ok so i've searched all over the place and all i see is the actual camera unit for sale. i can't find the outside piece thats on the case (the glass piece). mine is all scratched up and my pics look like ****. all blurry and fuzzy looking. i'd like to replace it, but can't find that piece. any help would be appreciated. thank you guys.

Thanks, mine needs this too. Odd since I've kept this thing in a soft cloth or leather case with felt padding on the inside the whole time...

thanks for the links. i actually saw these when i searched the web. i was hoping to only get that small glass piece that covers the camera instead of buying the whole back cover. not sure if it actually comes like that, but if anyone else has any info on it that would be great.

From the links, it looks like it's built into the back casing. Kinda makes sense though since it would have to be pressfit on I guess.

Mine too!
I have had the unfortunate results like yourselves. However what I did serves me well enough.
I took a screen protector and cut a small square. Placing that over the camera has removed the haze from my pictures.

hmmmm kind of serves you right for keeping your phone unprotected in a pocket with keys or lose change.
next time round get a case/pouch mine covers my entire phone protecting from both scratches and impact damage.
BTW the DZ cam is pretty crappy and blurry any way ........ even by pinhole lens phone cam standards so don't expect miracles once replaced.

Umm, no. My Z takes pretty good photos. Of course very low light situations will result in longer shutter time, and increased chances for blur due to camera or the subject moving. But in most conditions good photos are very possible, and mostly a matter of technique and experience. Manually adjusting ISO, white balance, taking advantage of what light is present, and bracing the camera can all have major impact on the quality of the photo, even in lower light situations. Moral of the story your problem is likely more the user, and not the equipment. I don't mean that in a pejorative way. But while not the best camera phone around, good photos are possible with the Z, with the proper technique.
I used a mild lens restorer on mine fixed her right up. Perfect pictures again

No offence bro but considering the fact i was a professional photographer for 6 years straight and still do some work now as a pro photographer.
I have no "problems" with photographic "technique"
Maybe my ideas of 'clear' and 'sharp' digital images is a little more informed and nuanced than yours. But compared to a few other 5mp phone cameras IMHO the Desire Z is on average at best and poor if you want to be critical.

Hard to take your comment of "no offence" seriously, as you are bragging about your photog experience and how much "more informed" you are than me (no basis for any such claim). Why not keep it to a technical discussion, instead of boasting about how awesome you are, "bro"?
Largely comes down to expectations and opinion. Camera phones are largely for spur-of the moment snapshots (not serious photography). For this, the Desire Z is just fine. We are also talking about a phone that is a year and a half old. In its time, its camera was much better (especially low light) than the iPhone iteration of the time (3GS). Were there camera phones at the time that were a bit better, yes, but not drastically. More recent phones have significantly better cameras, and the One X looks to blow away most the competition (except the Nokia Pureview's monster 41 MP camera). But seeing as every other spec on smartphones has come a long way in the past year and a half, its not really fair to compare the Z to newer phones.
Also, seeing as the OP is just looking to restore his present technology to a previous condition, calling it "crappy and blurry" doesn't really help him out at all.
Agree with previous poster, seriously if you want good pics you get an slr or dedicated rig. Most people don't carry that around. For what it is the camera on this phone is very good to good enough depending who you ask and their expectations. Sure beats carrying around a point and shoot or slr multi lens combo. Like I told the OP if your considering getting a new back then try cleaning it up with a mild abrasive like a lens restorer, CD scratch remover something of that nature. I used the stuff for headlights it was like 5 bucks. Don't go crazy I used super minimal pressure and a soft paper towel and it took all of 30 seconds to clear up no joke. Good as new and I haven't had to do it again. In my case it was the anti-reflective coating in the glass, since it was shot who cares right? Came off and pics are sharp again. In the future if I actually scratch it I'll probably buy a replacement but that did it for me. Just my 2 cents.
I had the same problem as you, but I managed to fix it using a polish dedicated to car headlights.

Hi I just got my new Note 5 from T-mobile and I noticed main camera is not dead center unlike my note 3 or other phones I have I went back to the T-mobile store and guys there noticed the same thing and we checked the one on the display none of them were centered actually any body know about this issue store guys did not want to exchange it because they are all like that they said. any body know anything about this issue?
Mine is the same way, went to the store and we looked at the displays... All the same. =/ The guy suggested it might be because it's their first unibody design, which sounds plausible.

Just confirmed with tmo tech that it should dead centered and mine sounds very loose clicking when moving phone around.
I think Samsung made some defective phones again lust like note 4 camera issues.
I believe it is due to the lens stabilization. If you turn the camera lens to face you, then open the camera app, the lens snaps to center, and visibly moves as the phone shakes.

You sir are absolutely correct! I found this out later last night as well.
Fwiw both mine and my wife's S6 have a lens that moves off center. It doesn't affect pictures or videos in the least.
Mine was recording clicking sound made by camera moving around as phone shake when recording video at tmobile store guys recorded video in storage room where it's very quiet I returned it I don't think I'll buy another note5 or any samsung phone untill they start to make good devices, my wife has the s6+ and does not any issues that I had with the note5.

What do you mean by this ISO?. I think you meant to say this is OIS which is moving camera lens assembly yes it should move and wiggle when not in use, when in use it should move to compansate motion and it shouldn't make clicking sound that records in to the video.

I don't understand how your camera lens is making such a clicking noise laud enough to be caught by your mic... If that's the case than that's really something wrong. And peopel are over reacting returning their phone for lensbnot being centered when that's normal if you want recordba video and while spinnign stop recording and you will see how the lens is not straight

On my small Pixel (black 128GB edition) I get severe lens flares in situations, that were never a problem for any smartphone before.

I'd like to know if there are devices out there that don't have this problem. You won't see it in all lighting situations, but it's very pronounced in some - where it shouldn't be.
I have.noticed this today on my camera I attached a photo the halo or flair can be seen at the bottom the pale grey around the bottom left and right. Like you say, it's only in certain light conditions and certain angles. Must be the glass that surrounds the lense.
Looks like the the phone has been rushed out and not tested properly.

This is definitely a design floor as happens if the camera is on its sides, upside down and normal. Really didn't expect this from such a highly priced phone.

Well be prepared for disappointment. My phone has it too. I guarantee every Pixel does. Probably because of the subtle curve on the rear glass.

No way. It's a design flaw. The question is how does that digital picture site
give this phone such a high rating and they never saw this in any of their pictures?
This just doesn't add up. I am awaiting the XL to come back in stock to order
but this is a deal breaker for me unless this is a defect on a few phones.

Yes, I fully believe they will be able to correct for this issue, at least SOMEWHAT, in software. I think the question will be whether or not they can actually preserve detail in the area where the flare is occurring. Google has pulled off some amazing feats with this camera just because of its software... they're not going to claim to do something they can't do.

According to Google, yes. The lens assembly is subject to very tight manufacturing tolerances. Every Pixel is going to have this issue.
Got my new phone, and as stated above I still have the flair so I'm really.imterested into what Google can actually do. I'm off to the park with my dog layer so I'll take lots of photos and upload them here if they have any flare issues.
Don't accept this. Take it back to your point of sale. Get another phone. I am so ****ing done with this.

Out of maybe 100 photos I have taken with this phone, you can maybe see it in like 3-4 photos. Only really happens on my end if I am shooting directly into a light source which most photos are pointing away from a light source. It's not like every photo comes out like this.
I am very very happy with this phone and the camera.

Just been to the park and took some photos only one photo out of about 50 had a halo. I believe Google will fix this.
I've added some of the photos i took today.
Is there a way to disable Selfie [Front Facing] Camera because the amount of times I swipe to get to Pro or Panorama and end up in Selfie mode is getting beyond ridiculous!
As a professional Photographer there are times we need to get the Camera out in an instant, else to miss that all important shot.
I find it utterly stupid the way you swipe is so closely similar to either brings you from Auto to Pro or bring up Selfie mode.
It is almost equally frustrating to try and focus a subject in Auto Camera only to toggle Brightness slider, but that's another subject…

Wouldn't you have dedicated tools for whatever job you might be at? Like, if you're anticipating needing to capture important images depending on where you are wouldn't you have your dedicated camera on you and not be relying on a smartphone camera?
Personally, I see our phones as phones first, media players second and cameras third. Compact advanced P&S are always better than what our phone's camera can do, anyway. At least that's just my opinion. They also tend to offer crazy long optical zooms, as well.
Anyway, looking through the settings myself, I don't see any option to do this. At least not natively. There's always third party camera apps like Open Camera than you can try out and see if that helps. Double-tapping the power button to fire up the camera app hasn't been fast enough? Or is it just an issue of what your last camera setting might have been that's causing the real issue?

This isn't a debate, I simply want to be able to use the in-built Camera, in Pro Mode, selecting Manual Focus/Shutter Speed/ISO using their sliders WITHOUT "accidentally" going to 'Selfie' camera.

I don't think you can turn it off. You may have to install another camera app and use it with your phone rather than using the default camera.

I stumbled across this site also looking to disable selfie mode. I DESPISE it and it's always getting in my way. To the idiots responding negatively, those are the douche bags taking pictures of themselves.
Re: to the guy condescendingly questioning why somebody would not use an actual dedicated camera. You may not one depending on what your photograhing. Often times you can get equally good results with lighting and a newer model cell phone in pro-mode. I personally have a decent DSLR and always use my phone out of pure convenience. Though with that said, if i was a photographer working with clients, i would never show up with only a cell phone.
If some Samsung suits ever read this, selfie mode sucks and is one of the most ridiculous and annoying features i have ever seen on a phone.
I fully agree that this is an annoyance, along with the brightness slider getting in the way when attempting to focus in that area of the screen. And the flash popout menu should simply be a toggle button in my view.
That said, there may be a couple of uses for these sticks that some people use to facilitate their grandstanding. I better not get into that, though.

in short, yes. you can disable the FFC, but it wont help. Matter of fact itll probably mess everything up worse than you think. In order to disable it, youd have to mess with the kernel, as there is no toggle for the FFC. In addition, the app itself will always look for the FFC and offer you its respective options from within the app such as it being in the list of camera modes, which sounds like your ACTUAL problem. So, the long answer is no, not really. Not with the stock camera app anyways

Have you ever worked with a DSLR? unless you already have it out and ready, there is no capturing of the moment with those. Point and shoots too. They have to boot every time you turn them on which takes time and causes people to miss the shot they wanted.

Yup. Sure have. Several different kinds. Unless you already have anything out and ready, smartphone, DSLR, P&S, Walgreens disposable camera, there is no capturing of the moment (if it's something faster than you getting the cam ready).
So, yes. I have and it's not hard. Also, as you may already know, there's a wide range of quality between different cameras and with that various levels of speeds with their capturing abilities. Somehow, some cameras find a way to capture fast moments. I know, right? It's crazy. Like I said before, it depends on you. How you prepare. What you are doing. Where you are going. Event? You should be prepared? Random occurrence? Smartphone. I mean, it seems easy enough to me.
But that's just me, I guess.

of course it depends on you, thats the point
also, not everyone who owns a DSLR, P&S, film cam etc etc etc has them out while a moment you want to get a pic of occurs, what do you reach for? the moment is obviously not going to last long and you have your phone and a DSLR. You just had your DSLR out and taking pics of far away buildings, so you have a 70/200 mm lens on it and the exposure is long for the same reason. Oh, forgot to mention that the thing youre wanting to take a pic of is 15 ft from you and moving. Now what? Your phone is still just a phone? and i should have been "prepared" for this somehow?

Im a Home Inspector, I use my Samsung to run my report programs, bluetooth my moisture meters, fly the drone and take photos. I do not want the selfie feature and would love to turn it off. Hell, I barely use the phone feature on my Samsung.

might be best putting a piece of tape over the aperture. youll likely need root to do this, but by now im betting that someone made a magisk module to disable the cameras. If youre still wanting to do this, id look at magisk nowadays. in yesteryear, it was a very specific thing, but nowadays i bet something thatll get ya where you need to be is out there. i just dont mess with root enough anymore to be knowledgeable about it.

I discovered this problem whenever I try to close the camera app by swiping up--forgetting that the phone has different gestures than my old phone. I'm not sure why there is such an urgent need for a selfie, such that it has it's own gesture. Many people put tape over the selfie camera, so being able to disable it makes more sense than giving it its own gesture.
BTW, not to fan the flames, but the phone makers go through a lot of effort to market their phone cameras as high enough quality to be used by pros, so I'm not sure what prompted 'his' lecture about when to use a phone camera and when not to use a phone camera.

I haven't been able to make my mind so i decided to see what u guys think.
So now im rocking a 256gb pixel 7 pro.
My old phone was one plus 7 pro which is still in a very good shape. Like my all phones it was rooted.
My wife's old phone is an galaxy note 20 ultra which is in a good shape as well but not rooted.
I have to give out one of them and keep one.
Im really confused.
The OnePlus 7 pro with its no hole punch screen and its huge huge support and mod community. I really like the privacy of having a popup front camera. Note that i had to root my phone to get volte.
On the other the note 20 ultra. Damn this phone is one heck of a piece of hardware. I think the version we have is the oxynos. This phone is supported in my country and many others without any modifications or rooting. So here its advantages are, 5g, volte, esim capabilities.
What do u guys think?
I have oneplus7pro, the best phone so far,
but it is a time to move to the newer one,
and pixel 7 pro has the best software support and the easiest way to get root and other things.
however, that useless hole on the middle of the screen is highly annoying.
I have a OnePlus 7T and have been thinking of going back to it, it fully supports 2-SIM w/Different RingTones. Unfortunately, the last OS update for it was v12/12.1 and was pushed out in Nov/Dec 22. The only thing keeping me from going back is the Cameras on the Pixel 7 Pro. If you're doubting to get a Pixel 7 Pro - get the OnePlus 10 Pro instead.
Samsung note 20 is clearly the better device for multiple reasons.

Those a cool phones, have a coworker using one of them and the stylus pen appears to work great if you're taking inventory on new equipment.
I have personally used many OnePlus phones including the 7 Pro. I have had several Samsung phones all of which were sent back for various flaws too numerous to discuss here. Every OnePlus phone has been excellent for me! I highly recommend that you stay with the OnePlus phone because they just work! YMMV

Are you deducing that no face unlock would be a win...? Or do you just greatly prefer the sliding front facing camera (so that it's not always visible)?

never used and I genuinely will not ever use face unlock.
I'm using front camera only for video calls and would prefer low quality under display camera somewhere on the very top corner.
It is highly annoying that manufacturers cannot deliver this simple solution.

Gotcha, thanks. Just note that it is *not* a simple solution to put a modern front facing camera at either of the front corners of the display (due to hardware restrictions). The only way to do so in a simple manner would prevent the front facing camera from being utilized properly without holding the phone in landscape mode - which I don't imagine many people would feel comfortable doing =/

It's not a simple solution because almost no one has your needs. Most people want Face unlock. And they want it to work. They demand more out of a Front Facing Camera than a low quality video call device

I don't and will never use a front facing camera for unlocking my device, but I have to agree with you. People want a front-facing camera for that face. Unlock in for high quality video calls with family and friends. Also, putting a camera under the display so you can't see it should not be assumed to be "simple."
We often lose sight of what it took to develop and make these devices that we use from the planning, the development, the gathering of the raw materials, the engineering, etc. Are truly marvelous feats. That can be said for almost everything around us that we take for granted! We are very blessed and lucky to be living in this time!

The huge number of people that demanded it on the Pixel 6 Pro. Then the number that complained about how slow it was at first.
Feel free to go look at that forum.
What YOU want is not what most people want. And BTW, that camera is barely noticeable. I have the Energy ring and I still barely see it.
