Galaxy s6 throttling as hell

Since I bought my gs6 I have noticed the soc temp heat up very quickly and couse a massive throttling of the gpu above all ...so that performances go down of 50% expecially when running antutu ...is that normal or should i send back my phone to warranty

every CPU throttles, the S810 throttles even more, they have to, and don't run benchmarks, they won't do you any good, if in day to day usage the phone heats up it's normal, my S6 do heat up but i never noticed throttling, i never noticed lag when it becomes hot.....try to use your phone normally without ****ty benchmarks...

Yes I know benchmarks are quite worthless ..but it's not just about that..i notice this even while gaming ,browsing and even doing light stuff ..its however pretty much annoying

i don't play games that much, i only play couple of games like boom beach, i don't know if this game considered heavy or light, but if i play it for about half an hour the phone heats up a bit but it doesn't lag at all....in light usage usually it doesn't heat up, but even if it heats up i never notice lag, the phone stutters in some places but no lag.....

Hi,
Please install the app called CPU-Z to check your device temperature. Also keep in mind that depending on where you live, it's easier to heat up than on other regions, as the external temperature does make a difference.
To throttle it needs to get very hot. Check if you have Mobile Data and Location turned on when not needed, and specially Mobile data when you're out of range, they consume lots of power and heats the device up considerably. Also, Wifi if not connected will keep searching for somewhere to connect and consequently will use your device power and heat up.
Another thing to keep an eye on is background apps and the external temperature as mentioned before. On S4 I faced a serious battery drain and overheat problem due to background apps not letting it sleep.

The temps get up to 80 degrees celsius when under really heavy usage ..of course this temp refers to cpu not to battery that stays always around 33 and 37 degrees
P.s i dont notice lag either. .even when performance decrease its good enough..i was only qondering wether it is normal or not

You may have a lemon S6. Return your S6 to Samsung for warranty replacement.

Hi,
80 degrees Celsius seems a bit high to me, like mentioned I'd check with Samsung if this device has a defective thermal dissipation.

I noticed that during the benchmark it got to the 80 degrees range, but it lasted a few seconds, if your device get to 80 degrees and stay at it, maybe it isn't dissipating hear correctly.

OK then there must be a problem with my device....I actually donno what other things could couse this abnormal heat but a production defeat....maybe the weather? ? I live in italy and here is 34 degrees..but i doubt it

Hmmm temp of the device cant be lower than your temp of ambient. Ill post screenshot pf mine after some minutes.i live in kosovo and temp here is aroud 33 today

Here is mine... dont forget bcoze case and screenprotector keeps your phone warmer. I dont use any. I use my phone naked

80 sounds crazy not a bit high

80 its high but device can reach that temp sometimes. Example if you play and fast charge same time it can get that temp. And not to forget outside real temp. Here its so hot... up to 40degrees

80 degrees is not as extremely as you might think. People tend to think its too crazy or high because they never would have seen it and the most times they check their cpu temps on CPU-Z it will be hovering around 40-50 degrees. The best way to check your temps in S6 is to open CPU-Z/AIDA64, have it minimised in a smaller window and drag it to the very corner of one side, while this is running, open a game like dead trigger/skyforce and notice the temps. Also, do the same while performing an antutu test. Yes, the scores will be greatly reduced and the temps will be a tiny bit higher because of this smaller window running simultaneously, but you can compare your temps pretty easily. Also, try to be present in a ambient temp of 26 degrees rather than upwards of 30 for a fair comparison with fellow users. According to me, 80 comes up at times but it lasts only for seconds (S6 starts throttling exactly at 80 and beyond that the core clocks gets aggressive reductions) but it will never be constand even while running a game. Mine CPU idles @35 degrees with ambient temp being 26-30.
My temps : (All temps in Celsius)
Ambient temperature 26 - 30 degrees :
Battery temp : 25-30 degrees
Idle : 32-35 degrees
Slight tasks (Whatsapp, checking notifications) : 37-39 degrees
Multiple applications : 38-43 degrees
Game - hungry shark evolution : 47-52 degrees
Game - Dead Trigger : 55-62 degrees.
Ambient temperature 31-36 degrees :
Battery temp : 33-37 degrees
Idle : 41-44 degrees
Slight tasks (Whatsapp, checking notifications) : 46-50 degrees
Multiple applications : 47-55 degrees
Game - hungry shark evolution : 55 degrees
Game - Dead Trigger : 65-70 degrees.
Also i've noticed that the CPU temps increase for a flash second to 65 above while installing multiple apps from playstore. Try updating/installing multiple apps from playstore, have the CPU-Z open, and exactly while the app finishes downloading and starts installing, there will be sudden spikes in temperatire depending on your ambient conditions. But, never reaches high temps constantly.

all right, thank you all guys for your replies. So..i sent my phone back to samsung and got a new one 2 days ago,i can definitely confirm that the phone heats up exactly like the previous one , maybe just slightly less(i mean 3 degrees..nothing craze).
For anyone suffering of this ''issue", notice that temps may drastically change depending on wheater temperature ,humidity, etc. if weather is at 40 degrees ur phone wont surely get to a lower temp.
BTW it s clear that this phone heats up and throttles ,some may notice that others not, so unless you receive overheating warnings or have other serious stuffs on ur device ,do not exchange it for a new one because certainly it ll be quite the same as the previous one. Oh it 's quite clear as well that folks claiming their device doesn't exceed 60 degrees under heavy usage either are liers or super lucky ones with uber super powerful units...think its more probably the first option.

Anybody know what are the values in green and red box in the pic attached signify?

The red must be CPU cores, or at least related to that. Have no idea about the green one.

Wherever I see in the forums people only talk about the value in green box and they think that device is relatively cooler even under heavy load. But gotta say man the device heats up worse than my G4 even in minor load when referring to the values in the red box as you said. I wanna know is there something up with my device alone. What does you CPU Temp. reading after about 15 mins of heavy game session like with 'NFS No Limits' in your device in AIDA64? PLease post a screenshot

I don't play games on the phone. I tried a few just to make sure the phone is OK when gaming but in 5 minutes I got bored.
My phone gets hot, 75 Celsius when updating several apps, or right after an OTA.
I think this is normal, as I changed the first phone ( display issue ) and both reached the same temperatures in similar situations.

Oh! Thanks for the reply. This is the first time using glass/metal phone, maybe that's why I'm very sensitive to this problem. Is that a S7(flat)? Never had seen anything above 60C.

Yes, simple s7, not edge.
One time got very hot in my pocket, for no apparent reason.
But in battery stats I noticed that Google services percentages increased from 6 to 16, in about 20 minutes. This happens also on g4, about once or twice a week. It lasts from 10 minutes to a half hour, or I restart the phone and no more issues for a while.
It's hard to catch the s7 above 70 Celsius, I guess the cooling system does it's job really fast. We need an app to monitor and record temperature changes in the background. The only one I know about is CPU temp, but is not showing real CPU temperatures, it's fake.

Got the same situation (temp around 65-70 degrees) especially when updating apps by play store. Its getting hot on the back near the camera. But when updating is done temperatures are very fast dropping to 30-40 degrees. I think it's normal for this kind of device, made from glass and metal. Would be greatful for more observations from you guys. Cheers.

Yeah, Most app in the place store aren't able to read the actual temperature from the S7. Maximum I've seen with those are 38C in ~20 min session of gaming. As I said haven't seen S7 anywhere near 70C but near 61C in AIDA64 but after ~20 min session of gaming. It does take about 5 mins to completely cool down. Don't know it's normal. Is it!?

As you can see from all the below linked videos, the temperature never crosses 40C in any testing under heavy load. But how can we get 60C, 70C and all. They are even saying device isn't much hot. How is that even posssible?

I have no idea what and how they tested, the fact is that mine got very hot a few times. I only check temps when I feel the phone hot, and that was only when updating some apps, right after the OTA restart.
The temps from a gun are going to be lower than the core sensor reading. Always.
Is this gun any good for external testing ? I almost bought it

Here are something based on my recent tests and findings,
The problem is when the device is under heavy load(NFS No Limits game). therm_zoneX values goes upto 61C, which I don't care if the device is still not much hot to hold in hand but it isn't. Compared to my LG G4 it gets hot soon for the same amount of load based on my tests. And makes me unpleasant of the fact that the I can't enjoy the amazing performance of gaming in this phone not even longer when compared to the HTC & LG phones I had. Even simple tasks like switching between Whatsapp and Tapatalk in the background for almost 5 min made the device unusually warm while there isn't anything else heavy running in the background. All these is considering the fact that my room temperature isn't very hot. What is your opinion?
I think the below attached images(4) will help you understand it better on the temp. variations on various tasks and where do I feel it warm/hot. I strongly believe it's unusual based on my experience in previous 5 years with various devices. Do you observe something similar. Please have a look.
PS: The NFS No Limits temp. readings were similar to someone who posted in the different thread.

No no heat problems on mine. I believe Sony has introduced new technology for the heat problem.

Nope no signs of phone getting warmer. Played perfectly fine.

My XZ or XZs didn't get hot or even slightly warm, exactly the same deal with this, I would say it runs even cooler!

The phone is runs cool and somehow has what's turning out to be quite a long battery life

Well, I have been testing my XZP for two now. It is getting warm - definitely. If you put it under extreme load, it´s getting warm, even that warm your palms get a little sweaty - but not uncompfy warm. My LG G4 in comparison got that hot you´d barely wanna touch it.

Look for an app on Google play called "epic citadel" and run it.
Left it going for about 30 minutes and walked around a bit. Phone got Luke warm. Used 8% of the battery.

Any and all computer(s) CPU's will get warm to hot depending on the load. This is the nature of the beast. But mine does not get warm at all the way I use it. My battery life is phenomenal!

Gets warm if you play games for a long period, but nowhere near hot. Also I noticed that, compared to my old phone, the warmth is pretty much the same on the entire back. It's not just hot where the chipset is. All in all, the phone is awesome regarding heath control.

The phone does get hot after a while.
It's cool most of the time, and even if it gets hot, it has great cooling so leaving it alone cools it off in minutes.
As for the temperature, i was doing a stress test the other day (3D) and the phone seems to have capped at 38-39 Celsius degrees (that is slightly higher than body temperature so you can definitely feel it). I didn't check temperature after that though.
It also gets warmer while both watching and shooting at 4K, or high speed (even 1080p though).
However trust me, if you had the Z3 Compact like I did, that phone was a freaking furnace. My battery was affected by it. If want to use my Z3C as a gps in my car, i have to shove it in front of the AC to keep it cool otherwise I'm afraid it's going to evolve into a Samsung Galaxy Note 7.
So this phone is a big big improvement. Though I'd like a phone someday that definitely doesn't get hot. But maybe that's too much to ask.
As I'm typing this, after about 30 minutes of active use, my battery is 35 celsius degrees. From normal use.

A cell phone is just too small to dissipate heat in a very efficient manner. That is why super fast, and powerful, gaming desktop PC's have several fans installed in them along with huge heat sinks sitting right on top of the CPU. The heat sinks are larger than this entire phone! I am an IT Systems Engineer and if you've ever had the opportunity to go to a large data center where servers are housed you will quickly notice the high volume of moving air in the entire area. It can even get quite cold in some data centers all for the same reason... Computers can get very hot! So the fact that OEM's can keep these things as cool as they do, with the CPU housed in such a small, airtight space, is really a marvel of engineering.

Hello , the phone doesn't get hot like my z2 is used to be , I've managed twice to get the phone (on purpose) , but with normal usage 4K video / gaming etc it won't get hot unless you spam many task at hight speed

Heat

Some phones are great to take camping because if you play Asphalt 8 long enough, the back warms up to the ideal temperature that can bake bread. Rate this thread to express the extent to which the Google Pixel 2 XL stays cool under extended heavy use. A higher rating indicates that even when playing strenuous games for long periods of time, the phone doesn't get uncomfortably warm.

This is a big improvement I have seen over my Nexus 6P. The ole Snapdragon 810 would get pretty warm in my hands on heavy use. The new one feels cool at all times. This has also helped tremendously in the battery life department too.

Same. My 6p got warm too fast and throttled after 5 mibs of normal use. The Pixel 2 is just perfect, it gets a little bit warm in heavy usage like it should.

I play pubg constantly and I never feel worried about heat. Even while charging and playing it feels safe.

Two minute queries-
1. Is the top speaker about 20 percent-ish lower in volume than the bottom one?
2. Recording a video for about 9-10 mins got the temp of the battery to 40.7°C when the ambient temperature outside is 24 °C.
Although it has fallen down very quickly after that but is it normal?

You forgot a very important point, performance. This phone is capable of handling heavy games with medium to high graphical settings without overheating.

Oneplus 7 pro overheating?!

When I'm playing games such as Asphalt 9, PUBG or shadowgun legends on max resolution, max brightness and bluetooth on my Oneplus 7 pro's CPU temperature gets really hot, like really hot 73 degrees Celsius when playing for only 30 minutes. The weathers temperature is 17 degrees Celsius. Below is an attachment of the CPU's temperature graph. The screenshots are made a minute or so after closing the game Shadowgun Legends. I'm kinda worried of damaging the hardware with such temperatures. Is it normal to have such high temperatures and does it damage any of the hardware inside? And does anyone experience the same issue?

This just in! Playing graphics-intense games on a phone makes it hot! More at 11:00.

u should have gotten nubia red magic 3 instead.. op7pro is an allrounder.. perfect for modding, camera, display king etc.. it games good but if u want to replace your pc gaming with a phone u should have gone with red magic.. that thing is MADE SPECIALLY FOR THAT.

The weathers temperature is 17 degrees Celsius. Below is an attachment of the CPU's temperature graph. The screenshots are made a minute or so after closing the game Shadowgun Legends. I'm kinda worried of damaging the hardware with such temperatures. Is it normal to have such high temperatures and does it damage any of the hardware inside? And does anyone experience the same issue?

I understand that a phone gets really hot while gaming but 73 degrees Celsius really scared me.

I really like the phone but as you say oneplus 7 pro is an allrounder. I don't play that often to buy a phone specifically for gaming but I hoped that the 10 layers cooling in the oneplus 7 pro would work a little better.

For some reason the 7 pro is set to throttle at much higher temperatures than normal, I suppose in order to preserve performance but it gets too hot and battery drains horribly fast. Personally I think they should adress this because above 50 is just too much even directly on the SOC, there have been situations like this in the past and they were adressed accordingly.

do you know anything about silicon? these chips can stand over 120 degrees celsius.
the SOC isnt something i'd worry about, maybe the other components, but still 50 degrees is perfectly normal.

I think I should ask you that same question. It's definitely safe for the cpu to go as high as 70 C, but that heat needs to go somewhere and it will fry you fingers, so it's not really great for the user. Your 120 C claim is bollocks, you won't get close to that with any phone component, especially with newer ones, as the lower the process node, the lower the throttling temps are set(at least ideally). The 7 pro doesn't throttle as much as other devices, but it sure gets hotter than them, as anandtech has noted in their review.

i said they can STAND that temperature, not that should get to that temperature.
IMO anything under 60-70 degrees C is safe. if it starts to climb above 70 then i would think something is wrong.
also OP phones have throttling at higher temps, it took 65 degrees for my OP6 to throttle down.
my Pixel3XL would throttle at 45-50 degrees (idle on them was 35 so its nonsense)

I know so many oneplus 7 pro users but you're the first person I've come across of this issue... I'm facing the same issue its even reaching 80°c on my OnePlus 7 pro. it wasn't earlier but this problem came after the latest update and i tried downgrading but it didnt help either so I'm pretty sure its a software bug.
Since there are only a few people OnePlus has not addressed the issue yet just make this issue more popular.

73° is nothing... youre phone cant overheat, it will throttle down to prevent overheating... just play and have fun.

My phone is One plus 7 pro. While charging batter get over heated at 48 degree celceius. I got the messgae display to shut the power as it will not charge the battery beyond 91%. So there is auto temp set us in the phone to take so much heat.
