Rattle Noise from inside the Phone/Camera - OPPO Find X2 Pro Questions & Answers

Hey guys,
I own a Oppo Find X2 Pro since June. So far everything was fine with the phone.
But two weeks ago the phone started to have a clearly audible rattling from inside (seems to be somewhere near the camera-unit).
I read that some phones with OIS seem to have the problem with a "moving" Lens or sth similar.
My problem is that the rattling just started 2 weeks ago and in the months before there wasn't any sound. Also there seems to be no sound when I'm inside the camera app & at 5x zoom.
I sent the phone to the local repair service (in Germany) and they just sent it back with the comment "The housing tolerances you complain about (gap dimensions, play or slight rattling of the mechanical parts, functions that are too smooth-running/sluggish etc.) correspond to the manufacturer's specifications and therefore do not constitute a defect."
So now the question is, is somebody else facing the same problem? If yes, did you have contact to Oppo/the customer service & what was their response? Because in my opinion the rattle is way to loud and there shouldn't occur such things with a 1000+€ phone.

Mines is very rattly when I shake it slow to, I just think that's normal because the lens moves, if it was firm then the ois would be **** I would say

Autofocus lens.
Switch on camera, and test again. With and without zoom, switch off camera and test again.

Most stablised cameras will do this these days. Its because they are suspended on a mechanism that isolates them from the phone chassis. Very similar to springs and shocks in your car.

Ok thanks for the answers guys.
When I open the camera app there is still a rattle without zoom. When I turn it into 5x zoom the rattle stops and doesn't come back again even when I go back to 1x (in this situation you can hear a very slight rattle only if you listen carefully in a silent enviroment).
But when I close the camera app or switch for example to the front camera and back to the rear, the loud rattle starts again.
What is worrying me is that there wasn't any rattle in the first months of usage and it only started a few weeks ago.
Even if the rattle is normal I don't think it should be that loud.

Mine rattles upon shaking no sound when simply opening the camera.

Was from the first day when you buy your phone. It's autofocus lens witch is all the time without power, when is needed then coils are powered, even with 5x zoom when you start shaking you can hear how this optic system tried making stable photo. In short explanation.

i also have a question my find x2 pros ultra wide angle camera is not perfectly in the center

I found this thread as I have this same issue with my magic 4 pro. I emailed support and they claimed its normal.....
The reason the little sound is in there is due to safety measures made for the water resistance feature. We can assure you that is nothing wrong with your device and it is often found at Honor Magic4 Pro because of its spec.

Camera lens (OIS) sound?

Hey all,
Just a quick question (No, I won't ***** about RMAing ****s left and right)
Do N5 camera lenses make small rattle-like noise when you type with touch vibration on?
I've seen somewhere that due to its OIS system, it will make some noise in certain condition
Just wanted to confirm
Thanks in advance

Yes, mine makes a rattle sound, but I don't think it's coming from the camera. I always thought that it was from the volume keys rattling.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
It can also be the vibrator motor.
If you hold the buttons, they can't rattle. Probably best not to shake the device though
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Yeah I can confirm that there is some other parts also rattling than buttons. This rattle appears when shaking phone to certain direction or tapping top of the phone (if you know what I mean). It seems to be camera lens or atleast the rattling seems to come from somewhere near camera.
Edit: the noise is indeed the lens. Just tried to tap it when using camera and there is no rattle cause I guess camera somehow "locks" the lens. Anyways, these devices are not made for unnecessary shaking and searching for rattling sounds. Just interesting to know the source of that little "rattle".
RMA RMA RMA.... Lol I kid.

[Q] Camera lens of centered

Hi I just got my new Note 5 from T-mobile and I noticed main camera is not dead center unlike my note 3 or other phones I have I went back to the T-mobile store and guys there noticed the same thing and we checked the one on the display none of them were centered actually any body know about this issue store guys did not want to exchange it because they are all like that they said. any body know anything about this issue?
Mine is the same way, went to the store and we looked at the displays... All the same. =/ The guy suggested it might be because it's their first unibody design, which sounds plausible.
Camera lens of centered
Just confirmed with tmo tech that it should dead centered and mine sounds very loose clicking when moving phone around.
I think Samsung made some defective phones again lust like note 4 camera issues.
I believe it is due to the lens stabilization. If you turn the camera lens to face you, then open the camera app, the lens snaps to center, and visibly moves as the phone shakes.

You sir are absolutely correct! I found this out later last night as well.
Fwiw both mine and my wife's S6 have a lens that moves off center. It doesn't affect pictures or videos in the least.
Mine was recording clicking sound made by camera moving around as phone shake when recording video at tmobile store guys recorded video in storage room where it's very quiet I returned it I don't think I'll buy another note5 or any samsung phone untill they start to make good devices, my wife has the s6+ and does not any issues that I had with the note5.

What do you mean by this ISO?. I think you meant to say this is OIS which is moving camera lens assembly yes it should move and wiggle when not in use, when in use it should move to compansate motion and it shouldn't make clicking sound that records in to the video.
Foy your information if I was intrested to iphone I would buy one instead of an android device with or without OIS built-in $800.00 device premium price premium device I expected from samsun.
Don't forget this is a forum that people exchange information bounce ideas between each other.

I don't understand how your camera lens is making such a clicking noise laud enough to be caught by your mic... If that's the case than that's really something wrong. And peopel are over reacting returning their phone for lensbnot being centered when that's normal if you want recordba video and while spinnign stop recording and you will see how the lens is not straight

5 Major flaws with this phone

#1: The sd/sim tray is so poorly designed it'll actually not slot into place properly and I've used this device for only a few minutes. This means the IP rating is basically useless since if anything sips in due to how the tray is designed it'll leak straight to the screen and everything else. I've tried to use minor force to slot in in the place "properly" but the thing is that the flat part that covers the slot wobbles meaning it is not static, which means we have a topkek moment a la Z1-5 flap issue all over again.
#2: The sd card reader is gimped, less than half (getting 1/3) the speeds compared to say the XZ1.
#3: Now let's talk about the elephant in the room shall we? The glass backside, It's not flat! Meaning it can't sit on anything with a slight decline like your bed, pillow, or anything slippery for that matter. You either buy a derpy case or live with the fact that this device can't even sit flat unless otherwise.
#4: Weight was added for no reason, and a lot of people tend to believe that weight equals quality, but in this case it had no reason whatsoever. And what's the best of it all?! Said weight made it thicker, which means they had plenty of space to add that headphone jack that was removed because they had to follow the fruitcake trend. And because it's rounded in the rear, it makes the actual thickness seem thinner than it's predecessor which is around 2-3mm thinner which has guess what? A headphone jack! And don't give me that BS about needed cooling, the S9 is thinner (about the same as the XZ1) and comes in both Exynos and SD flavors.
#5: Let's remind ourselves once again why the headphone jack was removed, not to mention a lot of regions won't even ship with any headphones (nordic region here) which felt kinda cheap, but at least they provided a dongle!
I got a pair of MDR-EX650AP and WH-H900N if anyone is wondering and both come in handy, trust me.
Goto admit I love my XZ2 and I only agree with you on No.2 and No.5...
2... Im using a Samsung 64GB 95mb/s SDCard andthe read speed is rubbish.. this is my second XZ2 and its exactly the same.. so it tells me theres a software issue.. In both the SONY Music app and using the home screen widget, from pressing play.. It takes about 3 secs before music starts playing.. and Im getting lag when accessing phot9os and files on SDCard... theres been 2 updates so far... 145 and 159.. and neither updates have fixed this
5.. Dont even mention the stupidity of removing the Headphone jack from devices ... its been a thorn in everyones side since HTC, the first Android Dev to follow Apple with this "Sheep" like trend on their U Ultra last March 17.. and now its a thing... do you know what really gets me is everybody complains about on forums, yet nobody goes on a Devs Twitter or FB page and says "I was going to buy your phone, but because you removed the 3.5 jack, Ive bought a Samsung instead"... do you know, if everyone started saying that.. we'd have the Jack back by 2019... because regardless of the device you actually buy.. theres nothing worse for a DEV than critisism on their front pages.
Anyway... I think the XZ2 is a gorgeous device, beautifully weighted, stunning.. yes, STUNNING and simple camera, great speakers.. anda great screen, No its not perfect.. buts its pretty good
I'd also add the downgrading of the front camera to 5mp from the 13mp in last year's XZ models. Though I wonder if that could have been a space issue at the edge for the module.
It's the one thing (well and the SD card speed) that is keeping me from upgrading from an XZ1. Though if the price gets low enough...
And #6 - no double tap to wake the phone... I am not sure why this was removed since the Sony X series.. its a real shame....

Camera isn't that bad. But don't use the Auto Mode!
I've made some comparisons (maybe i can show one later at home) and the auto mode is just bad. It makes blurry pictures, especially the darker areas. Switching to manual mode with auto settings raises the quality extremely. Don't know if that's a bug or whatever...
No wired video out is a big one for me...

Guys do you have problems with screen scrolling? I can see alot blur on screen when I scrool black tekst on white page. It makes me dizzy. Is it because poor pixel response time on that IPS panel? I had before Lenovo Zuk Z2 IPS and Lenovo Zuk Z2 Pro AMOLED and no problems on them at all. I have this on Oreo and this Android P beta... This LCD seems to be terrible... also too much of white colours, looks like milk splash on glass. Any way to fix it? Colour calibration does not help on these both issues.

In comparison, my Xiaomi Mi Mix displayed similar "material usage" after 1 year. Something's definitely wrong.

There is also a bend and scratch test on YouTube to demonstrate it.
Found 2 more flaws -.-
1. The Speakers are not Watercapable.
Took the phone into the shower with me... Sound volume dropped by 70% as soon as the phone got splashed with water.
2. Microphone placement!
They really placed the microphone beside the USB Port... Where do you place your little finger when you hold your phone at the ear? At the Bottom! To prevent this slippery phone from sliding out of your hands. If your placement is bad you will fully cover the microphone and then person on the other end of the call won't hear a thing! Happened multiple times to me before I realized this -.-

1. Water will block sound waves, not a huge amount you can do with a phone.
2. Not an issue for me as I use my left ear and my little finger is the other side of the USB.
My most annoying thing on this phone is the XZ2 is very slippery!! Cannot even sit calmly if there is a slight angle on the surface! Have to buy a case to prevent this though...

You are dumb. Speaker grill has some material that prevent water to drop inside and if water stays on grill, sound can't get through that water. Dry it and sound will increase again. That is common for all phones. This is not a flaw.

"Dumb" is impolite, but I can understand you.
Everyone who had physics in school should understand this behaviour.
Btw.
I hate 2 things
1. The DRM **** (it is my first Sony phone)
So I hope for a drm fix which doesn't reduce the camera quality if used with aosp and gcam.
2. The slow, undocumented sdcard performance of 20mb/sec.
The only flaw that stops me from buying anything from the XZ2 line-up is the sad lack of development support, specially custom kernel development.
Sadly enough.

[Q] Light Rattling Sound...?

Has anyone noticed a very slight rattling sound when you shake the phone very hard coming from the top of the phone...?
Could it be the Cameras or the Speaker possibly?
I am being a bit paranoid as I dropped the phone face flat on the floor but had ZERO damage, dent, scratch or anything.
Am I being overly paranoid????
That's interesting. I've also got a rattle. I've dropped the phone a couple of times, but not onto hard surfaces. Everything is working, so I assume it's probably nothing to worry about!

That's just the OIS in the camera lens. Every phone that have OIS do that. The lens needs to move to compensate the hand shaking. If you search for "JerryRigEverything teardown" on youtube he usually test the camera and you can see the movement of the lens. For example with this p40 pro teardown

Rattling?

Today accidentally discovered that the phone has a rattle to it. Never dropped or anything. First, I thought it was the S-Pen, but even with the pen out, there is still a rattle that seems to be coming from the camera module. Anyone else's phone does that? Is it normal or should I try swapping the unit?
Its just the camera lens don't worry my last 3 Notes have done it
Thanks. Found the videos talking about the same issue on S20+. Guess it's normal. Never noticed it before on any of my Sammies. Must be a "new phone paranoia". ?

Larger the camera the more it floats until you turn on the camera. Hence more noise. I would also suggest it's more sensitive while the camera is on to a hard hit /damage.

I am experiencing that same rattle too. It seems to go away when i turn on the camera, so this is definitely due to the much talked about rattle that the camera module had with the S20 Ultra as well..
I must say that the rattle is rather annoying and random and especially annoying when i have the phone in my pocket while jogging..At least it is good to know that it is not a faulty unit but rather a feature of the lens system.
I am getting a faint clicking noise whenever I exit the camera app. I can feel it on the device too. Is this normal?

Thanks, I suppose this is due to the different camera setup. I'm coming from a Note 9, which had OIS and is completely silent, but then again it doesn't have the new sensors.
Also remember when camera has stabilisation in it that could cause the rattle noise from camera since camera itself moves when you shake the phone.
I hardly hear rattle in mine but when I face screen down I can hear a loud click from camera area and then when I face it back up with screen up I hear the click again.
So yeah camera is basically moving or it's lenses.
This is normal as long you don't see any defect in camera when using it.

Yeah I read about the rattling when shaking the device, but nothing about noise when the camera app exits...
I had the same issue. I had battery and overheating issues as well so i requested an exchange device. The old device had the rattle however i noticed the new one doesn't. Really think Samsung messed up QC with this device.
Interesting... Samsung doesn't have any stock of my device to exchange at the moment, otherwise I'd have probably asked for one. I'll see how it pans out over the next few days...
Without the camera app open when uou hold the device flat then tilt it up 90 degrees you'll hear it click every time, it doesn't matter if it's in landscape or portrait view. With the camera app open you don't hear it. One of the lens uses electromagnets for stabilization, without the camera app open the lens is moving around since there is no power going to the magnets.

I have had my Note 20 ultra for 2 days and only this afternoon have I noticed this very loud rattle. I swear 100% that it wasn't there before. It also happens that this afternoon was the first time I tried wirelessly charging my phone. Is it possible that the wireless charger has somehow messed with the magnets that control the lens module?! I'm really annoyed and might send it back.

It's totally unacceptable for a 1399 device. Return it until you get a good one. By which time the note 21 ultra will be out. ?? Because they are all like that. I've had three different regional variants of the Note 20 Ultras, all same.
