Today after so many days finally i got miui 12.0.3 and i updated. Everything was good except when I thought to call my gf. Dafuq. The entire call log was filled with plain numbers instead of Names and that was really distressing. I checked the contacts, the numbers were there but the same would not be reflected in call logs. I tried every trick in the book but before clearing data of Phone (contacts and dialer) app I thought to take a backup of my contacts but when i went to settings and pressed export Dafuq again, the app showed that no memory card found. Now this is really strange because earlier it didnt ask for it. I tried using another f1 at home (unupdated) and it didn't have this problem. So now i started thinking out of the box. I downloaded mi contacts and dialer 12.2.2.1 from apkmirror and installed it. Now the sdcard error was gone but yet it didnt show my call logs. Now i exported all contacts to device. Cleared the data of Phone (contacts and dialer) app and then imported the backup. The importing took around 20 mins and then everything was back to normal. Hope this helps somebody.
Thank u
Simple and 1000000% working way(i talked to a MI executive for this)
1. If you have already cleared data and cannot see anything on the dialer app(just black screen) then restart your device. Then you would be able to see everything.
2. Then go to contacts and tap on 3 dots on top right and open settings.
3. Go to 'more' option and select Rebuild Index Data
Note- Rebuilding will take a lot of time depending on how much contacts you have. Mine took 15-20minutes for 2000 contacts soo have patience.

Hi,
I did an update and the G1 asked me something about contacts and by mistake I clicked on delete. So my online contacts at gmail GONE but the contacts on my G1 is still exist.
How can I sync it to the live?
wow !
You should go to settings, then to data synchronization and then click on the gmail option and sync it there. Then check online to see if it updated. If not try doing the sync again from your phone while logged out of gmail on your cpu. Idk if resetting the phone would be a good idea because the contacts arent stored in the phone, and if you say its empty online, then the phone would have nothing to pull to it. Hope this helps : )
problem in sync contact
I got into data sync and I saw it says under the contacts "sync is currently experiencing problems. it will be bacl shortly"
ha?!
Ok
This happened to me b4.... heres what you do
go to the market and download an app that backs up your contacts.
back up your contacts.
Then boot into recovery mode.
Alt-w to wipe the cache etc.. ( fyi your apps, texts, settings will be cleared)
assuming you still have the update.zip on your sdcard, hit alt+s to start the update all over again.
Before you do the update, reboot the phone and see if the wipe fixed the problem. if it didnt, then reapply the update. And be careful when your prompted for syncing options.
Ill watch the thread for any further questions
SOLVED!
This is what I did:
I entered "manage applications" and deleted all my contacts. Then I did sync and it worked.
Then I used my backup from vcard IO application and did sync again and it worked.
From what I read the problem cause by mybackup pro. That's it.
Thanks
: ) ! Ok cool, glad you didnt have to go through all the stuff i posted above. I think those contact backup programs cause alot of trouble. I thought the whole purpose of google sync was to have a backup of you contact info anyway? lol glad you fixed it anyway
Maybe you guys can help me out here. This is the second time this has happened. All of the sudden, without warning, all my contacts are gone. I sent a text not 10 mins ago, at that point everybody who I'd texted had their names and photos next to the texts. Now, I'm left with just a bunch of numbers. I checked my "Contacts" app, and it's empty. It did the same thing about a week ago, but it was early and I had a Nandroid backup from the night before, so I only lost about two texts. My last backup is from two days ago, too much for me to restore back that far. Any idea a) WHY this would happen, as randomly as it did? and b) How to get back any contacts that might not transfer from a GMail/Facebook Sync? Would this be a problem with the phone, or something I did to the phone that would make it do this literally randomly?
I guess I'll throw in that I mainly use Handcent, have ChompSMS on here as well, and haven't used the default messaging app since I downloaded Handcent. I also am no longer able to sync Facebook it appears.
Also, contacts are the only thing missing. All other data is still there, along with all apps and even my homescreen layout is still intact.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Check your sync options. On a different device, I've had the Contacts come unchecked, and when the phone sync'd it erased them all
I checked everything after it happened, there were no changes. I didn't have it set up for Auto-sync either, so it shouldn't have just randomly synced to nothing. And that wouldn't explain why my phone and SIM contacts aren't accessible either.
Anyways, it happened again today. I noticed it right after I replied to a text using LauncherPro's new Messaging widget. I'm wondering if that's not the common factor in the three times that it's happened. If it happens again, it'll be getting unrooted, restored to stock and exchanged under warranty. The most intrusive thing I've done to this phone is try to get a lagfix to work (that didn't even work), and I doubt the side effects of that would include random contact deletion...
Hi everybody, i have the phone since oct 2011, tired of waiting for a kies 2.3.x i installed 2.3.5 and later 2.3.6 (never installed any mod, only official ROMS )using links and tutorials from this forum... works great, except for a fatal flaw: every 7-10 days tops ( but it happened 3 times in a single week) my address book randomly disappears in the middle of the day... e.g. i'm texting on whatsapp and suddenly instead of the contact name there's only the number... when i go for the address book i always find this exact situation:
- no numbers, no emails, no social... tabula rasa, blank
- if i try and change the visualization options, until i reboot the phone i can't even see the contacts in my SIM ( and when i reboot they magically reappear, they seem to be untouched), and nothing seems to be working, google account contacts are still safe on the server but the phone seems to be unable to see them ( works flawlessly in every other internet-related task)
after a while, and a reboot, and a restore from a backup i have on my microsd, situation seems to be back to normal, i can go back to visualizing only google contacts, sim and phone book both off... until it happens again, and again, and again...
did this happen to any of you, too? is there any way it can be fixed? it's really grinding my gears :\

This happened to me 3 days ago when using CM9, only thing i did was checking my contacts, played a little, checked the contacts again to get a number, and bam. EMPTY.
I wasn't convinced so i plugged the phone to my PC and launched moborobo, and guess what.. the contacts are there.
Got my numbers backed up, deleted the whole contacts there (invisible, from moborobo) and restored backed up contacts, didn't happen from that day.
Hey Guys,
So this morning when i started using my phone and wanted to add a contact from whatsapp the phone started lagging, and the said there is no app open this contact.
Finding it weird i tried opened the stock contacts app on my phone, and it was just a white screen and then the app crashed, I tried opening the dialer (phone) that was totally blank none of my previous call logs seen.
Then i tried switching off the phone and restarting, same issue no change, then going back to whatsapp all my contacts vanished and are only seen as the actual phone numbers.
Things ive tried:
I tried clearning cache and data of the contacts App
I dont have G+ installed
Went to google account and checked contacts sync, no issues there
but i'm not able to even add a contact or view them at all.
Please help
Phone: Vivo U10
Age: barely 10 months (new phone)
I have 10 contacts that won't go away.
When I open each contact they don't have any information, phone number, email, etc.
When I export my contact list, all my contacts except these 10 contacts show up.
If I delete all my contacts they all go away except for these 10 contacts!
I have cleared data. I have cleared cache. I have force-stopped Contacts. I have uninstalled Contacts with adb powershell. I have reinstalled Contacts with adb powershell.
I cannot get these 10 empty, useless, uninformative contacts to go away.
Help?
If you have a Google account, log in thru a different device (e.g. desktop) and check if those 10 are in your Google contacts. Another possibility is they are due to your carrier. Can you get any clue(s) from looking at and researching their names?
SOLVED!!!
In the Samsung Contacts app I tapped on the hamburger menu and emptied the Trash. Presto! Stubborn contacts gone! It makes ABSOLUTELY no sense why, but the solution was so simple it was almost stupid.
Thanks @MrGoodtunes for the advice and for hitting me back on this issue. You didn't solve it but I appreciate you looking at it!
