APN changes - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Questions & Answers

So per another thread there was a discussion re 5g
A user suggested that they were using a particular APN with the following changes:
It should say MVNO type, and MVNO value.
MVNO TYPE: GID
MVNO Value: 53FF
I can't seem to make any APN changes to my existing NXTGYNPHONE apn nor when I add a new one will it stick
Any one know a workaround??

I added an additional APN and it stuck. My phone is from AT&T.

Will you clarify what you meant by adding another apn?

This is the APN I brought up in the other post the OPnwas referring too. To be able to use this APN you have to be on Unlimited Starter, extra, or Elite plans for consumer. And you have to have have your 5G device IMEI updated in ATTs system(I am an employee and have been fixing issues from improper 5G setup)

Here you go.

Can you share the exact APN settings to use? The link for an image a few posts back is not working for me - I would like to add this APN and then if necessary, contact ATT support about provisioning .....
thanks

Thanks guys for bumping this forward. I live in an area where there's probably no 5G anyway but next week I will be in an area where I know there will be 5G

Weirdest thing. I make the new APN click save and it disappears ????

If I'm not provisioned properly would that be why when I try to add an APN it just disappears?

Ok I found out what makes it disappears
Any changes I try to make it as to the last two entries
Mobile Virtual Network ........
Causes the APN to disappear when I try to save it

I have noticed this behavior with past Android phones when attempting to add an APN that is restricted by the carrier (AT&T)
I.e. I am on a 2G phone attempting to add a 3G APN (wap.cingular to phone)
3G phone attempting to add a 4G APN (phone to nxtgenphone)
4G phone attempting to add a 5G APN (nxtgenphone to enhancedphone)
In all cases, behavior was as described. The system appeared to allow the APN but it would disappear upon entry. Note that if you alter the spelling in any way (try to add enhancedphon for example) the system will allow you.
Appears to be a feature check similar to Mobile Hotspot being disallowed without the proper feature codes in the system.
Update the plan to a 5G capable plan / update the IMEI to a 5G capable device and you'll get access to that APN.
Note that with the current iteration of 5G on AT&T (low band only), LTE-A is performing better in most cases...

So I'm starting to wonder, what was the point buying a 5G phone if we don't have the option to to change from Nextgen phone??

Wow...you were spot on. Called At&t and they did not setup device properly and I was on the wrong service plan

If you are on At&t you may have to call just as previous poster said. They didn't bother to provision correctly when I activated device nor was I on correct plan.

Can you manually change back to the other APN and make it better?

Once I add the Nextgenphone Apn..like you said I can't change the last 2 options. If I try they do not stick. I can go back to that but have to keep GID and 53fff I think it is. Hopefully it was just the person I was talking to. Going to test more today

I called and had to get my account reprovisioned as well. Crazy that I had the S20 for months and my account was never properly 5g provisioned.
So far I noticed no difference in the call quality. I'll keep you updated.
Also attached are my APNs now without even rebooting.

Constantly getting disconnected from Google servers on LTE

Is anyone else seeing this?
I have both the skyrocket and the Elevate 4G LTE hotspot device and both are showing the same issue: Google services can't keep a steady connection and it simply times out.
My Skyrocket is pure stock and i know that it is getting disconnected from google servers because i stop receiving google voice SMS, gtalk disconnects and i don't receive gmail emails. other apps that use data DON'T get disconnected.
It takes about 10 minutes from the moment i turn off the screen until the connection to google is dropped. the only way to get the connection back is to wake the device login to gtalk again.
Initially i thought it was the Skyrocket but i am having the same issue when i connect my Galaxy tab via the Elevate 4G hotsopt. same issue exactly.
This does not happen on my galaxy note (3G device) and does not happen over wifi.
It also doesn't happen when i tether other android devices to my Galaxy note.
it only happens on LTE devices and it is very annoying.
Is anyone else seeing this?
I guess i am the only one with this issue?
No one is using gtalk ant notice how you don't get messages when on LTE?
Bump!
Still seeing this issue constantly. Am I the only one constantly getting disconnected from Google servers on lte?
First. I hate you. Lol i want the note so bad. Second did you try calling at&t and tell them?. Mabye the can reset your data. I do not have this problem. When the skyrocket first came out lte was screwey, and everyone was changing there apn. But they fixed it after a week.
I keep seeing "unable to connect to server".....but didn't know what it was. Figured it was something to do with being rooted.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
Yes it is not an issue with my phone or APN settings as i said it is also happening with their Elevate 4G LTE hotsopt.
I tried call AT&T again yesterday and it is like talking to the wall. they just don't understand what i want and they tell me to "call google as it is not our problem"...
I am surprised no one else is posting about this here except from the poster above me.
I'm experiencing the same issue on two LTE phones, the Vivid and the skyrocket Google talk randomly disconnects.

LTE in Sacramento? Didn't know ATT activated the NorCal central valley yet.
So it seems like this is CA related.
I tried to report this to at&t yet again, this time i spoke to one of their supervisors and he said he will run a few checks and get back to me.
Sac doesn't have LTE.... I was just responding to this thread because I'm getting the same disconnection.
I should of been more specific....I get disconnected throughout the day from the servers and I'm NOT on LTE....I assumed it was because of the ROM I'm using (alien 5). Hopefully someone figures it out....I myself know barely a thing about any of this, it's a miracle I was even able to root and flash lol.

But are you provisioned on an LTE plan? if you are and you are using APN called "PTA" then you will suffer from this even if you are not in an LTE coverage zone.
If you are using APN named "phone" and still suffering from this in a none LTE area then i don't think it is related to what i am talking about.
I just checked and my APN setting says "ATT pta". I assume this can be changes to "phone"?

I've seen this, too. I made a topic about it a few weeks back but no one else seemed to have the issue. I first thought it had something to do with the lack of the "colored" signal indicator new to 2.3 that indicates the GTalk connection. I too lose the connection randomly. I too have the LTE PTA, but am not on LTE...I live aobut 40 miles south of DC.
Is anyone else with this also using a Google Apps account? I wondered if that had anything to do with it. AT&T was also completely unhelpful for me.

Yes this is exactly what i am talking about.
Did you try to manually change your APN from PTA to "phone" (you need to create a new APN and set that phone to use that). See if this solved your problem?
I have the same issue! I'm located in new London CT. There is LTE for the Amtrak line that runs to NYC. My google services disconnects when I'm connected to LTE. I have to open gtalk to sign back in.
I have the problem in los angeles. But not google, my entire data drops in and out. Its super unreliable. I don't have the same issue in San Francisco on LTE. I'm wondering if its oversaturation of LTE in the area? My data when on LTE was so horrible the other day that using my phone to navigate to an unknown location was worthless. It would lose connection and recalculate so often that I was glad I knew kinda where I needed to be. Would have launched my phone into the street out of frustration if I didn't kinda know the area I was in.
My LTE speeds in San Francisco/San Jose are usually 30-60Mbps. In LA I never see over 15Mbps.

Verizon HTC One M8 on T-Mobile

I have an account with T-Mobile, I have my parents there with the iPhones 5s, I just popped in my T-Mobile sim card into my Verizon HTC One M8 and I get LTE and everything! everything works fine! I don't know if this is suppose to happen, I'm actually shocked that Verizon didn't carrier lock this phone.
I am leaving T-Mobile little by little but if anyone is wondering if it works with other carriers, well add T-Mobile to the yes list.

Just found this video and ran through the comments. Someone addressed it and the person who made the video said they have everything working on T-Mobile including SMS.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJwqFersSoo
The person that posted the video said sending SMS is not working for him either.
Ouch, I stand corrected at this point. When I tested it yesterday, it worked. I surfed, and got messages. HOWEVER, I did not respond to those messages lol. I was recording a new video...so with that being said, yes you are right at this point...it does not work. It works perfectly fine on my other Verizon phones that I use on T-Mobile.

even if you were ever able to fully unlock a Sprint version handset, it may not support the bands needed to fully run properly on T-Mo's GSM network.
but search to see what bands (frequencies) your handset needs to support, to run on T-Mo's network. then call Sprint's customer support to help you unlock your handset for international use - say you're going to Europe for about a week and that you want to be able to use their SIMs.

which US GSM network are you using it on? i've already had my S6e unlocked a while back. since I also have service on both ATT & T-Mo networks, i have tried using a bunch of known working APNs (from my factory unlocked N5), but I haven't had any luck.
I tried going through the first several pages to see what APNs were used. however, I've seen the user 'iBowToAndroid' mention several times it won't work in the US. did that change towards the end of the thread. still a lot of pages to read through...

ok guys there will not be no lte but it can be unlocked but not through the thread my brother my friend @idone will quickly unlock it at a great price also but you will on have 3g but it is still fast if i was helpful click thanks http://idoneapps.com/
If you look in Settings>About Device>Status> it will show the actual data network type you are connected to.
HSPA and HSPA+ will be working, and for T-Mobile if the towers in your area have been upgraded for LTE on 1900mhz LTE will work also.
The phone will just always show a "3G" icon in the StatusBar when in GSM/UMTS mode, it can be changed with a build.prop edit, but then it will always show 4g instead.
But do check here Settings>About Device>Status>
You will get more than 3G

I also am having problems with getting 4G LTE to work on T-Mobile. My sprint S6 edge+ is domestically unlocked for GSM. I'm able to get 3G to work while in GSM/UMTS mode, but will not work in "Automatic". Please help ;(

How to force lte only without root in Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge

I see a lot people trying root only for this so I decided to post it.
This is tested only in SM-G935F, if you have other variant you can try it.
Its very easy just download this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tapbase.LTEswitcher
Open the app and go to set preferred network type

Select lte only
That all
Note that while you are in lte only mode you can't make calls, you can go back to normal mode selecting it in the app or in Settings/Mobile Networks/Network Mode and select LTE/WCDMA/GSM

In my phone that code don't work. I tried that code and a lot of differents secrets code and don't work. In my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge I haved the same problem and nobody in the threads of S6 Edge know how to do it without root. The way of using hidden menu works for me until Galaxy S5. This was the way that works for me so I posted for people with the same problem. Also this way is much faster and easier that running codes.

Well the people(including myself) use this when they have more wcdma signal than lte, the phone will select the wcdma network, that is more slow than lte, but you know you have lte signal so you can force it to use your lte internet that is fastest than wcdma.
For example in my home my phone keep changing from wcdma to lte all the time and that makes my internet super slow. My internet speed in auto mode is like 1mbs of download with full signal, when I force Lte only my signal is like one bar of signal but the internet speed increases to 25 Mbs of download
So when I don't need to make calls I force lte only to download things faster

So, on part.. I might have to say this is a little sketchy.. Only because I did this and lost my messaging number. That AT&T Number for the text messages. It disappeared when I switched. Keep an eye out for those text messages.

Unless provider has volte option in the network, it's not possible to make calls on a 4g network
its useless like tits on bull. Its only for cosmetic look only. You can flash the ATT CSC to get "LTE" icon. http://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/development/utility-flashable-csc-selection-30-t3392957...
I don't under stand. If You select LTE only via this application, You can't make a calls. Without if phone choose manually LTE, You can browse and make a calls? Can You explain to me that matter?
Hi guys I'm new to this so bear with me if you please x)
I have a month old S7 Edge that does not appear to have VoLTE, I'm guessing it has something to do with this beeing Norway and the phone for some reason is hungarian?
Seeing as this thread is about forcing LTE and my provider has VoLTE option on the network. Will forcing LTE fix my problem without making me brake the warranty conditions?
The technical support guy at the store where i bought it said that his boss might not give me a new S7 Edge or even pay to get it fixed.
I'm not what you would call wealthy so i'm kinda f***** if they suddenly say that they will fix it and I've broken warranty conditions ^^
If you think this fits better in another thread please point me in the right direction =)
thx =)
Hmm.. im gonna try this on my wife's A36 tomorrow, see if its work. If it does then i can use samsung again coz in my country the operator give 10GB of bonus only in 4G network. But in some area 4G is bad :v I had to use lenovo coz its able to 4G only.
thanks for the app

LTE band 4 working on Verizon?

Anyone with issues getting band 4? At home I always have it but am stuck on band 13. Any suggestions?
The app LTE discovery will let you know what band your on.
It's good to see someone has it on Verizon. Mine won't connect to the network at all.

Did you take your sim from an active phone on your Verizon account? Have hd voice added on as extra service?
Problem for me is HTC's site says it has band 4 which is xlte for Verizon. It won't recognize band 4.

Ok. On Verizon's site the added service is HD voice. Maybe you know someone with a phone that will be compatible and pop your sim in to get HD voice added on your account.

The Verizon associate popped it into his own phone and tried it, but the phone probably has to be actually added to the account I'm thinking cuz it didn't work.

Well, once your sim goes into a phone that phone will show up on your account. Then you need to go to my devices and then apps and services and add HD voice. You might need to upgrade your sim too.
I don't mind helping out but I'm trying to find out if anyone has been able to get band 4 on their U11. Each thing I've said you negate it like you know the answer. This thread was specifically made for my question.

Sorry it got off topic. I'll let you know when I can actually use it. Apparently 6P had it so I swapped with my mom's phone and was able to add hd to my line. If it works I'll let you know what band I'm getting.

Well that sucks. That means lower speeds, another crippling of a great phone.
Curious as to where you got the answer and if there is any reasoning behind it.
Sent from my HTC U11 using Tapatalk
I bet Verizon says it is because the phone was not certified by them and as such they don't guarantee any features to work and blah blah blah when in reality it is probably their computers automatically unchecking a box on your customer record to guarantee the system will never let your device utilize the features

Come on brother, don't leave us in suspense, where did you get the info.
I've downloaded the LTE Discovery app onto my HTC 10 and I'm trying to use it to see if there is Band 4 around my area, before I try out the U11.

Post #99 in the Verizon thread.. He posted a bunch of info on communications with HTC, Verizon, and AT&T.
Really slow lte on mine too..looks like only band 13
Band 13 only here in Virginia.
Band 13 in Syracuse. Went back to my 10 and getting 4 consistently.
Stuck on band 13 here in Columbia, SC too. Band 4 works fine on my old One M8. HTC support has been extremely unhelpful. They keep pushing me off on Verizon. If this isn't sorted out before my return window is up this thing is going back.
"Thanks for the account verification. The HTC u11 is not capable with LTE Advanced https://t.co/JueO1hTCbK. Since this is a non-Verizon device, we can not guarantee that all features will work when comparing to a Verizon device. ^ZY
In order to use LTE Advanced, the device will need a carrier update. The HTC u11 may not be able to get the update since it is a non-Verizon device. Verizon LTE Advanced-capable devices already have the necessary hardware and software. LTE Advanced uses software to combine two or three channels – a combination of 700 MHz, AWS, and PCS spectrum to provide peak speeds. ^ZY"
Guys this is what i got after talking to VZW CS

Same here in Miami. Only Band 13, when my s8+ used Band 4 in the same areas.
