The XDA package Navigation Gestures was an excellent way to remove either the "pill" navigation, or the virtual two- or -three-button "black bar" native navigation methods. However Google removed something called "overscan" in Android 11. See:
https://www.xda-developers.com/goog...ndroid-11-crippling-third-party-gesture-apps/
I've decided to remain on Android 10 as a result. There's not that much in Android 11 which excites me.

You're right, since Android 11 removed the ability to use "overscan" the Gestures application fails to start in Android 11. I have yet to find a useful or similar replacement for hiding the native Google navigation solution. I'm hoping to hear someone else suggest a possible solution.
I do not use a rooted version of Android, and I don't use Magisk. Perhaps someone who is familiar with rooted versions of Android 11, or someone who knows how to best use Magisk can offer both you and I some advice. I hope so.

Hide Softkeys?

LG, Huawei and a couple other companies have this feature baked into their take on Android, allowing you to hide softkeys on a per app basis. Anyone figured out a way to hide them on the Idol 3?

I think to hide the navigation bar you need root but I'm not sure. Have you tried doing a google search for "Hide Android navigation bar"? There's app on the play store but again they may need root and root has not yet been achieved.

There is an app in the Play Store, It works without root , and actually is not bad. The free version does not allow per-app setting. I tested it for a little while, and then uninstalled. I think I will keep the nav bar - since it hides or becomes transparent in videos and photos anyway. The browser is the only odd case - and I will live with it for now - actually the back button may come handy !

Yeah, I used GMD Auto Hide with the Z3 Compact and it worked flawlessly, but it doesn't seem to be too effective with my Idol. The time the softkeys bother me is during games that don't automatically put the screen into immersive mode, so not only do I usually accidentally touch one of the softkeys but it's also wasted screen real estate during gaming.
No one is currently working on this? This is surprising since soft keys are one of the most annoying things about the Idol 3. I'll hit up GMD Auto Hide Soft Keys developer and see what they can do to make this work for us!
Has anyone found a solution for this yet? I returned the phone after only a few hours because of this flaw. Extremely annoying feature. Takes a big
screen phone and makes it small again.
With root and xposed you can use the module "Hideable Nav Bar".

You can try any cm version for our phone and it has this option you need embedded in the system under the name of expanded desktop in display settings.

[Resolved] How to force an app to NOT be in fullscreen or suggest me a non fullscreen paint-like

Hello, I want to have something extremely simple yet I can't find a working way to have it: I just want to be able to solve some sudoku-like puzzles where I have to shade some cells using a paint bucket tool on png files just like on windows paint, but I want to see if wifi is available while doing so, but the irony is I struggled to find a paint-like that does such a simple thing, it's called PhotoSuite and the problem is that it hides the notification bar.
So do you know an alternative to this app ? Or a way to force the app to not be in fullscreen or at least show wifi signal on overlay (and if possible icon notification that may appear from a game telling me it's my turn to play) ? I tried a module of xposed but the problem is that with last stable or even experimental version the framework is still not installed after download and reboot. Bird bar, Smart Statusbar, Swipe status bar, "open notification bar", also don't do it. My phone is on android 4.1.2.

You cant expect everything to work with 4.1.2, 4.1.2 isn't really supported anymore, most of today's apps are for 4.4 and newer.
If you want to use current apps and software, may I suggest you upgrade to a more recent device that has at least 4.4 or 5.0. It doesn't have to be a new device, there are plenty of used devices with 4.4 and newer software.

Well xposed is actually something that works better, if not only, with android 4, so unless my phone specifically don't work with it for some reason it should have worked. But alternatively, I'm pretty sure there must be some very basic paint-like apps that works on my phone, actually I'm pretty sure some were made even for android 1 given how basic that is.
Since I really don't want much from my phone (I almost never went to the google play store) I don't want to buy a more recent one and the one I have doesn't have any custom rom to upgrade it, unlike a galaxy s I have (but it's way slower and have less ram).
There we go: I tried many other paint softwares, none did what I wanted, so instead I tried to make xposed framework work, it works perfectly on my older phone but on this one all I had to do was to check "Disabled resource hooks". I'm still surprised by the fact that it's way easier to force an app to be in fullscreen than to prevent it.

Launchers and gestures problems

Pixel launcher has the annoying search bar on its home screen which is irremovable.
Nova launcher is arguably the best for customizability. But there's something that ticks me off when using Nova. Whenever you open recent apps the transition isn't smooth as with Pixel. It has a small hiccup.
(See https://imgur.com/a/lewvZu3 for what I mean)
I tried almost every launcher on the market and they all had the same problem.
So I contacted Nova's development team to give them my feedback. This is what they had to say:
"Hello,
PLEASE READ THIS RESPONSE IN FULL!
You can read Google's official statement and our statement about the issues you and anyone else using Android 10 and Android 11 are experiencing. Please take note that Google admits to this being broken on their end of things and that a fix will be coming in a future update to Android(Stated March 2019.).
However, it's now well over a year later and there are still many issues with full system gestures and 3rd party launchers on both Android and Android 11. These issues will remain for the foreseeable future as Google has no plans to completely fix their full system gestures.
This includes things such as the CLOSE ALL/CLEAR ALL button not showing up when you access the Recent Apps screen. As well as a delay of being able to tap on app icons when returning to the home screen from another app, from viewing the Recent Apps screen or anything similar.
These problems will still be there when Android 11 is released in its final form as Google has made it clear it's not going to fix/change things any time soon.
Please understand, there is absolutely NOTHING WE CAN DO TO FIX OR CHANGE THIS IN ANY WAY! Contact Google or your device OEM directly with these issues as contacting any launcher developer isn't the correct thing to do and isn't going to accomplish anything.
SAMSUNG USERS: Samsung has enabled full system gestures to be enabled within 3rd party launchers with their One UI 2.5 update. This means you can enable those gestures, but things are still very broken, especially when it comes to animations and how smooth the gestures work. This is NOT something Nova, or any other 3rd party launcher can fix. Only Google can fix it.
In the end, none of this is something we(Nova) can fix or change in any way and neither can any other 3rd party launcher for that matter. It is ultimately up to Google and only Google to fix full system gestures completely. Though they have made it clear that full system gestures will remain broken even with the final release of Android 11 and likely well beyond that.
We understand that this statement was made during a beta version of Android 10. However, as is stated in the below URL, this issue will remain broken even after Android 10, and now Android 11, is released in its final form. What this means is that Google knew well ahead of time that they had no plans to fix this until much later so it's still a relative issue today.
GOOGLE'S STATEMENT:
https://android-developers.googleblog.com/2019/07/android-q-beta-5-update.html
OUR STATEMENT:
https://help.teslacoilapps.com/faq/gesture-navigation
As of the December 2019 Security Patch from Google, you can now enable full system gestures within 3rd party launchers. However, please note, there are still a lot of issues with the gesture system such as animations not working, Close All button not showing up and several other things. This is not something any launcher developer, including us here at Nova, can fix or change in any way.
This is still all up to Google to fix at some point in the future and to get things working 100% the way everyone expects them to be.
If you experience any issues at all while using full system gestures, it is highly suggested that you contact Google directly and/or file bug reports with them directly so that your voice can be heard by them directly.
ACTION LAUNCHER'S FALSE CLAIMS: Action Launcher made an announcement back in late December 2019, is actually misleading and 100% incorrect. They are referring to the back swipe edit zones and similar stuff. Full system gestures are completely controlled by Android and not something a launcher can just suddenly add support for or change in any way.
If you actually try to use the full system gestures in Action Launcher, you'll see they are still as broken as they have been and will remain that way until Google fixes things themselves."
Edit: uploaded an animated gif of the example but XDA converted it to a still image, so I had to upload on imgur.
I'm using Nova as well. Have you also had an issue when swiping up and holding to access recent apps, the apps fill the entire screen instead of showing the smaller preview window?

Just updated to A11 beta and the bugs are gone. It's working smoothly now.
The gestures work fine if you're willing to root and use QuickSwitch with a supported launcher. (No third party launchers support A11 with QuickSwitch yet though)

i have this problem on a oneplus ,Do you have enable the navigation with gestures?

Search bar can be removed and more options.
See this thread
Just make sure you get the right files for A10, I have not tested on A11 yet.

2-button navigation bar for 4a?

I'm trying to enable the Android Pie-style 2-button ("Pill") navigation for my 4a (rooted, on Android 10), and I have tried the PieNav.zip Magisk module on XDA with no luck. Magisk doesn't give me any error when flashing but upon restart the module is not there, not does it take effect. I used to use a Pixel 4 XL and it worked back then. Anyone knows any workaround? Please share if you do ? Cheers!
Edit: used the Pixel4_2ButtonNav_v1.0.zip instead and it worked like a charm.

Edit: updated to Android 11 and still works
That's so cool, thanks for highlighting the mod. I have been struggling with the new gestures, both sides of the screen, and the bottom in use for navigation has made using gestures within apps really difficult..
Dirty unicorns has all 3 options as well

Swipe up to search apps OnePlus phones Oxygen OS 12.

So I updated my OnePlus 7t to Oxygen OS 12 and I miss a very important feature. The feature I'm talking about is "Swipe up to search app". This enabled us to search through the app drawer as soon as we swiped up from the home screen. So without any hassle we could search and find the app we were looking for just by swiping up and typing the app name. But unfortunately this feature got removed in Oxygen OS 12. It worked flawlessly on Oxygen OS 10 and 11.
So now we manually gotta swipe up and then tap on the search bar and type. So is there any way to get this feature back on Oxygen OS 12 while using the stock launcher. Like using ADB commands or by using gesture apps or by using automation apps by creating a series of actions.
Any help is welcomed. As I said it used to be a very vital feature for me, I used it very often, so I'm looking for a workaround to get it back. Also I don't wanna rollback to previous version of Oxygen OS.
