If you enable the front camera you can see a small circle spin round the lens before appearing as a solid light alongside it.
I look forward to seeing what custom ROM developers can do with this, perhaps this LED can be triggered to light up (and stay on, until cleared) when notifications come through.
It is already available below. It works very well on my 8T and I purchased the premium version because it's so good.

I set it to only show for 5 minutes max after a notification and slow down the interval. I don't notice any significant effects on battery compared with a normal always on display.
I use the same app and battery life is fine. I have set it to repeat for 45 min maximum

I've started using this and it is awesome. Only one thing I'm getting is my phone locking up. (Unable to wake up screen)
I have to hard power off and restart.
Uninstalled the app and no lockups. Install the app and I'll start experiencing them again. I'm rooted with only Adaway and V4A. Maybe it's a setting in A11 I have as well? I really like the app and already bought it but it does cause my phone to lockup.

Hi, what's the key for hard power off on 8T.
Also, how did you install V4A.

I have no idea why it happened to yours, mine is working perfectly fine. It does override the stock AOD when it happens, but doesn't freeze my phone at all.

and V4A has been updated to support Android 11. Version 2.7.2.1 is available in magisk now. Install, open viper and follow prompts, it'll reboot. Some have had to use legacy mode in settings of v4a for it to work

I downloaded this yesterday and enjoy the notification ring. However it's definitely causing battery drain for me, so it will probably get uninstalled soon. I only have it on for a few messaging apps, not facebook or anything like that.
Also since installing, the screen doesn't always want to turn on, I had no issues prior and this app is the only thing that changed.

What do you mean when you say it doesn't want to turn on. Are you having to reboot your phone to get it to turn on. That's The issue I'm having.
I've disabled ambient display completely within the system settings and so far my screen hasn't locked up. Still testing it though.

More of it doesn't respond until I push the power button a few times. It doesn't happen every time, it's occasionally. But it's frustrating when it does that.

I got the app yesterday as well, works really well as you said, apart from the fact that the battery drains with this app.
Anyone know any way to make it less drain?
I'll say it again...this is the one to use...no battery drain, no lockups. It can notify you around the ring, or around the entire screen.
Just try it...what have you got to lose?

This is why I made this thread, third party notification apps tend to be a mixed experience as you can tell by the responses in this thread. I tried AodNotify today and I'm already annoyed by the fact I have to double tap to wake twice in order to wake the phone. Other users are experiencing crashes, battery drains and/or inconsistent notification alerts etc.
When the feature is built-in in a custom ROM, it just works. As in the screenshot below (from an older phone with LED):
Tried aodNotify app. Posting the battery usage screenshots.

This doesn't show the reality. Use the the dots on the top left to show the total device usage. It gives a much better impression.
I for myself don't see any impact on battery life using that app.

Hi. I write for AOL News and am looking for some feedback on the droid charge. I've used two different phones so far and found several bugs that no one has apparently been focusing on:
1.The camera/camcorder will freeze the entire phone sporadically forcing the user to reboot the system. This occurs about 1 in every 8 times the camera is used. especially if it's on more than a minute or two.
2. Clicking the 'Message' Icon will open the browser or even 'settings'. Again, forcing reboot.
3. The 'brightness' automatically changes to 0 even when the 'auto' option isn't selected and the phone isn't outside.
4. This one constantly happens; when in phone mode, the screen will go dark after only about 10 seconds and nothing will bring it back except hitting the power button. I've been told you're supposed to be able to 'shake' the phone to awake it out of sleep mode but this is not the case. Additionally, if you've set the power button to end calls, the phone will sometimes end calls on the first push and sometimes not.
The phone could be a great device but it's obvious there are SERIOUS design flaws inherent in the OS.

I haven't experienced any of those issues either.
As for number 4, I think that was a conscious design decision. I don't really like it either, but you can use Tasker or Locale to detect when you're in a call and change your timeout to whatever you want.

The phone isn't supposed to be waken by shaking it. You can change the time-out timing through the settings. I've never hung up the phone via the power button so I can't even comment on that one.

I have not experienced any of these on the 3 months with my phone. It locked up maybe once on the camera but never more than that.
I've had none of these issues and furthermore I second the above thoughts regarding locking three camera and the status bar brightness.

Count me in the camp that says I havent seen any of those issues. As far as the camera goes, the only issue is the substandard SD card that Sammy sends. You cannot record in HD because the card speed is too slow.
All the other issues you are seeing are unique.
Search these forums for them, if others have had the problem you will find someone asked about it.
If you do find them, I am sure that they will be very isolated.
I couldn't say about a totally stock phone as I flashed mine to gummy 1.9.1 on its very first boot, but I have never had a single problem with my phone.
I absolutely LOVE this thing, I have owned a TON of phones and IMHO this is hands down the best phone I've ever owned.
My boss bought a new Bionic last Friday and after playing with it for the day Friday I wouldn't swap my phone even for the Bionic (among other things, the screen SUCKS on the Bionic). My boss doesn't like it either, he is returning it tomorrow.

Never experienced number 1,2 or 4. But I have experienced number 3. Only happens though every couple of weeks. Hardly ever basically. It is weird though. I have no idea why my brightness changes even with my auto brightness off. Still a great phone though.

Lol, anytime!
It's a feature I don't think I could live without now.
I can honestly agree with ur first concern. My camera is wonky. I can take pics all day without flash enabled. But I turn on the flash and try to focus (tap to focus), and as soon as the pic is snapped, the screen goes black, causing me to do a battery pull. Happened to me on my former Charge, my current replacement Charge and my wife's Charge. Happened on stock unrooted, stock rooted, and with custom Roms on all firmware versions. And I can easily replicate it.

Sounds like you have some sort of agenda. Seeing as how nobody here so far has experienced this issues your referring to, I would say nothing is "obvious" at this point, nor do any of the issues above seem to be "serious", save for maybe the camera lockup issue but that very well could be user ignorance.

I think the fact that he is a journalist with some very pointed questions is the dead giveaway for his agenda. He's looking for a sensationalist angle to play for an article. Whether it's against Verizon or Samsung, I don't know, but it's pretty certain he came here with an agenda.

I've had my Charge for about three months. I ran bone stock EE4 for a few weeks and have been using the various iterations of Humble Roms ever since. I never encountered any of the 4 issues brought up by the OP.
As for HD recording, I recall posts mentioning that some phones shipped with class 2 and some with class 4 sd cards. I got a class 4 card in mine and I've never had an issue with recording HD. Likely the source of the recording issue.

Pulled the battery and all is well again. This can't be a coincidence, can it?
This has happened to me periodically both on stock and on bulletproof, I never really gave it much thought though, because it was easily fixed by a reboot.

It's been progressively getting worse, now I get just a black screen nothing coming up after multiple charges and battery pulls... praying it's not the screen and just a battery problem!
If it's fixed by a battery pull at first then it's most likely just a battery issue.

I was listening to music and pushed the power button to change the station and the screen would not turn on.
When I push and hold the power button the phone will vibrate briefly, indicating that the shortcut menu to reboot/ mute the phone has come up, just that the screen remains black.
When I try calling myself the screen will not turn on nor will the phone ring.
When I plug the USB cable into the phone, the screen remains black instead of turning on like it normally would.

I own a LG G2 and a Samsung Galaxy s4 and both are on 4.4.2 and they always respond when I wake the screen
my Nexus 5 on the other hand 100% stock with the same app's loaded has troubles and requires a reboot atleast twice per week
I went to use Waze for the first time on the S6 today, and it was all messed up. Unsure of what the problem was, I googled for compass calibration, and it was completely uncalibrated.
Calibration was easy, though, I just need to wait until tomorrow to check if it has solved the Waze problem.
Click here for instructions to check and calibrate.
Thanks for this! This fixed my Google Maps issue. The Maps pointer direction for my location did not point in the correct direction.
Hi and thanks for the advice.
This procedure fix temporarily the problem but it appears again.
I hope it can be fixed by an OTA update

Thanks for the heads up. I'll keep an eye out for it then.
I'm experiencing the same issue. It seems calibration helps only for some time as the problem returns. Looks really strange. I verified it on two S6 units.

That's unfortunate. I'm still calibrated since I started this thread, still keeping my eye out for it to lose calibration. Maybe I got lucky.
I noticed that after calibration compass works great, but after I restart the device the compass needs a recalibration. I did some quick search on XDA and it seems it is quite common issue across different Samsung devices, the question if it is a hardware or software fault.

I haven't rebooted my phone very often... rebooting now to see if it messes it up...
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow. Yep. That did it. Red needle w/ "0". Not cool, Samsung. Thanks for the heads up on this.
I visited Samsung Brand Store today and checked another 2 devices. Guess what ?! The same issue ! Compass calibration lost after reboot. This makes me think it is a software issue as it is hard to believe all 4 devices I checked were faulty. I also noticed it is very easy to calibrate it. You don't have to do all the calibration moves, you don't have to run any compass application or go into Samsung service menu (*#0*#0). You just have to be at your home screen or any other application and then you have to do the 3rd calibration move showed here: https://support.google.com/gmm/answer/6145351?hl=en
You just need to do it slower than showed on the image and with more angle. 3 moves and compass is calibrated.
I think most people didn't even notice this issue because:
- you don't reboot your device too often
- if you shake the device accidentally it might calibrate automatically
- most people do not use compass sensor too often (I personally use it once, twice per year and normally I would not notice it if not testing the device thoroughly as part of the 'new purchase checks').
So for me it is not a big deal to do 3 moves on occassion, but hopefully Samsung will solve it with OTA.

Awesome! Great info. And I'm sure you're right on all counts. I do hope they push a fix, though.
Mine was showing green arrow with number 2. Pointed north correctly.

More info on 3 Axis calibration.
(The linked pdf came up the first time I clicked on it, but then subsequent visits turned up "file not found", so this is a GoogleCache of the page.)

Press back button twice in short intervals.
This isn't Samsung specific: every Android device I've ever had loses compass calibration upon reboot.

This has never happened on any of my past Android devices: S4, S2, Evo, Photon, and Hero - the S6 is the first and only one for me that does this.
All my previous Android-based devices came from HTC and I also have not experienced something like that.

Interesting.. I've experienced this 'problem' on a Nexus 5, Galaxy Nexus, G2x, etc. It never really bothered me.

It would bother me less if there was a notification that popped up and said "Compass out of calibration, please calibrate", and then showed an animation like in misiek's link. (since the vast majority of users have no idea there is a compass in there, let alone that it needs calibration for some of their favorite apps to work.) That said, it shouldn't lose calibration.
I have a question to all of you having compass calibration issue. Do you happen to use a magnetic case (like magnetic closure/flap, magnetic catch holding, magnetic clips etc.) ?
This is for a better understanding of where we are standing now. 9.5.7 was rather a significant hotfix, but did they deliver?
What benefits have you noticed from 9.5.7 OTA and what you think needs work still.
I already noticed pictures are more accurate on low light whlie also more popping and saturated in normal mode,
Also after receiving a phone call, the loudness and clarity could be told from 5 feet away without using loud speaker.
I wasn't really experiencing most of the other issues, so, what was fixed for you?
Ghost touches are fixed! As far as the camera goes... i haven't compared it yet, but people say its much much better. Ambient display was a bit buggy for me on 9.5.5. Sometimes it works, and other times it didn't, but after the update i am yet to see it not working. I really appreciate this update and hope for more improvements in the future.
Edit: Btw first time using a OnePlus device and im loving it so far. Only issue for me is lack of sd card slot when it has 2 sim slots.
Ambient display is fixed and camera has improved hugely, especially night mode... Huge improvement
Much better overall...
They claim to have improved touch response. Maybe better now with tempered glass protector.
Still difficult to pull down status bar while in a call.
Full screen games still got issues with getting statusbar visible.
A little more overnight drain... 5%... might take a few days to settle in again or something... don't know

I didn't know about that issue, it would be good for you to submit it it in OP forums. Meanwhile, Only if if you have rooted you can fix that by installing Renovate ICE magisk module and enable Statusbar peek in Rice Tweaks

Yeah I posted it on the OP forums the first week the phone started shipping out and I am using the RICE. Thankfully they offer a work around.
Ambient display still broken for Nova Launcher and I'm sure for others as well, when unlocking it goes to black screen and only nav bar. Which as been reported by others. When ambient display disabled everything works fine.
Takes about 5 seconds to take a nightscape picture, I canĀ“t hold my hands steady for that long, so using regular mode for night photos which actually works surprisingly well. Still would like to have the option though.
*808*# to calibrate promixity sensor doesn't work. Unable to open the sensor calibration. And the old pocket mode isn't in settings anymore.
Conclusion is that while being carried in my pocket screen goes on very often.
Anyone else?
Warp charged is borked for me since 9.5.7, it changes between warp, normal and no charging about every 5 seconds, my old 5 cable does the same but funnily enough warp charge pops up with it, and my 5 dash charger works fine. And once the phone is about 90% the issue goes away completely. Also a factory reset didn't fix it and I know for sure I didn't have it on 9.5.5 because my phone vibrates every time it switches back to warp charge (which happens a lot and repeatedly as well as the animation on the lock screen) and its never done that before. (here is my post on the OP forums for any that want more info: https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/op-7-pro-warp-charging-not-working-anymore.1051041/)
I didn't see the ghost touch issue on 9.5.5, but right after booting into 9.5.7 I saw ghost touches
I have disabled NFC now and have not seen it since

Try charging while the phone is off, let the battery drain low, plug it for 1.5 hour. If it goes up to 100% in that time, then its not a hardware malfunction but an OS bug

did you debloat you OS? I did using tomato debloater, and with it some some of the calibration/ engineering mode went away as they where part of the apps to be removed. if reflashing your OS wont solve it for you, you might have a broken sensor

No, that's not what I wrote. Engineering mode app opens, but the calibration section doesn't work. It was working before. Someone else confirmed it to me in another thread.

I'll give that a try tonight and see what happens
I do not take many pictures I am glad to read though the camera may have improvements.
Noticed no changes so far.
