Crease imperfection - Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 Questions & Answers

Hi guys, did a quick search couldn't find anyone asking this. Have any of you noticed a very small bump in the crease of your fold about a third down from the top when its fully open? I got one its very small doesn't show up on a photo and only really noticeable in certain light conditions. I was wondering if it was just mine or maybe a component linking the batteries or something. Cheers in advance.

I've noticed it too on mine as well not just one but two-three. Looks like it might be a screw or magnets that are causing the slight bump.

I'm sorry to hear that both of you have those bumps. My ZF2 feels totally smooth all the way down the crease. Something to keep an eye out for though.
Mystic Black with Red Hinge...

just checked mine, no problems at all. Black unlocked bought in USA from Best Buy 3 weeks ago..

Now I'm checking again i do have 2 actually.
They not bad or anything and don't take anything away from it and if someone other users have same thing then its probably just a slight design thing
Cheers guys

Yes I have several as well. I find that they appear and disappear day to day so I'm guessing it's either the hinge mechanical components or the brushes up against the crease. Doesn't cause any problems and can only notice it if held just right against a light source.
---------- Post added at 04:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:05 PM ----------
BTW you can't really "feel" them, it's more the way the light bends around that specific area.

~
I feel like I am missing out!! No bumps on my screen at all, smooth all the way down.
~

No problems here either
/CK

Mine's good too. Got it from Verizon, bronze

I noticed the same a few days ago, a visible and palpable bump in the crease in the lower 3rd of the screen.
For a foreign object, it was too large to possibly slip in. So I assumed it's part of the mechanism that got dislocated.
The next day it was completely gone and hasn't returned since.

Hairline cracking

Knew it was an issue.... Check the bottom of your phone of the white face I have multiple hairline fractures you can only see in the right light.... It looks like the cracking on clear coat paint job. Does any one have this problem.???

Not to be a smartass, but it just sounds like you're describing scratches. There is no clear coat paint job. They buffed the edge to a gloss, the color is all the way through.
If you could post some pics though it'd be great.
PICTURE
i took multiple pictures and the camera i have at any angle cannot capture the cracking, they are very small in length but there is about 10 of them in parallel to each other and they are not scratches the phone has been in a case i can tell they are cracking i was referencing a cars paint job, when they spray clear coating on the car sometimes you can see cracking it looks like that. the picture is of one side of the phone the other side has a few cracks as well i cannot tell if the cracking is throught the entire thickness of the unibody or not.... you have to look very hard to see them with your eye but once you see them they are unmistakeable. to see the cracking you have to turn the phone to catch the right light. do you think it is worth it to return the phone? i just dont know how the polycarbonate works, if it all a uni body or do they spray something on top of it that could be cracking
That picture sucks.

I have this problem as well. There was a thread earlier in the week where someone had the same problem but its so small and I barely see it in pitch blackness that I could really care less. Also, I have light leakage at the top of my screen and again, not a huge deal. Some people just expect perfect manufacturing, as is normal for the obscene amount this phone is worth retail.

Your post was far more pollutive than OP's. He has a genuine concern and is sharing it with the community, which is exactly what the general forum is for. Why don't you take your bull**** back to the Galaxy Note forums, it's not needed here.
@OP- That sucks, I would definitely take it back and get a replacement. I refuse to settle for anything less than a perfect device and you shouldn't either. It is a brand new phone and will only get worse over time. These things are expensive as hell and manufacturing defects are not acceptable at all.
I hear ya bro I'm particular about my phone I'll prolly return it I expect flaws on refurbish but not new phones. but my concern was it was going eventually chip u just can't get a picture of them they are so small. Thanks for all your replies it's much appreciated and I'll be sure not to pollute the internet too much I know liberals might want to save the DNS servers.
Sorry, but I see nothing. The polycarbonate on top shouldn't have anything on top that can crack. If it's serious to you, just try to return it, no harm in asking.
But if that's your only issue, stick with it, you may end up with a real problem.
Haha I think I just Pee'd a little. Really? Nothing that duct tape wont solve.
Ok... what I posted earlier was meant to be sarcasm. Sorry if I offeneded anyone.
Looking at my wifes One X I just noticed something simmilar near the sim card bay. Looks like a deep scratch.

Glass on the bottom of the screen is curvy

Hello everyone,
I got my Nexus 5 in white back in August and it's an amazing phone but I recently came across something that confused me.
As I tried to apply a tempered glass screen protector I noticed I couldn't get it to apply properly on the bottom, right under the screen. After a closer look I found out that the glass isn't even there. It's curved inwards which in turn makes it impossible to apply a glass screen protector without air.
Now the device is functioning fine but I'm not sure if this will be covered by warranty. It seems like a defect since I can't think of any physical event causing that. I've never let it fall down and it's still in perfect condition otherwise.
If I could get some advise on what I can do here or if anyone's got similar experience I'd love to hear about it.
Same here just below led notification it's nothing and came like this from factory I have my n5 since last week seen this the 2nd day but you can see it just when you move the phone in light it does not bother me I don't use any screen protector
You need to gently clamp in together on that spot, using a thin cloth to avoid scratches. Leave it for an hour and should stay gone.
Did with my Mime ghost glass. ?
---------- Post added at 01:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:01 PM ----------
Don't over do it obviously, or you could crack it.
Yes it is not quite flat. As above, clamp it for 30 minutes or so. I used some cloth wrapped around the phone and a bulldog clip.
This is a commong thing? That doesn't sound good, I kinda hope it's covered by warranty, I'll contact the vendor to see if they can replace it.
They're all the same. Just a design flaw.
Replace it and you'll most likely see the next one is no different.

Every one of them is like this. It may even be intentional rather than a flaw. We don't know. Its just the way the N5 is.

Is the phone completely flat?

My father and I both have the XZ dual, and i noticed when placing it on a flat surface it does not lie completely flat. The top left corner near the led notification light moves a bit and isn't flat on the surface.
It's worse on my phone than my dads, but i do notice that it got worse with time. I also bend it to the other side every once in a while and it becomes flat again only to bend the other way again in a few days.
I do not usually put it in tight places other than my front pocket, and I'm a thin guy so don't have much force on the phone.
Well, that's a relief. I thought I was only me. Same here. Tried some times to bend it to be flat, was ok for a couple of days, then the same thing, top left corner, no flat.
We 're talking like 0,1 mm so not really a problem, does not bother me, it's an amazing phone, can't wait for XZ Premium though.

So its not just me! It's driving me crazy, when i type with the phone on a flat surface it makes some sounds and is really annoying!
I thought it was supposed to be a flat phone ?
Got mine a month ago. It is completely flat.
Bad side - camera lens are also flat and prone to scratches...

this phone is totaly twistable and i noticed that after 10 days from when i bought it .i have put the phone on flat table and emediatly noticed its like a banana LMAO... it bends like no other phone for sure but the good side is it can go back to flat aswell ..phone is made mostly from plastic so we should expect that. i would recommend not carrying it in tight pockets it bends quickly... for a flagship device this should not happen but anyway if they continue this way i wont be buying Sony phones for sure.

I've had a lot of plastic phones, non bent this way and stayed bent!
The XZ premium is made of glass and metal, which is better in my opinion, even for heat issues. This phone heats up in my pocket while im carrying it, reaching body temperature 37c, after that it doesnt take much to heat it up to around 40 in which case it starts to throttle and stutter. The metal on the back looks reaaaalllyy thin, you can hear it when you tap the phone on the back.
I think my phone is also diagonally bent. Damn. This make me sad.

A 10th of a mm is well within the manufacturing tolerances, it is quite hard to produce 100% flat surfaces unless you go full metal and even then it is not guaranteed. Try checking the flatness against a glass surface though. No issues here.

That's indeed quite severe, definitely out of spec. Was it like this since you bought it or just a recent discovery ?

Weird... Probably that's why yours got bent, overheating. Have you determined the cause ?
Bought on launch day in September, still perfectly flat.

I actually haven't. Have no idea why it happened but it does seem to go back into bent position after adjusting, seems to me as a manufacturing fault or maybe I permanently bent it before without noticing (i dont think its that easy though). I don't remember how it was when I first bought it, but I started noticing it in January and my phone is about 7 months old right now.
I meant the overheating issue ( you mentioned in a previous post that it reaches 40 centigrades ), usually polymers are susceptible to dimensional changes as they are exposed to constant heat, hence the frame warping. Mine is as flat as it was the day I bought it (early Oct. 2016)

I thought 40 c was normal, it always reaches that especially when doing some heavy tasks or when the weather is hot (I travel in the Middle East where its usually hot). But as from the video posted in an above reply, i think there's a weakness in the phone structure since mine is bent in exactly the same way, and other users also reported the same area.

Physical build quality

Any body having any build issues?
After pink tint - I thought I picked a decent phone.
Just noticed a few times today (having only used the phone lightly for a few hours) that when I pick it up from the middle of the screen I can hear and audible click as if I'm pressing the glass onto the digitizer. Imagine you had a gap between a tempered screen protector and the other screen.
Anyone got similar? I can't bring myself to exchange the phone again but also this is a 2-4 year investment for me! Wondering what issues might occur down the line and if this was something similar on the S7edge. :crying:

have the same with mine - does not feel that great to have such an expensive phone sounding like som cheap plastic phone for 100$
I feel vindicated from feeling like a mad man.
I am going to record the noise and then consider requesting another exchange.
Trouble for me is that I am happy with the screen whiteness/red levels so don't want to jump back into that frying pan.
Do you think it is something from the rear or centre (maybe the battery wrapper) more like what I'm thinking with that adhesion between the digitiser and glass?
Hmm. Mine is top notch! Loving it

Don't get me wrong - I don't drop £800 on a phone I don't really want. But that also means it needs to feel right on.
My concern about the clicky screen issue is in case this is likely to cause problems down the line. Currently since I'm only in by a week I have retailer returns in my locker. After that it will be a PITA having read how Samsung deal with issues.
Has anyone had this on any other Galaxy devices? Did it get worse or better or go away?
I don't disagree with you. I just don't seem to have any of the issues that people are having

Perhaps this is obvious, but I just want to confirm that you are hearing this sound without your case on? I had gotten a clear Spigen Ultra Hybrid case and it clicks like mad because the case ins't perfectly fit to the phone. When it contacts and release from the back of the phone its makes a clicking sounds from the case sticking to the back of the phone. Happens all the time when I press the home button.
The only reason I mention it is because I thought my phone was broken too for about 10 min before I realized it was the case.
I got mine 2 days ago. I feel there's dust being trapped at the bottom half of the screen where the glass meets the chassis

Goodness. I just got done making a post about this. This has been irritating me since i began using the phone last Friday. I took my SIM back out Saturday, put it back in the box, and called up and got an RMA. I'm still on the fence about whether I'm going to send it back...

Same case and the only time my screen makes any noise is when the case is on. Had to take it out just to make sure.
Mine does this as well. Went to Verizon about the issue and noticed the floor models did the same thing. Also they got a brand new one out of the box and it did the same thing as well. So I am not to concerned about it at this point. I did a waterproof test and it's fine.

Question Hinge movement when fully folded

Hi guys, I have been using the Flip 3 for a few days and noticed that when the phone is fully folded, the two parts of the phone can move slightly.
I first noticed this when I tried to use Samsung Pay with the phone folded, and when I pushed the power button, the top part of the phone body shifted a bit.
I wonder if anyone else noticed this on their flips?
I just tried wiggling mine when it's closed but it's solid, no movement at all.

I had another one before this and the hinge was so loose, it almost opened by itself. Good for people who want to flip it with one hand. It's lottery with this phones. If you are not lucky...

Thanks for your input. I reckon it's within normal tolerance as it is a moving part after all. It's fine to me since once the phone is open, there's no budge
I have two Flip 3. One Flip has this problem. The other not. Samsung itself only offered me to send the device back and then buy a new one.
How did you get on with Samsung on this? Mine has started doing it!
Mine does it as well. About 1 mm at the most. I'm sure this is within tolerance. Those that don't probably will at some point. It's completely normal that the hinge loosens a bit with use.
Yep tiny bit of movement so acceptable/expected I guess
No movement on mine. I got it day 1 and it's gotten some pretty heavy use.
Had mine since Sep 3rd and when there's no case on there's zero movement, though with the offical leather case the two halves have some slight play(might be due to the case providing more of a bumper along the screen).
Hey all,
Happens on mine as well.
Before this one, I had another unit for testing purposes and that wan't wasn't moving at all. Mine moves a little bit... not worried to much about it, but it's there.
Mine has a bit of play, it also has the tapping sound when running my finger across the top from what sounds like the screen Separating.
