Glass on the bottom of the screen is curvy - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
I got my Nexus 5 in white back in August and it's an amazing phone but I recently came across something that confused me.
As I tried to apply a tempered glass screen protector I noticed I couldn't get it to apply properly on the bottom, right under the screen. After a closer look I found out that the glass isn't even there. It's curved inwards which in turn makes it impossible to apply a glass screen protector without air.
Now the device is functioning fine but I'm not sure if this will be covered by warranty. It seems like a defect since I can't think of any physical event causing that. I've never let it fall down and it's still in perfect condition otherwise.
If I could get some advise on what I can do here or if anyone's got similar experience I'd love to hear about it.

Same here just below led notification it's nothing and came like this from factory I have my n5 since last week seen this the 2nd day but you can see it just when you move the phone in light it does not bother me I don't use any screen protector

You need to gently clamp in together on that spot, using a thin cloth to avoid scratches. Leave it for an hour and should stay gone.
Did with my Mime ghost glass. ?

Don't over do it obviously, or you could crack it.

Yes it is not quite flat. As above, clamp it for 30 minutes or so. I used some cloth wrapped around the phone and a bulldog clip.

This is a commong thing? That doesn't sound good, I kinda hope it's covered by warranty, I'll contact the vendor to see if they can replace it.

They're all the same. Just a design flaw.
Replace it and you'll most likely see the next one is no different.

Every one of them is like this. It may even be intentional rather than a flaw. We don't know. Its just the way the N5 is.

[Q] Replacing the glass on G2X

So I have a friend who broke the glass on his G2X, he needed a new phone and bought on of mine from me. He eneded up just giving me the G2X too! So my question here is...
Has anyone here replaced the glass before on this phone?
If so, how are is it to do, and where did you get the parts from?
Thanks in advance!
I would love to know also, I managed to drop my phone for the second time today. The first time it was on asphalt, but absolutely nothing happened. Today it fell on tile, directly hitting the slight curve in the screen in the upper right corner. Low and behold, it's pretty cracked, but the LCD is perfectly fine.
So much for the Corning Gorilla Glass.

I had gotten a g2x with a broken digitizer glass off ebay not far back. I also bought ths new digitizer glass on ebay as well for about 54 dollers. There is a video on youtube that shows how to change it but it leaves a couple of things out witch I had to sort out but it was not that hard at all. I will try to post what they left out so yuo all can fix yours.
As well I will try to post pics of ths two things to be carefull about so you do not mess anything up. I may not be able to post it till thiss weekend

Scratch repair, screen and housing Inspire 4G

I have done some research and searching to remove scratches.
For screens there are several types, capacitive which are newer and resistive which is older. They also now have different materials glass, plastic and some have layers.
For housings they are typically plastic, but the Inspire 4G has a metal or maybe aluminum housing. I purchased a Novus plastic polish kit which is a 3 part system but in the title it says plastic. I may try it on the metal housing.
Have you all gotten rid of scratches using products? I have also come across IDrops
You can always sand and polish the aluminum back. i did this since im waiting for my new glass to get here. oh the blue squiggle in the center is something wrong with the camera on my other phone
Will it keep its color if you sand/polish it?
I did the same thing with my hd2 about 6 months ago and its holding up just fine. might have to polish it again but thats the easy part. i probably wouldnt have done it to my inspire but i got it used and it was pretty beat up with some deep scratches. so i figured i'd give it a shot since i was pretty happy with the way it turned out on my hd2.
Im seriously thinking about doing this! Any advice? It would be appreciated!

No... If you sand it, the paint comes off.
the best advise i can give is to take your time. it can be a pain in the ass at times. i had some 600 grit sandpaper laying around and a scratch repair kit for my car. i believe its called QUIXX scratch repair. i used the 3000 grit that came with the kit after the 600 grit and used the kit as directed after all that.
the polish back plate look nice
found this but i dont think the inspire has the same material however it may still help
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=871308
that s a pretty good guide. it might work but only on light scratches because it doesnt take much sanding to get to bare aluminum.
Where do you guys order the housing I need a new volume rocker. Also a guide on how to take it apart for some repairs to the glass glue. Any help fellas?
youtube has videos on how to get it apart and ebay has housing replacements. be careful when trying to get the glass and lcd out. i thought i would end up breaking it and i've had plenty of experience with taking phones apart.once u have it most of the way aprt u will wanna pull glass and the lcd out from the bottom first because the top corners are under the frame plastic.

Screen or worse?

Hey guys. I have the samsung galaxy s6 active and yesterday while working on my car i laid down on it and somehow when i pulled it out of my pocket the screen was flashing white and colors up and down it. If i smacked it hard enough i could see the clock and access the phone, but it's basically done for. I went out and bought an s7 active to replace it (although i had first had the s7 and lifeproof case, but later changed my mind). My question is, does this sound like a digitizer/lcd issue or is it farther back in the phone? The phone is functional when the screen "cooperates" although 1/3 of the screen still flickers even when it "works". But i can touch icons, input my pin, etc. So what do you think it needs and can you point me to parts if so? And is it easy to disassemble? I'd like to repair it and keep it as a spare, sell it or give it to a family member.

Dissasebly aint to bad. S6s re prone to minute amounts of moisture dammage check all the flex cables and clean with a qtip and 1 single drop of alcohol. Then folow up with 1 single drop of wd 40 for continued protection. 1 drop of wd for whole job. Its woth a shot i bout mine with loads of hardware issues on a hopful hunch and this fixed mine. There was noticable corrosion on the usb flex.

Physical build quality

Any body having any build issues?
After pink tint - I thought I picked a decent phone.
Just noticed a few times today (having only used the phone lightly for a few hours) that when I pick it up from the middle of the screen I can hear and audible click as if I'm pressing the glass onto the digitizer. Imagine you had a gap between a tempered screen protector and the other screen.
Anyone got similar? I can't bring myself to exchange the phone again but also this is a 2-4 year investment for me! Wondering what issues might occur down the line and if this was something similar on the S7edge. :crying:

have the same with mine - does not feel that great to have such an expensive phone sounding like som cheap plastic phone for 100$
I feel vindicated from feeling like a mad man.
I am going to record the noise and then consider requesting another exchange.
Trouble for me is that I am happy with the screen whiteness/red levels so don't want to jump back into that frying pan.
Do you think it is something from the rear or centre (maybe the battery wrapper) more like what I'm thinking with that adhesion between the digitiser and glass?
Hmm. Mine is top notch! Loving it

Don't get me wrong - I don't drop £800 on a phone I don't really want. But that also means it needs to feel right on.
My concern about the clicky screen issue is in case this is likely to cause problems down the line. Currently since I'm only in by a week I have retailer returns in my locker. After that it will be a PITA having read how Samsung deal with issues.
Has anyone had this on any other Galaxy devices? Did it get worse or better or go away?
I don't disagree with you. I just don't seem to have any of the issues that people are having

Perhaps this is obvious, but I just want to confirm that you are hearing this sound without your case on? I had gotten a clear Spigen Ultra Hybrid case and it clicks like mad because the case ins't perfectly fit to the phone. When it contacts and release from the back of the phone its makes a clicking sounds from the case sticking to the back of the phone. Happens all the time when I press the home button.
The only reason I mention it is because I thought my phone was broken too for about 10 min before I realized it was the case.
I got mine 2 days ago. I feel there's dust being trapped at the bottom half of the screen where the glass meets the chassis

Goodness. I just got done making a post about this. This has been irritating me since i began using the phone last Friday. I took my SIM back out Saturday, put it back in the box, and called up and got an RMA. I'm still on the fence about whether I'm going to send it back...

Same case and the only time my screen makes any noise is when the case is on. Had to take it out just to make sure.
Mine does this as well. Went to Verizon about the issue and noticed the floor models did the same thing. Also they got a brand new one out of the box and it did the same thing as well. So I am not to concerned about it at this point. I did a waterproof test and it's fine.

RhinoShield 9H Tempered Glass Screen Protector

I haven't seen much on this screen protector and had to add my experiences. In my opinion this is finally the "perfect" screen protector for the note 9. Its a little expensive but totally worth it. I have two Note 9's and I have installed one on each phone. I ended up getting one that had a small imperfection causing the one side to lift overnight but after a few emails and pics to RhinoShield they send me a new one for free. They did have two different ones listed on their website but right now I only see the one thats full adhesive. The install is a little different than most but not hard and the alignment tray they supply works great. I would watch the install video so you can get a perfect install. The only cons I noticed is some dust can collect on the sides but not as bad as the dome glass. It also has black borders and the sides seem to get cut off a tiny bit. This isn't a deal beaker because the edge panel still works perfect. This is not an edge to edge but I prefer that also so it works with any case. I have tested it with the RhinoShield SolidSuit and Crashguard as well as two Spigen cases and it fits perfect. The SPen feels great and touch sensitivity is also very good (I did turn on the increased touch option). After trying a TON of screen protectors this in the end all for me. I was very surprised to not see any real reviews on this one.
This looks nice.
Is it full adhesive and does it go on easy or are there a lot of bubbles that are hard to get out?
Just had a complete nightmare with the ZAGG Elite and don't want to go through that again.
Can you get it on Amazon or only from Rhinoshield?
It is full adhesive. That is what makes it so good. No rubber feeling from a wet install no messy LOCA glue and no stupid edge glue that pops off if you look at it wrong. This was my install method I was able to do two like this with ZERO bubbles. Im kinda OCD with screen protectors.
1. Clean (DUH)
2. Place alignment tray on, clean again and use dust stickers that are included.
3. Peel off protector back film and place the screen protector on the phone but dont press it down.
4. Once its aligned in the tray perfect I used my knuckle and ran it down the center of the phone.
5. Slowly run your finger/knuckle from the center towards the edge but going up and down the phone evenly. These stick with more of a "tacky" glue unlike the "static cling" from most full adhesive glass protectors. If you get a bubble make sure to work it out as you go even lifting it up to make sure they are out. Once its stuck down I dont see them every working out. You will see what I mean when you do it.
6. When you get to the curved edge it will stop sticking and leave almost when looks like a bubble from the top to the bottom along the edge. I just started at the center of the edge and pressed the screen down SLOWLY all the way to the top and then the same from the center to the bottom. Do that on both sides and sit back and enjoy your work.
Im convinced there is not a better protector out there including Dome Glass. I even bought an extra for backup if anything happens to them.

And I looked on Amazon but dont see it. They have the one that's just the edge glue. But don't bother with that one.
Going to order on and test it out with some optical adheasive. So the glue they use is it like the gel that Zagg uses on the elite? I like the full cover of this one.
Never tried the zagg one. I thought I read reviews on that one and they wernt that good. You really won't need to add anything to this one. Just don't leave any bubbles as you Install it thinking you will get them out after it's all the way on.
I'm going to order one also. Sounds kind of like the Elite but I'm praying it's not.
Nah Zagg elite's work great. Just idiots don't know how to install them. My beef is Zagg makes a great product...then goes out of there way to gimp it. The black bezzles are absolutely horrible. Cuts down on your screen size and even installed perfect you get a little light leakage.
Ya I hear you on that. This one has the black borders that suck but as long as I can still use the edge panel and I dont see bubbles I'll take it any day.

I've installed many of full adhesive protectors over the years and I'm no idiot. Never have I seen a glass protector that cracks as easy as the ZAGG Elite.
I will try the Rhinoshield and see if it's any better than the Elite. I like that the sensors are covered with the Rhinoshield. Just ordered one up.
Is the alignment tool a plastic border that goes around the phone like Zagg uses?

Just ordered 2 so I'll have a spare in case I screw up the first one.
Ya it's just a plastic frame that you put on from the top and it has little tabs to center it. It's simple but works good.
I'm pretty easy on my phones and don't ever really drop them but the glass on this one seems pretty good. We will see how it holds up on the woman's phone she is a little rougher with hers. I'm glad you ordered one so I can see what someone else thinks about it.

My wife, my daughter and all their friends.
Ya half my friends too. I wont let my kids use them unless they want to buy the with their own money.
Oh come on!
I bought the RhinoShield tempered glass protector a few month ago and came with no frame to put it on the phone, and was only border adhesive with only top and bottom black borders.
But on the side on randomly on the center of the screen, the same ugly rainbow effects we usually got (and dot matrix too).
The bottom left corner had issues since it wasn't responsive anymore either (probably due to the inability to put it correctly because no frame to help even if all seem to be symmetric).
Not satisfied.

I won't try the experience I think, especially when it said that it's not edge to edge

I'm not fan of plastic protector. Not smooth enough for use with swiping, plus it really attract dust.
Ya they did have two versions. I never bothered with the edge only glue because they all seem to suck. I'm telling you the full adhesive one is by far the best one I have tried so far. It's not perfect but its as good as we will get because of the curved edges.
