I'm giving a new Honor 6X to my father in law, and he needs something that's reliable and everything works. He lives several hours away so I won't be there to help him, and he can't tinker with his phone.
Phone is unlocked and rooted, and I installed twrp-3.1.1-0-berlin recovery already. Android version doesn't matter, this just needs to be 100% working and reliable. Even a stock debloated ROM would be fine, but I can't find anything like that and it's a PITA to manually debloat the stock ROM.
What can you suggest please?

So best to leave it stock and manually debloat? There's no debloated stock ROM (or any ROM) that's 100% working?

U can give Elite ROM 7.2 a try.....but it isn't perfect in terms of magisk, permission manager etc minor bugs- better performance than stock
LOS, AOSP have performance issues imo
I tried almost every ROM and finally settled with stock if u want most stable and everything working accepting poor optimization of RAM and performance of EMUI 5.0
Here's a guide on bloatware safe to remove made by me https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6x/how-to/guide-list-bloat-software-emui-safe-to-t3700814 - it could sound boring, but manually remove bloats on EMUI is the safe way to achieve a "clean" rom (stable the most, overall) for your father in law, actually. Hope it could be helpful.

Yes, this seems to be the consensus. Can I stay rooted on stock without the bootup nag screen? Or can I remove the bloat without being rooted? I don't think system apps can be removed without root.

Hi,
I've been using Nexus phones for years, and I'm thinking of buying a Mi Mix 2S. I don't really like the version of Android that Huawei ships though, and I'd like to be able to install a stock ROM. I assume that this phone will have Treble support (since it shipped with Oreo) and that, because of that, it should be easy to install a custom ROM on it.
Is all of this correct? Will it be easy to install a custom ROM on this phone, or should I go for a different phone?
Your thread follows similar questioning to mine. https://forum.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-mi-mix-2s/help/phone-support-project-treble-t3769780
It does look like it will support Treble and will make roms easy to create.

You know this is a Xaomi phone not a Huawei phone... you won't get the Huawei stuff on a Xaomi phone... although Xaomi is probably further from stock android if you are looking for a stock experience

I doubt it!! Nexus phones are way easier and less finicky!! Mi Mix 2 is my first and probably last Xiomi phone!! Pain in the ass to unlock, and flash roms. You constantly have to format data which wipes phone. Take time to backup everything including nandroids. Wouldnt be so bad if had an sd card

I am looking at this device, as it seems to tick all the boxes (one of very few).
Why did you feel it was such a pain to unlock. I read over the process for the 2, and it doesn't seem to be complicated (though you have to wait 72 hrs). I've had much worse.
I get that an SD would help (the only box it doesn't check for me), but if I've been flashing ROMS for ages, and backups is just part of the deal for me, so I use Ti Backup.

I also have been rooting for years. I starting jailbreaking iphones in 2007, when it was a very long process. As You stated, this phone is almost perferct as for my needs. Bootloader issue was binding. Had to try several Chinese VPN to get it to pass properly. Again, the issue with having to format data!!! I like to flash on the go sometimes but never will on this phone because of the likely hood of getting into a bootloop. Its not a compldeal breaker for me but I may not ever get snother because of it. My nexus 6p, j could flash anything and worst case scenario, I restore with Nandroid.
Dont get me wrong. It has been a good phone with good battery life. Beautiful design. Camera should have been better. In the end, I dont like having to be reliant on needing a computer near bye in case something goes wrong.
Xiaomi phones are pretty easy to unlock bootloader although sometimes you have to wait a week or use some VPN that have Chinese route, so it's very simple to install custom ROM on them.

If youre coming from or going to a Miui based rom you need to format data! This wipes everything. If your jumping from 1 Aosp or similar rom to another you should be ok to dirty flash. As always to avoid issues, its always good to clean flash ( this does not mean format data) so not to bad if youre staying with a non-Miui rom. What I am seeing so far are various issues on non Miui roms with this phone!

Planning to get the mi mix 2s but I will for sure flash custom Roms as soon as I get it, this is why I also consider the 1+5t(im pretty happy with the 1+1 currently). Just happened to unlock my Mix 2 a few days ago. The process is pretty complicated with an odd 72h waiting time. Became really nervous after wiping system+data and noticing that flashable ZIPs had been wiped by unlock process. But managed to sideload latest OmniROM weekly (0408) and GApps. All is working well now - fully satisfied.

Hi friends,
I am a bit unsure. At the moment I'm on OOS Open Beta 3. Now that the official Pie based OOS was released, I am wondering if I stay on Open Beta or change to official OOS.
What are you doing? Tell me. What are the cons and the pros?
Thank you!
btw.: If somewhere there's already a poll for this, then please tell me.
Open Beta = faster updates, less stable (at least this last declared from oneplus but i've noticed no difference)
Official = slower updates, more stable (but as i said up it's the same)
For updates i mean you get first the latest features that oneplus give us

Incorrect statement!
The change log for official build is taken from Open Beta 2 change log.
Means that the open Beta 3 was released after the official build was certified.
That means that Open Beta will be parallel channel with Official builds.

No, there will still be open beta builds that introduce new features etc.
Funk wizard said 4-8 weeks each stable update, and either 1-2 or 2-4 I don't remember for open beta ota
I didn't expect that the most of you use the stable OOS. I mean: We're on XDA here!
Wow. Thank you!
Well, this is my 1st OnePlus device and i m super happy to be on Beta channel, i was little upset when i saw the stable release came so quick after 3 weeks of beta started. But when i saw the stable release has less feature than the OB3 I decided to stay on Beta channel.
But, yeah I m little comfused, whats new we will be getting on the beta channel after the stable pie has released?
And i want to know 1 thing, will our device always be uncertified till we are on Beta channel?

it's opinion.
But regarding what you listed Miui ticks the box for them all.
Just use it when you get it see how you get on if not happy then flash another and so on
miui is the optimal ROM for it no doubt as i tried most custom roms!!!! ram management, Battery life and features all in one MIUI
although i would recommend not the stock miui But the XIAOMI.EU rom and sphinx kernel!!!

I bought the phone to work for me, not me work for phone for free. No time to read custom ROM thread every day, wait for dev to buy new phone and abandon.
Flashing ROM, DFE, All-Region & TWRP (recovery.img) for every update takes 3 minutes for me. That's the only time I waste on phone every week or two weeks, just 3 minutes. So official open beta for me.

my last device was a mi max 2 and I stayed on nougat, on that one rom for 14 months lol. I don't really care about updates. as long as the rom is snappy and fast and generally bug free.

what's the rom that's most stable right now? I'm on China rom and have 7 days to wait to unlock my bootloader.

Same here. Can someone please give us some inputs as to which ROM is best to stick around? (other than the MIUI, I hate it)
Stability and reliability along with good camera usage is my necessity.
Had used PE on Redmi Note 5 Pro for more than 6 months. PE for Violet seems to be slightly lagging when I used it. And I am unable to use finger print in LOS.
I just flashed Evolution ROM. It seems to be built on PE and so far it looks very neat. Will update later with more details.
UPDATE: Evolution 2.0 seems to be the better among the AOSP based ROMs out there. I never noticed any issues. GCAM, battery, signal coverage and integrity, stability etc, seems to be really impressive... Close to stock roms. In case you want AOSP ROM, i would suggest this one strongly.

You can flash PE AOSP for stability. I am still on a June release, with zero issues. I'm sure the latest build will be stable and improved too.
