Tips and Tricks - Samsung Galaxy A71 5G Questions & Answers

So just moved from a note 4 to the a71 5g uw for verizon. 2 hours and I hate not having access to magisk or custom roms. Additionally, I want to know what fool at verizon decided to make netflix a system app
Down to the point, before the note 4 got root, they had a thread in regards to what is missed about root and work arounds for it. I would like to start that here. For instance the thread on managing ads with dns rather than adaway (which required root). Mine was the sheer customizability. Root allows so many different changes from just uninstalling system apps (*cough* Netflix *cough*) to changing the operating system.
In regards to uninstalling system apps, the note 4 group had an adb script that was probably pulled from somewhere else, that permanently disabled all the bloatware. Does anyone have anything like that for the A71?

Very well explained, and works pretty good on non root devices.

Owners! Are you surviving without root?

Hey Sprint Galaxy S8 owners,
I'm looking to upgrade from S6 soon, and wondering how everyone is coping without root?
How did you get your apps (and app data) over to the new phone without Titanium Backup?
It's going good. Can't say I really miss root though. Maybe just YouTube background. As for ads, I use a VPN anyway and there's an option to block ads so that's not an issue. I had to start brand new when it came to app data. No big deal for me. I haven't had root since october, when I got my S7 and no root was available.

That's promising. The things I really use root for are:
Titanium Backup
Unlimited HotSpot (Sprint)
OS Customization Hacks (Status Bar, etc)
And before I upgraded to Android N, I used a ton of Xposed modules.

I still miss Titanium Backup, but am surviving so far without root. A few apps (like uber, lyft and navigation) work better without root (while they do their best to vacuum up my info).
As for unlimited hotspot--- there's a pretty simple workaround which has been posted elsewhere so you can still have it. Only catch is every time you update your profile, you might have to re-do the simple workaround.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-galaxy-s8+/help/hotspot-workaround-t3608619/page3
Also-- I've found that the $1.99 app BK Disabler (PLUS THE PLUGIN, YOU MUST ALSO INSTALL THE PLUGIN) is definitely worth it. It let's you disable much of the otherwise blocked spam and notification apps and packages.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kunkunsoft.packagedisabler&hl=en
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplysecuresolution.pdplugin
It has a widget functionality so that I can turn off and on a whole group of packages with a single click-- like location-- which I only use when i need it for navigation, but otherwise don't want to be tracked.
Hope this helps some.
Just got the S8. So here we go! My first order of business is trying to get my AppData transferred. Hoping Helium does its thing.
Next, I'm not much of a fan of AI or personal assistants.. I might get used to it, but that Bixby button would make a great back or home button. Actually, I'd be fine with it just being press to go Home and hold for kill app.
Good news, it looks like root has been achieved. Just waiting for the release!
OMG.. Best news of the day!

New to Android! Block ads on YT and download pics/videos on Instagram?

Hi!
I'm a veteran user of jailbroken iPhones, and have just switched over to Android after buying a Galaxy S8+.
I used tweaks called YouTube++ and Instagram++ on my iPhone, and I have a hard time seeing myself living without similar tweaks on Android. What's most important is to be able to block ads and allow background play on YouTube, and being able to download pictures and videos from Instagram.
Is it possible to do this on Android, if yes, how do I go about fixing it?
Will I need to root my phone? Will I lose my warranty? What are the pros and cons of rooting?
Sorry for all these noob questions!!!
For instagram you can install Xinsta for xposed, and for youtube you can get this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-iytbp-injected-youtube-background-t3560900 there is a root and a non root version, the bad thing about the non root version is that you can't use the fullscreen-feature for galaxy s8.
Rooting will make you lose warranty probably, but some countries have protection against it. You can do many things on android without root though, much more than on iOS so it's not so often needed.
If it helps, my S8+ is called SM-G955F.
You can google OGInstagram, same for YouTube, tho YouTube its an older version it still work good to me, and no root need it.
Try adhell works perfectly on Non rooted phones.. If rooted use Adaway

1. Setup adb
2. Insert "adb devices" to verify that the device is connected properly.
2. Uninstall app using this list ( You can copy-paste these commands and run in command prompt individually. ): https://raw.githubusercontent.com/khlam/debloat-samsung-android/master/commands.txt
Overall guide is here : https://www.naldotech.com/remove-bloatware-samsung-galaxy-a32-5g/
I have rooted phone for multiple reasons, one is to be able to uninstall bloatware.
Experimenting little bit with some apps claiming they are able to uninstall bloatware (Titanium, well... surprised badly, while so many good references I heard, Magisk module debloat, Root uninstaller).... but to be honest, I have no clue which apps/modules I can uninstall without consequences, there are so many of them.
Sure, I uninstall those, I know and wish to uninstall - FB, Instagram, Carrier apps and then what?
My intention was to disable whole Knox and ..... well am not sure, its good approach just select to uninstall those item having knox in name.
Any tips or whats yours typical choose to uninstall?

If you want to keep it stock and debloat it the easiest way is to use a Package Disabler.
You can enabled/disabled real time. Useful for troubleshooting. Uses little resources and battery. After activating it you can firewall block if desired ie with Karma Firewall for example.

So that method requires the user to have some knowledge of which apps can be safely deleted.
My method allows them to debloat without that worry

I've never boot looped any phones using this kind of app in 6 years. Some apps like One UI Home or Galaxy Graphics Driver shouldn't be disabled.
Other times apps you normally wouldn't disable you want to because it's using excessive battery or misbehaving like Playstore or Google backup Transport.

As I told my students over many years.
There is never ever only one way to do anything.
What is great for one person may not suit another
Just don't use stock at all, some apps like ONE UI home you might be able to get a workaround. There is always a workaround for anything. There use to be workarounds and probably they still exist but in some other way then before, I use to do.
You can remove at least some of the bloatware just by flashing a PNG (Papua New Guinea) or some other financially-unpromising country stock firmware. Just look at the size of the CSC image file, it must be about 64 MB. For example, prism.img in the PNG firmware is absolutely minimal and completely devoid of the "app" dir, so you'll get no forcefully installed "partner" applications. Many other unneeded apps are either uninstallable or blockable in Android 11. Even Google Services are blockable, you'll only get two extra warning notifications after a phone reboot but otherwise no other functionality lost (in case you're using Aurora Store instead of Google Play that is). But actually it will be a pretty privacy-lame system, because there's still a lot of Samsung's and Google's stuff left in the system. So basically, to achieve at least some kind of actual degooglification you have to root it with Magisk, and then uproot all the Samsung's and Google's apps via "adb shell pm uninstall".

Question Functionality after root?

If i root the device wtihout flashing a custom rom will there be anything major in terms of functionality that will be lost? Will I still be able to pair with devices such as the SPen, galaxy buds, galaxy watch (in the future), I've seen threads talking about being able to patch the watch, but nothing else. I am aware that apps like SPay and secure vault will not work and I know about magisk hide and zygisk. Also, is it true that HD streaming on apps such as Netflix is not possible with root? (not a dealbreaker). I want to root the device, I've used it for 3-2 months but I want to know if there is anything major that would sway me from doing so.
The main thing you will lose is any app that needs the built-in security like some banking apps including Samsung Pay. I think I read that it will break the Samsung health apps too. What is the reason for root if you are not loading a custom ROM?

On some devices, you do. You get L3 widevine instead of L1 (which enables FHD content on streaming services). Some devices don't suffer this, however. It's hard to say which do.
You can bypass some stuff like Samsung Health and Galaxy Wearable by installing modded apps, you'll lose Samsung Pass and Pay permanently. You can bypass Secure Folder with a few modifications, though you would need a little technical know-how.
what i loose if i root s22 ultra? magisk?
Unless I am not understanding your question, this has already been addressed above.

App that allows root permissions without root?

Hello,
I was browsing around XDA the other day. I stumbled across the name of an app with a GitHub page. I am trying to remember the name of the app and cannot. It said it would allow root apps to function without actually rooting your phone. Does anyone happen to know what it is called?
I have a Pixel 4xl. I can and have rooted it before. However, even though I hid Magisks and excluded a app for a real casino I got banned. They tried to say it was because I was not able to be geolocated. However, the app confirmed with a message stating my phone was rooted.
I would like to be able to run AdAway without having to allow it to work via VPN. I already have a VPN which I use when I am not playing one of my online casinos. There are also a few more root apps I like. I would like to use them without any worry.
Thank you,
Rocky

Pixel 4xl I ended up finding the app. It was Shizuku. I did not get a change to read all about it when I first heard about it. The page I was viewing almost made it sound like a magisk replacement. Then, my phone died and I couldn't remember what it was called.
I wish there was an app or something that will allow this permissions for apps that need them to work better. However, remain undetectable at the same time. That would be great. There are a few root apps I love to install. However, root is not as popular as it once was to me at least.
that app allows running as adb shell, no root access can be provided.
