It looks like my wife's phone updated overnight, now she has no access as it is asking for a password, which she never had. Anyway to fix without hard reset?

She doesn't have a screen lock on the phone?
Could it be asking for her Google or Samsung password?

No screen lock, tried Google and Samsung passwords, nothing worked. Ended up doing a factory reset

You can login to Samsung cloud and remove a lock screen remotely. I know it's after the fact now but remember that next time.

Unable To Remove Lock Screen/PIN

I'm not able to disable the PIN (or any security based lock screen; Password, Pin, or Pattern) and set the phone to just "Lock Screen" or even "No Lock Screen." The Face Unclock feature is also not available.

Are you connected to a corporate Exchange email account? If so, I think the Exchange admin can require the lock screen and not let you turn it off.

+1 This happened to me on my last phone, built in policy in MS Exchange. I think if you delete the account, you can get the options back.

Only company email account used on the account is accessed through Gmail.
The "Lock Screen" was the selected option, until I tested out the PIN. But then when I went back into setting, Lock Screen and the other two were greyed out. So I can't remove the PIN now.

It's because you locked the microSD card. I had the same thing right now with LG G2 Mini

How do you delete micro SD protection? Can this be done without formatting the card?
Of course, because you do not format it. Settings/security/decrypt SD card storage.
of course that option will be shown if you encrypted the card before
I think that also works with phone encrypt so maybe that's why you can't delete pin

I managed to sort the issue out by clearing the credential storage on my device. It may not solve the issue for everyone.

So I had this problem but only after this most recent update beginning may. And what I did was go to setting, then security, there should be a credential storage area. I cleared the credentials went back to lock screen and it wasn't greyed out anymore. I don't even know what activated this because all I did was add a pin just like you and then wanted it off and I couldn't. But I solved it. Hope it works for you. Good luck
To opt out, Go to Settings » Accounts» Remove Google and Corporate/Exchange account then restart device.
Now again go to Account and add Google account.
Now lock the phone and try to unlock with invalid PIN/Pattern for 5 times, next it will automatically open SnapView settings, there, remove SnapView.
That's it, Go to Security » Lock screen, enter the current PIN/Pattern, now it will display all other lock options....

Bypass Samsung Reactivation Lock

I have successfully bypassed the reactivation lock on my brother's Samsung S6 running 5.1.1 (VZW)
1.) Use OTG cable and launch settings (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJ8_qbj1DPQ)
2.) Open Accounts and add Google account
3.) Open Lock Screen and Security
4.) Open Find My Mobile
5.) Click http://findmymobile.samsung.com ( it will open up a browser)
6.) Search Google Play Store and launch it
7.) Google Play Store opens up and then search for KNOX and install it
8.) Launch KNOX and Register
9.) Now search for a launcher like APEX and when it is done click open (should take you to home launcher)
10.) Open up KNOX and MORE and KNOX Settings in the upper right
11.) Click Account
12.) Add SAMSUNG account ( I also added google account but dont think its needed)
13.) I then set KNOX stlye to Launcher and it restarted the UI
14.) On the Samsung Protection screen Log into the samsung account you signed into with in KNOX
You should be logged back into your phone

When i go to turn off reactivation lock it prompts for my password and then just kicks me back into the "find my mobile" page with the reactivation lock toggle in the "on" position again. when i delete the Samsung account it says that it will turn reactivation lock off, but now all of the toggles are grayed out, including reactivation lock, which is still in the "on" position. Is there a way to turn it off after it is bypassed?

Thats weird. I was given the option to turn it off after I signed in. I also did a lot of other stuff like install Samsung+, froze setup wizard and other things I cannot remember and to my surprise I bypassed it. I dont have the phone anymore to play with.

Im not sure if you were using the same login once you bypassed the reactivation lock. Which may be why you were able to turn it off. I unfortunately am trying to bypass it because a phone was returned to me and the person had set up the reactivation lock and then hard reset the phone through recovery. So i am using a different email than the account that reactivation lock was originally set up on.
If anyone has any other methods to turn off reactivation lock it would be appreciated. Thanks.

It was a new account. My brother bought the phone on craigslist and factory reset it. It was locked so I did the above method and it worked.

oh wow. then maybe something else you did worked. i am unable to turn off reactivation lock. i was able to get back into the phone and past the setup page where it prompts for the login, so that DID work and i thank you for that. Im just not able to turn reactivation lock off completely. I think that even though i bypassed it with my new account, the old users account is still on there and until i can sign in with their information and delete that account it'll be grayed out and in the "on" position.

This is GREAT. So, I've moved forward a little bit. Was able to register my samsung account and thereby log into the phone via samsung reactivation lock! So, that's a start. I did run into the issue of still not being able to toggle off reactivation. So, I logged into FindMyMobile and found that the reactivation lock" command works, attempting to disable the lock via find my mobile would send back an error stating it couldn't contact device (I'm doing this all without a sim but connected to to wifi. So, I've just tried to pull a factory reset on the phone via findmymobile and that triggered the phone to reset, I was stil greeted with the reactivation though. I'll report back once I"m done with setup and stuff; I gotta run out for coffee right now.

Still working on it. Still can't disable reactivation lock, not through the FindMyMobile site nor through the device. Attempted closing Samsung account (fun fact, when you close your account there it doesn't get completely closed!) and still nothing. Will update upon further movement. Until then, looking for more information.

So, I broke down and emailed Samsung. Recieved instructions and was able to rid myself of the Reactivation welcome screen, Hooray, yeah? Well, not quite. Now I'm no longer able to add my Samsung account (via either accounts page nor FindMyMobile, annnnnd the reactivation lock is listed as on and greyed in that menu. Strangely enough, the phone asks me to set my lock screen every time I restart it.
Directions followed to get me to this point, from the last point:
1: Settings > Applications> All> Samsung Account > Clear Cache (was told to clear Data but that option wasn't available)
2: Accounts > Samsung Account > Sleect Account > Menu > Remove Account
You'll get a message that the account will be removed and reactivation locked will be removed yadda yadda. Your phone will not restart.
I've restarted the phone a few times and also into ODIN/Download mode and Reactivation is still enabled.
God, I hate this phone and am super glad that I don't own it. **** Samsung, for real. (**** Verizon too). Will report back if I can make anymore progress.

Nope, best I can get is being able to get into the phone using my samsung account (original problem) but then every boot it asks you for samsung account. Beyond that I can disable the query for samsung account on boot.
Both have no way of disabling the reactivation lock via settings or via the findmymobile site. Both do not allow you to completely factory reset the phone. Both do not allow you to pave over the os with a factory image. Upon attempt of factory reset the system will ask for samsung account again on boot.

I was able to remove reactivation on one Galaxy S6 edge running 5.1.1 but unable to repeat it. Installed Samung+ and disabled setup wizard like suggested. After inputting Samsung account information in the Setup Wizard it asked to enable Reactivation lock, unchecked it and it was off. Have not been able to do it again on a different S6 edge 5.1.1.

PS: The Samsung site with the instruction says it's unavailable.

That's probably good advice, although FRP is a Google thing, so I doubt it cares about Samsung accounts.

Stolen S7 with no passcode lock - anything preventing the thief from using it ?

Hello,
A friend of mine had his Galaxy S7 stolen. The phone had no passcode or fingerprint set up, but it did have a Google account and a Samsung account set up.
While initially the phone did appear in the "find my phone" section of the Samsung account, now the Samsung account reports that no phone is registered. The phone could never be located after it was stolen, either via the Samsung service or Google service. Lock requests have been issued on both accounts, but I kind of doubt that they will have any effect ?
My question is: is there anything preventing the thief to use the phone ? Anything preventing the thief to reset it/reflash it and use it like it was a new phone ?
I did read that on iPhones, you cannot reset it/reflash it without entering the iCloud password, is some similar protection available for the S7 also ?

I think you can say goodbye to any stolen anything. It's rare to get anything back and even more rare to get something back in any kind of condition that you would actually still want it.
Anyway can't somebody who knows start a wiped/locked phone in recovery and reflash and fix it?
Call your phone service and block the phone IMEI, this will put it on a black list and never work as a cellphone again.

He's going to need some paperwork to prove he owned it. And also if he blocks it and does get it back it won't be useful.
About the only thing you can do is lock your own phone so if somebody does steal it at least they don't get all your personal data with it.
The chance for him to get his phone back is minimal since he didn't use any basic security from the beginning.

Having a panic attack about FRP reset on trade in Note

I am new here, I asked on reddit about the FRP reset for when I traded in my old Note 10 + and now someone's comment has sent me into a panic. Basically when I reset my old Note, I didn't disable the lock screen or remove any accounts, I just went to the full factory reset in settings and entered I think my Google account (pretty sure it asked for my lock screen password too) and Samsung account information and factory reset it. It reset to the Lets Go page, I remember going through that and re factory resetting it but I honestly do not remember if It made me enter in any passwords or if it would let me set up the full account. Come today and a user stated that if I did not disable the lock screen then no matter how it is reset it will always ask for the previous Google account password. I thought that was only if it was done via the volume keys menus?
However I pulled a Moto Z Force I had on 8.0 out and set it up how my Note was, did a reset and never asked for a password when I added a different Google account. So my question is, when I did that factory reset on my Note via the settings reset, did it remove FRP for good, was that the correct procedure? The Phone no longer shows up as being able to be accessed on my Google account.

You are correct. It depends on the device, but for newer Android phones such as the Note10+, if you factory-reset via the Settings rather than via recovery mode, it will delete your FRP automatically.

If FRP is present, when you attempt to set up initially it will request the original PIN set to proceed. If you don't see this there is no FRP lock present.
I always do a factory reset from within the settings menu. I have done it in recovery and when trying to set up it asks for the PIN.

When I reset it, it reset and went to the "Let's Go" screen. Does this then mean that FRP was disabled?

You need to delete your Google account on the phone before the hard reset I believe.
Otherwise the new user will be locked out without the old (your) account info.

The Google security is still active even if you do a hard reset. You need to deactivate the Google account or the next user is locked out.

To get the Note 10+ I bought a phone from Craigs List for $50.00 for a $400.00 trade-in. I did a FDR on the phone from settings and booted to recovery and did another. Samsung accepted the phone and I never heard from them. I think you're worrying over nothing.
Pretty sure as long as Samsung can get into the phone you're golden, also pretty sure they will do some kind of wipe before they sell it to someone.

If you enter the wrong code 3 times you're locked out for 72 hours. nuts.
*Had to return my first 10+ to AT&T. They wouldn't except until I entered my Google account to unlock it.

I just know when I set up the Moto running 8.0 with pin + fingerprint, just how my note was set up, I was able to factory reset it via the settings and sign in with a different google account. I didn't remove the Google account or lock screen before I factory reset it, just like when I sent my Note in.

Well Samsung already has the phone and I currently don't have $650 to give them for it, is why I'm concerned about this.
For my Moto I set it up just like my Note and factory reset it and was able to sign in on a different google account?
On my Note I, just went straight to factory data reset in settings, and entered my Google account password and lockscreen information, and my Samsung stuff and it reset to the Let's Go screen. Is this not the way to remove FRP? Anyway to remove it remotely?

For my Moto I set it up just like my Note and factory reset it and was able to sign in on a different google account?
On my Note I, just went straight to factory data reset in settings, and entered my Google account password and lockscreen information, and my Samsung stuff and it reset to the Let's Go screen. Is this not the way to remove FRP? Anyway to remove it remotely?

That's a good question.
Maybe someone here knows but Google seems more concerned with locking down the phone than user sanity. Older phones didn't have this screwball "feature". It was a very rude surprise.
I did a factory reset from settings on my note 10+ (and that's it) and have trade it in successfully. Samsung accepted it with NO issues.
It's called factory reset for a reason...

Same, but did you remove the lock screen or Google account before hand?

It's not like it changed that much from Android 8.0 to 10, so maybe just a factory reset from settings does it?

I can tell that the AT&T variant of the 10+ a hard reset doesn't touch it. I found out the hard way.

I have no idea, T mobiles website just says to do it through factory reset in settings. I bought the phone from t-mobile
