Ref: Kindle hd 8 8th feb fire os 6.3.1.5 not reading usb but has usb functionality - 7" Kindle Fire HD Accessories

Hi,
How are you?
My dad has Alzheimer's and I bought him a Kindle fire HD 8 8th gen 2018. The yellow sticker on his kindle tells him o touch the power button. Dad's kindle is not rooted. Although he has Google Play and Whatsapp - which I put on for him,
He has seen my Kindle (my Kindle fire 7 2017) and sees I watch films from any micro USB - ExFAT, FAT32. He is jealous and wants to watch films too.
When I plug in the otg cable on the Kindle fire HD 8 8th gen 2018, it does not respond and shows otg in the left- hand corner but there are no files. I have attached pictures. I have tested the Kindle fire HD 8 8th gen 2018 and it does have USB functionality.
I am using this cable Rii F1 Micro USB Host OTG Adapter Cable Micro USB to USB For Smart TV Compatible with Rii Keyboards Logitech Keyboards and Nintendo Switch SNES NES Classic.
I use this cable on my Kindle fire 7 2017 and can connect usb to it to watch films etc. I am trying to replicate the same thing on the Kindle 8.
The kindle 8 is my dad’s and I am helping him. He is coming this Thursday to collect it.
Please can you help me so dad can watch films like me. I do not want to root the Kindle as I have put apps on there and set it all up for him. Also I am not technical to remove back panels etc. I can follow illustrated step by step instructions but dismantling and soldering is a no.
I would give Dad my kindle but the screen is too small for him.
Thanks,
Mandii
I can posts photos of what I see; if someone can tell me how to do it here.

Phone as media/gaming hub

I want to purchase a cheap phone for use as a media/gaming hub,I have my eyes set on a Droid x2 since im selling my atrix 2 and my droid 3 doesnt have sound over hdmi...
My plan is toload it with videos and emulators and roms and use my xbox controller to play games on my hd screen.
would this set up work? a phone that has an hdmi cord, usb to otg and a power cord plugged in at the same time?
I was just going to use the usb otg cord and a usb splitter, maybe a powered one.
I want to make sure before I buy the splitter and not waste any money.Im guessing if it works on a droid 3 or atrix 2 it should work on a droid x2,could be wrong.
Thanks.

Connecting a Fire HD 8 to a TV via HDMI...

What is the correct adapter to connect a Fire HD 8 tablet to a TV via HDMI? I have been unable to find a connector that fits the port on the device. (And, mirroring is, apparently, only available for streaming Amazon videos and can’t be used with other “app”s.)
Can someone, please, tell me what the port/jack for the Fire HD 8 is called, and let me know if there is an adapter that will fit that that's sold on Amazon?
Based on what I've read in the reviews of the recent kindle fires, ever since they removed the physical HDMI port, they also locked down MHL or similar devices.
IIRC even people on the Kindle Fire 7 that rooted and switched over to cyanogenmod aren't able to get HDMI out from the device via mhl etc., so it seems to be a hardware lock or incompatibility.
Since Fire Stick may be limiting as well (I don't actually know) your second best option is to get a chromecast and install google apps on your Fire HD 8 (see other posts in this forum) and cast using that (screenshare so you aren't restricted to specific apps)
I had found some casting apps and got one of them to work, but it only works on some pages. Does the Chrome thing allow you to cast from different apps./mirror all activity from the tablet?
(It's really stupid that they made it so that you can't connect the new tablet to a TV! :-\ And the Amazon people don't even seem to know that as they recommend incompatible products.--Infuriating! :-\)
I got an 8 on the monthly installment plan for the wife but she would rather use her phone and a magnifying glass? frankly it seems I wasted my money for many reasons

Can you try to use Google Chromecast.
This thread is 3 years old, pretty sure it's dead...

You can use TeamViewer (mirror through PC) or Chromecast instead.

Attached a run-of-the-mill OTG cable to my 8th gen HD 8 (unlocked, rooted but otherwise stock FireOS); no issue recognizing and reading files using FX File Manager off an equally benign flash drive. FireOS also saw the drive.
You can not charge and OTG simultaneously on these low end gizmos. Likely a kernel limitation.

A71 5G no hdmi only with MHL adaptor

AH man what disappointment tried my USB C hub with HDMI and nothing quick google search and you need a MHL adaptor what a step back
do they even make USB C MHL adaptor adapters
takes me back to my note 3 - 4 days those adapter can't even keep phone charging while consuming power as far as I remember it was and issue back then they only charge in "USB charging" mode speed 500 ma or less
have they advance with USB C ??

I do see MHL to HDMI cables on Amazon. But I am not sure if any of them work. I am personally looking for one so I can use it in the car so my kids can watch what I mirror off my A71 5g.
If anyone comes across a cable that works, please let me know. TIA

You shouldn't be too surprised if you're looking for old technology and get flashbacks of your old devices, what do you expect? I remember cables was a thing on my S3..
Its 2020, not 2012, who uses wires when we can easily go wireless? Spend that money you're wanting to buy wires with on a cheap Chromecast if your TV doesn't already have it built in. You can get a used one for like under $10, $5 probably.. I can sell you my 1st gen CC, for $5 if you want..
Then look for the "cast" feature in settings and there you go. That let's you cast a video on your TV screen while you can be doing something totally different on your phone, like browsing the web or something. Now if you want to mirror your phone screen so the exact image appears on the TV, thats possible too..
This may not help the individual question, however, it may provide info for someone.
I have casted my Note 8 using a Chrome Cast and Roku. The Roku Ultra worked much better as there was no lag.
I also cast movies from my PC Windows 10 to my Smart TV via Web/Internet and that works great. Problem with Roku is that Roku does not support AVI format movies. So, I can play AVI movies from my Note 8 or PC to the TV.
