magic Asus used to managed to output fullhd video on the tablet, and still manage to redirect devices inputs and outputs to the phone.
When docked in the tablet, we can't use the tablet micro usb port for usb on the go.
Guys, would something like this work?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/For-LG-G3-G...448165?hash=item1a0294aea5:g:u~IAAOSw-vlVlj7V
It has all the ports needed, but I don't know how it behaves... My guess is that only one at a time would work, but I wonder what would happen if you plug the HDMI in and after that a USB keyboard for example.
Nice. I would like to see Ethernet and displayport too.
Today I would desire to stick to Samsung:

Android Mini TV Help

Hey everyone.
I need some help with an HDMI- DVI problem on my MK808B Plus
Goal:
Connect my Android Mini-TV (MK808B Plus) to a specific PC monitor.
Problem:
Monitor has a resolution of 1440x900 and no HDMI.
Story:
I have an old monitor as described above that i want to use for a small project. This project involves an android device. I chose to go with the MK808B Plus. Knowing the connections available on the monitor, i also bought a Mini HDMI to DVI-D adapter cable. I hooked it all up and the monitor detected the input but wouldn't display an image. Just random lines sometimes and then black like it was attempting to connect.
I then hooked it up to another monitor via HDMI and it worked just fine. I then plugged it into the same monitor's DVI port using the adapter and the monitor seemed to see it, and try to display it, but to no avail.
I would like any and all help i can get with this problem. If need be i can even swap the android stick for another model as i have just purchased it.
Thanks

I've used Dell Universal Dock - D6000, it mirrors the screen and charges at the same time, using the DisplayLink Desktop (Demo) App and SecondScreen to adjust the resolution, I had a few suggestions for SecondScreen such as checking the resolution after connection and creating a new profile at connection time and then being able to re-map the profile if you accidentally connect in portrait instead of landscape, but so far no reply.
Ethernet doesn't work.
Video and audio works well, but the DRM prevented me using it to watch Netflix on a TV in a hotel room whilst on a work trip, the movie or show video isn't played, but the rest of the GUI is displayed including preview videos with audio. Strangely it works fine on PC on the same Dock, shrug, I'd figure that's where you would rip the video if you were going to. I guess it's OK though as the ChromeCast doesn't have the same DRM concerns, so I should just buy one of those perhaps. (unless someone could fix this ).

Damn that's ridiculous. The normal xperia 1 sold for over 1000$ and now they introduce the Sony Xperia 1 Professional Edition with ethernet. Thats only a few drivers added to the kernel. Other smartphones for 150$ can do that, but sony has to be special about it.
Sony Xperia 1 support Ethernet with ThinkPad Hybrid USB-C dock: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/pd500180
Out of curiosity, i tested my old adapter again. For some reason it is working now, Sony probably added more drivers in a later update.

List of devices with video signal via usb.

Dear forum.
Android phones are great laptop replacement but requires a wired monitor signal for persistence. Wireless screencasting tend to lag or disconnect after a couple of hours usage with bluetooth keyboard/mouse interfering with wifi so for repeated work you need a wired monitor signal.
By setting screen width to 4-500pixels in settings/developer options and using utility apps such as taskbar pc-style, leena desktop or sentio your phone becomes a highly usable desktop computer if connected to any tv, projector or monitor with hdmi capacity. Add to this a phones superior microphone for commands and voice to text funtion in google dox. Trouble is to find a phone with verified video capacity over usb, there are several standards and lots of rumors so Im hoping we may create a reference list of known devices with known capacity of video over usb with the good help of you folks.
Main Technology standards:
The two main tech standards are MHL and Displayport. MHL was early available on sony, samsung, LG and more devices via microusb ver 2. Displayport has grown later years with Huawei/Samsung devices over usb c ver 3. The older MHL over usb ver2 have difficulties handling more than video and sound, some devices such as sony Z5 may charge battery slowly when connected on MHL to external usb power but no guarantees. MHL over usb ver 2 have no capacity for keyboard/mouse or ethernet via usb, these must be connected via bluetooth.
Later usb ver 3 standard have capacity of video, sound, power and data, these devices can be connected to a hub with hdmi, keyboard, mouse, ethernet and still charge battery. There is plenty more to add about technology but lets keep to most basic info and focus on a list of devices with video signal over usb as I have not been able finding a complete list anywhere.
- There is also extra hardware available such as Displaylink which requires an app and displaylink chipped hubs but there is little information available so hopefully someone chips in with better info and proof of concept.
- There is windows phones with hdmi capability but I dont dare to mention so please contribute.
- Apple phones may have hdmi capability but there seem to be much rumors and guesswork without exact knowledge so please chip in if you have knowledge on this part.
- Several names/words are used referencing the function of connecting phone to external monitor. Samsung referencing as "Dex", Huawei "desktop mode", windows continuum, wired screencast, MHL, displayport, hdmi over usb,
All help completing the list is higly appreciated, please see this list as a suggestion this far while being completed/updated, the aim is to have a complete reference list of computer capable devices using the collective knowledge in this forum.
List of devices :

[2022] Pixel 2 video output (MHL cable etc.?)

So in the year of Christ 2022, is there still any sort of way to output video on a Pixel 2?
Story goes so that I have one with a completely busted screen, that does not register anything at all, let alone show anything. Glass broken, touch screen broked. I read there's some sort of a solution, but it requires an app to be downloaded which obviously is impossible in this case.
Is there any solution besides getting this piece of junk fixed?
I was able to use USB adapter to HDMI (not DisplayPort over USB-C alt mode, but older DisplayLink technology over USB 2, plus adapter to USB-C, normally used for adding extra monitors to laptops etc), but it required a DisplayLink app, not sure if it downloaded it automatically or not but I typically install apps from Google App Store remotely, on a PC browser (and select my phone as the target). A mouse should also work with Android but you'll need USB hub, or a bluetooth mouse, so yes in theory it will work but not for DRM content like Netflix, and not sure about booting up, perhaps you can blidnly use external keyboard for PIN or password.
Edit: USB docks for laptops, with HDMI and more USB ports, also use the DisplayLink technology and may be worth a shot
