No led indicator while plugged in - Sony Xperia XZ Questions & Answers

‪My xperia phone battery died (I left it charging overnight but woke up to it dead). The red LED at the top-left is not showing up (it blinked for 5 mins then it has never come back on) . ‬
‪I’ve had it on the charger for 5 hours and nothing... holding the power button doesn't do anything, same for VOL UP + POWER, vol down + power, etc etc.‬
‪*‬
‪I tried a few different kinds of USB C cables (plus 1 sony cable and a sony charger) with a few other chargers (anker, ipad, motorola). Nothing.‬
‪*‬
‪While plugged in, the phone has a slight warmth to it as if its actually charging, but no sign of life. I’ve replaced the battery with a new one and it didnt fix the problem. It's also not detected by my PC.‬
‪*‬
‪To add, before the phone died it was taking around 10secs to detect the usb c cable and 9-12hours to charge fully from single digits. I got the battery changed, it still did what I described above and ultimately died a couple weeks later.‬
‪Any ideas whats the problem?‬

Your type c connector might be broken or the whole assembly that type c is connected to. Cuz its unnatural for xz to charge that slow. Mine is fully charged in 1,5 h so check the type c connector related things.

Good luck!
I had problems with type c connectors breaking in my lg g6 so changing the connector should fix the problem, report when youve done your testing.

dead SP5m, not charging either

help people....
dropped my SP5m two weeks back and ever since it is not powering ON
ne idea what I could do to check what is wrong?
tried switching on the phone minus the battery, but it does not switch on (correct me if this normal)
I even tried get the voltage checked of the battery, but it also shows zero, maybe there is no left in it.
Checking voltage on the phone four pins in the back also shows no signs of any volatage, even when charger adaptor is connected. (I use Moto razor charger)
any help/idea is welcome....

Have you tried powering up with USB plugged to a PC? Also, try powering up in BootLoader, sort of to make sure the motherboard is responding. Can you get a loaner battery from a friend? Your battery might have just broken internally(seen that happen on other devices).
I don't think it would be a hardware failure though. Trust me, If you only saw what I did to my SDAII, literally squezzed it between the 5th door and frame of my Van. Broke screen lens and LCD, warped housing, broke D-Pad(joystick) and, i pulled out battery, placed battery back, turned on phone, and re-dialed using bluetooth and it was working fine
For one thing, don't use any other charger except the one for the SP5m!! There are several posts in this forum that refer to problems using other chargers. If the battery is more than 50% charged, then your charger might work. Otherwise there isn't enough current output in the Motorola charger to kick-start a dead battery. So test with an OEM charger!!

Really? My experience is that Motorola chargers will charge HTC devices but that HTC chargers will not charge Motorola devices so I always assumed the Motorola devices drew more power.
Motorola charger have approx. 0,5A when HTC chargers got 1A.

[Q] Photon Q got hot now won't power on

Hi everyone,
My first post as I haven't been able to find an answer. My Photon Q was probably about 30% charge when I last checked with it on. An hour or 2 later it was a little warm and was off. So I went to charge it using the car charger with 500mah charge rate. I came back about an hour later and the phone was really hot and no charging screen so I unplugged it. The green led light is lit when the phone is plugged in.
I tried holding the power button and volume down button, but it won't boot. If I have the usb charging cable plugged in from a PC or charger adapter when pressing those buttons, the green light will flicker off for a fraction of a second.
I then proceeded to dismantling the phone as I suspect a battery issue and the one in this phone is stupidly non-removable. After taking the back cover off, I tested the battery posts and received 0 volts. I still don't know if the battery caused the drain or if there's a short in the phone. I then took off the inside cover that holds the battery in. A few T5 screws later and the battery was removed. I connected the battery to some AA batteries in series to see if I could get a charge. A few hours later I got it up to 3 volts which held for several hours. So I connected it to a few more AA batteries in series to try and raise the voltage. I got it up to 3.67 volts and the battery is listed at 3.7 volts.
A day later and the voltage is still at 3.67 volts so I put the battery in the phone. I went to try and power it on, but nothing. I then connected it to a usb cord and received the slow flashing red led light a couple times before switching to green. The battery started getting warm again connected to the usb charger. After 20 minutes it was approaching hot so I unplugged the USB. The battery read 3.54 volts. 30 minutes later, 0 volts again.
Does anyone know what the actual voltage range is for this phone, as my old Samsung M320 is also 3.7 volts, but when testing the battery I get 4.10 volts? I heard it's pretty specific on minimum voltage. Any ideas for a temporary battery or way to boot the phone before spending $50 on a replacement battery and then find out there's a short in the phone. Is there another key combination to boot the phone, I'm trying to boot it to at least get my pictures and other data off it.
Thanks a lot in advance
Matt
Not the battery, seems to be an electrical short but where
I bought a new battery for the phone which had a 0 volt charge when I received it. I tried putting it in the phone as is to use the phone charger to charge it, but got nothing. So I charged it using 2, then 3 and then 4 AA batteries in series to get it up to 3.7 volts. I then put the battery in the phone and noticed the 2 large chips and the chip centered above them located by the camera get a little hot. I tried with the charger connected and not connected, but same thing. Power button doesn't turn the phone on. Just the green led lit when the USB power cable is attached. So now it seems there must be a short in the phone. Anyone know where I can look to check for a short, blown resistor or something in this phone? Or at least where the rom chip is located so maybe I can turn it into a usb drive to get my data at the least.
Anyone? I still haven't been able to find a solution. I don't see pins touching, but if some pins are touching in the usb port, would that cause the heat issues when I put a battery in that I charged externally? I do get the green led light when I plug the phone in to charge so figure that means the usb is ok?

did you try a other charger ? do you have oryginal photon charger ? for me its not a reason of battery
regards
(in situation like that charging with normal usb cable when you plug phone to pc dont charging battery, you need motorola usb service cable to make it work)

Yep used the motorola cable that came with the phone (plugged in the wall and just the cable in multiple computers, another motorola house charger (the same as the one that came with the phone), a motorola car charger, and a samsung house charger.
When you say motorola usb service cable, I assume you're not talking about the motorola cable that comes with the phone? What usb service cable are you referring to?

A510 won't charge

Since last night my a510 won't charge at all. There was a thunderstorm and a power cut and the charger was connected to the socket (a multi socket with several other items including a phone charger) but not to the tablet. When I plug it in now there's no indication that it is charging and the battery keeps going down. I tried with the phone charger also and a USB cable on the PC. While I know at best this would charge the tablet in 24 hours or so there was again not sign of charging at all.
Is it still most likely to be the Acer charger that's at fault or is there something else I could try?

edit: turns out it does trickle charge with a normal USB charger even if the charge light doesn't come on. Seems to be really hard to find a replacement for these though.

12V, 1.5 Ampere, I believe just about any electronics outlet should have something in stock. Original would be better, true. Get a surge-protected multisocket if your area is prone to bad weather.

The problem is the MicroUSB port on the tablet has an extra connector so I don't think it will be possible to use a normal microUSB cable with a 12V adapter.

I tried with another adaptor which has the right shape and 12V output and is supposed to be compatible but not joy. It might be the tablet itself but it's weird if it just stopped working overnight.

xperia XZ charging problem

Hi, I am a novice in phone repairs though I have successfuly replaced the screen and charging ports on a samsung s6 and note 4.
I am requiring some expert advice on this problem, I was given an XZ from my friend with a cracked screen and charging problem, the charging port became temperamental and failing (at least I think it was that) and eventually wouldn't charge at all. The charging port was handled a bit harshly toward the end, for example the charging cable lifted up and down to try to get a charging response.
Anyway I ordered a screen/digitizer and charging port flex for it, and fitted them, following a guide. Before this, the phone had around 2% charge. After the repair, I switched it back on and conncted the charger, the screen was fine, however there was no response from the charger. The phone then ran flat and eventually ran flat enough to not be able to show the "low charge" symbol when the phone is off. Then after plugging and unplugging the cable (via USB in the pc) it would charge for what seemed a second then stop, the red charging notification light was lighting up. The same happened with a wall charger. I then stripped it back down and back together again. This time there was no response if I remember right, then I connected it to the wall charger and left it for 3 hours or so. I went back to it and it had charged up to 15%.
Now i'm at the point where the phone is working, it's on 90% now, but it charges very slowly, around 60-350 mA per hour on Ampere app. So a full charge is around 12+ hours. This is in the wall socket with a fast charger. Additionally, it takes 10 seconds for the phone to recognise the charger after is is plugged in and that is consistent each time I plug it in. The phone now isn't recognised by my PC via USB, and also won't charge that way also, it just doesn't do anything if I plug it in there. Other than that, the phone works and it holds its charge well.
Any ideas? Thank you.

pick up an original sony charging cable - no idea why it makes such a difference, but.........
Hi, thanks for the reply, I bought a sony charger but it's still the same, drawing about 50-300 milliamps from wall charger, not recognised by PC and takes 10 secs exactly for the phone to recognise it's being charged. It's just odd how it stopped charging before the "fix", now the new flex lets it charge slowly. Can a battery problem cause this? It still holds its charge well. Maybe this problem is recognisable by some phone repair experts around here? any ideas?
Thanks
Noticed the phone only draws charge from a 3amp charger, anything less isn't recognized. And the power drawn from a 3amp can be 30-1000ma but averages around 300 ma. Can anybody point me to a hardware forum maybe? I can't find any, i guess it need taking to a phone expert but it's gonna end up costing more than its worth with the stuff i have done already.
Aukey Quickcharge 3.0 is working fine. It is cheap too.
I have just purchased a aukey charger, but my XZ seems to be taking longer to charge than the UH20 charger that came with my XZ. Any suggestions guys?

Buy a UCH20
Sent from my F5321 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Have you tried cleaning/replacing the charging port itself? As i see, you replaced only the flex cable.
There's probably extremely weak contact somewhere in the charging hardware i think, because you need 3.0 A charger to get any kind of charging response. Weaker current probably gets lost at that 'weak contact'.
Buying new chargers won't fix that if you ask me
I have exactly same problem with you
I am about to buy a new charger, yet I saw your post
At first I thought it was the cable. Then my cable work normal with other phone. So does my charger, it connect perfectly with other phone (xperia xz premium and xiaomi mi5)
It seems that our phoneis the only one who can'y charge normally.
I am quite depressed, also looking for solution. Mind if you share if you have succedeed? Thanks before

Try plug in and plug out. My phone sometimes charge a normaxl. But need a lot of effort
Solved
Use the the detect usb in the notification keys before connecting the charger,, this will solve the fast recharging issues
Did you solved problem? I have same issue. Changed battery, usb-flex, no luck
Hi,
I have bought an used XZ.
The owner sold me this phone because he need new battery. I have replaced the old one after a week of test. The old battery works only for 6/10h and drain totally during night even if the phone is turned off. The new one have the same problem. I try to solve with an other battery, and nothing same problem. 12h of standby, after is totally drained. The strange thing is that I have the same battery life even when the phone is turned off, but not only this. If the phone is in 0% he charge without problem. If we have any % of battery I need to connect and disconnect the charger from a wall plug many and many times before he start charging. Phone give me the charge icon for a second and after nothing until I disconnect the charger from a wall plug(I have tested different charger and cable). During my investigation I have found that this phone results every time a little bit hot even if turned off. I have try to disconnect all is possibile, but the heat is from CPU! Now I know that this is the cause of fast discharging in all conditions.
Now I need to know if anyone with a "normal" unit feel the phone heat while turned off and while is on wich temperature have. Mine is every time on 34/35° in standby. Let me know,
thanks
i have same problem . sony xperia xz and sony corp is very very Rubbish
Hi Guys,
I found a way to charge my Xperia XZ with the same loop problem.
Try to push upper volume pad together with power button and plug in the charging cable.
Hold the buttons for 3-5 minutes - you will feel vibrating signals like 3 short and 1 long.
so hold it and then simply leave it for a several minutes and it should start to accept the charge.
Alex Kutikhin
Yes - I had this problem...fixed it by holding in POWER UP and OFF button for 120 seconds.
Do not let go...you will feel vibration (1 short, 3 short). Keep holding for 120 seconds.
Device should now be powered down. Plug in charger cable and leave device off until 100% charged.
Still no fix for the original post’s problem? Having the exact issue with my xzs right now.

Thanks for the hint...
Old Thread, I know, but I encountered this issue today on an Sony X compact - F5321. Fixed it and want to report back for the next guy.
Same symptoms, noticed first a slow charge, phone was drawing low current and only responding to cable after 10 seconds of plugging in. I than checked for data connection, couldn’t get any. Opened it changed the USB port - BINGO - that fixed the issue, everything working nice.
TLTR: no Solution in Software, it’s a faulty USB-port. change it.
Have a nice day.

Xperia XZ won't detect charger

Hi All,
It is been two days since My Xperia XZ won't charging when I use sony charger or any charger using any cable (USB type-C), but it doesn't have any problem connecting to any PC (charging or transfering files).
I use charger and cable from my Xperia XZ box and its been a year since I use my phone.
What can I do to fix this problem? Any suggestions?
Thankyou
Not sure if you resovled....try holding UP VOLUME and OFF button for 120 seconds (do not let go - ignore vibrations).
Device will then be in powered off state...connect charger and leave off.
It should show RED Charge LED.
Let charge to 100% then power on device.
same problem
i have the same problem and i dont know what to do, the only way i charge the phone is by useing a normal 5v 1.67A charger and put the usb-c cable with it , but it takes 2h or more to fully charge.

Hi, i am also experiencing the same problem. My XZP is rooted and i noticed that it is not charging normally lately, after the root i had no problem.
I exclude that it is the plug of the Sony, because after the reset (volume up+OFF for 12 sec) it works for a while.
It must be something related to Sony's intelligent charge.
It's really annoying, does someone have some clue on how to solve it?
EDIT: it is ptobably a hardware problem, either the plug or the board connector. I will try to open mine and fix it.
