How To Guide Google GCam port for the Samsung Galaxy A32 5G - Samsung Galaxy A32 5G

So that others will benefit (given I tested almost a dozen Google GCam APK ports before I found an APK which finally worked)...
This post explains how to install the Penguin Google GCam port on my new Samsung Galaxy A32 5G (Model SM-A326U).
Installing the Penguin Google GCam Port on the Samsung Galaxy A32 5G

So that others will benefit there is a Wichaya GCam camera port that also works on my Samsung Galaxy A32 5G (Model SM-A326U).
Much to my surprise I was able to install BOTH the Wichaya and Penguin ports on the Samsung Galaxy A32 5G at the same time.
Unlike the Penguin port, this Wichaya GCam port has completely different controls which are more like the original Google Camera app I think.
On the bottom of the screen is a slider for Portrait, Photo, Video, & Transcribe. Just above that there is a balance plus/minus slider in the bottom middle
At the top left is a settings gear with Night mode, Flash, Face Enhance, Timer, and Storage settings.
At top center is a storage icon telling you how much space and how many pictures you can take (i.e., ":You can take 10590 photos"). And the flash icon (on/off/auto) is at the top right.
Here is what I did to install it.
Download GCam for Samsung Galaxy A32 (4G & 5G)
That gives you two choices + a config file
Download GCam for Samsung Galaxy A32 (4G & 5G) (Camera_Go_1.8.3_Wichaya.apk) [Recommended]

sam-a32.xml
The second link above wouldn't install (and the config file is apparently for that version, so the only download that worked was the first one in that list above.
The GCam_5.200604.2138build-7.3.021.apk said "App not installed" when I tried to install it. But the Camera_Go_1.8.3_Wichaya.apk said "App installed" and it worked alongside the Penguin GCam port.
In case you need a second source, I found another Wichaya build which I document below for others to benefit from the effort (where one link failed but the other worked).
As always, it goes without saying I uninstalled all GCam apps before running any tests.

To be abundantly clear there are many supposed Google GCam ports for the Samsung Galaxy A32 5G which do NOT work.
Here are just two of many failed attempts, which (if you can get to work then you should let us know what you did differently because I failed today with both).
In all cases I uninstalled the previous GCam port (which goes without saying) before running any of the tests.
Download Google Camera and 7.4 For Samsung Phones
Search for the words "Galaxy A32 / 5G" & click that link which takes you to "Google Camera for Galaxy A32 / 5G – GCam Download"
Look for the green button saying "BSG GCAM 8.1" and click on that link.
That takes you to a page listed as "BSG GCam 8.1" which has a "Download" button at the bottom which you can click on.
The result will be a MGC_8.1.101_A9_PV0g.apkfile of the following hash value.
Name: MGC_8.1.101_A9_PV0g.apk
Size: 104817990 bytes (99 MiB)
SHA256: 38792281D6D67F8BE8D376A60EABC7CBAC4273654982C8D650D6F139723AC723
This file "installed" on my Samsung Galaxy A32 5G but nothing worked. It was just black when I ran the app.
Another failed attempt I can document is this one.
Download Google Camera for Samsung Galaxy A32, A52, A72 | GCam APK
Download Google Camera 7.3.018 APK [Recommended]
First you get this countdown "Wait 30 seconds on "droid file host"
Invariably the download fails with this pink error message "Invalid File Type (GCam_7.3.018_Urnyx05-v2.1_Wichaya_V2.5 (1).apk)!"
Many more than just these two failed but I document these two mainly to underscore the point that if a web site "says" it contains the right download for your phone, it may either not work when you try to install it or it may be the right version but it may not download.
YMMV

In addition I recommend the following cameras overall, since each has a certain nugget of value that differentiates it from others.
Penguin GCam port
Wichaya GCam port
The default Samsung Camera app (com.sec.android.app.camera)
Open Camera (has great time delay options)
Simple Camera (has the best flash control)
Each has their own advantages and disadvantages which can't be summarized accurately in just a sentence like I am trying to do below - but here's my suggestion of what handful of camera apps I'd recommend for others with the Galaxy A32 5G that I own.
Penguin moved the main controls AWAY from the bottom of the screen but doesn't do all the options of GCam.
Wichaya kept the main controls at the bottom but also has more of the original GCam options.
The default Samsung Camera has many of the options of the original GCam app.
Mark Harman's Open Camera has the best control of automatic timed snapshots.
Simple Camera is the only camera app I've ever seen which does the flash settings the way they should be done (infinite loop taps).

First of all, I like to thank you very much for this post. I have on the Samsung a32 5G for about 1 week now, it has been trying numerous Gcam APK files in efforts to get a functioning Google camera onto my Samsung a32 G.
I also own a pixel so I know exactly how great the Google camera is. The main issue that I'm having is I'm unable to find any be gcam that are functioning well and also include Google's night sight/astrophotography mode. I dont need Astrophotoghy, but LOVE night sight. Its is truely amazing. Would you have any idea as which one, if any, would enable the HDR+/Night Sight included into the GCAM. From my research, it seems i would need GCAM later than 6.1 for the night sight to be present. Thank you very much for your help in these matters.

I so so very appreciate you writing this up! I too tried numerous Gcam apks only to have crashes + black screens galore.

It's good you have a Pixel as I do not so I don't know exactly what the "normal" GCam GUI looks like.
What I can tell you is that I have on my homescreen two ports (PenguinGCam & WichayaGCam).
Checking App Info, the PenguinGCAM is version 5.1 & the WichayaGCam is version 1.8.332394960.
Looking at each for "night sight", I don't see it in the Penguin GUI but if I look in the Wichaya GUI, I see "Night mode" when I press the topleft settings gear icon.
There is no mention of "Astrophotography" but to test the night mode for you, I just switched the "Night mode" switch from its off default to on, and a message came up saying "Night mode doesn't work with the flash" (which is to be expected).
The settings icon for "Night mode" went from a "halfmoon-with-a-crosshatch" to a "halfmoon" icon and the large round "Photo" button on the bottom of the Wichaya GCam GUI also now shows a blue half moon (instead of just a gray round button).
Just before I press the button to take a picture it says at the top "Night mode is on. Hold your camera still until the photo is finished."
And now, when I press that Wichaya GCam GUI blue moon button it tells me "Hold your camera still" and then "Almost done..." and then it snaps the picture.
Based on that one test alone I'd say the most likely answer to your question is that the Wichaya GCam port has (at least some of) what you ask for but I would ask others to confirm my observation so we always benefit from each of us helping the rest.

To answer/summarize some of these questions, night sight is the "night mode" which was quite revolutionary when it was first implemented by Gcam when it came out 2.5 years ago:
Google's Night Sight is Blowing Minds: Shoot Photos in Near Darkness
Google's new Pixel 3 and 3XL smartphones are packed with new AI camera features, including one called Night Sight that lets you shoot natural-looking
petapixel.com
Since then, similar modes have been implemented by Samsung and Apple and they are now commonly found among the major phone manufacturers.
The astronomy mode is more advanced and not on either of these Gcam versions. This mode allowed for exactly what the name implies, taking great photos of night skies.
Regarding the Gcam mods, some history:
Gcam v5 mods brought us portrait mode, when that was still a new thing. When Samsung was using Exynos vs. Qualcomm CPUs, most of the modded Gcams would work on Qualcomm but very few would work on the Exynos. The ones that did were usually v5 as they were more compatible.
Gcam v6 was when night mode was introduced.
Gcam v7 was when Astronomy mode first appeared. These required Android 9 or above.
The version numbering of the Wichaya gcam discussed in this thread doesn't follow the listing above as it is based on Google Cam Go, a lightweight version of the original Gcams, just like Android Go is for lesser powered Android phones internationally.
https://www.androidsage.com/2020/10/09/download-gcam-go-apk-with-night-mode/ describes the version found here by @GalaxyA325G
The Gcam Go's originally did not have nightsight, but it was introduced in v1.8 in fall of 2020.
As you probably know, most of the major ports can be found in this depository:
Google Camera Ports Download
Modified Google Camera ports by BSG, Arnova8G2, ivanich, and others. Download hub for GCam ports.
www.celsoazevedo.com
But most of these won't work on the A32. Most all of those are developed for Qualcomm phones.

One more thing regarding installation, as I gathered a lot of experience looking at different GCams for my S9.
The package name of these apps is what determines if they can be installed simultaneously.
Many of these ports keep the same package name as each other.
The basic one is com.google.android.GoogleCamera. Penguincam uses this.
Another I've seen commonly is org.codeaurora.snapcam.
The Wichaya cam's package id is com.google.android.apps.cameralite
So when trying to install another cam app, if it has the same package name, installation will not work.
Sometimes the android installer will detect the other port, and ask if you want to "upgrade" it. It won't be able to though, unless it's the same author and a higher version. That install will fail.
Other times, oddly enough, it won't detect that another app already exists with the same package name and will try to install it. This ends with an "app not installed" error.
You can sort of get around this and install multiple GCam ports of the same package name by using an app cloner utility, which renames the package. This can sometimes introduce other errors though.

Thanks for pointing out that a different package name is what allows two GCam ports to coexist.
I use a "package manager" to find the package name where the best package manager for that purpose that I've ever seen is this one:
App Manager - Android package manager
A full-featured open source package manager for android.
App Manager began by merging the features of App_packages Info (formerly Application Info), ClassyShark3xodus, Activity Launcher and Watt into a single app with material design and dark mode to give a modern look and feel.
The list of features is large so I'll let you look it up on F-Droid or GitHub for more details.
If anyone can find a better free open source Android package manager, let me know but I doubt there is anything better out there.

This is good information where my package manager reported results for my four camera apps concur with yours.
PenguinGCam com.google.android.GoogleCamera Version v5.1 (20210330)
WichayaGCam (Camera Go) com.google.android.apps.cameralite Version 1.8.332394960_release (7311)
SamsungCam (Camera) com.sec.android.app.camera Version 11.0.11.43 (1101143100)

Thanks for clarifying why the Wichaya GCam APK port is version 1.x while the Penguin GCam APK port is version 5.x and yet the Wichaya GCam APK port has (at least portions of the Google GCam) "modern" features like "night mode" (somewhat aka "night sight").

The critical question to answer for the A32 5G is what is the "most modern" (or "closest possible port") of the latest GCam functionality?
I do NOT know the answer to that question (I only know that I got two ports to work, Wichaya & Penguin).
However, together, if we try out the various GCam ports, perhaps we can arrive at that answer of which work with the Samsung Galaxy A32 5G.

I agree completely, what is the most modern gcam you can that we can use for 832 5G is the most important question. Thank you waylo for the full explanation of night sight and also astrophotography. I currently own a pixel 3A XL. The camera hardware for the pixel 3A XL I believe is actually not that amazing compareed to that of the Samsung a32 5G. It does hav OIS which i am sure helps with nightshot. The feature that actually sets the Google camera apart, is the app that gcam for pixel. With his HDR plus processing, it's taking multiple images and combining together to make one amazing image, and for night sight, it is something which I have never seen before. I think the pics out of the samsaung a32 5g prior to dusk are very good, and especially so when considering this an entry level phone. I personally am ok with the other shortcomings too, the 720 display, one speaker. If we can only get the night sight feature working on here, that would be just amazing. Thank you very much for keeping this an informative post. Hopefully one of us will come across a working night sight gcam for the a32 5g.

I think many issues are related to lack of camera2api support

GCAM doesn't work on the A32 for 2 different reasons
1) GCAM ports basically don't work with Mediatek processores. A32 uses A Mediatek processors (as opposed to snapdragon)
2) The magic in GCAM is "HDR+" being enabled. HDR+ is where their stacking and noise reduction and DR processing comes together...........and also needs Camera2API enabled. With the A32, Camera2API is not enabled. Without HDR+ there is basically no difference vs the stock app.
As far as I know, Wichaya & Penguin only outputs 3.7MP images at max. At least the variant I have tested and I am not sure if the images are any better than stock, and if so...why.

I hear you. I guess it's just processing and focussing changes that make the improvements then, rather than raw pixel density.

I don't know if it's possible to "enable" camera2api support, but I just noticed while researching GPS Location Spoofing that maybe Magisk can enable camera2api support?
The description of Magisk says "there are modules to enable camera2api", which, if that's even possible on the Samsung Galaxy A32 5G, that would be wonderful.
However, the caveat may be this sentence in the description for Magisk, which may mean it's not for the faint of heart.
Installing Magisk requires you to have a custom recovery for which your phone needs to have an unlocked bootloader.

I concur. I just posted my results in this post moments ago.

Can you guys test this GCam Go?
CameraGo_2.5_Greatness_Special-2 (Greatness, 2021-09-24, GCam Go)
This was extracted from a Jio device and actually has HDR working (neither Wichaya's GCam Go nor Penguin's GCam does), which is what makes GCam good.
Quality won't be as good as regular GCam though, but if it works, it might be better than the stock camera app.

GLOBAL USERS, LATEST NEWS: WORKING GCAM3 with FRONT CAM and TIME LAPSE!
This thread was created to achieve, at first, two goals:
Organize useful information on the main topic about GCAM for GL/CN users and CONSTANTLY UPDATE IT;
Direct new users to a "solution" regarding GCAM on Global/China variants;
MY SPECS:
Phone: Redmi Note 5 Pro 64GB/4GB (CN and came with GLOBAL ROM installed)
ROM: Havoc Mod ROM (Android 9.0/Pie)
Understand the "problem" between the Indian vs Global/CN variants:
Indian variant uses Sony sensors on both front and rear cameras. So modders didn't had too much trouble porting GCAM for them;
GLOBAL/CN variants have the Samsung S5K2L7 sensor (same sensor used in RN6 Pro) on the rear, and on the front camera we have a Omnivision sensor (here lies the problem).
Know that: THERE'S NO WAY OF MAKING GCAM WORK ON ANDROID PIE WITHOUT A PATCH!
MAGISK METHOD NOTE:
UPDATE: There might be a light for your, warrior!
As gracefully explained by our fellow Desmanto, there are some steps you can take in order to make the Magisk modules work.
If it helps you on your lonely journey, please hit the Thanks button on his response. I'll only link his explanation.
I noticed that installing a PATCH through it isn't a guarantee of success.
Even when I installed AdAway on my phone, magisk took a while to finally grant root access to it... So it means it's a shot in the dark.
Once I was able to install the RN5 Camera Patch v1.035a(Pie 9.0).zip by nhappyman and make it properly work. But only once!
As pointed out by the user misiek735:
"If you install everything and you choose 4k with eis enabled in gcam 5.1 settings
and it does not work (camera error) then it means that patch is not working
at all and you make somewhere during the instalation proces a mistake."Since the process of installing the patch, rebooting, checking if the patch was installed successfully, removing it, rebooting, installing again...
isn't as pretty as I'd like, I advise you all to take the TWRP route.
TWRP ROUTE: THE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE ROAD:
Right, this is where the fun begins!
First of all, my rig consists of two GCAM:
Pixel 3 (For anything related to rear camera: Normal, Portrait, Nightsight and SlowMo) - MGC_6.1.021_BSG_Arnova-based_v.1.3d_TInNeun_2
Pixel 2 (Front Camera; Front Portrait Mode) - GoogleCamera-5.1.018.177624777-Urnyx05Mod
Patch used: RN5 Camera Patch TWRP v1.035a (Pie_9.0).zip (Reading through threads, I've came to the conclusion this one is guaranteed to work. New versions are out there to be tested. Please share your results)
With these guys I can do pretty everything* (passing the "misiek735 test" pointed out earlier):
SlowMo: [email protected] or [email protected]

UPDATE: 2019/04/30
LATEST NEWS: WE HAVE A WORKING GCAM3!
Yesterday was release a brand new version for us GLOBAL users! It's a GCAM3 (Pixel 3 Camera App) with a working front camera!
Search for the APK on the Telegram Group gcamWhyred!
Look for:
Gcam 6.2.024 Advanced V2.1.beta._190429.1903.apk
In order to make the front camera work and use a lag-free app, you must use these settings presented on the attachments!
Or click here and check my shared Google Photos gallery.
Note:
I'm currently using the TWRP v1.035a patch
There's a new version called RN5 Camera Patch v2.034a that might fix the issues I'm going to talk about next, but I didn't test it yet (please, you can provide feedback here if you will), so bear with me.
Known Issues (So far):
If you zoom (use the digital zoom prior to the shot), it'll FC the app and a low resolution (probably the image in the buffer) will be saved in your gallery. (Zoomed shots on the front camera work!) Just set "Using Sabre" OFF and will be good to go! (From what I've understood this an algorithm to enhance zoomed pictures)
Occurred to me once, but you might get an black picture every now and never.
While recording something the "viewfinder" might show a worst image than the one which is actually being recorded.
Night Sight is laggy! It'll work as intended but you'll experience it's 1/3s shutter speed. Seems like it's already collecting data about the scenario prior to the shot.
UPDATE: 2019/05/14
Latest News: We have a working GCAM v6.2.030 (i.e. Time Lapse capable)
Today was shared on gcamWhyred telegram group a GCAM3 with the new time lapse.
Look for:
Gcam_6.2.030_Advanced_V2.1beta6.190512.1059.apk - Link for those who avoids Telegram (not posted by me)
In order to make the front camera work and use a lag-free app, you must:
Enable advanced mode.
Use these settings for the front camera and disable Sabre (also use RAW10 on RAW format, if I'm not wrong this will remove the lag on the rear camera).
The "Disabled Google Photo" actually sets it as default gallery (probably a bug)
In advanced settings, if you try to use the dark theme, it won't work. (Again, there's a reason why it still called "beta")

A small correction here. The Global/CN variant (RN5 AI) doesn't have Sony IMX486 sensor on the rear camera. Instead, it sports Samsung S5K2L7 sensor (same sensor used in RN6 Pro) with effective pixel size of 1.4 μm.

Cheers!
*Im using PE 9.0

Hm... That's odd, I've just tested with my boss and the WhatsApp Video Call was good enough. I don't know if it was supposed to have less delay (though, to me, was acceptable), but unfortunately I'm not aware of any fixes.

Yes! I'm pretty sure that dirty flashing the same ROM (and version) will bring everything back to what it was.
Best Gcam for v2.025a patch and 9.0 Resurrection Remix ?
Also uploading v2.025a Magisk (no TWRP Version) patch for MIUI 10 and Pie 9.0 Custom

No, I'm on Havoc OS Mod.
Is PE camera2api enabled by default? Check with the developer? Maybe?
Let me ask you something else: Why did you end up on PE? I went through the RN5 forum before buying my phone, and even though PE looked fancy and awesome, HavocOS seemed to provide more customization.

Oh i see now why at havoc the whatsapp bug does not occur, i looked at their changelog, one line caught my eye.. its the "Force HAL1 package in some app", i think that may be the case, the devs of Havoc is aware of this bug i think, so whatsapp must be one of the app that being forced to use HAL1. (HAL3 is camera2api right?)
Hmmm, its more like personal taste i think I kinda like a minimal rom with minimal costumization.. and PE is the one for me, it really gives me the taste of Pixel phone
Have anyone tried a TWRP patch newer than version 1.035a?
If so, what's new? Any changelogs?

Hello everyone!
I decided to make a thread, where we can discuss the upcoming update for our lovely device Galaxy S9+. Maybe it's too early for this discussion, or not? I hope the moderators don't mind... I'm very excited about the update and a little bit frustrated that we will not get the beta first. I may upgrade to Note 10+, but I'm not yet sure, because I love too much my S9+ - the design, the screen, feels like everything is perfect though. Only miss the wide-angle camera

Breaking: Samsung Galaxy S9 Android 10 update released!
Samsung has released the Android 10 update for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. The update is rolling out in Germany at the moment for those who are on Android Pie. Yes, the final build of Android 10 is yet to be released for those who are on the One UI 2.0 beta, though that is probably going to change soon.

From where to download the stock firmware
I see people still asking from where to download it, since @sammobile[/user] need premium acc for faster download. There are a few alternatives that are very easy to use and I thought everyone Samsung fan knows them but it seems I was wrong. Gonna share them here.
1. Updato.com
This is for people who don't want to install any additional software. However, seems full of ads. If that doesn't bother you, use it.
2. SamFirm 0.3.6
It's deprecated but still working though.
3. Frija
This is the most updated with very nice interface. I would recommend it.

Notes, related to the beta builds:
1. I think it was a mention somewhere but will write it here also. Both files are in .bin format. You need to rename them in update .zip so you can flash them through stock recovery.
2. You can't flash it directly if you are rooted, need to be completely sock - this includes the stock recovery. Also, you should be on this firmware G965FXXU7CSK1/G965FOXM7CSJ5/G965FXXU7CSJ5/G965FXXU7CSK1. When new beta's come out you will need to flash them as the way they came out, like beta1->beta2 and etc.
3. The USA and Korean builds are not compatible with the rest models. Be careful what you flash on your device. By the tip to remove them to not lead to confusion, I will separate them below in the spoiler. The authors of the files can feel free to make a new thread about the specific device.

Notes, related to Android 10:
You can't install any more custom fonts on Android 10 unless you are rooted.
Check the Galaxy store for your favorite font. If it's there you can buy it and use it.
Swift Installer, Substratum doesn't work anymore on S9/ S9+ like before.
You need will the Synergy. However for me isn't working at all, so basically I can't use any substratum theme or mod. On the other hand Hex Installer works very well and I will recommend it.
Blocking ads with DNS still working.
Technically, there is no reason to not be able to receive OTA, after flashing stable DBT version with Odin. Just make sure you don't use CSC (use HOME_CSC instead) file to wipe everything and break something with your current CSC. I personally flashed CSC file by mistake, my CSC didn't change it but now I can't receive OTA. No big deal for me will flash it manually when there is a new update.
OTA files won't wipe anything. Some user reports that his phone is wiped after OTA, but this usually is impossible. A good idea is always to make a backup with Smart Switch before any procedure of this kind.

Yes, ROOT is possible on Android 10. Check THIS thread to see the steps for rooting.
I'll stick with my s9+ Exynos Oreo bc it runs perfectly. Smooth. No issues. Just an amazing reliable phone with idan GCam 3.5. What could be so good with android 10 that it's worth upgrading?

I regret having gone on foot
The battery drains very fast, 4 hours of SOT when I go for a 20% battery.
The front camera for some reason overexposes the photos, does not take them as in the preview
I use Gcam, if with that software it is possible to take incredible photos having this fabulous lens, I do not understand how it is possible that Samsung does not take advantage of it by developing a good camera application
I haven't seen anything in Android 10 that would make me want to update as soon as possible. What are you looking forward to? TBH I'd be happy in Oreo lol
lol guys, didn't expect those answers, to be honest I personally, like to stay up to date, trying new stuff, new features. I really enjoyed the android 9 update with OneUI. At the moment, I don't really remember what we can expect in Android 10. But probably would have some nice features. I just hope the battery life to not be worst than now.
Actually we already have some stuff, like the dark mode. So there's wont be much in Android 10 I guess for us. I am more curious what OneUI 2.0 will be. Probably not much changes in visual, but will come with more extras and options for personalizations I think.
I also have UK sim card, so I probably will try to join in the beta program when it's open.
PS
So, It's kinda official.
Samsung has OFFICIALLY started Q Beta builds. I 100% expect a beta program in the next 2 weeks, as

Speed. There's evidence for better performance on android 10 compared to 9 or 8
I think it will be a sad day when Android 10 comes to the S9+ because it means the end of support from Samsung. Only 2 years of firmware updates is pathetic especially for a flagship phone Samsung should be more like apple and look after their customers better.
Agreed with you. I feel sad about S8 and Note 8. Such awesome flagships to be left without support...
In theory, the S9/S9+ line had a better chance of getting an extra year of support because of Treble. We all had hoped that with Treble, Samsung would update their phones faster and for more time. But, doesn't seem like Samsung's announced anything that would change what they've been doing up to now. Seems like we'll only be getting 2 years of updates for this phone too. BUT, the slight 1% possibility is still there that we may go beyond that.
My Pixel 2 was update to Android 10. It's more smoothly and the battery life is increased. I feel it!
When first try android 10 on my pixel, Oh man..
How can be my pixel 2 (2017) is more better than my S9+ (2018) even it's 1 years old than the S9+.. LOL
Better in camera, battery life, background apps management, notification management, etc

Well, the answer of why it is better in these aspects only lies in the fact that they are Google's own devices and therefore its software is optimized to the maximum for that team
Android is for the Pixel what is ios for the iphone

Hi brandox,
Yeah, Agreed with you..
But, it's android and it's open sources right?
I think samsung is able to make it more smooth like on pixel devices, it might be they just push more stuff to get different of their devices, and still finding how to make it smooth.
I really like my s9+ the hands on, design, display, except the UI and UX..
It will be better, if they just put an vanilla android, focus to just a camera software, tweaking background task, and security.
just my 2cents..
Have a nice day!

Yep, it's open source. The version given to manufacturers is alone basic without many optimizations, it is already in the hands of the manufacturer what make to do with that system (They could do a better job, but since developers don't get paid enough).
If you're right. Samsung should take care of adjusting only really important applications.
To be fair, if you install AOSP on any Samsung device it will run like butter. It's just that Samsung likes to add too much stuff on their skins (some good, some bad)
Good news guys!
Samsung also started testing Android 10 for Galaxy S9/S9+! The firmware version is G960FXXU7DSI3 and G965FXXU7DSI3. Of course, first in the line will be S10, but that's a good sign, we won't wait much for it <3
Well, it seems the Korean company is not sitting still here either. As the guys at GalaxyClub now confirm, both the Galaxy S9 and S9+ are currently being tested with Google’s latest. Firmware versions G960FXXU7DSI3 and G965FXXU7DSI3 are based on Android 10, as evidenced by the letter ‘D’ which represents the next Android version. Current Android 9-based firmware have a ‘C’ in that same position, after all.
Of course, the Galaxy S9 will simply not be the first Samsung device to get the upgrade. The Galaxy S10 and Note 10 will be upgraded first, logically. We do expect their Android 10 beta to start soon, but that program will need to finish before anything else happens. And even after all that, there is a good chance the Galaxy S9 will first have to go through a beta test of its own, just like the Galaxy S8 did last year before widely receiving Android Pie.

Bought the S9+ with Android Oreo. Was working all fine until some idiot at google decided to link the notification badge count to the notification bar - so from that point, whenever I was swiping the notification in the bar, the unread badge count would go away. A temporary workaround was Nova Launcher + TeslaUnread but even that stopped working correctly at some point a few months ago.
(here is a link that describes the situation : https://forums.androidcentral.com/s...886468-notifications-unread-badge-counts.html )
So my question is: can someone who tested Android 10 on any other device or beta stages comment whether the behaviour stays the same as on Android 9? Thanks.

Install Gcam on Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S? What's in it for me?

Hi fellas,
I recently bought a Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S, and aside from the fact that it's still running Android 10 over MIUI 12.0.3.0 (Global / EU since I'm in France) when everybody else and their cousin seems to have switched to Android 11 already, everything's peachy with the phone.
My question is borne more out of curiosity than necessity: How better would my photos be if I installed Gcam (Google Camera), rather than keep on using OpenCamera or the Xiaomi app the phone ships with? Would I really see an improvement in the way the Gcam software treats images?
If you think I'd get to gain from the install, then a second question comes to mind: How to install the config file that comes with most of the builds I've found here and there? Last time I installed Gcam on the phone, the config file came separately, and however hard I tried to follow instructions, I never managed to load the config file, so I ditched the app altogether. Patient, I am not for that kind of thing, I'll confess.
So, what gives?

gcam use some algorithm to enhance photos to high dynamic range (HDR). you may get better image if you use proper gcam made for your phone.
secondly, config file can be loaded in settings of most gcam. you can use youtube or any tutorial to see how to load configs.
Thanks for your reply, Bhanu. It was my understanding that what Gcam does, mostly, is to apply some sort of software "magic" to what the sensors record, and in this respect, the 48MP main sensor on the Note 9S isn't too shabby, so I'd really like to give it a try, but as I said in my OP, every time I did what was advised in the tutorials I read, i.e. press somewhere in the camera interface (left of the capture button), I always got the same "no config file to load" message, although I had a config file waiting to be installed, one that I had downloaded along with the Gcam .apk file, so I was wondering if there were APKs that already contained said config file, and if so, where can I find them?
For example, this article points at two different builds based on Gcam 8, but it doesn't mention where to find the config file that goes with either one of them.
hi, i like the way you replied,
about gcam i have found v7.4 its recommended to use v7 because they are relatively stable.

just open app and go to settings and developer settings and disable use google photo to use it.
or simply install google photos to make this version work.

Question Working Gcam for the A53

Just picked up this phone, so far I like it, seems a bit laggy, but I'm looking for a working Gcam version. I found a few but one is a Go version and the 2nd I can only get video working. Any help would be appreciated
It's like 99% + a proper gcam will not work for this device. I don't own this device but have been looking if RAW is capable on this device at all with 3rd party apps. Apparently this is a NO. When RAW is not available at all, GCAM's core software does not work...which is HDR+ mode. It's really lame because the camera sensor , processor/processing and memory is more than adequate.
I think gcam is limited to what is already existed. I had hoped it could be a workaround on the RAW issue, it couldn't engage the cameras on mine.
Hey there people, a couple of weeks ago I've acquired an A53 because of it's camera capability, while researching I found out this phone doesn't have RAW format support, which is a shame acknowledging this phone can shoot up to 10 seconds of image! So I decided to get my hands dirty and mod the camera libraries and so a Google Camera for it. I might release the modules and the Google Camera by this Saturday. I'd be also doing a Q&A, and you're invited! (I'll be talking about my work over 64MP mode, spoiler alert, I've been able to expose the resolution size for 3rd party camera apps, but I decided I won't be release with the 64MP mode until I'm able to access 64MP mode without root.)
I'm eagerly waiting to show you all my W.I.P works and much more!
Attaching a video showing how GCam 8.4.300 behaves.
Hey there, I was able to make a stable GCam 8.4.300, refer to my XDA thread!
Interesting !
Sadly we have to Root the phone to use gcam
Thanks for your work, i'll follow tour project closely

I'm not particularly interested by 64MP mode as I'm not impressed by the differences from a quality perspective (using Samsung app)
But I'm interested by a working version of gcam cause I don't like Samsung camera app and also the photo processing (far better when I disable the HDR mode)
So if your version of gcam can be installed without unlocking bootloader I'm in !
But if I understand correctly that's not possible currently ? Am I right ?
Thanks for your work !

Yes, sadly you can't use gcam without root, I saw Samsung's api has a RAW picture format so I have been tried these past weeks using Samsung's API RAW picture format instead of Android's, unfortunately no progress was achieved so far
That's very cool. Really looking forward to trying this out on my phone with LineageOS GSI and Magisk. There, the difference in quality to the default cam will be mindblowing I assume.

I don't think Gcam is ever going to work unless Samsung enables RAW support (or someone finds a way to enable it) on the A53.
How do I enable GCam if I have ROOT?
Considering this device through local carrier because it's one of few with expandable memory. They're also suggesting Motorola Edge.. I've been out of the loop on tech side of things for years now, so I naturally came here to learn what I can about them. Is A53 5G a solid choice?

Question [Request?] Stock Camera apk question

Hey there,
to keep it short, I'd possibly need the camera apk from a stock ROM (not sure I'm able to extract it, but pointers would be fine, too).
As far as I was aware, I always took the Google app as universal, providing Pixel exclusive features to a Pixel phone.
Having searched a bit, a lot of websites handle naming these apps quite loosely, resulting in conflicting results. So conflicting even, you wouldn't know whether or not there is a distinct camera on Pixels. (Even more so, that you would question the necessity of ports.)
Anyway, as I'm no longer using stock (possibly GrapheneOS with GXP enabled), I would need the apk, if it isn't just the downloadable Google Camera Google you can get on any phone (which I could get via Aurora Store).
I'd appreciate the help.
Try some GCam port: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/

Would there be any need? I guess for additional settings, right?
I rather take the official Pixel cam, as it would be Google updating it and it should be the baseline for mods, shouldn't it?
And while I appreciate the modders' work, I'd like to stick with the unmodded one for now.
The stock Pixel cam IS a different app than the "Google Camera" on the Play Store, isn't it?
That is what I don't know for certain. Searching the internet yields no further clarification, as it's flooded with tutorials for ports and no sign of anyone actually distinguishing between the two, if even applicable.
IF it is a different app, I'll probably look into extracting it from OTAs, as I have no idea where to look otherwise.
Yeah, modded Gcam port is based on Google Camera by Google.
Stock "Pixel cam" is Google Camera.
Differences:
manual updates
slightly slower updates than official one (by Google)
additional settings
