So I tried the adaptive charging feature on Pixel 4a. I set an alarm for 9am on my phone, plugged it in to charge at around 11.30 pm and went to sleep. The lock screen displayed adaptive charging on and that the charging would be complete by 9 am. However, I woke up early at around 6, checked my phone and found that the device was completely charged by then. Does this feature actually work? I have always taken care not to charge my previous devices overnight, but I found this option convenient. Should I stop charging the pixel overnight as well?
Thanks in advance!
Yah, apparently this Adapative Charging junk doesn't work on the 4a, same with me and same with tons of Reddit posters.... hopefully Goog comes out with a fix or a better working version of this this year because I can't find any 3rd party software solution for the 4a...

Ok I've now had two occasions I've put my device on charge when gone to bed and when got up it's only charged to 79% first time device was on around 30% and second time 64% as had to charge it earlier in the evening due to heavy use gaming etc during the day , both times averageing 5/6 hrs on charge while sleeping (I'm a light sleeper ) so I can fully charge from say 30% to near full in 30/40 mins during the day yet leaving to charge when asleep for 5hrs+ it's not charging to full seems odd it can't get from 64% to 100% in 5hrs + I know it trickle charges after certain % but should be still fully charge in that time and it doesn't do it every time since last update 10.5.4 it's done it twice I also know it learns your battery pattern but still should be charging to 100% regardless is there maybe something in the battery optimization settings I should or should not have toggled on like optimised charging would that cause it to do it? Just curious if anybody else has come across same same issue
Thanks [emoji4]

Anybody else notice this ? mine is still doing it not every night but now and again will only charge to 90% and stop is this a fault or normal? is it a feature of the charging optimization feed back would be appreciated before I return coz if nobody else is experiencing it then deff issue with phone , thanks

Nothing here, charging to 100% every time.
Mine came w/the charging optimization toggled on & I've left it set at that.
Guessing there'd be no harm in toggling it off to see if that makes any difference for you. If it were unsafe, I'd imagine there'd be no option to toggle it off.
FWIW, I'm on the T-Mobile US variant (stock/unrooted).
I have it toggled off maybe I should have it on seems daft to have a toggle if it's Going to do that and only charge 90% if turned off it's odd as I can plug in and charge it 100% in few mins but over night it won't full charge

Are you rooted? Any battery limit/health apps installed? If not, do you use the same outlet every night when you plug in the charger? If so, I'd suggest trying a different outlet to see if it is still having an issue. If so, the only other option would be a factory reset and if it continues you may want to reach out to OnePlus for support.
I am wondering besides turning on the feature. How does it work? Does it take into account of other features turning on?
I read on OnePlus forum. So I tried it out last night. I put my phone on the wired charger at 5% battery @ 11:45PM. By 12:45AM ish it was already fully charged. My impression is that it slows down charging on overnight charge near the time I wake up.
Yes but I think you need to do it a few times so it learns when to charge that way. I could be wrong but that's how I understand it.

I could never get it to work either so I installed the GUI version of ACCA. It works perfectly. I have it set to charge up to 95% and then it'll discharge (if I have it plugged in) until 85% then it'll charge back up to 95%. I also have it set to turn the phone off at 15%.
I have had the phone for a couple of days now. charged it 4 times. all 4 times I charged it with the 65W warp charge 65 brick. I cant find any battery optimisation settings that can cause this issue. the Phone has some option that kicks in and stops the charging at 75% . i switched off both battery optimisation options just to check and still it didn't work. it wont charger even with the older dash or warp charger so its most likely a android 11 oxygen os optimisation that I cant find any option to turn off. pls HELP! it only charges to a 100% with the phone turned off.
You say this is only happening when the phone is turned on? It sounds like some type of battery protection mechanism designed to minimize battery wear while the phone is on. Some people like to keep their phone on a charger for hours at a time while using Hot Spot for example. Some say that this is bad for the battery??? I do this, but not using a charger, but rather using USB into a charging port on my laptop...which is a very slow charging option. My 8t arrives tomorrow so I will have to see if it is happening on mine. When using the rapid charger while the phone is off, when it hits 100% it will top charging...but if the phone is on it will "keep" charging which may be bad using this new high speed charging. Just a guess on my part. Many times there are settings available on these phones that are very hard to find. I would do a search in the settings app using whatever different words you can think of to see if there is something that can be adjusted.

yes I completely understand the implementation of this feature and its absolutely a great thing. its just that I m unable to find a switch to turn it off nor do I even find any mention of it in the battery optimisation options. there has to be a way to turn it off.

There is an "Optimized Charging" setting on mine. It's not adjustable...only on or off. Maybe that has something to do with your issues?
#TeamRMA
I don't have that issue with mines
Is there a message on the notification centre? I remember my device cut the charging at 80% saying that it will slowly charge to 100 in a few hours to protect battery life. I believe this is with the battery optimization turned on.
If there's nothing similar then try to go for a replacement or take it to OnePlus support.
Battery Optimization <> Charging Optimization.
Hi guys, so last night I was researching apps to limit battery charging my new Android 11 4a (4G) to about 80% or so because I like to plug in the phone at night all night and forget about it until the next day. Gave the native Pixel "Adaptive Charging" a try with an alarm set but 50% of the time the adaptive charging didn't enable (reddit is flooded with complaints about Pixel Adapative Charging so I know it's just not me ;-)
So looking over the two big threads here on XDA about "Battery Charge Limit" & "Advanced Charging Controller" and searching those threads for Pixel 4a in those threads have shown me no good answers on either what app to use or what settings to even use. Also both apps seem to have ceased development and not working so well with Android 11.
Have any of you guys had success with a Battery Charge Limit App for your Android 11 4a and with what settings please?
Same way -- I use an app called Battery Full Notification, that starts throwing notifications once your battery hits X percentage (you decide). I have IFTTT pick up on that notification, and in turn IFTT shuts off my smart switch. Has been working perfectly for me the past couple of years. This of course only works for my one plug that I use for overnight charging. The plug turns on automatically every night around bedtime so its ready to go, then turns off when done. As a top off, it turns back on around 5am in case it dropped at all and then kicks back off when my phone hits 95% and sends the notification
Thanks dude, wow you got that sh*t nailed down tight ;-) But for me just trying to set up a software solution... plug it in & see ya tomorrow without killing my battery kinda thing...
Just asking in case this is just me.
My phone is hitting 100% charge many, many hours before the target time, has anyone else noticed this behaviour?
Is your phone telling you, you are using adaptative charge ?
Yeah and an alarm is set at 7am and i am not putting it on charge until after 9pm.
My Pixel 6 Pro used to hit 100% about an hour before the target time.
Weird, I don't have this problem on mine, just like you said with your p6, I hit 100% few minutes before I wake up ...
Maybe you aren't alone, future update could fix this
cheers, i'll double check again tonight that is is actualy adaptive charging, its all a bit odd really if yours is working ok.
There are a specific set of conditions needed for Adaptive Charging to work
Get the most life from your Pixel phone battery - Pixel Phone Help
You can help your phone’s battery last longer throughout the life of the phone by taking care of the battery and reducing battery drain. Important: Some of these steps work only on Android

As i said in post #3 an alarm is set for 7AM and the phone was placed on charge after 9PM.
Anyway panic over, i rebooted the phone yesterday as a matter of course and this morning it hit 100% 1 hour before the target time, maybe it had just had a brainfart or something.
Does someone know if it is possible to change the adaptive charging limit from 100% to 80%?
Only through root I guess, by rewriting the Google battery charger file
They are being safer and gentler to your battery. Adaptive 'on' and getting about 18 watt push. Adaptive 'off' and getting over 21 watt push. So it's looking out for you.

You could just set the alarm for a couple of hours later than you want it.
