Question Adaptive Charging - Google Pixel 7 Pro

Just asking in case this is just me.
My phone is hitting 100% charge many, many hours before the target time, has anyone else noticed this behaviour?

Is your phone telling you, you are using adaptative charge ?

Yeah and an alarm is set at 7am and i am not putting it on charge until after 9pm.
My Pixel 6 Pro used to hit 100% about an hour before the target time.

Weird, I don't have this problem on mine, just like you said with your p6, I hit 100% few minutes before I wake up ...
Maybe you aren't alone, future update could fix this

cheers, i'll double check again tonight that is is actualy adaptive charging, its all a bit odd really if yours is working ok.

There are a specific set of conditions needed for Adaptive Charging to work

As i said in post #3 an alarm is set for 7AM and the phone was placed on charge after 9PM.
Anyway panic over, i rebooted the phone yesterday as a matter of course and this morning it hit 100% 1 hour before the target time, maybe it had just had a brainfart or something.

Does someone know if it is possible to change the adaptive charging limit from 100% to 80%?

Only through root I guess, by rewriting the Google battery charger file

They are being safer and gentler to your battery. Adaptive 'on' and getting about 18 watt push. Adaptive 'off' and getting over 21 watt push. So it's looking out for you.

You could just set the alarm for a couple of hours later than you want it.

Battery usage in night time?

Previously I had Huawei with 4.0.3 and in night time (wifi disabled, sync disabled, no apps active) battery dropped about 3 points, but with Moto it's about 10 points.

The one of mine used last night more or less the same, around 10% with wifi, no apps running, no data conection, etc. I'm a little bit worried about it, i think it's too much battery drop :/

I just go airplane mode and I had a 1% drop over 10 hours overnight.
download BetterBatteryStats or Wakelock Detector and check what eats your battery

I'm using Profile Scheduler, but since 4.3 it can't activate aeroplane mode, without rooting and I always forget switch it manually.
I always turn off my data and WiFi and my phone only drops about 4 to 6 percent overnight

I need SkyPe so can't unistall it but I disabled AD -s in SkyPe settings, and see does it help.
Edit: I removed latest SkyPe and installed older version and Mediaserver doesn't eat battery anymore.
It seems to do just fine at nighttime for me.
Nearly 0% drain after a night with airplane mode.

Tonight, in almos 6 hours my battery has dropped around 4% being in airplane mode. I have installed betterbatterystats and i cannot see anything strange
what used up the 4% that is not strange?
I unplugged my phone at around 3am because I rolled over and noticed the notification led blinking. I was at 100% and cleared the notification. Went back to sleep then got up around 5:30am and looked at my phone. I noticed my battery was down more than I expected so I checked the stats. I was down almost 20% in 2 hours 30 minutes. Android OS was at 60% usage with time on a 2 hours 20 minutes. I had sleep assist turned on during the night and I also keep wifi and data on. I've installed Wakelock Detector to see if it will be able to see what in Android OS is keeping my phone on.

fyi. when you charge your phone, the battery starts discharging once the battery is FULL, NOT when the cable is unplugged. However, the battery % will not drop whilst the phone is plugged in,
Therefore, if you charge your phone fully but don't unplug it for hours, it 'may' appear to discharge faster than normal once you do unplug it. (basically the phone will over present it's true charge level).
If you unplug the phone as soon as its fully charged, however, it will appear to discharge more slowly...

think I must have missed the joke??, or are you wishing me 'Lots of Love' ?
you can test if for yourself if you don't believe me... It protects the battery..
it is very relevant for people who charge their phone over night. The Android battery stats will start the clock ticking from 9am when they unplug their phone, however the battery started discharging 6 hours erlier when he phone was fully charged at 3am... The % then drops much faster than expected as it races to it's 'true' level of charge. This could explain the differences people are seeing in some cases...

actually you are just partially right. the percentage only drops until reaching a trigger level, where it starts to charge again. also in my opinion when the phone is charged and left plugged in it uses the power directly and leaves the battery untouched

Hogwash.
Lithium batteries don't retain a memory.. You can charge them as often as you want... No matter what percentage your at. And if you leave it plugged in it will keep your battery fully charged with a trickle charge at 100...
I'm not sure what wives tales you've been reading.... But not everything on the Internet is true.... So you know.
I read something else around here lately where a guy was saying basically if you plug in at bedtime, you better wake up after a couple hours and unplug.... Or you'll damage your battery. Lol
Anyway.... Charge how ever you feel you need to.... To each their own. But I guarantee your battery will not drain quicker cause you left it charging all night.... That's simply ridiculous.
No offence.

its not hogwash, I think maybe you misunderstood me. I'm well aware lithium cells aren't memory cells. In fact, check my post history I posted as much in a thread of someone asking 'how best to first charge their moto G'. So if this is what you thought I meant, fairplay.
However,
Someone clarified above there is a 'threshold' level. however, these phones do not 'trickle charge' it's not a car battery. Charging at full amps when the battery is full would damage it, hence it stops charging, starts to discharge, then at some 'threshold level' will begin charging again, it does not trickle charge..
Also, as a matter of fact a friend of mine is an electrical engineer, does small Linux projects and some work on ARM architecture. I first heard about this behaviour when charging whilst on the XDA S2 forum. We tested the charge in the S2 1650mha battery ourselves and found we could get a variety of charge levels all shown as '100%' on the phone, just by when we unplugged the charger. I'm making an assumption this phone behaves the same, however why would it not?
So, all I would say to anyone on this forum. Just because someone has a lot of posts and thanks and 'knows his stuff' , This guy should take his own advice and not believe everything he reads on the internet...

A question about Zerolemon's Extended Battery.

Hello guys! So I just bought an extended battery from Zerolemon for my S5.
My question is, should I charge it for 12 hours before prior use like the manual stated? Or fully discharge it first before charge as some reddit folks suggested?
Thanks!
Like manual say
Wysłane z mojego SM-G903F przy użyciu Tapatalka
After first full charge, run it down to 2% like it also recommends. Help to condition battery, I do it to mine once in a while. Have this one for almost a year now and it is working quite well, can't say there has been any depreciation to run time yet.
Which app is this ??

That is correct,
I may be mistaken as I don't have the little instruction sheet., but there is some additional time in hours after the phone says it has reached 100% full charge that it needs to remain connected to finish "topping" of the battery. Although I would argue that it is almost impossible, given that any algorithm the phone uses to charge one brand of lithium battery vs. another hasn't changed when the battery has been swapped out, and charging should stop once the phone see the correct internal voltage. Yet ZeroLemom recommends to leave it to charge.
The final ~10% is quite misleading as far as how long it will stay on before it finally turns off due to low voltage cut out. I had mine running for over a day and a half sometimes before it finally turns off. Very annoying that low battery message, would have liked to know a way to change the notification, or either actually entering a new mAh rating in the ROM's data so a more accurate approximation of useful charge still remaining can be properly calculated/displayed.

I see, thanks for the tip. Last question, how did you treated the battery after the first charge cycle? Did you still charged it for 12 hrs or only until the phone says it is "charged"?

I personally only left it on for about 8 hours. Typically plugging the phone in to the charger when going to sleep and disconnecting when I wake.

Hey so I got it last 2 days ago and it on its way to its first discharge now. Should I fully let the battery drain to 0% or just charge it when it hits 1%? What would you do?
It's really up to you, I would at least reach the 2%. Any further past that point may or may not matter. I've let it go before until it turns off on its own, but like I said in a previous post the low battery warnings drove me nuts.

Nokia 3 Battery Life

Hi to all the forum! I've just got a brand new Nokia 3 two days ago. Overall I like this phone. It's small, handy, well-built and non too much slow as many reviewers said. The only issue I have is with battery. I was aware of the fact that there's no fast charging, and that's not an issue for me. But the battery life seems very poor, lasting only from morning to afternoon with only 3hrs 30mins of screen on time. I'm running Oreo 8.0.0 with may security patches.
Is it "normal"? It will increase after some recharges or my battery is defective? Today i reached 4hrs and 20mins of screen on time, but i only used the phone yesterday evening and this morning, leaving it in idle during night.
Sorry for my english.
EDIT: on the manual it says that for the first time usage of the phone I should connect it to the usb cable and switch it on while charging. But I didn't do that. I switched on the phone, let the battery drain till 15% and then charge again. May I have damaged the battery?
i get 6-7h sot with web browsing, youtube and listening music, minimum brightness, 3g network, wifi enabled. I'm on 7.1.1 December SP. I have Enable Doze for Google Play Services Magisk module and it improved my battery life. I have no issues with this module like receiving messages with social apps. I also have a lot of xposed modules. This is how it looks.
Try to calibrate your battery, i had a problem that my phone would go from 10% to 0% very quick.

I can tell you that this can be a long process. First discharge you battery completely from system. Then go to recovery (by holding power + volume up) and stay there. wait about 2 hours to discharge. Now we are sure that our phone is completely discharged. Now you can charge your phone but don't turn it on yet. When phone reaches 100% then you can turn on your phone and disconnect your charger.

well when i got phone first time it was on like 80%. It's not wrong at all, it's just system that sometimes report wrong battery percentage.
It's this method working
Hey above 2 people , is that method of discharging the full battery (system + recovery) working good ??? . I'm about to try it, my Nokia 3 is discharging on it's own from 100-15% when it's idel it's just 9 hrs since full charge.

Pixel 2 battery quick drain after charging

I usually charge my almost new Pixel 2 up to 80-85% to protect the battery.
After each charge , I get faster battery drain until it reaches 60-65%.
I am continuing my post here, the app seem to limit text size.
As the battery level drops, stand by drain reduces a lot as well . From about 2% an hour at 80% it reaches 0,7% when at 30%. Battery seems to last much longer between 60 and 30% .
I am thinking about returning the device. Any advice is welcome.
I have tried resetting the battery by full charging when powered off to no effect.

1) Charge your phone to ~80% and then disconnect. Use your phone normally and see how the battery drains
Now test step 2 and see how the battery drain compares with step 1
2) This time charge your phone to 100% and then wait about 30 min before disconnect

Thank you for your reply.
Charging to 100% and leaving it there doesn't change anything, tried that already. Seems to have a quick drain to about 60% as well.
Tried this twice actually, both phone on and off.
Resetting the phone might help?
My previous Pixel 1 data was copied into this phone using the cable, if of any importance.

There were instances where restoring from another phone or from a backup could increase the change of issues. Your new Pixel 2 should of already created back ups in google drive. Just make sure your info is backed up in case there is something important on your phone.
1) Try resetting the phone, then while setting it up, sign in with your google account and restore from from most recent back up(which was created on Pixel 2)
If this helps you resolve the issue, then great. If not, try resetting the phone again, but this time don't restore anything and setup your phone as new
Ok, tried option 2 directly.
I will return with feedback. Now I am traveling and stand by drain is not very representative. But accu battery sot went up, so I am a bit optimistic.
Thank you.

Question Battery charge to only 85%

Curious about whether many set charge to only 85%.
I am not a heavy user so not charging fully is not a problem.
Is there any evidence that doing incomplete charge extends battery life?
My previous phone Huawei Mate 20 pro was overnight charged to 100% for over 2 years and battery was as good as original in my experience.
I've set to 85% every since it was introduced. Find it more convenient, as seemingly, it gets charged faster to set level. It probably does prolong battery life to certain extent but to me that's not overwhelmingly important
Not super important to me either (I usually upgrade devices every year or so), but since a similar feature was introduced in OnePlus phones (limit charge to roughly 80-85-ish then finish to 100 before alarm or normal wake up time), I've been using Tasker to do the same thing. Limit charge to 85 and turn off fast charging, then an hour before alarm sounds, turn on fast charging and turn off the 85% limit. When I get up in the morning phone is at 100% and has only been there for about 15 minutes before removing it from charger. Seems to work pretty well.

I only charge to 85% as it will extend battery life. You can see in the chart I charged the phone initially to 100% (tall bars) then I charged to 85% (small bars). You'll essentially get 3 charges to 85% for 1 charge to 100% battery wear wise.
i dont cares, as i will buy S23 Ultra Pro Max soon

From what I understand, it's the lesser of the evils. Charging to 100% is still not great over a long period of time (years I'm guessing) but leaving it on charger after reaching 100% is worse.
