Poco X3 Face unlock not working in the night - Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC Questions & Answers

The Face unlock does not seem to work in the night. It works perfectly alright on the Poco F1 and really really fast! Its one of the best Face unlocks one can experience. You also see the Infrared light glow when it tries to Unlock. However, this is completely missing on the Poco X3.

Because it doesnt have IR Sensor on its front that has capability on seeing light even on the dark... While the Poco X3 NFC has the capability to have a face unlock, it still need a decent light to scan up faces and it uses A.I. Tech

Thanks for your reply.
You would be right, but isn't that like a downgrade. Its not that I will be using it very frequently, but i did notice right on the first night, so probably it is going to be missed out.
Given the situation, I dont think this can be fixed in the next updates as well.

POCO F1 is Series Flagship, and Poco X3 is midrange. so technically it is downgrade. and if you don't know how IR camera works, good luck for using it at night.

Yeah, its permanent, you cant tweak it because it is on its hardware... it doesnt have the capability... because if they would add ir sensor, it will cost them again at designing and manufacturing it so it would cost maybe $20-$40 more on the Poco X3's price and that would that personally me can't buy it because I'm really on a tighta budget

The 'spirit' or idea of the poco series was supposed to be budget flagship. The first Poco F1 had things missing to reduce cost. Like plastic back etc.
This year the SD865 an SD865 plus had 5G modums making it very difficult to repeat the exact success of the F1.
So this year they aimed for flagship 'experience' as well as low cost with a midrange device. Again some things left out to reduce cost.
They could of left out NFC for me an put front firing infrared camera for face unlock.
In New Zealand almost no one uses NFC. We use pay wave on chipped debit cards instead.
But the X3 hits the mark of providing a flagship experience mostly.
The F2 pro missed it in 2 major ways. Price an refresh rate. It got way too high in price in an effort to repeat the F1 experience.
So the X3 is a nice middle ground.
Can't wait till I try mine in November

You guys are missing a major point here, although there is no IR Camera, but thank God, there is also not a huge f**ing notch on it's forehead

Recently i switched form f1 to x3 pro.
I tried face unlock in dark environment and it didn't work.
Problem was from my screen protector that cover the infrared blaster.
After removing screen protector,
I can see the Infrared light glow when it tries to Unlock and it works fine.

my thoughts on the poco f1(OP3 user)

My thoughts on the poco f1
I sold my OP 3 for 9k and bought a poco f1 for 16k after offers. Huge upgrade for just 7k.
My opinion on the poco f1:
Cons :
Having to get rid of bloat feels pretty ****ty. It makes the phone feel much less premium than it already is.
The display is good at best. I miss the blacks from my 3.
The radius of the corners is way too high.
The notch is pretty big and prevents NOTIFICATIONS from popping up in the NOTIFICATION BAR...
Multi touch problems with the screen. You can tell that they really compromised here.
Aggressive memory management on miui 9.6
The phone's kinda heavy. Hurts more when it inevitably falls on your face. Especially with a Spigen case.
The theme store's categories and titles are plain hilarious.
Pros:
Cheap af
Durable af
Face unlock is ridiculously good. Ive not seen my lockscreen for days(you can disable this though)
Games are pretty damn smooth
Loud ass speaker.
Great camera with GCAM 6.1
Miui 10 brings loads of improvements and fixes and the developers are actively listening to the community.
Display gets really dim at night. Way better than the op3. I think it does 2.5 nits?
The battery is ****ing amazing. 2 hrs of pubg, a bunch of YouTube, email, Reddit, slides, with Auto brightness, the GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi and mbile data on both Sims on,. I ended up with 12 hrs of SOT. Huge improvement from the 5 I used to get on the OP3
Display with HDR on is pretty impressive.
Plenty or third party Dev support to help every Dev out with his life.
Some MIUI features are great. Lots of settings to scroll through
Headphone jack!!!
i see people speaking about multi touch issues but i have this phone for around 2 months and i've never felt an issue. please tell me what is ur issue with multi touch?
People throw away much more than $300 every month. Not sure what they complaining about with this phone. it's good if you are happy with it period.

Try playing pubg with it. If you're moving with the least side and aiming with the right. The screen spazzes out.

actually i play pubg alot recently, never had this issue. now i'm trying the claw (playing with 4 fingers) and i suck at it but touch accuracy is top. try a multi touch app from the play store and check with it if it doesn't track your fingers correctly as it might be a problem with ur unit.

Yup poco has hdr lcd, you can search for youtube hdr videos, you'll only get hdr options in quality settings if your device has hdr screen. I don't see much difference though tbh.

Poco f1 can reach 480 nits peak brightness and it can play 1080p HDR videos (auto brightness) and to an extent it does the job but don't compare it with true oled based HDR displays which have more than 1000 nits of brightness and more vivid colors
Those complaining about the multi touch issue is when then press q,p and Back button at the very corner. I didn't play PUBG so I am good. Mobile Legends doesn't cause problem for me

Definitely. Their upgrade program is pretty enticing too. Especially after they dropped the 128gb version to 22k it's a really good deal. I recommend it.

Oh, thanks for the reply
But isn't 1k extra just for that is a bit too expensive...does anyone ever want to spend that?

Pocofone f1, Mi8 or Mi9T (redmi k20), what should i buy?

Hi everyone! I want to buy a new phone and I'm in for these 3. I'm a moderate user, focused mostly on YouTube and Netflix, some games (arena of valor mostly), and general Web use. I want a good screen, good battery life and decent performance. Mi8 don't have a headphone jack, but have a AMOLED display. I don't know about the quality of pocophone screen, and the Mi9T screen seems to be so gorgeus. Anyway, what you can tell about this three, especially for videos and games?
Get the poco add me on aov my name is GRAZED
Mate, go to a store, look at the phones your interested in and make a decision...
Each persons view is unique and what sells me a phone may be unimportant to you... You will probably find people here are a little biased towards the Pocophone. If you go to those other phone forums you will probably get most people saying to get their phone as they will be biased there, and most people won't downtalk their product (unless it's REALLY bad) due to the fact we like to think our product/advice is best...
There is a myriad of videos on youtube extolling the virtues/problems with each phone...
In the end it comes down to you...
lets reverse the analysis
why you should not buy Mi8 (over Pocof1)
- it has similar soc
- no 3.5mm jack
- no expandable storage
- lower battery
- same big notch like pocof1
why you should not buy mi9
- where its SD855 & larger Screen to Pocoft & Mi8.... the battery is even smaller than Mi8
- No 3.5mm jack &
-no expandable storage
- the chipset has broken in to more complex setup where 2.4ghz x1 single and rest stays on lower end unless required, perhaps this way mi9 is saving batter
- poco f1 &mi8 chips set is gold/sliver plated but mi9 specs on gsmarena doesn't mention any such
now why you should buy POCO f1 in 2019..?
- other MI successors are usually missing headfone jack and expandable storage (this is v imp for me / i don't know about u )
- with a few niptuck differences on mi8 / mi9 you will pay more on these devices where Poco f1 is relatively cheaper now.
- soon 5g devices will be out THEN it makes more sense to upgrade and if you buy Mi8/mi9 .. they both are 4g devices only then you will left with no choice to force upgrade yourself! , so its better to buy Poco f1 on cheaper prices NOW so that by next 6-9 months when market is saturated with 5g devices you can easily upgrade.
another angle for pocof1
- local shops have many accessories and you will able to find covers/wallets/protectors etc (poco f1 screen protector is same as Iphone XR ) ( my poco has Iphone XR 9h strong screen protector, fits 99% accurately!
- POCO F1 is Very popular device (after Redmi Note5 / 5+ / 5pro) and XDA has so much on Pocof1 already, many rom, methods, easy to root tips! where for Mi8/mi9 you will have to wait many weeks for developers to release stable roms! ,,
i always check these things before buying any device(s)
dont buy anything from xiaomi see damn freeze thread and youll see the pain if you got corrupt xiaomi device like ****y poco

There is no reason buying MI 9T if its not PRO. Poco and MI 8 actually the same but MI8 is a flagship and gives better experience using of it... but at the same time it has lower battery capacity. Im using Poco F1 for 7 months for now and thats the best phone i've ever used just because of SD845. So i definately recommend it.
I have the Pocophone F1 and I would say it is a decent phone.
I'm gonna say between Poco F1, Mi 8 and Mi 9t, there's not much difference. But i'll try to look at the best feature in them.
Mi 8? It has the Super AMOLED, corning glass 5, HDR10 screen, best screen. Great camera (+telephoto, OIS), sufficient enough. SD845 Adreno 630 on par with Poco F1.
Mi 9T? The latest device. AMOLED, corning glass 5 screen. Camera is supposed to be the best. 48MP (+telephoto, ultrawide), under display fingerprint (if you like that, idk for me). Headphone jack. USB OTG is there to compensate for the less expandable storage. 18w 4000 mAh battery.
Poco F1? SD845. Expandable storage, headphone jack, stereo speakers, USB OTG, 18w 4000mAh (QC 3.0) battery. The lowest cost among these three, or probably the same cost as Mi 9T (depends on your country, idk)
Of course there's pros and cons between them. And I saw a lot of pros in Mi 9T that actually makes me eager to get it (if only I hadn't buy Poco) Anyway choose one that fits you.

my poco works perfect? might be some of your apps making device hang..
you need to explain what's installed and which rom you are using? even Miui10 which build? ( Stable (china/global) / developer (china/global) ) (rooted /nonrooted?) etc
Don't believe any positive comments about poco here. Poco is one of the ****ty device i have ever seen. It has famous touch issue that's still not solved and can't be solved through software updates. Camera is below avg. Phone hits up when its a plastic body. Durability is bad. Software updates are bad. Only battery backup is good because of it's large battery capacity.
Have my poco since it was out, am very pleased with it, no problems what so ever. Will trade it up for mi9t pro once it is released.

I am fine with my POCO so far!
Keep in MIND that POCO is NOT flagship device ! and like any other high mid range android devices it has pros and cons! but you are highlighting CONS only! ?
-POCO is highly managable and xda has many roms/mods! since i am using my Poco on HAVOC I don't have hanging problem but I had used poco on MIUI initialy and It was fine too!
- camera is OK, the highlight of this fone was never camera, infact the camera is better than many midrange Xiaomi Phones
- All phones heats up! but the good part is , on havoc , even the phone feels hot on touch! it never hangs!
- yes i have noticed touch problems BUT on Franco/Twisted loop kernels because they had been changing kernel drivers , and even on franco, the touch problem is rare and if you switch on / off screen, it fixes it self! however if I use any other kernel, it stays just fine!
I have adjusted myself to many devices because of their limitations! but poco is so far best device that i have able to customized according to my wishes

you are forgetting the main thing. we have no enough time for unlocking bootloader, flashing rom, modification etc etc. we are giving our hard money to Xiaomi not xda devs. xda devs are best in all way. we want the best in stock like OnePlus did.
all of us don't know how to flash roms and not even interested. we got poor lcd panel and they should admit that. instead of it we are being told to remove screen guard to solve touch issue. this is bulls*** man.
poco isn't flagship but not even close to flagship killer dude.
look because u watch netflix get mi9T global verison because its support widvine L1 and it will support HD playback i am useing pocophone f1 even after they add the widevine support its doesn't play hd so i think it should be on the phone from the factory to work and mi 9 also has the same support with better soc but less battery so choose between thoes 2 forget about pocophone the screen not good with video playback

TLDR: Buy the Mi 9T, don't even wait for the Pro version. You won't miss anything on the Pro given your declared use-cases, all of those that you mentioned you can do on the 9T + more money for you because it's significantly cheaper.
Here are the things I noticed about the Mi 9T:
1. As we all know, the build and the cooling system of the Mi9T-series were spec'd to deal with SD855 high-performance SoC which is and certainly an overkill for the SD730.
2. As explained in #1, what you would get is significantly higher run-time for the performance cores + GPU on full load (max clocks) when you have a lower TDP SD730 SoC.
3. SD730 also sips power at full load and is overall having lower power consumption (then the Pro) which also converts to longer run time per single full charge.
Remember that you have a phone with passive cooling which could always be saturated especially during summer. The question is that for how long before saturation? Simple, SD730 would take longer time to saturate a cooling system designed for SD855, that's it. I always notice people getting disappointed gaming on a phone with SD845 (for example) and got mad because it could easily throttle at FULL LOAD, where is the liquid cooling? What the cooling system is doing? My answer would be: With great power comes faster passive-cooling saturation.
Forget Mi8, very small battery for gaming, lowest runtime of the 3.
Forget Poco, it's overkill for your use-cases (SoC-wise) and it's camera is dated and offers less utility as compared to the cameras of the Mi9T.
Buy the Mi9T, it's best for the price and the use-cases you have stated. I also has the overall highest battery run-time of the 3.
Oh, the Mi9T Pro? Forget it, just buy a Mi9T with the biggest storage space and call it a day.
I am using a POCO F1 since September 2018. It had its own set of problems like screen touch issues etc.
Right now you should go with Mi9T because:
1. Better Screen. Poco screen is **** literally. If you dont bother about touch issues, even then the poco's display is very average.
2. SD730 is more than enough for a 1080p screen. Although Sd845 is stronger on paper, you wont make out much difference in performance unless you are into heavy gaming.
3. Design.. Poco's design sucks literally.
4. You get better camera, same battery but more power efficient chipset leading to a longer battery life.
5. Mi9T loudspeaker is louder than poco's speaker.( Poco's secondary speaker is barely audible and just for the surround effect)
6. Mi9T will get updates longer.
Poco will have less resale value now.
Unless you are into gaming, avoid poco f1. But beware that none of these will play Netflix in HD.
However if you can wait a bit and willing to spend extra, get the pro version.will be worth it.

Poco X2 ghost touch problem.

I am facing ghost touch issue in poco X2 and the problem is getting worse day by day! Anyone who faced similar problem in X2?
I have touch issues also; the screen registers touches when my fingers are near the screen; it worse for me when charging. If you are in India and bought it from Flipkart; I would ask that you raise it with them as soon as possible. I have asked for a replacement on june 17 and their response is abysmal.

Yes, I also have been facing it since last 2-3 weeks.
I think it might be due to some update in some software, mostly keyboard. I am using Microsoft SwiftKey as keyboard. What about you?

Doesn't matter, even the displays from Huaxing in Redmi Note 9 Pro has bleeding and retention issues, so goodbye Xiaomi, i guess.
It's a hardware issue in my case (India)
I bought a brand new Poco X2 on 11th July and got it delivered on 13th July. I have been using Xiaomi phones for the last 2 years so the learning curve with MIUI wasn't much for me, the only thing I needed to get accustomed to was the form factor.
From the very first day, the keyboard used to double tap. While playing PUBG, it would auto press some buttons (reload, backpack etc.). Also, the gestures weren't particularly great.
Initially, I thought it happened because I wasn't used to it, but after 10 days the problem persisted. That's when I decided to do a deep dive. I downloaded several multi-touch test apps, and indeed, it showed the problem of ghost touching. Even while touching the screen once, the max. events would show 2.
On top of this, I faced a very poor screen flickering issue.
I submitted my phone to the service centre on 28th July. They said even though they have not received any X2 with such complaints, there indeed seems to be something abnormal with my phone. It could either be the display or the motherboard or the PCB or the worst - a combination of 2 and 3. So it's either a repair or a replacement at this point. They have asked for 6-7 days, so let's see.
But if you are using the device and facing such issues, don't hesitate to raise your voice.
If you're planning to buy the device, RUN AS FAR AS YOU CAN FROM THIS ONE. Don't buy this.

The situation with Poco X2 in compare to other Xiaomi phones is still much better. Poco X2 at least doesn't have miserable tianma panel. Problems will occur but majority of don't get any issues

Why so little interest in this device?

I hope this is the correct forum for this type of discussion. If not, mods please move it to a more appropriate location.
What confuses is me is that there seems to be so little interest in this phone with both average consumers and tech enthusiasts. I'm curious you guys think that is?
Because it seems to me there are a lot of reasons why there should be. I'd like to lay them out. I'm by no means a Xiaomi/Poco fanboy, but I feel these are more of less objective points.
I paid €300 for my Pocophone F1 shipped from within EU, about a month after launch, and €350 for my Poco F2 pro about 2,5 months after launch. Taking into account inflation, the fact that the price might come down even more and the fact that you’re getting an objectively better hardware package, I’d say the F2 Pro is at least as good a deal (if not better) as the F1. And the F1 had a huge hype/interest surrounding it. It was basically the new One plus, as far as people were concerned.
What do I mean by better hardware package? Not taking into account the better chipset (which as far as I’m concerned is more a function of which smartphone generation we happen to be at) it’s the 4700 vs 4000 mah battery (I’m getting about 30-40% more battery life), the better screen (max brightness is quite a bit higher, as is color accuracy.. and it’s amoled), the much improved camera setup (including ‘nice to haves’ such as a macro camera), the housing which looks way more premium (even though all glass has downsides as well.. but the F1 back coating is pitting/scratching like crazy). And then there’s stuff that’s just plain cool, like the sliding selfie cam, the in screen fingerprint reader, IR blaster etc. Not to mention some weird omissions the Poco F1 had, such as no nfc.
I’d say getting this phone is kind of a no brainer, whether it’s for the tech enthusiast or the budget constrained android user who still wants the latest and greatest. Miui (though it has it quirks) is also getting to the point where it can compete with the other android skins out there.
So why is there so little interest?
I think because Xiaomi did not release the phone in India officially
For people into photography the Mi 10 range has better appeal. These handsets have much better cameras with OIS and 108MP or Omnivision lenses.
Here its due to Xiaomi not releasing full kernel source meaning that developers have a really hard time creating alternative ROMs.
In the "real" world, are sales bad? I dont know.
I wonder if there is any chance of getting custom roms for this device. I'm considering purchasing it but the lack of custom roms if putting me off. I'm curretly using a oneplus 6 and the poco f2 pro feeld like a nice and cheap upgrade.
I would like to add another imho huge pro-point for this (and other Xiaomi devices): unlocking the bootloader and rooting does NOT void the warranty!
(at least it's true for Singapore where Xiaomi confirmed this via email).
I am not aware of any other company (Samsung, Huawei, Realme ....) which allows this

It's not, it's the OEM ROM with a few mods on top, nothing special.

I think you are wrong sorry. OEM means "original equipment manufacturer" normally the manufacturers provide OEM firmware\rom. As you said its modified "with a few mods on top" and its not by the manufacturer, then its a custom firmware. I fully understand what xiaomi.eu does and I know they use the official Chinese firmware but it is still modified.
no call recording on F2 pro. So bye bye Xiaomi.

Technically, Xiaomi.eu ROM is a custom ROM.

I know what OEM means Hence the phrase "OEM with a few mods on top". I just think it's not enough to call it a proper custom ROM.
As long as xiaomi.eu maintains this device, I absolutely love it

Me too. I've been an AOSP guy ever since but TBH, I'm not complaining with MIUI this time, especially with Xiaomi.eu ROM. Plus, Magisk and EdXposed are perfectly working on it so I'm satisfied so far.

We have OIS, and the IMX686 is no slouch either. Gcam still has a ton to get out of that sensor. For context, the Pixel's sensor has barely changed for the last 3 and a half years, and they still made massive quality improvements.
What is the advantage of Omnivision lenses ? Don't they make sensors ? The general rule is that Sony sensors are better, isn’t it ?

We all need to keep asking for the full device tree and kernel source etc. on Facebook and Twitter. I've tweeted POCO and Xiaomi this week whilst I wait for my new F2 Pro.

I guess this is your personal choice you call it what ever you like. I can also say green is yellow but its still will be green for everybody else .
Going back to the subject I have also seen a significant price drop since I bought this about 2 months ago. Not sure why is this though I think its a very good phone.
I may unlock my phone and give a shot on the xiaomi.eu rom if everyone saying its great.
Well compared to my mi note 10 it has worse screen, worse in screen fingerprint reader, build quality feels worse, camera setup is nowhere near, battery time is about same on miui 12 (poco f2 got worse, note 10 better in miui 12).
So the only real pros for poco f2 is performance and popup camera.
I kept note 10 as main phone

Is buying POCO X3 an upgrade for a POCO F1 user?

I've been using Poco F1 for almost 2 years and now i want to change my device... So, is buying Poco X3 an upgrade or a downgrade w.r.t battery, camera, performance, touch, display
battery+
camera+
performence -
touch? bulid quality? same plastic feel
display +
Yes definately
Way better camera
More responsive and precise touch
Amazing screen
Yeah, came from Poco F1 and it is indeed an upgrade in almost every field.
Though, I would recommend that you wait until your Poco F1 get unusable or something, there hasn't been any huge changes in the industry, if you think you will get something that really offer a different experience, you won't.
What about UI? Is it lag free?I saw a review and the guy was facing lag while opening and closing apps... And is screen ghosting still an issue while scrolling or is it resolved?

The UI is lag free most of the time. What you need to remember is that the 120Hz is adaptative, so when you didn't touch your screen for a couple of seconds it goes to 60Hz, or to 30Hz when you watch a video. So if you happen to rotate your screen for exemple when it is at 30/60Hz, it feels pretty laggy.
I'd stick to the F1 untill stock ROM get's all issues solved, has some really annyoing stuff, or it gets fully functional custom ROMs
No. I switched from Poco F1 to Poco X3 and I haven't noticed huge difference except screen size and weight.
I think i will return X3 and wait another year with F1.
I would stick to F1, I only upgraded due to cracked screen and not being able to find a cheap replacement that cracks just as easily. The battery is a nice plus but I find F1 last over a day already so if you charge at night there isn't any point.
I bought the Poco F1 back in 2018 and recently sold it.
I'm using a Poco X3 NFC now and I really like the display quality, way better battery and better main rear camera.
I'm not regretting not buying the India non NFC 6000 MAh battery version because I really neded NFC in Europe, not only for payments but for other gaming related stuff.
I've disabled the adds and uninstalled the bloatware apps using some youtube tutorials.
Games using NFC? Could you pm some examples, don't wanna spam this thread
Hi there, I'm on Poco F1 since first days of 2019 and I really like the native call recording feature on Global stock ROM. Is this feature present on Poco X3 either? Thanks in advance.

I replaced cracked screen and battery in Pocophone F1 for ~30€ yesterday. Now I can get rid of Poco X3.
If the picture quality in the F1 is ok for you, I would keep it, as X3 is really great for its price, but doens't provide that much upgrade.
If you want more in everything go directly for Poco F2 Pro.
