Issue : OnePlus 8T Charging stops at 75% - OnePlus 8T Questions & Answers

I have had the phone for a couple of days now. charged it 4 times. all 4 times I charged it with the 65W warp charge 65 brick. I cant find any battery optimisation settings that can cause this issue. the Phone has some option that kicks in and stops the charging at 75% . i switched off both battery optimisation options just to check and still it didn't work. it wont charger even with the older dash or warp charger so its most likely a android 11 oxygen os optimisation that I cant find any option to turn off. pls HELP! it only charges to a 100% with the phone turned off.

You say this is only happening when the phone is turned on? It sounds like some type of battery protection mechanism designed to minimize battery wear while the phone is on. Some people like to keep their phone on a charger for hours at a time while using Hot Spot for example. Some say that this is bad for the battery??? I do this, but not using a charger, but rather using USB into a charging port on my laptop...which is a very slow charging option. My 8t arrives tomorrow so I will have to see if it is happening on mine. When using the rapid charger while the phone is off, when it hits 100% it will top charging...but if the phone is on it will "keep" charging which may be bad using this new high speed charging. Just a guess on my part. Many times there are settings available on these phones that are very hard to find. I would do a search in the settings app using whatever different words you can think of to see if there is something that can be adjusted.

yes I completely understand the implementation of this feature and its absolutely a great thing. its just that I m unable to find a switch to turn it off nor do I even find any mention of it in the battery optimisation options. there has to be a way to turn it off.

There is an "Optimized Charging" setting on mine. It's not adjustable...only on or off. Maybe that has something to do with your issues?

#TeamRMA
I don't have that issue with mines

Is there a message on the notification centre? I remember my device cut the charging at 80% saying that it will slowly charge to 100 in a few hours to protect battery life. I believe this is with the battery optimization turned on.
If there's nothing similar then try to go for a replacement or take it to OnePlus support.

Battery Optimization <> Charging Optimization.

[Q] Battery Lag?

Hey guys, I have a problem with my Sensation. Whenever I fully charge it and then remove it from the charger, use it for like an hour or two, the phone still thinks the battery is 100% charged. When looking inside the battery usage, it shows the graph with 0s underneath it, while in the previous screen where you see the apps battery usage it says 2h 5m 13s or something like that.
This wouldn't really be a problem, but when I started up Maps Navigation and plugged the charger in the car, it wouldn't charge because it still assumed the battery was 100% charged!
Any of you also having this problem? Thanks in advance!

Does it stay 100% forever? Then you may have the inexhaustible battery... (not sure if this is grammaticaly correct )
I wouldn't consider this a problem. You can download a battery monitoring app from the market and see what's going on with your phone and if the 100% that it's rerporting is correct. Also, check that the battery contacts are clean.
Not sure my phone does that but it can be on half charge then when I reset phone it's gone up a notch. This morning it didn't look like it had charged although it had been plugged in. When I switched it was on orange then it did the charging animation for a few seconds without charger plugged in then stopped on full. Odd.
Mine stays on 100% for a couple of hours too, has done since I got it.
I think perhaps HTC are "cheating" (or using "creative coding", whichever expression you prefer) in the way they report the battery percentage. Make the battery appear better than it is. Just a theory, of course.

That happens to me a lot too. Woke up this morning, phone had been charging for nearly 5 hours, but was only on 82%. After a couple of minutes of the screen being on, it had leapt to 100% and stopped charging.
Also, once the battery is below about 20%, it will sometimes drop 2-3% at a time. Odd.
Looks like they totally screwed the battery meter hardware or something in the software. Remembers me of my iPod touch
Experienced the say.. hopefully either it will auto be fine due to charge cycle or via updates

The Battery driver that LG used for the G2X has the same problem,a simple reboot fixes it,hope this helps "temporarily" that is.Cheers

Thanks for your answer, so it's probably a general problem that may be fixed by either HTC or the Cooks that make ROM's for our beautiful new phones
Can you tell me how long it takes for your phone to fully charge? My phone needs 3-4 hours to fully charge..is this normal?!
Hmm mine doesn`t lag but it takes times to charge. Usually with my hd2 take around less than 2 hours to fully charge now with sensation around 3 hours

I received my phone yesterday and charged it for 4-5 hours throughout the day. Last night it was close to 100% while I was playing with it (off the charger). I then charged it over night for 9 hours. This morning the battery says it's at 50% but has 15 hours left.
Weird :\
Charge the battery with the power turned off overnight, in the morning unplug the charger, turn the phone on, and shutdown again, and plug the charger back for 30
mins phone still turned off. After that start using the phone normally, this way you calibrate the phones battery meter properly.

Phone won't recognise charger

This is a strange one. When I connect USB to my computer the device shows up, I also get the option for USB tethering on the phone... however it does not indicate that it is charging. The charger works in other phones and I've even tried using a proper charger (i.e. not a usb cable).
Now the thing is, I'm not sure if it's not charging. When I turn the phone on I have 11% battery and get a notification about it and told to plug in a charger, and when I plug it in the message does not come back - although the battery % stays on 11.

They are installed on my PC yes, although I don't see what that has to do with it?
I'm asking the stupid questions first, lol...
Which USB ports are you using, try connecting to a port on the motherboard (proper +5V) if not?
I have the same problem with a nokia lumia 920 charger, the charger works in others phones and some time before works in my phone too

Like I said, I've tried using a direct mains charger too. The USB connection from phone to computer is fine as I can transfer files etc. It just won't charge regardless of what cable I use.
That said though, the battery has been on 11% for a long time. Makes me think that it has actually been charging (or else it would have decreased/died) and it's just the reading that is stuck? I've tried switching to icon mode then % but it's still on 11. Is there a way to recalibrate it? The phone is barely a month old so it's surely not a hardware issue.

When I got mine the battery hung on 31% for ages then dropped to 0% and rebooted. Since then I cycled it through a few times without connecting the charger until it was flat and then charged it to max and left it for a few hours at least. It came good after that and I've had no problems. According to Motorola to recalibrate the battery state it should be left for charge once fully charged for a few hours extra.
I've had mine for a few weeks.
It doesn't seem to change either side of 11% whether I charge it or not. I guess I'll just have to plug it in for a few hours and assume it's fully charged?
It took me ~4 and 1/2 hours to charge it fully using the 500mAh Moto charger from 0%, but I did it the other way around--I used it till it was flat first.

That's very peculiar... It might indicate something wrong at the firmware level. You are running the standard ROM, are you?
I'd advise to jump some factory resets / firmware (re)install hoops.
I'm running Beanstalk ROM but the creator is already getting very cranky with me for suggesting it might be a bug in that
Unless you can reproduce the behaviour with the stock firmware, Beanstalk is the prime suspect.
But it could be a file/driver corruption, hence the suggestion to reinstall.
Same problem with XT1033 on Stock 4.4 ROM
on stock 4.4 ROM same problem i am facing, even after 1-2 hours charging its showing same % of battery.
but after a restart its coming to normal condition & shows charging icon.
I charged my phone last night (still on 10%), brought it out with me and during use it cut out and would not turn on. I kept trying to turn on by either pressing power on or pressing power & vol down. A couple of times I got to the bootloader but that was it. When I got home I plugged it into a charger and it came up with a white screen with an empty battery graphic.
Now my phone will not turn on no matter what I do, even when plugged in.

Battery Problems?

Can anyone help and give me tips on how to stop my screen and mobile standby using so much battery,, also im using official moto charger and getting 7 hours until fully charged without any apps running, am i doing something wrong here
Thanks :good:
Mobile Standby is based on cellular signal strength, the better the signal the lower the battery usage, in general.
Screen should be the primary battery user, but you didn't give us a screenshot of your screen on time to make a fair comparison if it's normal or not.
The charge time is messed up though, mine takes less than 2 hours from under 10% to full if left idle, try another cable or charger with 1.2+ amp supply and check the USB port for lint buildup, I have seen excessive pocket lint build up and keep the cable from making a good connection.

Unfortunately, that screenshot doesn't tell us much because you have been charging partially off and on (statistics are since the last full charge), but I think your statistics are off... they add up to way more than 100% in the first screen shot, but I would expect the screen usage is normal since you are using the device quite a bit. The only way to get the screen to use less power is to turn the brightness down, otherwise that is one is and should be the largest battery user.
And even without a SIM the device will still look for mobile signal, it is capable of making emergency calls and to my knowledge in the stock ROM that cannot be turned off.
Thanks for the reply, sorted the charging time problrem out and lowered the brightness down to 10% and im still getting alot of usage also just to clarify i cant really do anything over the screen consumption?? Thanks :highfive:
New moto G 3rd Gen in the household. Is it not unusual for the shipped charger to struggle to charge at all when screen is full bright and wifi all radios are active? My son reported the phone would not charge at all. eventually went flat and had to use the Vol-DN/Power combo to revive it for him. Seems to be charging fine now with the supplied charged with the handset powered off. I suspect he had overwhelmed the charge by pegging everything full bright and on. Is this about right for this phone?

Sadly, this isn't unheard of... The charger that comes with these in the box is garbage in some parts of the world, check the rating on it, if it's under 1A/1000ma get a decent aftermarket one rated at 1.5A or better.

Thanks. Good advice the supplied charger is only 850ma. Will get a more powerful one.
I also wonder if the battery charging has some conditioning login going on in the first few cycles.
Last night I observed this weird behaviour as the phone charges.
-Motorola SPN5512A Phone USB AC Charger Power Supply 5.1V 850mA.
-Phone off.
-Pressing power button intermittently to display battery graphic and charge level.
It charges fine to somewhere over 51% and then begins to discharge rapidly whilst phone is off and charger is connected !!
At this point the screen remains on with charge indicator permanently displayed. Phone is still switched off.
This is a log of how it was charging, with me doing a quick press of power button to read the level.
5:24pm 35%
5:34pm 41%
5:46pm 48%
5:56pm 51%
<- In this period phone which is still powered off, spontaneously begins to discharge
7:20pm 30% screen on and battery icon displayed permanently. Phone is still off though. pulled charger and re inserted @ 7:21pm
7:31pm 36% now charging again with screen going off and the need to press power button to see charge indicator.
7:36pm 39%
7:45pm 44%
7:55pm 50%
8:17pm 62%
8:46pm 79%
9:34pm 95%
9:47pm 97%
10:13pm 100%
Any idea why it would have flipped from charge to discharge?

If you don't have a SIM card, I recommend putting your phone in airplane mode to keep the cell radio off. You can turn WiFi on after enabling airplane mode.
I was just about going to create a thread about it. My battery takes a full night to fully charge even with the phone turned off. What can I do so I can improve it? It is pissing me off seriously.

Hello,
Can you please elaborate issue?

[
More in depth description of the problem
I Purchased a NOTE EDGE Used about 2 weeks ago, I was told the problem was a generic battery causing the phone to overheat, I bought A New battery which somewhat solved the overheating problem however upon using the phone even with a new battery I noticed there still is significant battery drain in a short time. Also When the phone is completely off the battery still drains at a fast rate, If plugged in the battery doesn't die but charges extremely slowly even with a rapid charger and rapid charge activated. Another Issue that I have is when I remove the battery the phone will not turn back on once its back inside unless plugged in and when I connect by usb to the computer it shows connected on the phone and on the computer but in programs such as Odin it doesn't show up unless I remove and re install the battery multiple times I've done all I can think of to fix this ( bought a new battery, tried re flashing the firmware, Shut off all unused apps and turned off all data Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, dimmed the screen, battery saver etc.. ) the phone drains regardless even when phone is completely powered down.

N.m. just googled it
After I updated to 6.0.1 update on my note edge , once the battery reaches 49% it just turns off , it doesn't turn on , while I put it for recharge the battery charge shows 49% and it turns on.
I have done 3 factory resets still the problem arise. I did factory reset to clear cache and to clear any errors in apps. This is my primary phone for work and I need to carry power bank all the time. Please assist
Time to change the battery. It is not about the percentage of the battery. It is more about that the voltage breaking. As it seems the battery can not longer hold its voltage due to battery age. When the voltage breaks, the device will automatically shut down to due low voltage

Battery not charge to full

Ok I've now had two occasions I've put my device on charge when gone to bed and when got up it's only charged to 79% first time device was on around 30% and second time 64% as had to charge it earlier in the evening due to heavy use gaming etc during the day , both times averageing 5/6 hrs on charge while sleeping (I'm a light sleeper ) so I can fully charge from say 30% to near full in 30/40 mins during the day yet leaving to charge when asleep for 5hrs+ it's not charging to full seems odd it can't get from 64% to 100% in 5hrs + I know it trickle charges after certain % but should be still fully charge in that time and it doesn't do it every time since last update 10.5.4 it's done it twice I also know it learns your battery pattern but still should be charging to 100% regardless is there maybe something in the battery optimization settings I should or should not have toggled on like optimised charging would that cause it to do it? Just curious if anybody else has come across same same issue

Nothing here, charging to 100% every time.
Mine came w/the charging optimization toggled on & I've left it set at that.
Guessing there'd be no harm in toggling it off to see if that makes any difference for you. If it were unsafe, I'd imagine there'd be no option to toggle it off.
FWIW, I'm on the T-Mobile US variant (stock/unrooted).
I have it toggled off maybe I should have it on seems daft to have a toggle if it's Going to do that and only charge 90% if turned off it's odd as I can plug in and charge it 100% in few mins but over night it won't full charge

Are you rooted? Any battery limit/health apps installed? If not, do you use the same outlet every night when you plug in the charger? If so, I'd suggest trying a different outlet to see if it is still having an issue. If so, the only other option would be a factory reset and if it continues you may want to reach out to OnePlus for support.
