Constantly getting disconnected from Google servers on LTE - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Is anyone else seeing this?
I have both the skyrocket and the Elevate 4G LTE hotspot device and both are showing the same issue: Google services can't keep a steady connection and it simply times out.
My Skyrocket is pure stock and i know that it is getting disconnected from google servers because i stop receiving google voice SMS, gtalk disconnects and i don't receive gmail emails. other apps that use data DON'T get disconnected.
It takes about 10 minutes from the moment i turn off the screen until the connection to google is dropped. the only way to get the connection back is to wake the device login to gtalk again.
Initially i thought it was the Skyrocket but i am having the same issue when i connect my Galaxy tab via the Elevate 4G hotsopt. same issue exactly.
This does not happen on my galaxy note (3G device) and does not happen over wifi.
It also doesn't happen when i tether other android devices to my Galaxy note.
it only happens on LTE devices and it is very annoying.
Is anyone else seeing this?

I guess i am the only one with this issue?
No one is using gtalk ant notice how you don't get messages when on LTE?

Bump!
Still seeing this issue constantly. Am I the only one constantly getting disconnected from Google servers on lte?

First. I hate you. Lol i want the note so bad. Second did you try calling at&t and tell them?. Mabye the can reset your data. I do not have this problem. When the skyrocket first came out lte was screwey, and everyone was changing there apn. But they fixed it after a week.

I keep seeing "unable to connect to server".....but didn't know what it was. Figured it was something to do with being rooted.

Yes it is not an issue with my phone or APN settings as i said it is also happening with their Elevate 4G LTE hotsopt.
I tried call AT&T again yesterday and it is like talking to the wall. they just don't understand what i want and they tell me to "call google as it is not our problem"...
I am surprised no one else is posting about this here except from the poster above me.

I'm experiencing the same issue on two LTE phones, the Vivid and the skyrocket Google talk randomly disconnects.

LTE in Sacramento? Didn't know ATT activated the NorCal central valley yet.

So it seems like this is CA related.
I tried to report this to at&t yet again, this time i spoke to one of their supervisors and he said he will run a few checks and get back to me.

Sac doesn't have LTE.... I was just responding to this thread because I'm getting the same disconnection.
I should of been more specific....I get disconnected throughout the day from the servers and I'm NOT on LTE....I assumed it was because of the ROM I'm using (alien 5). Hopefully someone figures it out....I myself know barely a thing about any of this, it's a miracle I was even able to root and flash lol.

But are you provisioned on an LTE plan? if you are and you are using APN called "PTA" then you will suffer from this even if you are not in an LTE coverage zone.
If you are using APN named "phone" and still suffering from this in a none LTE area then i don't think it is related to what i am talking about.

I just checked and my APN setting says "ATT pta". I assume this can be changes to "phone"?

You can't edit the son. You must add a new one. Not sure about the mms issue. I don't use mms.

Well I'll follow this thread....hopefully someone can chime and figure this out

I've seen this, too. I made a topic about it a few weeks back but no one else seemed to have the issue. I first thought it had something to do with the lack of the "colored" signal indicator new to 2.3 that indicates the GTalk connection. I too lose the connection randomly. I too have the LTE PTA, but am not on LTE...I live aobut 40 miles south of DC.
Is anyone else with this also using a Google Apps account? I wondered if that had anything to do with it. AT&T was also completely unhelpful for me.

Yes this is exactly what i am talking about.
Did you try to manually change your APN from PTA to "phone" (you need to create a new APN and set that phone to use that). See if this solved your problem?

I have the same issue! I'm located in new London CT. There is LTE for the Amtrak line that runs to NYC. My google services disconnects when I'm connected to LTE. I have to open gtalk to sign back in.

I have the problem in los angeles. But not google, my entire data drops in and out. Its super unreliable. I don't have the same issue in San Francisco on LTE. I'm wondering if its oversaturation of LTE in the area? My data when on LTE was so horrible the other day that using my phone to navigate to an unknown location was worthless. It would lose connection and recalculate so often that I was glad I knew kinda where I needed to be. Would have launched my phone into the street out of frustration if I didn't kinda know the area I was in.
My LTE speeds in San Francisco/San Jose are usually 30-60Mbps. In LA I never see over 15Mbps.

I'm running gc 1.5, and as of yesterday afternoon I have not been able to pick up 3g or 4g radio. I've seen 1x pop up twice now, but only for short periods of time.
I'm on vacation in the va beach area, so I can't re odin my phone right this minute, but I have been running the same rom for at least a month now and this is first time having these problems.

I flashed the EP1Q leak, but I didn't take out my sim card. I read to pull it when using the Samsung flashing utility and I didn't do that. I'm not sure if it needs to be removed when using Odin but I'm going to start taking it out for that also. I picked up a new sim and I'm fine now.

it doesn't need to be taken out for odin, but yeah it seems like some people are having they're 4G sim or phone radio crap out on them leading to either a replacement phone or new sim... its understandable seeing as this is the first "generation" of verizon's 4G coverage and phones, so the technology isn't up to par yet
Do you think I need to un root before going into verizon asking for a new sim?
Plus, I can still make calls and text, just no data connection.

its probably a good idea, if they decide to check your phone then they might deny you saying you voided the warranty
I've had signal issues as well. I've *****ed about it in a few threads looking for answers. This is the first time I've seen the sim card brought into the discussion. Can you guys tell me what types of things you dealt with?
I may un root and head on over to vzw.

I definitely would unroot. The kid I talked knew what was up, but I didn't admit anything.
Here in Western New York I've been experiencing difficulties as of either yesterday or Wednesday. Same deal no data. I will see 3g come up sometimes but 1x will emerge a lot. Currently have 4g with 4 bars. I haven't changed locations or worked at a different spot since i got my phone so it is either my phone or verizon. I think it has to do with Verizon. I wouldn't think all of our radios would start to going at the same time .
UPDATE: flashed to EP1Q's Modems on froyo and I'm getting 17mbps, speedtest app still gives me faulty readings

Yet Another Signal Issue

Hey everyone. So long story short, I took advantage of T-Mobile's offer to pay off my VZW contract, and purchased the Nexus 5. Now, from my extensive searches all over the internet, it is pretty apparent that this phone has a lot of signal issues. Mine, however, appears to be a bit different and I haven't really come across it yet. So this is what happens:
I have pretty good signal everywhere with T-Mobile. At home, however, it's not so great (but workable). Occasionally, I go into a spot where I lose signal. The problem is, that signal never comes back. Just today, I lost signal in my elevator. I went into the car, drove to a point where I ALWAYS have full LTE, and look at my phone: No Signal, Emergency calls only. I go into the phone status menu in the device settings, and according to the DBM, I have FULL signal (yet the top right corner indicates a little lack-of-signal triangle). The only way to "reconnect" to the network is to go to mobile network > network operators and to manually select T-Mobile after it searches for networks. Then, it reconnects to the network with full signal. Again, this isn't like the other network issues that people seem to be having, where they suddenly lose signal. My radio is fine. It transitions seamlessly between 3G and LTE. The problem, however, is that sometimes, after going into a low coverage area and losing signal, I can't get it back.
Has anybody ever had this issue? I don't think it's a hardware issue, because the phone is reporting that it is receiving signal in the status menu.

I have tmobile as well and I haven't had this problem yet. It comes out of no signal fine and usually pretty quick. Can you still make calls or does it say "mobile network not available". I would go to a tmobile store when you can and ask them. Don't call, those people don't know anything.

Thats really weird. I haven't heard that before either. I know this phone has a bunch of signal problems, but I haven't hear this as one of them. As I said, try going to a tmobile store. They might be able to help by giving you a new sim card or something. If that doesn't work, I would RMA the phone.
When you say "where I normally have a good LTE signal" what are you comparing that to? When you had vzw? Or another time with the same phone on tmo? Maybe tmo isn't good in your area and you're better off with vzw? Just a thought. I had vzw for 11 years and switched to tmo April 2013. Better than vzw in my area. My N5 has no signal issues that I'm aware of

I mean that, in that same exact area, when I manually reconnect to the T-Mobile network, I have full bars of blazing fast LTE. In that same exact spot, prior to manually reconnecting, the phone was telling me that I had no signal just seconds before. I'm referring to only T-Mobile, and only the Nexus 5.

Have you tried disabling LTE and just run with 3G? Not permanently, but for testing purposes.
Sounds odd.. when i lose signal completely its in a no coverage area... makes sense right but when i step into coverage
it will lock back onto the network (EDGE) after 20 seconds or so and 10 more seconds should lock into the data (LTE/HSPA)

The problem is that, as long as you have strong service and don't lose signal, the problem is impossible to replicate. That's probably what your service center saw. I downloaded an app today to help monitor how long it takes to regain signal. If the data adds up, I plan to use it.

The problem occurs even when my phone is standing still. I have it on my desk where it has a five bar reception 24/7. I never moved it at that time and it still failed on me. I even tried a different SIM with same results.
I have another question for everyone with the T-Mobile network. When I am at home, I have pretty weak signal. It is usually HSPA or, sometimes, HSPA+. However, when I try to switch to 2G in preferred network types, I cannot get any signal whatsoever. How is it possible that my phone can have 3G but cannot connect to 2G?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Signal Issue
I had the same issue. I have great LTE signal at home. When I get to work it's 3G. The phone transitions from LTE to 3G ok. When I go into the middle of the building I loose the signal completely. When I go back outside the phone never reacquires 3G. I was able to duplicate this several times.
I did a factory reset which didn't work. I called T-Mobile support. They were no help. I went into T-Mobile store and asked if they would swap out the SIM. Bingo.
New SIM card solved my problem.

Verizon HTC One M8 on T-Mobile

I have an account with T-Mobile, I have my parents there with the iPhones 5s, I just popped in my T-Mobile sim card into my Verizon HTC One M8 and I get LTE and everything! everything works fine! I don't know if this is suppose to happen, I'm actually shocked that Verizon didn't carrier lock this phone.
I am leaving T-Mobile little by little but if anyone is wondering if it works with other carriers, well add T-Mobile to the yes list.

This is somewhat related to the Nokia 822 on T-Mobile issue

I've tried different things and when I get LTE I Can't send messages
Have to switch to GSM to be able to send so yes kinda annoying
I have Verizon but was curious about using it with my Tmobile SIM, sucks that this issue is happening

Does Hangouts work if you use phone number with it to use text?
Looking for a workaround.

Just found this video and ran through the comments. Someone addressed it and the person who made the video said they have everything working on T-Mobile including SMS.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJwqFersSoo
The person that posted the video said sending SMS is not working for him either.
Ouch, I stand corrected at this point. When I tested it yesterday, it worked. I surfed, and got messages. HOWEVER, I did not respond to those messages lol. I was recording a new video...so with that being said, yes you are right at this point...it does not work. It works perfectly fine on my other Verizon phones that I use on T-Mobile.

I really hope there's a fix for this. Or I'll have to wait until TMo starts selling this phone.

He just responded. I saw the comment on my Google+
I think once we have root there will be a fix for sending SMS on T-Mobile with LTE. Most likely a gremlin with the APN settings.

LTE band 4 working on Verizon?

Anyone with issues getting band 4? At home I always have it but am stuck on band 13. Any suggestions?
The app LTE discovery will let you know what band your on.
It's good to see someone has it on Verizon. Mine won't connect to the network at all.

Did you take your sim from an active phone on your Verizon account? Have hd voice added on as extra service?
Problem for me is HTC's site says it has band 4 which is xlte for Verizon. It won't recognize band 4.

Ok. On Verizon's site the added service is HD voice. Maybe you know someone with a phone that will be compatible and pop your sim in to get HD voice added on your account.

The Verizon associate popped it into his own phone and tried it, but the phone probably has to be actually added to the account I'm thinking cuz it didn't work.

Well, once your sim goes into a phone that phone will show up on your account. Then you need to go to my devices and then apps and services and add HD voice. You might need to upgrade your sim too.
I don't mind helping out but I'm trying to find out if anyone has been able to get band 4 on their U11. Each thing I've said you negate it like you know the answer. This thread was specifically made for my question.

Sorry it got off topic. I'll let you know when I can actually use it. Apparently 6P had it so I swapped with my mom's phone and was able to add hd to my line. If it works I'll let you know what band I'm getting.

Well that sucks. That means lower speeds, another crippling of a great phone.
Curious as to where you got the answer and if there is any reasoning behind it.

I bet Verizon says it is because the phone was not certified by them and as such they don't guarantee any features to work and blah blah blah when in reality it is probably their computers automatically unchecking a box on your customer record to guarantee the system will never let your device utilize the features

Come on brother, don't leave us in suspense, where did you get the info.
I've downloaded the LTE Discovery app onto my HTC 10 and I'm trying to use it to see if there is Band 4 around my area, before I try out the U11.

Post #99 in the Verizon thread.. He posted a bunch of info on communications with HTC, Verizon, and AT&T.
Really slow lte on mine too..looks like only band 13
Band 13 only here in Virginia.
Band 13 in Syracuse. Went back to my 10 and getting 4 consistently.
Stuck on band 13 here in Columbia, SC too. Band 4 works fine on my old One M8. HTC support has been extremely unhelpful. They keep pushing me off on Verizon. If this isn't sorted out before my return window is up this thing is going back.
"Thanks for the account verification. The HTC u11 is not capable with LTE Advanced https://t.co/JueO1hTCbK. Since this is a non-Verizon device, we can not guarantee that all features will work when comparing to a Verizon device. ^ZY
In order to use LTE Advanced, the device will need a carrier update. The HTC u11 may not be able to get the update since it is a non-Verizon device. Verizon LTE Advanced-capable devices already have the necessary hardware and software. LTE Advanced uses software to combine two or three channels – a combination of 700 MHz, AWS, and PCS spectrum to provide peak speeds. ^ZY"
Guys this is what i got after talking to VZW CS

Same here in Miami. Only Band 13, when my s8+ used Band 4 in the same areas.

Unable to send SMS

I am on Verizon and haven't had any issues in months but I started receiving this error earlier tonight. I can receive a message just fine. I have rebooted twice. Anyone else seeing anything? Stock unrooted with latest OTA. It happens with any SMS app.

We have had a lot of issues on Verizon but have not heard much from enough people, especially from the ones running pure stock. We have been having a lost signal issue where we get a slash through our network bars after a reboot, mostly rooted users after flashing something. I am hoping your issue is just a bad SIM card. But there are known issues with Verizon on this phone, I been waiting for more stock users to report anything. I don't have much advice except I would stay stock if this is the worst of your issues and maybe try getting a new SIM. I had this issue on my HTC 10 and a new SIM fixed it. Good luck buddy.
I registered just so I could say that I too have this same problem. I did the update and now I cant send text messages. I still receive them though.

I've been pure stock since June 9th. Had quite a few little issues to work through to get SMS MMS data and calling to work throughout the first month or so after launch.
May I ask what your Network mode and APN settings are?

I am stock and have had no issues since that first update that fixed MMS. All settings are default . It worked early yesterday and then just stopped for no reason. This is the first time i have seen any errors, even before when there were issues, there were no errors. My network mode is GSM/WCDMA/LTE Auto, APN is vzwinternet with default settings.

Please keep us updated on your experience as we don't have many stock users report here. If any other stock users have had issues or have not had issues we would like to hear from them as well. This Verizon issue has been a mess.

Factory Reset seems to have done the trick. Now to spend the rest of the day setting things back up.
I am all stock as well, and have the unlocked version on Verizon. I have had this phone since it was released with no issues. There was an update install that happened a few days ago and that is when all the problems seem to have happened.
I get that same error screen.

Yes only band 13. No issues but sometimes it can get slow in congested areas. I live outside of Charlotte and work in uptown.
Same here. Only LTE band 13 and middle of Nebraska. I have an hr commute to work through rural Nebraska and stay connected to LTE about 85% of the time according to the Open Signal app. The places I loose service is where my old original HTC One would drop down to 1X service. I have 4G LTE in places where my old phone would only have 3G, but the 4G isn't as strong of a signal as the 3G was. There is still enough to make a phone call though.

Thanks a lot guy's, I was having a great experience with only band 13 on stock I had no complaints. But your input kinda confirms what I have suspected, it's probably best to stay on stock with this phone on Verizon. It is very finnicky with Verizon, Verizon does not play nice with unlocked phones outside of their network unless you are Google or Apple with an agreement with Verizon. I had to send mine in for warranty repair, I hope I get it fixed with Verizon signal working.
I'm running pure stock and have had two major issues with this phone on vsw, 1st was about on October 3rd where after losing service in the plant I work in, service never came back unless I put in an att sim card or factory reset the phone. The factory reset worked then but took 2 days to get everything dialed back in.
Now I have this EXACT issue. I can receive sms, I can receive mms, I can send mms, but I cannot send sms.
are there some settings we can change inside the apn to make this work?
This issue again cropped up after losing service inside the plant and when I tried to go outside to get it back, this happens.
