Amazon delivered the phone yesterday and so far, I'm impressed. It's been a while since I've owned a Motorola device. I've been burned too many times by them in the past with lack of updates and said I would never buy another one. I have 30 days to decide if I'm going to keep this one. Unfortunately, I'm a photo guy. And so far, the cameras on this device are REALLY underwhelming. Soft focus, lack of detail, especially in low light. The selfie camera kind of blows. I'll spend some more time with it, but the cameras could be a deal breaker. We shall see.
Hopefully we will see Gcam for this one

Is there any chance you could post some sample shots? Part of me wants to try this phone out but camera is really important. Like others have said, I'm hoping gcam will be available for it.

I boxed it up and sent it back today. The back cameras are mediocre but the selfie camera was pretty terrible. For some reason when using the selfie camera my entire skin tone would appear an orangy/yellow. It was crazy. It happened pretty often. I watched a few youtube reviews of the Edge and one of them noted the exact same phenomena. Based on Motorola's reputation for updates, I decided to send it back. I have a $250 Xiaomi Note 9S that takes way better pictures than this thing.
I think it takes more then a day or to, still working though some issues.
Been back and forth with TMO and Motorola engineers on 5G speeds running a lot slower then OnePlus 8
Took some random pictures today.

THose trees seem a bit out of focus. I'm getting similar results but I usually take 3-4 pictures at a time anyway and can usually get a clean shot that way. Shame that the screen sharpens the image more than the sensor.

That is an issue with both the Edge and Edge +. You would think a software update could fix that but I don't have a lot of confidence in Motorola doing that.
Will be fixing these problems, when there's a recovery for it(twrp?) It's already in bootloader state. Problem is, that I decide to root, 6 months into the warranty, just to make sure it's still working correctly. This thing seriously needs viper4android. It could use a true gesture replacement, like FNG, Xposed Edge, something. Moto actions has some useful stuff in the rom, but some things don't go far enough, in settings. As far as the cam goes, maybe they can tune that. The hardware's there, just needs to be "uncommercialized".

Thanks for posting. Have you tried to see if any Gcam works?
Just downloaded a Gcam seems to be working will take some pictures and post over the weekend!
Coming form a Pixel 3 which has the all time favorite camera, I have very high expectations for Motorola Edge. If we can get Gcam on it, I will root in an instant.

What APK are you using for Gcam?
I did some pics today with Gcam and mixed results on the screen it looks good but on computer mhhhh
Missing detail and the edges seem blurry not sharp

I used the one for Edge +
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/changelog385/
Try burial's 7.3 for the Edge plus. For whatever reason Moto has unnaturally sharpened the image on the screen before you take the photo, at least with the Edge plus. Them when you see it somewhere else it can be soft, if not blurry.

Having had my One X for about 2 years, I have gone through almost every rom that was ever relased for this wonderful phone. Sadly Monday, my phone's life came to a tragic end. Although having an Otterbox commuter case on it, and only dropping about 2 feet, my phone was nearly destroyed. The screen is shattered which wasn't a problem at first because the screen still worked, yet throughout the day I kept getting SIM card errors and the camera stopped working. The case didn't protect my phone at all. I'm going to make it a music device for my car. This was my first phone that I modded with and without this community I wouldn't be working on my new LG Optimus G Pro. I will miss my One X and this community. Thanks guys for all the mods/roms/recovery's that you guys developed!
That's too bad :'(

Shocked that happened with an ottorbox commuter on it, I have one on mine and have dropped it countless times with no marks.

Maybe it fell on a corner or something?
So just received a new update today for Google Camera. A few new UI tweaks, nothing amazing.
However when I went to take a photo, I noticed a huge amount of Grain in my photo! And also the viewfinder.
Just thought I would ask if anyone else has noticed a quality drop.
Info about my N5:
-Not been dropped
-Running stick no root, I am waiting for L first
looks fine for a very low light shot.

Really? 0_o look at the microwave, it is pretty dang grainy. Look at this photo, took thus before the update, no grain....
the lighting is different, and the 2nd photo is focused better.
---------- Post added at 01:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:33 PM ----------
the first image is captured in very low light, of course the second photo which has much better light is going to be less grainy. if you captured a photo in direct sunlight, of course itll look much better than any photo you ever take in very low lighting. plus it looks like your lens is smudged in the first photo.
why is the 2nd "photo" a screenshot?

Oh right. I thought you were trying to compare before before and after update.
Why don't you do that?
Take a photo. Uninstall the update and take another? Same subject, same conditions
instead of posting an extremely low lit photo, post a photo with plenty of light. that way, if its "grainy" you will be able to see. its normal for very low lit photos to appear grainy.

Hello Mates,
I noticed that Samsung changed the behaviour of the notification LED in coop with the original FlipCase.
The LED is turned off (and even 3rd party LED manager) are not able to drive it, when cover is closed.
So no I have to open the cover to check for Notifications...
As I made a custom whole in the cover over the LED I would love to revert this behaviour.
Any Ideas, proposals?
Why do you people always upgrade to the latest Android with Samsung phones without waiting? Samsung stops giving ****s about their phones immediately they release them. Was 5.1 a forced update? If it is, I need to start digging for a way to stop my lovely 4.4.4 kit kat Edge from upgrading. Works fine as is. I have heard nothing but complaints about the Rom updates.
This Flip Case deal just seems ridiculous and even more of a reason to disable any form of update I would get in the future
Hmm NVM. It appears even on 4.4.4 my LED notification all of a sudden quit lighting up with Flip Case. This is bizzarre. Does Samsung always work to screw over its customers like this?
---------- Post added at 01:25 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:55 AM ----------
Edit: No it works. I just need to widen the hole on my flip case so I can see the LED. looks like its a 5.1 issue for you then

Haven't done it. Yet but I don't suppose it would be rocket science lol. What I do for now is push the flip cover to the left to have the stock oval slit slide over the LED light area.
Today while I was checking Facebook, my G Flex suddenly went off. Don't worry because that happened to me about 4 times a week. But this time, it was different, the phone didn't turn on again, not even connecting it to the power outlet. Apart from that, it was on its third battery purchased, as many will know, it always failed.
Now I kept thinking about the beautiful and horrible moments that this phone brought me. So many headaches from the stagnant LG system in Lollipop and with that disgusting layer of customization, added to the impossibility of unlocking the bootloader and the problem of super overheating of the Snapdragon 810 that even with retouched interactive governors could avoid it.
But at the same time great things like 24-bit audio support (It was wonderful to hear music on it.), a good rear camera with optical stabilization, the fact that this phone could be said to be "competitive" in terms of power today (obviously not taking into account overheating) and, most importantly, the CURVE SCREEN.
I'll miss this phone, probably buy a Galaxy S8, or a Moto Z2 Force, but something is sure.
I WILL NEVER BUY AGAIN AN LG IN MY LIFE.
My phone died too. It has the same symptoms. What I would like to buy is either OnePlus 5 or LG G6, but more towards the 1+.

I may be in the majority when I say this, but I miss the old designs of phones. The plastic design of the LG Flex 2 and LG G4 was perfectly fine by me. Now they make the phones out of delicate aluminum that is so slippery. The plastic phones can take more drops and hit than the aluminum ones can today.
I have mine rooted on the most recent image. How did you manage the overheating issue ? I'll admit the thing still has sentimental value to me lol.
My Flex2 died too. It was pretty good phone but what mostly I liked about it was, of course, the curve! That was so ergonomic, very comfortable to use and also to have in your pocket. That enabled 5.5" screen to manage with no hassle.
On the other hand the screen was pixelated (especially on low brightness), camera had no manual settings (except like on/off for HDR or flash, lol). SOT was barely acceptable, sometimes not even 4 ours. 2/16 GB were also very very limiting, not enough internal memory for apps, always forcing you to chose them carefully. Oh, I almost forgot - "self healing" battery cover. All it did for me was collected micro scratches from nowhere. Very unpleasant view to the careful phone owner.
What's next? Maybe G6, who knows.
For me LG share the blame with Qualcomm for this phone. The first version of the SD810 always overheated and was probably at fault for many of the hardware issues that users have suffered over the years. LG should have provided 3GB RAM on all versions to fully exploit the high end SoC. LG's software support for a flagship was also poor.
On the other hand, it was a beautiful piece of hardware. I really liked the screen and the curve felt excellent in the hand. The red back on some versions was much nicer than the grey of the H950.
So like others, I'm torn.
Second time this same problem happened to me also . I thought it was a rare occurrence; but today, my 2nd G Flex 2 died, just 5 months after my other one. Symptoms are the same as yours. Heat gunning the chips under the shields on the motherboard did nothing. Not sure if to get an LG phone next anymore...
My G Flex 2 also died and LG Support says they dont have the needed replacement parts and instead offered me to get an LG Q6 as replacement which feels like being ripped off.
Disassemble the phone and place the motherboard onto a piece of aluminum foil and bake it at 300°f for 8 minutes. Then letting it stand in the oven with the door open for a half hour. This generation of LG phones used bad solder compounds. Remelting them fixes them back to working order. Reassemble and enjoy.

What's the worst that could happen with this method? I'm nearly convinced to try this, although I still want to get the data off the EMMC chip.
My Flex 2 is still alive and well, about a year after I bought it. It heats up, slows down, is laggy, too bright in the dark and dim outside. Battery, seems to have improved over time, however, occasionally something will drain it in no time. Can't quite figure out what it is. Sometimes I get random restarts and weird behavior, but not on a daily basis. Perhaps once every week or two. Because it's too bright in the dark I use a dimming app, when dimmed you can noticably see that large areas of the screen (roughly half) have a sort of dark stain. This has been there since day 1. On MM stock.

I'm on lollipop, and I notice the same lag as you. I think it has to do with how the Kernal and driver's use the available cores. This might have 8 of them, but they are vastly different. Some are fast, some, not so much. There are init d scripts that can help. I'm on the 3gb variant, and that helps as well. Hopefully we can find a bootloader bypass or an unlock, it would make this phone so much better. It's almost a mid ranged current phone. It's aged well. Let's hope something soon happens.

I just got a V20 used, and I miss my Flex2 already. The curve was brilliant, and I feel like I'm carrying a brick around with a straight phone
LG, will you PLEASE setup a bootloader unlock for this? I don't see why they don't, considering there's no official support for this phone, and even the carries don't care at this point.

Hey guys. I understand that after rooting those are lost.
I've also read that Video Enhancement is lost after unlocking regardless if the keys were backed up or not.
So,- can you tell me how important exactly is this Video Enhancement day to day basis to you? If it tampers with contrast/colors, wouldn't it result in video footage looking unnatural compared to the same footage viewed from a pc? So having it gone would result in more natural viewing experience anyway?
Or, if it does make a difference - are there any natural mods/aps/modules that replicate this effect?
Lastly, is there anything else of importance lost after rooting?
Thanks.
As of Xperia XZP (or XZS, can't remember), all photos you take with the stock camera will show up as green. AFAIK, the ability to mirror your screen is also lost upon losing DRM keys.
These features are usually restored with the use of a DRM fix.

Actually, the color provided in the photos and movies you watch in the phone will loose some sharpness but it feels the same like the other phones. Regarding the color and appearance in PC or other devices, it doesn't affect, it affects the color viewing engine within the phone.
The green photo thing was in XZs and only when it had Nougat (7.x.x). I had my Xperia XZs bootloader unlocked and it doesn't appear green anymore in Android 8.0.
You will loose propitiatory software one of them is Xperia Lounge. It won't work after unlocking. (Seems bloat to me )
I don't unlock the phone's bootloader within few days but after few months.
Hi all, I know this thread has gone a bit quiet, but I'm just wondering if anyone can shed some light on whether or not there is any news on possibly backing up the DRM keys prior to rooting?
I did see someone in this thread post something about a DRM fix post root, could anyone please elaborate on this point, and if there is a tool handy anywhere, could you possibly link it. The tool mentioned might well be Xperifix
Thanks, guys and gals in advance for any further information and help.

At least you'll still have a working camera when unlocked unlike the olden days with the DRM keys
Once you've experienced the 90hz refresh rate on the 7P you'll probably not pick it back up. I can't switch back to the Sony from the pixel 4xl for that reason.

Hehe yeah I know what you mean, I think that I'll be selling the Xperia 1 and keeping the Oneplus, as I find that the phone can be quite difficult to use, with the screen shrunk to the one-handed mode, reading text is horrendous. and I've yet to find a film on NetFlix or Youtube or elsewhere that actually does justice to the screen, it's pointless expanding the film to get rid of the bars if you then miss out on the film itself because it's been cropped so much...
I shouldn't grumble, I got the Xperia 1 for an absolute bargain price, I spotted it on sale when the black Friday event was on in an O2 shop, it had £100 knocked off, and then it had been reduced by 50%, so I ended up getting the phone for a bargain price of £350!
