I really want to see the quality of picture this phone can take. I'm not very happy with the one on my tilt. I hope Raphael will have better camera picture quality.
Thanks in advance
picture quality is good only in extremely good light conditions

Haha, you can at least take a picture of your monitor or something... why a fish, man? an ugly one too.
Ugly? It looks like a monster, I nearly puked...
Is that the original size of the picture? Holy s*it its huge for a phone pic if it is.
more pics more pics more pics!!!!
I made a thread posting panoramic pictures in particular, but I'm not gonna go dig it up. The camera quality, like someone else stated, is great with good lighting... Once lighting isn't perfect, you can see the quality decline.
can you tell what it took?
i would have to say LIGHTING is key or turn on the flashlight and take closer pictures
I'm not too sure how this is supposed to work. I can get my camera to take some really sharp shots IF I hold my hands extremely steady - usually resting on something. Otherwise, the pictures are simply not as crisp. Isn't OIS supposed to help with this?... is it possible my OIS isn't working properly, or is it just a fact of having to be perfectly still for a perfect shot regardless? And my hands aren't "shaky" by any means.
I have shaky hands and am yet to take a crap photo with my N5, so I assume the OIS is working as intended.
Either that or knowing that the phone has OIS is a placebo cure for my unsteadiness
My pictures come out great!

You're not alone. The vast majority of N5 owners have noticed the ridiculously long shutter speeds. Action shots are almost impossible with this phone, but it will take excellent photos with lots of background light.
Maybe I'm spoiled coming from a Galaxy device but Samsung's shutter speeds are instantaneous.

Thank you very much!
I just got my Z5 Compact today and obviously I tested the camera out ASAP. I can't lie... It kind of bothers me and to me it's quite obvious. It's right in the top left corner but it's quite strong. I got it from Amazon, should I ask for a replacement or should I send it to Sony for a repair? I'm from the UK. I've attached the photo below:
Please take a pic of a book or some normal object. It's already been explained... monitors can cause distorted pics.

My bad. Here is two pics:
Let me know if I should retake them.
I can see some corner blurriness on the top left and the bottom left. I'm not sure it really bothers me though.
Should I return and get a brand new device or should I try and get Sony to repair it?
Could you rotate the camera 180 degrees and take the same pics again. That should verify it.

The way i see it, it's not a big problem. It's a common wide lens issue. If i'm on your position, i'll just keep the phone as it is. others result might be sharp from edge to edge, but it is really a narrow lens.
it seems you have a problem, your photos give an idea that there is a displacement of elements of the camera module, because the right side is blurred little less than it should be, and the left side is blurred more than it should be. I, I think almost perfectly semetrichno blurry right and left, later lay out a photo, and you can put the photo Made in so: put your phone camera at the table, or close the lens and take a picture in auto mode, photos need to do so that you can see the blue noise, it is a hypothesis, where it has been, and I think this can be judged from the defect. Please upload pictures, I have to see it, it can give more understanding of the problem for me, for you and for all.
To be able to detect the blurr properly, you need to have your phone leveled properly when taking the picture, for example in most of your pictures you take them from a weird angle, like from up to down, or from down to up, you need to take the photo exactly in the front leveled to the same angle as the monitor/book or whatever.
I hope you know what i mean.

I'm not sure it really bothers me, I will only notice it when I look for it and sometimes it doesn't look as severe as other pictures. Also by looking at the camera lens it DOES seem pretty much straight. I probably will not go through the hassle of returning/repairing. Maybe I will try to get it repaired near the end of it's warranty (a year in the UK I think).

No worries, I don't think I understood 100% what you said but I put the phone face down on my table and took a picture. There's more light coming from the bottom left but I think that is where the flash is located. If there are any other tests I can conduct for the community please let me know :good:
Pictures:
(1st one - "DSC_0375" is taken normally)
(2nd one - "DSC_0377" is taken upside down)
(3rd one - "DSC_0376" is the one requested by vyshgorado)
Thank you guys for helping a guy out!
EDIT: I'm not sure why the first picture is upside down... on my desktop it is the correct way up.

I took a look at both pics, and there is a bit of corner blurring in both. But I can't say if that's actually a lens problem or just do wind, lighting conditions, hand movement, etc. Normally, the problem shows up only on one side, so when the phone is rotated, the blurring should have followed. It doesn't look like that is what is happening here.
Okay, so I need you to do another, more conclusive, test. Take a pic indoors, where you have good lighting. Set the camera on a stand/mount/wall - something that will hold it steady (no hand-held pics, please), and use the self-timer, so you don't have to physically touch the phone. Then take the same pic using the timer, rotating it 180 degrees.
Basically, I need a couple of comparison pics where I can rule out any other external factors. Take a pic of some objects at, say, 2m to 4m away (or 5 to 10 ft). Blank wall is no good, as there isn't any details to see blurring. If you have time, take a few sets of pics of different objects/background. Makes it a bit easier to judge with more data.

Hi there, ur advice is apreciated, but dont u think that any fone sitting on a stand with a superior lighting conditions will get the pic 100% right ?
In my case m not having any distortion but rather lots of blurr, and i think the reason for this is bcuz once u snap the pic it takes abt 1 sec to 1.5 sec to fully take the pic.

Woah, calm down bre.
Ok here are some pics
Ok, thought I'd upload some photos.
I'm not a pro
Just an average joe.
They were all done with superior auto.
I don't think I have the blurring issue due to the misaligned lens.
Low light performance is an absolute abomination though (I don't have any because I delete them) Does anyone want to share camera settings with me that allows for decent low light performace?
I have searched the internet for examples of Astrophotography with the Google Pixel 4/4XL and couldn't find any other than what Google has put out. So, I recently went to the closest International Dark Sky Reserve in my area and captured these photos.
Am I the only person interested in this feature? ?
No, you're not alone I too have been playing with this. I just got my tripod mount and live in the country. I haven't had time to get some shots like yours, very good!

You'd need to get a relatively dark moon for it to be decent

The picture I took was the November full moon.
It certainly a great feature, but it is also pretty niche.
First, you have to have a tripod or other way to hold the phone steady. This isn't that difficult to figure out, but it also means that all the people that simply rush outside to try it the first time are going to get crappy results if they try to hand hold it.
Second, having access to a dark environment away from light pollution is very helpful. Unfortunately, the vast majority of us live where light pollution is a real problem. Even the smallest towns have so many lights that it prevents these dramatic pictures from being taken. The images I have been able to take are "meh" at best. Impressive technologically, but meh photographically......

It's a great feature, but it's simply not viable for most people due to the excessive light pollution from most cities. I had to drive 1.5 hours away from home just to take my shots: https://www.xda-developers.com/google-pixel-4-camera-review/

As does anyone attempting to photograph the stars. On a side note, my city is changing out the lighting here to improve star visibility. It has been working. I took this in my backyard. I used Photoshop Express "Vibrant" filter and this is it. All Astrophotography has post processing.

Yes, but that's the problem: Most people won't want to go that far just to take photos of the stars. They might do it during the occasional vacation, though. Since there aren't that many people taking Astro shots, the feature won't get talked about that much.

Have you tried with a regular camera? If so, can you still capture even with the light pollution?
I drove an hour and a half to get these photos. I had to do research to find the location, e.g. Light Pollution Map app, local Dark Sky Reserve, and opportunity to access it.
I want to get the Milky Way. I'll have to buy the Photopills app and plan for that shot months in advance. I already know where I want to get the shot, otherwise I would have to plan that too.
It takes planning to get these shots. ?

It's about on par with the dedicated CCD cameras on tracking tripods about 20 years ago, and they cost 000s and needed dedicated software and hours of processing.

Loving the first one, great image, you have a flair for this and composition.
Is that a lens flare in the third one? And the bright object bottom left a planet? Venus, Saturn and Jupiter set late afternoon, early evening and like you it's dark by 4:30 - 5, so Saturn?
I remember now we had a Saturn+Moon conjunction. Nice one.

I think it was a plane but usually those usually give big light trails. Managed to get a light trail from the space station a few weeks ago so surprising what you can see.
Not sure about the planets as I'm still working out where they all are.
Managed to get Andromeda galaxy tonight (right hand side of photo) but not as much detail as I hoped cause the moon's out again.

I don't know. I replaced my unit and the new one still has is, but it's much better than the first. It's impossible that all three sensors are faulty on 2 different phones. Or maybe extremely bad luck.

It's also possible they are busy with other things and didn't see the value in posting "haven't noticed" but hopefully calling them ignorant will get better results.
Haven't seen anything like the first picture, but the second two seem fairly normal.
Using night mode will tend to increase the effect. Unfortunately, this isn't an S21 / Note 20 Ultra that has the "top of the line" image processing software, so it tends to make a less effective attempt to improve the image. If you watch carefully, you will see the image capture with "proper" white, but then process and appear with a hue. You only have an instant to catch it, but you can see it happen.

I'm not bashing anyone. I'm always willing to help if I see someone on xda that needs help and I got the knowledge. This problem doesn't require any knowledge. Anybody can take a picture, as long as they have this phone. I was ironic when I said "maybe they don't know how to take pictures", just because of that.
This thread has been up for 7 days and you say everybody is busy. Day, night and the weekend. But they still got time to be on xda.
Thanks for editing your first replay with some useful stuff, but I see pink on viewfinder also, not just after the processing. Like I said, I already replaced my unit and this is much, much better, almost a non-issue, so I don't care about this for myself. I see there are others that are starting to see this problem. That's why I insisted on this matter. Not my intention to offend anyone.

There is a difference between having time to be on xda reading and having the time and conditions to take a low-light photo that they are willing to post on a public forum. You also have to consider that some of the traffic isn't even device owners. They are considering the device and interested in the issues or saw the thread in "NEW POSTS" and read it just out of curiosity.
Low light (and night mode) mode attempt to use the available light to adjust the picture. That can also mean the image inherits the tint of the light. Samsung has come a long way with low light photos, but they threw all that away and went back a generation releasing this phone. It will probably improve as they start to backport the new improvements to the old sensors.
