Samsung International Warranty - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Questions & Answers

Hi.
I have bought Samsung galaxy note 20 ultra N986U1 model from USA to India. Right now I'm in india and my mobile display blacked out suddenly. When I reached out to service centre they said warranty is not valid for internation device and I agreed to pay the cost for th display. But now after waiting for almost a month they are informing part is not available or they could not procure it from U.S . When I asked replacement they said that is not possible for international device.
They asked another 2 days time to check further action with thier higher authorities.
Have anybody came across such situation? Even if it is International device it ie samsung liable to repair it has I have valid invoice. Will they refund me money or what will be further action I should do. Please advise

I think they don't need to import display as it should be same for all models.

No due to processor different when they fix e indian variant display the front camera was not working.

Samsung warranty is only honored by the country of the device that it was intended to be sold in. It's always been like this as far as I remember, it shouldn't be and I feel your frustrations and pain. Perhaps find a contact in the USA if you have a U model and have them submit it in for warranty repair evaluation.

You can try Aliexpress by using vpn, they had some slight defective panel of Note 10 not sure about Note 20 but you can search. It was around 10k-20k.

Reset the phone in Indian display then check camera.

Just want share. Black screen of death occurred to my imported hk variant n20u yesterday when I woke up. The phone is still working and still responding to touch input. It is working fine on Dex. It's just the display that went out.
Basically I tried forced reboot, clear cache, reflashed the full firmware and rebooted several times all using adb but screen is still totally black even on recovery and download mode. I lost hope and was convinced that it's my screen is broke.
However, I was surprised when the screen suddenly revives itself after leaving it for a day. I don't know why.

Galaxy S7 gap

I have gaps mostly all over the edge as in the pics. Please zoom in to see them clearly. Is this normal? Manufacturing defect?
Just checked my S7... I don't have the same gaps as per your pictures. Mine sits completely level on all sides.
Would probably try and swap it for a new one if possible.
Does it cause any issues?

As I said this is already my 3rd replacement unit. The last two times I went for replacement they said they can't accept this as issue enough to give me a replacement. Yet somehow they gave me after lot of talk. Samsung service is so bad
Apologies I didn't see anywhere in your post where you said it was your third replacement.
Potentially ask for one last return and see if they can get one from a different batch. I had reboot issues with my S7, went through 2 more with same issue, and eventually they got one sent down from a different city, different batch and it has been flawless.
Was lucky the person I dealt with had the patience to go through the whole ordeal for me.
If it doesn't cause any performance issues, then you could always just cover it up with a case as a last resort but it doesn't look TOO bad from the pictures.

i totally agree with u...Samsung service is the worst...my xperiance was that they had my phone for 10 days and did nothing to my phone...i have grey lines on my display although they are not visible in every situation but when they are visible its a little bit anoying...so i sad to them to change the screen and they sad yes they will and at the end i got my phone intact with no replacement or whatsoever...when i had similar problem with Sony xperia the storry is diferent they replaced the screen in one week and its flawles now(my mom is using it)...so yea in my situation Samsung service is the worst so far!!
I've been lucky with my experiences although there quality control is meh. I also had reboot issues with my S6. The S6 was purchased from an official retailer which took no responsibility but Samsung told me to send it directly to them. Had it back within 2 weeks with a brand new charging board and motherboard which solved the reboot issue. Even had one of their reps call me to make sure the problem was fixed which was astonishing.
Then as per my above post, with my S7 rebooting (purchased from Samsung store this time), they went through the trouble of getting me brand new handsets each time until eventually I got one that worked.

Oops somehow I missed to include that it's my 3rd replacement in OP. Sorry. So for the reboot issue you faced after the replacement period, you had to go to Samsung service center and got one from another batch? I want to know is it possible to tell them to get me one from another batch considering the number of times I replaced.

I pointed out to them that my original and replacements had all been from the same batch and all faulty and asked for one that was carrier branded cause I was desperate to get a working phone. By luck, they had run out of silver stock from all carriers at this specific branch. First he offered me a different colour, but then proceeded to call the other branches. The only silver available in the country was carrier branded but since there is virtually no difference between the carrier models in my country, I told them I'll take it. They sent it down for me, 2 days later I had it in my hands and I'm still using it now.
I think there is no harm in asking whether you could potentially get one sent down from another store/batch but don't demand one either. Just be careful not to come off as rude. I have some friends who work at phone stores and even though they can transfer stock from other stores, they won't put in the effort for rudely demanding customers (bearing in mine most of them haven't had 3 replacements like you).
Good luck

I am on my second s8 plus .first one had yellow tint on the bottom half of the screen. Phone number 2 has the red screen issue.
I spoke with samsung today and I was told the update for the uk is coming in the next 2 weeks . A hour later I phoned back and told them I want my phone replaced
And was told I would get a new one on Tuesday.
The update only works in adaptive mode and some people have reported that the issue still remains after the update and others are happy with the fix .
If my 3rd s8 plus has any issues it's refund time for me . Not paying nearly £800 for a subpar product . For that money the phone has to be spot on and if samsung can't make the screen perfect that should reflect on the price . 499 at the most .
@tredstone79 i got mine through carphone warehouse on upgrade. Do i have to go through them or through samsung direct do you know? Thanks
My update came through about 2 hours ago. On EE
I have called samsung uk who straight away are delivering a new one tommorow. As you say the update just helps in adaptive mode and the others are still red as you say. If it doesnt work again then il get a refund if i can.

Hi Steve. I dealt with car phone warehouse when I had the s6 plus that had a yellow tint .
I went in store and none of the staff would admit the screen was yellow .they said if they return it to samsung and they find no fault car phone has to pay out of there own pocket.
They advised me to take it to a samsung store and have it checked out but the samsung store couldn't help me because I didn't buy it from them.so in the end I sold it on eBay. Car phone is a terrible place to buy a phone from.
I purchased my s8 direct from Samsung uk online .I phoned them about the red tint and said I wasn't happy and they are collecting mine on Tuesday and at the same time giving me my new phone. So it's a front door exchange.
If you need to return yours to Car phone insist on a exchange and not a repair. I wasn't even tempted to deal with Car phone when they offered the free speaker for buying the s8.

Got the update last night too, on 3 but pretty sure their phones are unlocked so not sure if that makes a difference.
It has seemed to solve the problem after a bit of fiddling though. First reboot took forever though thought the thing had died
I've got the update come through this morning but nothing wrong with my screen should I still update anyone know please?
Yeah update as it has other fixes. It won't change your display unless you play with settings.
I've received it - first last week adds some RGB customisations and this one today adds curve customisations. However my screen is fine.
i flashed mine to EVR (UK EE) and got the updated straight away. seems that carriers aren't necessarily in the dark ages this time around?
I think carriers are getting hassle from customers so worked quicker to get it out.

Pop up camera risk

Hi, this might sound silly but I found the camera pop up when there is incoming WhatsApp video call. Is there a way to disable this? I find it dangerous if I get an incoming call when the phone is in my pocket. Might damage the pop-up mechanism?

That doesn't look good. Where did you buy it from. I also bought one form Spain but mine hasn't been delivered yet. Can you not send it back? This should be a manufacturing fault.
we are beyond the calibration phase ? I bought it from powerplanetonline. I don't want to send it to Spain because the seller told me it would take around 2-3 month untill they have the parts ? I asked xiaomi UK to fix it and they told me to go away and next time to buy it from them, although on their website says that I can claim warranty anywhere in EU if it was bought from EU. I asked xiaomi UK to fix it with money they told me nope and recommend me to go to a local repair shop(not authorised repair because they don't have any in UK). the repair shop opened it and the pop up camera motor is fried, and there is no spare parts at the moment.
So this phone got me thinking about the fake nature of Xiaomi, like saying on their website I can claim warranty but on the email said fu*k off.
I still can't believe that a manufacturer refuses to fix even with money what is their fault to begin with. ?
that should be illegal.

I totally agree with you. Xiaomi UK should provide you support as UK is still part of EU till the end of the year..
I used the same source but my shipping has been stuck. Can I ask how long did it take for you to get yours? Mine is now on a week stuck on in-transit but didn't get any closer. I already regret my decision buying from them. (sorry for the off topic)
What if you search for the motor online and try to order it from china? Aliexpress is a good source. I have seen on youtube its not hard to open and change the motor. On the other hand powerplanetonline has 2 years of warranty. Worst case I would use them.
I had the same issue as you did. it took them 10 days to arrive, because of Nacex. beware on what date they're gonna say it was delivered. I got mine on june 1st but the courier said it was delivered on 29 May. that difference cost me the return period and I couldn't return it because when I noticed the issue 2 weeks passed from 29 May, but I could've return it if they said it was delivered on june 1st like it happened. Please cancel your order. if you'll need warranty you are screwed. I thought that if I buy it from Spain, xiaomi uk will fix it but no. If anything will happen with the phone you will be stuck as I am. The motor isn't available anywhere, I looked everywhere, it's similar with the k20 pro motor but with different contact points.

I opened a warranty claim on powerplanet website and they said they can't fix it untill they get their parts. I was like whaaaat? it's warranty, I don't care. it's gonna take a long time if you use warranty from them. because they need to send it to xiaomi and then xiaomi will fix it or not if they have the parts and then send it back to powerplanet and then powerplanet will send it back to you. And you see how long it takes only to get an order directly from them, not to mention al this back and forth. I now voided the warranty anyway, opening the device to see what's wrong with it.
Another thing that you should keep in mind is, I think the storage or ram has some problems, like it always forgets settings, at system level, sometime I get an animation, next time I get another one, wallpapers, icons, dark mode, wifi passwords, background apps.
Not to mention that after the pop up camera issue, the phone starts to heat up like crazy, every component from CPU to battery is above 43c hot, from 10h of SoT now I get maximum 5h. I understand it's a defective unit and it may not affect everyone, but when you have problems with the phone and Xiaomi tells you they will not fix it even if you pay.. it's crazy

You can easily determinate what version it is. If the bootloader still locked you can check the firmware version. Here //c.mi.com/oc/miuidownload/detail?device=1900380 you can see what version the global or the eeu has and check what you have. (put https: infront of the link)
I dont think I can cancel my order. I will probably wait for now and see what happens but I may send it back right away its arrived and claim for refund. I have the mi 9t pro potentially with the same motor and working fine.
Even if I would buy one form ebay or amazon could end up with the same result. I have a few days to think about it I guess.
I ordered the 8gb version not sure what you get but potentially the Ram should be better then on the 6gb. What you describe is more like a firmware issue not hardware but its hard make statement as it has a faulty part, which may cause most of your problems.
I have the EU rom on it. but they might have sideload it. imei checker from xiaomi website sais it's international version but I don't understand what that actually means, it might just mean that it's not china version . Anyway xiaomi doesn't want to deal with it anyway.
I applied for unlocking the bootloader so I can install the global rom maybe this is what causes the issues, being an international version but with a EU rom, I don't know, I'll update you once I'll unlock the bootloader

Was the box open? If not I don't think they loaded a different firmware. Shame to Xiaomi for the lack of support. You can try to flash the global rom on it once the BL unlocked. I have the global mi9t pro and flashed the eea rom on it and was able to lock the BL after. Normally if you flash a different region firmware on a device and try to lock the BL would cause brick. Not sure if this would be the same with the poco.

the box was sealed in that plastic thing, I don't remember if it had a warranty sticker between the box and the lid.
If they didn't sideload it it means that Xiaomi is lying through their teeth.
Anyway I think xiaomi might refer to the fact that if you buy it from them you can claim warranty anywhere in EU, I don't know.
The thing is I'm not even mad about the camera anymore, I wasn't using it anyway, but what drives me crazy is the heating issue ? I'm typing here only with xda app opened and it hot like crazy.
sometimes when I disable and enable MIUI optimisation in developer options it cools itself. but I think it forgets after a half an hour and start to heat up again ???

I checked to see where is from, check this out: ???
I checked the imei and it says:
Sales region: Cambodia
Activation country: China
Nice one, so they did side load the EU rom, and that's why xiaomi refuses to fix it

I dont think this this is relevant. The poco is not for the chinese market they have the k30 pro there. I doubt they would have side loaded anything specially if the bootloader is locked. They would have leave it unlocked. This was the case with the k20 pro sales last year.
Why it has Cambodia ?? :silly:
When you requested a repair from xiaomi uk they asked the imei and the serial? Did you question why they saying this isn't an eu version?
the sales region is Cambodia, this is something I discovered on Imei.info
Xiaomi uk said only that they can't help me because in their database my phone appears as no warranty supported ? although it came with warranty card stating that xiaomi is legally obligated to repair my phone ?
If it was an european version I think xiaomi would've consider my warranty
You can try buying a K20 Pro motor a solder some wires to fix your camera, it should work, they seem the same

we are beyond the calibration phase [emoji23] I bought it from powerplanetonline. I don't want to send it to Spain because the seller told me it would take around 2-3 month untill they have the parts [emoji849] I asked xiaomi UK to fix it and they told me to go away and next time to buy it from them, although on their website says that I can claim warranty anywhere in EU if it was bought from EU.
[emoji848]
that should be illegal.

the sales region is Cambodia, this is something I discovered on Imei.info
Xiaomi uk said only that they can't help me because in their database my phone appears as no warranty supported ? although it came with warranty card stating that xiaomi is legally obligated to repair my phone
If it was an european version I think xiaomi would've consider my warranty

Right mine turned up this morning. There is still no update on NACEX website still shows in-transit. I have contacted powerplanet last week where they advised the package has been sent according to the service they advertise on the website. This clearly didn't happen, cause it has been posted with the economy service instead of the express service, which should have taken up to 3 days and what I have paid for. I wouldn't recommend anyone to go with them...
Haven't opened the box yet. It doesn't have any factory seal over the bottom just the foil wrap around the box. Where did you check those info regarding the imei please? Just want to check mine before open it.

Question S908E change screen

Hello,
I've bought my Galaxy S22 Ultra in the UAE in February, and I don't know how today my screen cracked.
Phone never felt, with protective case, was in my pocket. Anyway i'm not here for that.
I left the UAE last april, and now live if France.
UAE and Europe doesn't have the same model (S908E vs S908B)
My local store told me that he can't change my screen because pieces for the two models are differents.
Do you know if the screen really has differents references for each models? or if he totally bul**** me.
Anyway I'm stucked cause I can't apply for smart-repair-service from samsung french website, telling me that my product is not a valid model.
thanks for any lead you can provide
Ship it back in UAE and fix it there if Samsung.fr can't
Was your local store an actual Samsung store? If not, I recommend taking it to someone else, because the guy you talked to is full of s**t. I think he is just going by the model number of the phone and not the part number of the display.
Otherwise, you may need to send it directly to Samsung for repair.

Question Canadian Samsung Service Center refuses to replace the cracked screen of a US device

I cracked the screen of my S22 Ultra (S908U1) in Toronto. I took my device to the service center here and they totally refused to operate on the device since the Canadian version is different (S908U). They told me that the components are different for both models, hence they cannot replace the screen on a US model. I thought the difference in variants is limited to carriers and network but the hardware (at least the screen and digitizer) would remain the same. Am I wrong? It's proving to be impossible to get the screen for a US model fixed in Canada.
Any feedback guys?
Given that you live in Canada is there a reason for not buying a Canadian model?.
My primary reason for buying a native device is to avoid situations like the one you are in.

I'm pretty sure that the components and the position inside the phone are the same. You could have a look at some disassembly videos, but I see no reason why they don't want to repair the screen. Try with another service centre maybe
Both the U and U1 models are the North American versions. The only difference is the U1 is unlocked. Hardware-wise, they are the same.
