[Q] Phone freezing when talking in WCDMA/GSM mode - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

I have a Samsung Galaxy S 4G from T-Mobile USA.
I don't have this problem when I set my phone to WCDMA Only but when I set my phone to WCDMA/GSM Auto mode, the phone would freeze while I'm talking on the phone. It seems to happen whenever the phone needs to switch from WCDMA to GSM (or vice versa?). It's just my guess though.. When I drive down I-280, my phone does switch between GSM/EDGE and WCDMA quite a few times (bad WCDMA coverage), and I think the freezing happens at points where the phone needs to switch to a different mode.
I use T-Mobile in San Francisco Bay Area, and I really don't like to leave my phone at WCDMA Only mode because the coverage is less than adequate. GSM Only would make data too slow.
Is there a way for me to pinpoint the problem? (any debugging tools?) The phone freezes and nothing happens. If I wait a while, it usually comes back up but until then the call drops and none of the buttons on the phone works. Very frustrating. I was having a conversation on bluetooth driving down the highway and I had to call back 3 times in 20 minutes.
Lastly, I use LauncherPro Plus but didn't make any changes (no rooting or changing ROM).
Thanks!

GSM/EDGE vs 3G Band Settings Call Drops Experience

I want to know why this happens. I already have a solution but I am more interested in the specifics of what is causing this. Keep in mind that this does not happen everywhere, but only at my home/vicinity (general square area/radius of about 1 mile)
This is the problem:
When my phone is set to AUTO in terms of band settings for data/voice, I experience a massive amount of dropped calls. I can barely hold a conversation because my call will drop every 2-7 minutes and it is very embarrassing when trying to conduct business.
Solution:
The solution I have found is to manually set the phone to force either GSM/EDGE or 3G, but not both. When I do this, my problem is solved 100%
SPECS:
Network: AT&T
Phones Tested: AT&T Tilt and AT&T Treo 750
I have this problem in areas where they haven't completed the upgrade to 3G yet. I suspect it drops because the compatability between 3G and Edge is none, the phone has to switch to different bandwidths that cause a quick but temporary loss of service, effectively dropping your calls.
I have seen an app that forces data connections to stay off, using this app in areas where it swtches between services might improve your issue.

[Q] why would this happen?

yesterday I was at my friend's house where I would get really crappy reception. I decided that I would turn off the data connection and make the phone use only 2g networks to save on some battery life. when I re-enabled 3g networks, my phone would only get edge service. this happened for the rest of night, and even though I figured that it might be a carrier issue, I decided to do some searching on the internet. I tried doing the *#*#4636#*#* thing and turning on only gsm networks and resetting the radio, but nothing seemed to help. finally I found a thread that talked about being on the wrong radio band (I think it's called), so I did the *#*#4636#*#* thing again and put it on the usa band. this actually fixed my problem and i've been getting 3g ever since.
why would enabling only 2g networks or turning off the data connection put the phone on the wrong band? i've found that it happens whenever I enable only 2g networks in the settings menu. anyone know why?
I can't speak for your case, but I know for T-Mobile in America when you switch from edge (2g) to 3g the phone has to actually turn off the data, then turn it back on with the frequencies of the other connection.

that might explain why it went to a different band in the first place, but why would it get stuck on that band even after 3g was turned back on? I even did a hard reset and turned data off and on during the few hours that I was stuck on edge but it did nothing. could it be a carrier problem? I would imagine that the only fix would be to bring it into the carrier's store or call them to get the phone put back on the correct band

[Q] Sprint - can't connect to 3G? LTE only.

I have the opposite of the LTE dropping problem I see most people have. I can't get 3G, but my LTE works fine (well, once it spazzed out after a PRL update and would only do 0.5mbs on LTE). At work, where I know I can't get LTE, but could get 3G with my Note 2 (and we even have a repeater), I can't get data. If I go to the window where I can barely get LTE and reset my antenna, it'll get LTE, and when I walk away it'll flash 3G for a second and go out. I still get several bars and can talk and text fine. Everyone else with 3G is fine. After thinking about it I realized that in the month I've had the phone I've NEVER been able to connect to 3G in places where I used to be able to. It's LTE or nothing. I'd be more than happy with 3G if the alternative is to read a book. Could this be a SIM card issue? Hardware? Firmware? It's annoying the hell out of me, I work 10 hour shifts at night, I need my data.
Just a follow up, I downloaded a network signal info app and it shows me having a solid 40% signal. Net type: will alternate between EHRPD, EVDO A, 1xRTT, and Unknown. Data state: will alternate between "Setting up data connection" and "no activity". It seems like it's looking for a connection but won't connect. I know the signal is there. The only time I can get the 3G logo to light up is right after going out of LTE range, it'll light up 3G for a few seconds and then go out. My coworkers with Sprint have confirmed the new repeaters we have are working, and I've confirmed it won't hook up to 3G at home like my old phone.

LTE issues

Hey guys I dont see this issue anywhere so maybe i got a dud but basically my phone loves to sit on edge for really no reason. I have tried to restart it, toggle on and off airplane mode, switch between network modes, toggle on and off data, and none of it seesm to work. It seems fine most of the time but if I enter a area with edge and then leave it my phone will take a good 10 minutes to switch back to LTE. If I fiddle with it enough I can sometimes get it to switch back to LTE. Im on T-Mobile and for whatever reason it does NOT want to be on anything other than LTE or Edge. Ive never even seen the 3g or 4g icons. So any ideas?
It could be that the LTE coverage in the area you go to is spotty, which is why your device switches the EDGE. As it gets better reception via the EDGE band.
I remember reading in a review that this was a problem for one reviewer. Maybe it's the network bands used that your Honor dislikes or maybe it's just a software issue. If I were you I'd try with a different SIM card from a different carrier that does not use the same network (some carriers share their network).
I think the area you're in, isn't fully supported by honor 8 modem

Losing network after each call with Verizon Note 4 on T-Mobile network PLEASE HELP

Hello all, first post here looking for some help.
Note 4 android version 5.0.1 (won't allow me to update further)
I have a Verizon Note 4 phone I am using on T-Mobile network. I have been using the phone this way for over 30 days. I get 3-4 bars at any given time and the phone pretty much stays in the same area at all times (give or take 100feet). I get download speeds of 20-35mbs off of a Verizon tower so no problems with signal.
I live in a very rural area in Texas with only Verizon towers around.
My internet works great on the phone and USB tethered to my computer using FoxFi key app (original Verizon tethering won't work due to the T-Mobile sim).
The problem I have is when I make a phone call. As soon as I make a phone call the 4G LTE symbol (with 3-4 bars of signal) on the phone goes from white to grey 1x as soon as it starts to dial and stays that way while I'm on the phone talking. As soon as I hang up the 1x goes away and the signal symbol changes, sometimes its H+, sometimes its 3G both of which are always grey and won't allow me to use the phone for calls or internet. Rarely it will go back to the 4G LTE signal. Even when it shows the H+ and 3G greyed out it still shows at least 3 bars of signal.
I have found a work around that works SOMETIMES. I go into settings > more networks > mobile networks > network mode > select LTE/ CDMA or LTE / GSM / UMTS until I get the 4G LTE signal back then switch back to the GLOBAL network so I can use internet and make phone calls again. This doesn't always work, sometimes I have to restart the phone and hope it finds network again other times I have to just wait for it to find network again.
Anyone have a permanent fix?
