Not switching back to LTE - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Questions & Answers

I have a Verizon Note 20 Ultra and have been noticing that when I get into crappy service areas my phone will switch to 3g or 1x but then it will not switch back to LTE unless I reboot. Didn't have this problem on my S10+. Anything I can try to fix this?

You can try to download Activity Launcher and search for "hidden"
There's a phone activity you should find.
With it you can manually switch protocols / bands without waiting not rebooting.
I've set it to LTE All to stick permanently.

You can switch to LTE only in settings too. I don't use 5G much because of the battery drain.
Settings>connections>mobile networks>network mode>select the one you want.

[Q] Phone freezing when talking in WCDMA/GSM mode

I have a Samsung Galaxy S 4G from T-Mobile USA.
I don't have this problem when I set my phone to WCDMA Only but when I set my phone to WCDMA/GSM Auto mode, the phone would freeze while I'm talking on the phone. It seems to happen whenever the phone needs to switch from WCDMA to GSM (or vice versa?). It's just my guess though.. When I drive down I-280, my phone does switch between GSM/EDGE and WCDMA quite a few times (bad WCDMA coverage), and I think the freezing happens at points where the phone needs to switch to a different mode.
I use T-Mobile in San Francisco Bay Area, and I really don't like to leave my phone at WCDMA Only mode because the coverage is less than adequate. GSM Only would make data too slow.
Is there a way for me to pinpoint the problem? (any debugging tools?) The phone freezes and nothing happens. If I wait a while, it usually comes back up but until then the call drops and none of the buttons on the phone works. Very frustrating. I was having a conversation on bluetooth driving down the highway and I had to call back 3 times in 20 minutes.
Lastly, I use LauncherPro Plus but didn't make any changes (no rooting or changing ROM).
Thanks!

[Q] why would this happen?

yesterday I was at my friend's house where I would get really crappy reception. I decided that I would turn off the data connection and make the phone use only 2g networks to save on some battery life. when I re-enabled 3g networks, my phone would only get edge service. this happened for the rest of night, and even though I figured that it might be a carrier issue, I decided to do some searching on the internet. I tried doing the *#*#4636#*#* thing and turning on only gsm networks and resetting the radio, but nothing seemed to help. finally I found a thread that talked about being on the wrong radio band (I think it's called), so I did the *#*#4636#*#* thing again and put it on the usa band. this actually fixed my problem and i've been getting 3g ever since.
why would enabling only 2g networks or turning off the data connection put the phone on the wrong band? i've found that it happens whenever I enable only 2g networks in the settings menu. anyone know why?
I can't speak for your case, but I know for T-Mobile in America when you switch from edge (2g) to 3g the phone has to actually turn off the data, then turn it back on with the frequencies of the other connection.

that might explain why it went to a different band in the first place, but why would it get stuck on that band even after 3g was turned back on? I even did a hard reset and turned data off and on during the few hours that I was stuck on edge but it did nothing. could it be a carrier problem? I would imagine that the only fix would be to bring it into the carrier's store or call them to get the phone put back on the correct band

LTE issues

Hey guys I dont see this issue anywhere so maybe i got a dud but basically my phone loves to sit on edge for really no reason. I have tried to restart it, toggle on and off airplane mode, switch between network modes, toggle on and off data, and none of it seesm to work. It seems fine most of the time but if I enter a area with edge and then leave it my phone will take a good 10 minutes to switch back to LTE. If I fiddle with it enough I can sometimes get it to switch back to LTE. Im on T-Mobile and for whatever reason it does NOT want to be on anything other than LTE or Edge. Ive never even seen the 3g or 4g icons. So any ideas?
It could be that the LTE coverage in the area you go to is spotty, which is why your device switches the EDGE. As it gets better reception via the EDGE band.
I remember reading in a review that this was a problem for one reviewer. Maybe it's the network bands used that your Honor dislikes or maybe it's just a software issue. If I were you I'd try with a different SIM card from a different carrier that does not use the same network (some carriers share their network).
I think the area you're in, isn't fully supported by honor 8 modem

Pixel not reconnecting to data in spotty coverage areas

Pixel, running the May 2017 patch, on T-Mobile.
I was on a trip over the weekend in an area where T-Mobile coverage was spotty. I noticed that everytime the phone loses coverage, it does not automatically reconnect to data. I can clearly see that data is available (LTE or HSPA), but there is a tiny "x" next to the signal strength bar. The signal bar can show full LTE, but there is no data. A quick airplane mode toggle fixes the data connection until the next drop out. Now that I am back in the metro area, there is no such problem.
Has anyone seen this behavior? I don't know if the problem is related to the phone or carrier. I have two other Pixel XLs, one with Verizon and the other with AT&T, no issues. That does not, though, prove that it is a carrier issue. I did not have the chance to switch SIMs to troubleshoot.
Has anyone seen this problem? If yes, what was the cause and fix? Thanks.

Not likely. Here is why:
1) I was in an area where there is no partner roaming for T-Mo.
2) Data shows that there was strong T-Mo LTE coverage, but there is no data until I toggle airplane mode.
3) Data roaming was enabled on the phone.

Strange, feel like I had that issue when I had Tmobile years ago and was into root and flashing my phone alot

phone randomly alternating between 5G/LTE

I'm on T-Mobile and I've noticed my phone alternating between 5G and LTE at random intervals. Both 5G and LTE are at 4 bars and I'm stationary. It's not really an issue because I didn't get this phone for 5G and the connection isn't dropping when it switches. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Actually mine has shown 5g constantly since I got it. Even though it's not using 5g. Mine is fully converted to TMobile
Mine is doing the same..... it must depend on signal strength or something. What concerns me about it is that 5g and 5g mwav is suppose to have less issues with walls, so why are the phones not staying on 5g? something is causing the 5g signal to go in and out.... I noticed less of an issue outside than inside which would be normal I guess, but should not be an issue for Tmobile's 5g service.
I live in NYC and don't have this issue with my phone. Could it be a problem with your location/city?
Have you called t-mobile about it yet?
Maybe do a speed test when it switches to see if you get lower speeds on LTE, maybe that would show if it is really actually switching or just an icon issue as both have the same amount of bars.
How are y'all determining that you are actually connected to a 5G carrier ? For AT&T, they have put the 5G icon on the man screen for awhile so I was looking at the Mobile data network setting under SIM card status but have only seen LTE. Having said that, I have done speed test where I am getting 20ms latency and 60Mbps download speeds.
Here is where the old Nokia Field Test Mode would be useful.

Because, up were you have the bars that show how strong your signal is, it actually tells me when I am on 4G, 4G LTE or 5G, and at least one Tmob, do don't need a 5G enabled SIM, it should "Just work" if you have 5G service in your area and you are within range of a 5G equipt tower..... I also checked with apps like Open Signal and others to see what towers I am connecting to, etc.
5G download and upload speeds are crappy though....lol..... Should be broadband speeds and it is no were near that...
