Original FlipCase Android 5.1.1 - Note Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Mates,
I noticed that Samsung changed the behaviour of the notification LED in coop with the original FlipCase.
The LED is turned off (and even 3rd party LED manager) are not able to drive it, when cover is closed.
So no I have to open the cover to check for Notifications...
As I made a custom whole in the cover over the LED I would love to revert this behaviour.
Any Ideas, proposals?

Why do you people always upgrade to the latest Android with Samsung phones without waiting? Samsung stops giving ****s about their phones immediately they release them. Was 5.1 a forced update? If it is, I need to start digging for a way to stop my lovely 4.4.4 kit kat Edge from upgrading. Works fine as is. I have heard nothing but complaints about the Rom updates.
This Flip Case deal just seems ridiculous and even more of a reason to disable any form of update I would get in the future

Hmm NVM. It appears even on 4.4.4 my LED notification all of a sudden quit lighting up with Flip Case. This is bizzarre. Does Samsung always work to screw over its customers like this?
---------- Post added at 01:25 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:55 AM ----------
Edit: No it works. I just need to widen the hole on my flip case so I can see the LED. looks like its a 5.1 issue for you then

Little bit off topic but can you post a pic of the case you punctured a hole in? I was planning to do the same but couldn't gather the courage xD

Haven't done it. Yet but I don't suppose it would be rocket science lol. What I do for now is push the flip cover to the left to have the stock oval slit slide over the LED light area.

And it's here... Great, few queries tho...

Hey everybody,
Got my GNote 10.1 yesterday and I had a blast last night (only had lil bit of sleep, and it continues tonight again). Order from Amazon two weeks ago, it got to my peeps in Miami last week, and it got to Belize 2 days ago.
What a difference compared to my previous ThinkPad tablet. It's really smooth and that's because I haven't tried my art apps yet. Hopefully Sketchbook Pro works better on this tab. Few questions tho:
1. Has anybody noticed that sometimes the tablet locks on pen only? This morning I had to restart the machine because it was only registering pen and touches every now and again. And I know, the pen was not close to the screen (it was right on my desk). Just want to know if this was isolated or I'll be having this intermittently.
2. I see my tablet came already with ICS 4.0.4 IMM76D.N8013UEALGB. I thought there a later firmware update, but I saw the thread that somehow it was pulled. My question is, I thought the tablet shipped with an earlier build number. Can it be a case where Amazon sent me an Open Box product, refurbished, or a tab that was previously owned and updated? The tablet box had both of its seals at the bottom of it torn but the box passed thru so many hands that I will never know if Amazon sent the box like that.
Thanks for reading, and glad being part of this community.

Welcome on board! Glad you are enjoying your new Note.
1. This should not happen, I have only experienced this when the pen is near the screen as it should be.
2. If the seals were damaged, it is quite probable that it is a returned unit possibly due to the fault you described and the fact that the firmware has been upgraded.
If I were you, I would not take any chances and get the unit changed. The problems you described could be due to the firmware which is why it seems to have been pulled by Samsung.

I contacted Amazon and the CSR says that the product is spanking new and I'm the first customer. I just bought it and had for only over a day, and if I want I can return it, but I live all the way in Belize and it's kinda pricey to Fedex stuff out to the US that way. Hopefully the screen freezing and not responding too well to touch (but the pen) was just momentary and is not a real issue. Having an updated firmware was kinda surprising to me too.
Thanks dude for the answers and the welcome.

Hey, Ron. Mine came with 4.04, and my seals were in tact, but nearly severed during shipping. There were a hundred little pieces of plastic on the tablet - if those were in tact I think you're safe that it is indeed new. Amazon doesn't ship used or refurbished unless it is a "Warehouse Deal". Any item bought through the regular site and sold by Amazon will be new.
I am unclear as to what you mean by "locks" in item 1. Please elaborate.

BTW, Congrats! Hope you enjoy the tab. I love it. Butter smooth in comparison to the TPT.

Hey dude!
Thanks for the welcome and thanks for the clarification. When I said "the screen locks..." I meant that the screen did not respond to touch; only to pen input. And as far I know I have not seen a pen-only input option on the tablet so I knew something wasn't right. But anyways, it hasn't done it since, so I think I'm safe.
Now, with the seals broken, it is possible that shipping did that, or Customs in the US, or the shipping company from Miami to Belize, or Customs in Belize... Probably I'll never know. However, I didn't see no hundreds of lil pieces of plastic in my box. Do you mean the shipping box or the Samsung tablet box? My shipping box had those air pockets sort of thing they put in boxes to absorb shocks. My Sammy box had nothing but the tablet on top.
Ron
But my tablet was protected with thin transparent plastic foils on the tablet, large ones and small ones, on the corners, ... If they were there (front and back) it is quite unprobable that someone already used the phone.
The problem of the non-responsive touch screen sounds like a modified rom (see the section here), did you root the device and if yes, how?

Yeah, the tablet had litle transparent soft plastic stickers (covers) on the front, edges and back (if that is what you meant). My tablet is unrooted. I'm not that naive to technology and I'm quite a fanatic and deal with gadgets pretty well; but I haven't gathered the guts and enough research to root the tablet.
I read that few of them have been bricked and that there are issues when upgrading. So, I think I'll either pass or wait.
Thanks

What I meant by pieces of plastic is all the protective stickers covering the tab. There were so many that I was still finding them days later.

New Owner! :)

Hey all,
So I have just purchased a 1+1 to replace a 1 month old G3...long story haha. Anyway hoping it will come next week as I paid for the quick delivery. Also ordered a glass screen protector and a Diztronic case to go with it.
Anyway, just have a question regarding issues with this phone that I should be on the lookout for when I start using it and is there anything that can be done about them. e.g. the screen ghosting issue...is this still a thing with this phone? some of the one year old reviews mentioned it and it has me worried.
Thanks
Just check if your phone has a yellow part at the bottom of the display or if you have touchscreen issues(choose a multitouch tester app and check if it recognizes everything correctly if you have your fingers on the same x achsis or the same y achsis)
Okay will do, what's the yellow thing about? Hoping I don't have any of these issues as I'm not wanting to have to mess around getting a replacement sent out.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I have the yellow tint at bottom. Its just a small section about half inch that has a very slight tint only noticeable on a white page like a internet page, it is a bit annoying but isn't bad enough that I wanted to send the phone back,
The phone is such good value it don't really bother me.
If you switch on the on screen buttons then its not there anymore, but I favour the capacitive button's .
But shouldn't be there on newer devices so wouldn't worry about it and enjoy a nice phone
I love the rough back cover it don't slip out the hand or off my leg
My galaxy s3 shoots all over the place
And I like the fact that when someone sees you using opo, they never heard of it b4. But love the look of the phone screen.
Anyway enjoy.

New AT&T software update

I just got notified a new update, Does anyone here knows what this update is about? I don;t want to slim down my chances of root( in the future hopefully) by updating my device now.
No guts, no glory. The phone is stock, so no worries. I'm at work, and taking the update now.
Don't know what all it did but my FPR is now working with my obliq case where it wasn't before.
I confirm MUCH better fingerprint reader performance. It works without touching the side rails, and works with my case (Ringke smoked plastic/TPU).
Might be worth updating just to get my damn print reader to work. They said we should be getting M in decmember, was hoping that was it.
my fpr working with case now too...too bad i already made an ugly notch in my case, time to buy a new one.

i think im gonna get the obliq now. it looks the best IMO
I just got this update as well... haven't noticed any differences as I run without a case on...

I checked in with AT&T, the software update is for the following:
Amazon V5.9
Google Security Patch
Spell Correction Disable Setting add
Conference Call screen
Finger Print recognition improvement when Bumper Case used
I can confirm, 100% success rate with the fingerprint scanner with the OEM bumper case on. I didn't even have to re-do my prints.
Fingerprint scanner is working 100% now with my case. I have the Spigen liquid crystal case. Also the name of the sofware version is now H90010f, before it was H90010d.
EDIT: With the H90010d version stage-fright detector found one vulnerability. Now is completely clean.

Recharge the phone, reboot it. If you still can't, try the next day.

Any way to access the status/notification bar when the phone is held horizontally?

Whenever I use the phone in landscape mode (with the edge site on top) I can't access the status/notification bar, as the edge bar is taking the same space. The only workaround I found is to have the edge side at the bottom, but this is a bit inconvenient as I'm used to holding the phone with the buttons (Home, Back) on the right. Is there another option?

I think you're going to like it. The edge screen is actually very functional and other than this landscape mode issue I consider it a benefit (unlike newer phones where the edge screen is just an aesthetic decision).
The main thing I like about the edge screen is that while navigating (using Waze) I can control my media player, make and accept calls without switching away from navigation screen and without pulling down the notifications panel (which again covers the screen).

Thanks, One of the main things I'm trying to figure out is if the entire screen is off and I get a KIK instant message if the whole screen lights up or if just the edge. And If just the edge lights up if it shows part of the private message or if it just says new message. Or if I need to get the wallet case for it that exposes the edge so the phone detects the magnet in the wallet case and activates the edge. No youtube video shows them things. I've seen it shows up on the edge to answer the phone. Which actually leads me to another questions. I'm gentle on phones but should I ever crack the edge or should the edge ever stop working does it give the option to still answer on the main big screen?
If edge notifications are enabled, the message and appears on the edge screen, but the whole screen lights up.
No idea about the glass. I'm very careful and never has as much as a scratch on the screens of my gorilla-glass-equipped phones. I hope the Note Edge won't be the first.

Ok thanks. Didnt mean to take over your thread. Im going to order the wallet case when i get it. That was one reason i wanted this phone was so it would only notify on edge and use less power. Too bad i need the case for it but its only like an extra $15 thanks again and sorry again
No worries about the off topic discussion. It keeps the thread up and I'm glad to help if I can
Can you post a link to the case? I'm personally using a $2 case from ebay which works fine, but I wouldn't mind paying more if I get better functionality.

Second reply. Something I did just notice though about that case. The volume button is inaccessible unless the case is open so I see my self cutting out a hole in it when I get mine to have access to the volume buttons.

I know this was from a little while ago so you might have already figured it out but with the Samsung flip case there's a actually + and - symbols on the side of the case (directly over the volume buttons), which allow you to use the volume buttons even when the flip case is closed.
Back to the original topic though.. Has anyone found a way to use the notification panel (or possibly an alternative) while in landscape on the Note Edge? I've been wondering the same thing because it drives me nuts not being able to get to the notification panel in landscape!! Thanks
Sent from a ridiculously modified ColecoVision
I put the edge on the bottom... and since I have the flip case, it doubles as a stand, with the edge on the bottom.
Go to Edge options and select "Edge screen on the left". Make sure you have all around orientation enabled. Now you can hold the phone in landscape with Edge screen on the bottom. That way you can use Notification pull down.

Finally, my beloved and hated LG G Flex, died.

Today while I was checking Facebook, my G Flex suddenly went off. Don't worry because that happened to me about 4 times a week. But this time, it was different, the phone didn't turn on again, not even connecting it to the power outlet. Apart from that, it was on its third battery purchased, as many will know, it always failed.
Now I kept thinking about the beautiful and horrible moments that this phone brought me. So many headaches from the stagnant LG system in Lollipop and with that disgusting layer of customization, added to the impossibility of unlocking the bootloader and the problem of super overheating of the Snapdragon 810 that even with retouched interactive governors could avoid it.
But at the same time great things like 24-bit audio support (It was wonderful to hear music on it.), a good rear camera with optical stabilization, the fact that this phone could be said to be "competitive" in terms of power today (obviously not taking into account overheating) and, most importantly, the CURVE SCREEN.
I'll miss this phone, probably buy a Galaxy S8, or a Moto Z2 Force, but something is sure.
I WILL NEVER BUY AGAIN AN LG IN MY LIFE.
My phone died too. It has the same symptoms. What I would like to buy is either OnePlus 5 or LG G6, but more towards the 1+.

I may be in the majority when I say this, but I miss the old designs of phones. The plastic design of the LG Flex 2 and LG G4 was perfectly fine by me. Now they make the phones out of delicate aluminum that is so slippery. The plastic phones can take more drops and hit than the aluminum ones can today.
I have mine rooted on the most recent image. How did you manage the overheating issue ? I'll admit the thing still has sentimental value to me lol.
My Flex2 died too. It was pretty good phone but what mostly I liked about it was, of course, the curve! That was so ergonomic, very comfortable to use and also to have in your pocket. That enabled 5.5" screen to manage with no hassle.
On the other hand the screen was pixelated (especially on low brightness), camera had no manual settings (except like on/off for HDR or flash, lol). SOT was barely acceptable, sometimes not even 4 ours. 2/16 GB were also very very limiting, not enough internal memory for apps, always forcing you to chose them carefully. Oh, I almost forgot - "self healing" battery cover. All it did for me was collected micro scratches from nowhere. Very unpleasant view to the careful phone owner.
What's next? Maybe G6, who knows.
For me LG share the blame with Qualcomm for this phone. The first version of the SD810 always overheated and was probably at fault for many of the hardware issues that users have suffered over the years. LG should have provided 3GB RAM on all versions to fully exploit the high end SoC. LG's software support for a flagship was also poor.
On the other hand, it was a beautiful piece of hardware. I really liked the screen and the curve felt excellent in the hand. The red back on some versions was much nicer than the grey of the H950.
So like others, I'm torn.
Second time this same problem happened to me also . I thought it was a rare occurrence; but today, my 2nd G Flex 2 died, just 5 months after my other one. Symptoms are the same as yours. Heat gunning the chips under the shields on the motherboard did nothing. Not sure if to get an LG phone next anymore...
My G Flex 2 also died and LG Support says they dont have the needed replacement parts and instead offered me to get an LG Q6 as replacement which feels like being ripped off.
Disassemble the phone and place the motherboard onto a piece of aluminum foil and bake it at 300°f for 8 minutes. Then letting it stand in the oven with the door open for a half hour. This generation of LG phones used bad solder compounds. Remelting them fixes them back to working order. Reassemble and enjoy.

What's the worst that could happen with this method? I'm nearly convinced to try this, although I still want to get the data off the EMMC chip.
My Flex 2 is still alive and well, about a year after I bought it. It heats up, slows down, is laggy, too bright in the dark and dim outside. Battery, seems to have improved over time, however, occasionally something will drain it in no time. Can't quite figure out what it is. Sometimes I get random restarts and weird behavior, but not on a daily basis. Perhaps once every week or two. Because it's too bright in the dark I use a dimming app, when dimmed you can noticably see that large areas of the screen (roughly half) have a sort of dark stain. This has been there since day 1. On MM stock.

Worst thing is that you bump it while it's still hot and ruin the board. Don't try and rush things. I'll fix it for you if you don't want to do it. I'm in the metro Detroit area though.

I'm on lollipop, and I notice the same lag as you. I think it has to do with how the Kernal and driver's use the available cores. This might have 8 of them, but they are vastly different. Some are fast, some, not so much. There are init d scripts that can help. I'm on the 3gb variant, and that helps as well. Hopefully we can find a bootloader bypass or an unlock, it would make this phone so much better. It's almost a mid ranged current phone. It's aged well. Let's hope something soon happens.

This will not fix software problems, only hardware. Just so you are aware.

LG told me it was a hardware issue..I haven't tried...been at work lately..I will try and report my findings
I just got a V20 used, and I miss my Flex2 already. The curve was brilliant, and I feel like I'm carrying a brick around with a straight phone
LG, will you PLEASE setup a bootloader unlock for this? I don't see why they don't, considering there's no official support for this phone, and even the carries don't care at this point.

As stated though, if you don't feel right about it, I'm in the metro Detroit area. If you're close by, I could do it for you this Saturday.
