Okay, I take photos with my p40 pro. Then I connect my phone to my chromebook with a cable. Then I copy the photos to a file, camera or download, in Chrome OS. Then I copy the photos to Google Photos. This process if very time consuming.
Does anyone have suggestions for a quicker tranfer process?
If you have a phone with GMS, Huawei or other, share them with Huawei share (if the other phone is Huawei too) or Phone clone (copy the app on the non-Huawei phone, open it and select just the photos when you choose what to move).
Try with Dual space too, download Google photos (inside of Dual space) and see if it will take the photos directly. I think it will work ...
LE: it works with Dual space, on Mate40 pro, I just started a backup.

For those who upload their photos what do you use?
Google Photos. Have never had an issue. You get free storage for photos if you don't save the raw versions.
Will Google photos do anything to the photos?
I use google photos. I have 200GB storage and set it at original quality. It's great.
I set it to backup on wifi while charging although never had an issue with backing up on battery. Just make sure you don't back up on mobile data
So i just came back from a holiday in Japan. As i am using a google pixel, my stored photos automatically goes to the google photos app. but the app is not synced on the cloud (meaning i never signed in with google photos) as i don't intend to use it as a cloud storage, but just a normal stock photo storage on my phone.
So after the trip, i created a new album and sorted out the best photos out of the trip and put it there. I named it "for profile pics photos"
Now, the storage memory is getting full, so i moved the photos from the camera folder to my harddrive through Solid file explorer, but i didn't touch the "for profile pics photos" album.)
When i checked the google photos app, the "for profile pics photos" album is gone! i was shocked and i was looking for the specific photos everywhere. it's gone. My best pics from the trip is gone! i am so pissed.
I double checked in the harddrive if the photos got transferred there but it wasn't. it just got lost!
I also checked the trash in the google photos, it's also not there!
How can i retrieve those photos? why is google photos like this. is this a common problem for a google phone?
Just for what it's worth and because no one has replied yet, I haven't had this problem but I only don't use Photos' backup option on my non-Pixel devices. On my Pixel devices, I use the free full quality backup. On my non-Pixel devices, although I use Photos as a gallery app, I use Mega with its free 50 GB of cloud storage to backup my pictures and videos. It's not as seamless as with Photos.
I should also add I haven't done the exact steps you have on a phone where Photos isn't set to backup automatically.
Hello,
I want to backup all my old pictures (1 TB) with my Pixel 3 xl
Is it possible to get google photos to backup photos from a USB OTG folder without having to copy the pictures on the phone?
I did some searching and saw some suggestions for FolderSync. The problem with the app is that I can't browse to the USB OTG folder.
Thank you
If you're OK with slightly reduced quality (not really an issue or visible unless blowing up the photos to large print sizes) you can just drag them into Google Photos on your computer in a web browser. The Pixel does offer the free original size backups but I am not sure if that's for anything uploaded FROM the phone or only photos/videos captured with the phone camera (based on EXIF or similar).
I want full quality. It work, i checked it.
Hello!
Hope you are well.
I am using a OnePlus 6 device. I was on Oxygen OS's beta channel (OP6_O2_BETA_35). I reverted to Oxygen OS 10.3.5 last night. Since then, I've been experiencing the following problems:
1. The Gallery app is showing no photos. I can see some photos going in the Download folder in my internal storage through the File Explorer app but those aren't showing in the Gallery app. While updating to 10.3.5, I was shown my files will be wiped but I see them in the internal storage. A few of the flies, namely the files in the Download category, appear in the category page but the internal storage shows a lot more files like the music files (which I thought will be lost) and others which aren't shown on the category page. I can play the music files from the internal storage but I can't play them through Play Music app.
2. The Google Photos app won't open anymore. It crashes right after I click on the icon.
3. Can't seem to take any photos with the default camera. I can open it just fine and click to capture but the captured image is a blurred one. Also, the page gets frozen - I can't zoom or swipe on the photo. And, it doesn't show in the Gallery app.
4. Other apps, for example the GCam Mods, crash right after I capture a photo.
5. Can't save screenshot.
6. Connecting the device to a PC through the data cable doesn't show the device. Rather it only shows that there is a CD Drive folder on the PC; clicking on it results in an instruction to insert a disk.
There may be some other issues that I've not encountered yet. I've taken a few screen recording videos but can't find them now. Please help me resolve these issues. I'm looking forward to your suggestions. I appreciate all the help.

Hi everyone, I know The Pixel doesn't record 4K videos, but I use my OG pixel now for backing up photos and videos only. I copy all of my photos and videos from my new device to the OG pixel to upload to Google photos for unlimited high quality storage. Recently I've noticed that when I shoot 4K videos in a copies to my OG pixel it doesn't upload the videos to Google photos. I would have to go on the phone and manually upload it to Google photos. It's still doesn't count towards my storage but I have to do it manually every time. Is this something that Google just put in place on the photos app to to not allow the OG pixel to upload 4K videos or was it always like this?
My s20 4k videos upload just fine through my pixel xl, as soon as i copy them to the pixel and open them in photos they start being uploaded. Can't believe i found one for only $20
it uploads 4k, but since it's such an old phone i'm guessing it just takes a while for it to chew through it. i share screen recordings to mine, and it takes a while for it to show up after downloading it from my pixel 6p. it does eventually upload though.
how are you both copying your stuff to your old pixel 1? i'm just using nearby share once/day. @peachpuff $20?? i paid 100 for mine on swappa! I was bummed that i had to get another one, my original one probably has a dead motherboard
@biglo what folder are the videos being copied to, and is it set to automatically upload from that folder? check your settings

I just copy through usb, but I'll try nearby share next time. Yup $20, and it was in perfect condition too.

I was able to sort it out. Turns out it was a user error on my end. I changed my device name and the Synology Photos app created a new path on my NAS that wasn't being uploaded. Thanks for your help!
I use SyncThing to copy photos from the PC to the Pixel - which then uploads it. You can also sync other phones camera folders to the pixel. The one thing that isn't perfect is, that the pixel can't just pull all photos from a network folder.
I'm a little concerned that copying and deleting the pixels storage over and over causes stress on the memory and lowers the longevity of the device.

I figure the battery would go before the flash storage module does. That, or Google writes the GPhotos app to no longer work with Android 10.
