And it's here... Great, few queries tho... - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everybody,
Got my GNote 10.1 yesterday and I had a blast last night (only had lil bit of sleep, and it continues tonight again). Order from Amazon two weeks ago, it got to my peeps in Miami last week, and it got to Belize 2 days ago.
What a difference compared to my previous ThinkPad tablet. It's really smooth and that's because I haven't tried my art apps yet. Hopefully Sketchbook Pro works better on this tab. Few questions tho:
1. Has anybody noticed that sometimes the tablet locks on pen only? This morning I had to restart the machine because it was only registering pen and touches every now and again. And I know, the pen was not close to the screen (it was right on my desk). Just want to know if this was isolated or I'll be having this intermittently.
2. I see my tablet came already with ICS 4.0.4 IMM76D.N8013UEALGB. I thought there a later firmware update, but I saw the thread that somehow it was pulled. My question is, I thought the tablet shipped with an earlier build number. Can it be a case where Amazon sent me an Open Box product, refurbished, or a tab that was previously owned and updated? The tablet box had both of its seals at the bottom of it torn but the box passed thru so many hands that I will never know if Amazon sent the box like that.
Thanks for reading, and glad being part of this community.

Welcome on board! Glad you are enjoying your new Note.
1. This should not happen, I have only experienced this when the pen is near the screen as it should be.
2. If the seals were damaged, it is quite probable that it is a returned unit possibly due to the fault you described and the fact that the firmware has been upgraded.
If I were you, I would not take any chances and get the unit changed. The problems you described could be due to the firmware which is why it seems to have been pulled by Samsung.

I contacted Amazon and the CSR says that the product is spanking new and I'm the first customer. I just bought it and had for only over a day, and if I want I can return it, but I live all the way in Belize and it's kinda pricey to Fedex stuff out to the US that way. Hopefully the screen freezing and not responding too well to touch (but the pen) was just momentary and is not a real issue. Having an updated firmware was kinda surprising to me too.
Thanks dude for the answers and the welcome.

Hey, Ron. Mine came with 4.04, and my seals were in tact, but nearly severed during shipping. There were a hundred little pieces of plastic on the tablet - if those were in tact I think you're safe that it is indeed new. Amazon doesn't ship used or refurbished unless it is a "Warehouse Deal". Any item bought through the regular site and sold by Amazon will be new.
I am unclear as to what you mean by "locks" in item 1. Please elaborate.

BTW, Congrats! Hope you enjoy the tab. I love it. Butter smooth in comparison to the TPT.

Hey dude!
Thanks for the welcome and thanks for the clarification. When I said "the screen locks..." I meant that the screen did not respond to touch; only to pen input. And as far I know I have not seen a pen-only input option on the tablet so I knew something wasn't right. But anyways, it hasn't done it since, so I think I'm safe.
Now, with the seals broken, it is possible that shipping did that, or Customs in the US, or the shipping company from Miami to Belize, or Customs in Belize... Probably I'll never know. However, I didn't see no hundreds of lil pieces of plastic in my box. Do you mean the shipping box or the Samsung tablet box? My shipping box had those air pockets sort of thing they put in boxes to absorb shocks. My Sammy box had nothing but the tablet on top.
Ron

But my tablet was protected with thin transparent plastic foils on the tablet, large ones and small ones, on the corners, ... If they were there (front and back) it is quite unprobable that someone already used the phone.
The problem of the non-responsive touch screen sounds like a modified rom (see the section here), did you root the device and if yes, how?

Yeah, the tablet had litle transparent soft plastic stickers (covers) on the front, edges and back (if that is what you meant). My tablet is unrooted. I'm not that naive to technology and I'm quite a fanatic and deal with gadgets pretty well; but I haven't gathered the guts and enough research to root the tablet.
I read that few of them have been bricked and that there are issues when upgrading. So, I think I'll either pass or wait.
Thanks

So, you have no touch capabilities, only pen? That's not right.

What I meant by pieces of plastic is all the protective stickers covering the tab. There were so many that I was still finding them days later.

Sears Has a problem.

My local Sears store said they had 15 gtablets in stock. Picked one up. It was shrink wrapped. When I opened the box, there was no tear off covering the screen. When I fired it up, it did not bring me to the first time screens. The date time and location were already set up. The settings key did'nt work and when I went on line the weather wouldn't work. I took it back. They brought out a brand new shrink wrapped box which I opened in front of them. It did not have the tear off screen protector. At this point I got my money back. Be careful.
No tear off screen protector? None of the newer batches have that - that was only on the first batch of 1000. And if they were actually shrink wrapped, these could have actually been new. They might not have been screwing with you.
I don't remember if my one new device that I had bought had its settings already pre-programmed or not. That was waaaaayyy back in early November.
When I first started mine up it didnt go through the initial set up, because I didnt fully charge it before turning it on. later on I left it plugged in overnight and when I turned it on it went through the initial set up asking for username, date and time so on.
Not sure if you charged it for a certain amount of time before turning it on, but the paperwork says that in the box I believe.
update: Okay, I checked the box and the quick start guide says plug in until you see the green light indicator saying its fully charged before turning on for the first time.
My Tab
My Tab came shrink wrapped and in a white sleeve with no tear off protector either. I noticed location was default to first location on auto list. My Tab was new and I also didn't charge it all the way on first boot. After I did I also got the full first time boot menu asking for all my info.
Mine from Amazon did not have a screen protector. Before I used it, I charged it until the green light was on but it didnt ask me for setup information. I think after I restarted it the first time was when it finally did.

I packaged mine up today to bring back to Sears. I hope no trouble with the return.
It came with cwmod and TB files already on it, definitely USED. Also no screen protector AND the box was not even sealed.
I am not up to making all the mods and the screen, though I thought it would be fine from "the looks", causes me lots of eye strain when I use it for extended periods of time. Bummed out.
Bought mine right after turkey day and it was sealed. it had no screen protector and the green wipe cloth.
It did not ask for the initial setup when power up at first. After my battery charged complete it did want the initial setup.
I'd be willing to put money on the fact you just went through two new units that now have to be sold as used, someone better check the outlet store!
You know it occurs to me, my Sears still claims they don't have any at all anymore. The cardboard display was still up the other day, but the price is down, it was off the web site. The guy I spoke with over the phone said it wasn't even a product in their inventory anymore.
I was considering getting a second one as I'm sort growing attached to this one and don't really want to give it to my daughter as was the plan.

Nascardudette, your tablet was used for sure and sold as new. Make sure to tell them that and don't let them get away with charging you a 15% restocking fee.
New units don't come with CW Mod to the best of my knowledge.
I think (and therefore this is my opinion) that it is against the law to sell a previously used item as new. I think the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regulates this.
Yours is the second post I have seen where a unit was sold as new by Sears that had been used. The other post was the guy who's tablet had a 16 gig SD card inside and I think (but don't remember for sure) his also had CW Mod loaded before he bought it. I think he did get a 10% discount though so Sears may be covered (CYA) on that one.
BTW, who's your driver?

Thanks for the support That is going to be my approach. I did read that post about the other Sears "new/not" unit. At first, I thought I would try for the outlet price, but I just don't think this is going to suit my needs.

My wife and I met Kyle Busch at Sprint Fan Fest in November in LV. We saw all twelve chase drivers at the event (J.J., K.H., Ky.B., Ku.B., M.K., T.S., J.G., J.B., C.B., D.H., C.E., and G.B.) also and had picture taken with J.J. Lot's of fun.
Good luck with your return, please post results.
Got mine from Office Depot. Box was shrink wrapped, unit was in white sleeve with no screen protector. Had to leave it plugged in a good 5 minutes before it would even turn on, but when it did it didn't ask for any information. I set it up on my wifi, did the OTA TNT update and immediately turned it off and installed CWM and VEGAn. The plug was in plastic on side and the US blades for the wall wart was in a zip lock bag. I have no doubt that it was a brand new unit.

Got mine from office depot also, out of box was same as you described. I believed it to be a brand new unit because the initial splash screen was the picture of the three birds, then it switched over to the G Tablet Logo.
Also, the very first time I tried to get into recovery (without installing CWM first) the screen would go into "open box icon with arrow pointing out and down and the android next to it) with no result. It would continue to boot normally. That right there told me it was a new unit.
After I flashed CWM (Without installing a custom ROM) that screen with the birds was gone and went straight to the G Tablet logo after powering on.

I got mine from Staples the monday before Thanksgiving, and it did not have the tear off screen protector either, nor did it go into any sort of setup and yest the date/time were correct as the very initial release firmware was set to Cambridge, MA (TnT hq)...
There was also a bug in the first fw in which it would not permanently change the location when you changed it and in mine the news app would eventual force close.
The next OTA update fixed the location being remembered, but then the weather app was FCing on me but news worked.
At this point I said f'it, installed clockwork mod and started trying out the various custom firmwares and eventually settled on roebeet's TnT lite as I was busy at the time and didn't want to mess with Cyanogen while TnT lite pretty much worked...
So yours was new, and you probably didn't update the fw as the newer fw are supposed to be more stable but I've never gone back to check.
[EDIT]
The box was shrinkwrapped at Staples too, but they could've easily done that at the store since it didn't have any annoying tapey kind of pieces over the openings... came with green cloth too so it was a second batch.
The only time that I'd heard of anyone getting a non-new tablet was with the Augen Gentouch78 when someone got one with clockwork mod and linckraker's custom fw already installed with market... apparently missed the ones about the gTab... but if I got one that was definitely not new(custom fw installed), I'd take it back and they'd have to take it as they knowingly sold it as new when it clearly was not which is highly illegal.

I refused to buy my from Sears, all they had out was a cardboard picture, pretty cheesy. I got both of mine from Office Depot and both had no screen protector, but came in white sleeves. All and all I am very pleased, so much so I just sold my netbook.

For the weather app not remembering location with the older firmware, if you add in your real location, then remove all of others that are there by default, it'll stay on your location.
Jim
I piicked up a new one from Sears and it did not have tear off screen cover, but it was definitely new.

hmmm... never thought of trying that but I was only on that release for a few hours as I got an OTA update that very evening IIRC... which fixed remember location, but broke the weather app for me...
Another thing to remember is that a few lucky people got a version of the gTab with 1GB of RAM, although internal storage was partitioned differently from the from the "normal" gTabs. No idea if anyone ever got around to working out a workable way to re-partition it and just use everything that we have, but it'd've been nice to have 1GB and possibly the miniPCIe card slot populated...
Returned unit to Sears - no restocking. When I told them about the previously installed files they were so surprised, genuinely. And they tagged it with a big yellow sticker. Credited my card without issue.
It might show up in outlet soon.
Thanks to everyone for the help.

screen TF700

I purchased the TF700 from amazon and recieved this Friday shipped from France was very happy with it and last night spent a few hours playing around on it whilst docked with the keyboard i then folded it up (carefully) and put it in a safe place, this Morning I opened it and shocked to see there is a crack in the top left hand corner near the ASUS logo, I have been very carefull with it and not banged it or dropped it and not been heavy handed with it . I did a search on google and seen a thread on here regarding the prime and the screen cracking whilst docked and folded up . the designs look identical so this would seem the be the same problem, Im going to contact ASUS tomorrow but im not holding out much hope on a satisfactory outcome.. absolutely gutted first decent bit of kit i've bought in years and its bust in two days
thought i best warn people so they don't suffer the same fate.

Same for me, though put screen protector on it now, and you can't see it anymore and its works the same. Though the stress if off the glass so it wont break again, I think its a big fault of ASUS. To not fix this if a previous model had the same fault.
f700 cracked screen as well
I have the same problem as well. I have a two week old and found a crack in the screen this evening. It looks like the glass is slightly bent outward meaning it's a stress fracture and not caused by dropping the tablet op dropping something on the tablet.
It looks like this is always a problem in combination with the dock. I've found other threads here and on transformerforums dot com (can't post direct link as new member).
I wasn't aware of this problem. If I was I wouldn't have bought the dock. I really wanted to like this tablet but it's not off to a good start.
Just heard about this issue; being my first ever tablet would hate to have it happen, I feel for you
When you open it do you open from the centre? I read on another forum lifting a corner can put stress on it.
Same for me. 3 days old tab and a broken screen when i wanted to pull out the tab from the dockingstation carefully. Cracked screen from the upper left to the upper right side. Asus say it is my fault an i have to pay for repair. I hate Asus for this and i'll never ever buy a product of this company.
Any change to see picture/s of these cracks?

This is just one reason why Square trade Warranty is a really good idea... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903575 is another.
Here is my picture. Crack is hard to see on a photo. From top left to the top right.
yeah that stinks. i honestly don't know if they would even warranty RMA that or not. I keep mine docked almost all the time for the past idk 6 months (TF201 and now TF700) and have yet to have an issue. I think some tabs are manufactured in such a way that the screen pops out a little and the closing of the dock/tab combo puts stress on the glass causing breakage. sorry to see that

Now that sucks
I would take it back to where you got it from and have them send it back to Asus if you only had it a couple days. Paying $500 for it and it cracked in two days, that's crazy. They will just send it back to Asus.
I already sent it back to amazon.de.
They sent it back to me and told me that a broken glass is always the fault of the user. Nice customer service I sent it to Asus and same story. Broken display is always user intendet. No warranty. Nice customer service from Asus. Believe me i will never ever buy a Asus product again.
Are you in the uk? Did you purchase by credit card m if so they are equally liable along with the retailer, and in this case there seems enough reports to suggest this is a common design flaw, so take it up with them citing the significant number of reports here?

Same thing happened to my less than 2 month old TF700. Crack is across the screen from left to right 1/3 from the top. I just opened it one morning and the crack was there. No bumgs, no drops, the exterior was crack, bump free. Sent it to their service center and their head tech stated that it was user induced damage and even implied that my device was already opened 'coz of "scratches" in the locking mechanism. I talked to their tech and he said that all their products are quality checked and there was no way that the crack was caused by faulty assembly, and I pointed out that there was a loose bulge on the left and right side of the tablet, but he wasn't able to give me a reason. He said that he's the last word on it and it's a dead end.
I guess that's what Asus calls VIP Treatment for their customers.

Wow, this is the exact opposite experience that I have had with them on this issue. I support a number of these that are used as thin client replacements for sales staff and several of them have gone through this process due to unexplainable cracks in their screen. In all 4 cases that I know of, Asus did the repair for free. Since a cracked screen is really not something that I can do anything for, I have been having them RMA the unit themselves. They have never had a problem and in most cases had it back in a couple weeks(longest was 3). I am in the US and I am pretty sure they have been sent to the Texas repair center.
I told the users when they called to explain that it has not been dropped, or banged into anything, there are no visible signs of damage other than the screen crack... and that you believe the crack might have been caused by the dock.
Sorry for the unlucky others who have been met with accusations and refusal. FYI- sometimes it helps to complain to the higher ups or maybe Gary or Tien- they have always been willing to help or at least refer me to someone who can give me more than the standard RMA treatment.

build quality issues still present

I purchased my first tf700 from Newegg 5 or 6 weeks ago. The build was excellent. No screen separation issues and little light bleed. I ended up RMAing the device due to a weird screen issue where it was randomly tapping/swiping by itself every now and then.
I just received my new device which has an 80 serial number, and the screen is separating. If you sight down the edge of the top you can see that it actually bows out quite a bit toward the middle, and it clicks when I press it. SO FRUSTRATING!
Newegg's RMA procedure is as painless as it can be for an online purchase, but I think I'll return this one for a refund and purchase from Best Buy so I don't have to spend the foreseeable future shipping Infinities back and forth.

I bought one off amazon everything was great, then the corner of the screen start to click when I picked it up. :/ it was so perfect..............................................................................
Guys, there are like a thousand threads on these same issues already here, each with perfect solutions for dealing with the situation should it arise. Must we have yet another negative TF700 thread? My 700 is perfect, and so are the majority of people's as well. Continuing to populate the forums with these types of threads though does nothing but scare away potential developers from wanting to shell out the cash to pick up one of these tabs and develop awesome roms for us!
I do not mean to sound rude, nor am I flaming, but please, mods lock this thread before it spirals into something worse.
I agree with theanarchist that this is the same thread that we've all seen. But I also don't think most peoples tabs Are perfect. Some (like me) are still trying to find a perfect one And some have just accepted what they have and have given up. Others (like you) managed to get a perfect one.

Mine is perfect as well. My mother, my uncle, my best friend Craig, and my in laws have a perfect unit too. So when I see threads like this, it makes me wonder if people have an agenda.

Mine's not perfect, clicking near the hdmi port and you can click it from a good portion up towards the middle of the screen. I personally gave up on Asus, though hearing that there are people that have indeed perfect ones makes me wish I had exchanged it. I was hesitant because I had already returned a tf300 (screen issue) and then later the Prime that I had replaced the tf300 with. I had only returned the Prime to get the tf700, as I was pretty frustrated I couldn't get the gps to work EVEN with the dongle Asus sent me. I didn't have any wifi issues really nor any screen clicking issues with the Prime and though I like the infinity the screen clicking annoys me. Wondering if I should rma it directly to them, just don't want to get a different tab back or been in a worse situation as a result.

There was an earlier thread that theorized that the build issues were being addressed in the more recently built devices. I posted to show that even with the more recent 80 serial number devices, the same issues are present on at least a percentage of tf700s.
I certainly have no agenda. I'm on my second Infinity, which will unfortunately also be going back. The first one had some extreme screen separation on the right hand side. It was an C06 serial number. The one I'm on now, my second is a C80 serial number. The screen is good, with just a slight clicking in one spot on the right hand side. I'd live with it. However the light leaking out onto the screen along the bottom and right side from the LEDs is very very noticible.
I won't give up. I really love everything about the TF700 except for the build quality issues that I have experienced. I think the OP has a valid point in saying that the issues are not fixed yet. When my second unit came, I was psyched to see the serial number on the box said C80. I was very disappointed that it too has issues.
I think...
I think the screen seperation can be because of the humidity. Where do u live?

I don't think it's humidity. I live on the west coast of the US. Pretty dry here. I noticed a curve in the glass along the top of the screen as soon as I took it out of the box and removed the skin/wrapper. It's noticeably bowed out in the middle of that edge.
I just wanted to chime in to say that this is my 2nd C8. The 1st had a June build date and it came with the .22 firmware. I exchanged that one for this 2nd C8 which came with the .26 firmware and a 20120720 build date.
The 1st infinity had power and volume button issues and sharper than normal edges all around. I can't find anything wrong with the build on this second C8 other than the haptic feedback is set really low. (Does vibrate when power on)
I'm rooted and have the dmclient froze in titanium backup while I read up on NV flash. (Guarding against a forced OTA update) I made the mistake of applying the .30 OTA to soon last time.

Glad to hear that. Hopefully, 3rd time will be the charm. I really do LOVE this tablet, I just want one that's solidly built and works.
Agreed. I don't see how humidity is going to affect Corning's Gorilla Glass 2. Seriously don't see this being a factor at all.
I suppose I am one of the luck ones as well, no discernable bleeding edge light and completely flat screen. Of course, I bought the 64GB model from BB online, and it already have .26 on it when it arrived.
I too just returned my c8 version today that suffered from light bleed, mushy/sticky power and volume buttons, separating screen which also had sharp 90 edges. The one I just picked up is a night and difference from the first one. This one is a c9 version and other than a little light bleed the construction is solid. It doesn't even appear to be the same tablet....its like the first one was a cheap knock off. Another thing I am noticing with this new one is that the speed of touch feedback is so much faster than the C8.
I did decide to purchase the extended warranty this time around...my experience with the prime has left me jaded and there is no way I'm going to be left holding a dud.
With that said, I suggest if possible to keep on returning them until you find a good one...they do exist!
If Asus can't be persistent with their perfection...Be persistent with the returns!
F me! Just noticed this one is creaking like an old rocking chair, its on the left side by the hdmi port.
Today, I swapped out my first C7 after owning it for a week and received a C8 as a replacement. It amazes me the differences between the two.
For my particular devices, the differences were:
C7 pros: The construction was very solid. I kept reading horror stories about screen lift, creaking, etc. and mine felt solid like a tank. No light bleed issues either.
C7 cons: It suffered from severe I/O issues. Trying to download something from the market would grind things to a halt until the download and install finished. The Browser lagged a bit as well........as did moving around the launcher or clearing items from the recents menu . I returned it because there was a spec of dust under the screen which just really bothered me.
C8 pros: It feels like they put better quality internals in this one! There have been none of the i/o issues, lag, or stutters. Everything is very responsive and snappy. From a software usability standpoint, this feels like a completely new device.
C8 cons: The physical build quality is definitely not as high as the first. There are spots around the edges of the glass that feel "squishy". There is also a bit more lightbeed but i would not call it bad by any means.
For now, I am going to keep the C8 because the performance difference alone is worth it. The minor physical build quality issues aren't bothering me enough yet to risk giving up the performance.
One trend I seem to have noticed after reading all these reviews is that the build date does not seem to have much correlation with physical build quality. However, it does seem that more recent models may be using higher quality internal components contributing to noticeable performance gain.
These are just my observations.

I'm returning my tf700t. I'm not buying another one cause in not playing this game with asus. My tablets screen is popping off and now all of a sudden I'm getting the flickering line on the screen. I thought I was of the Lucky ones and got a "good" one. Wrong.... I'm going to get the note10.1. The case I bought and am selling was supposedly for the tf300t and it fit that one but was way too tight in my opinion and fits this one much better. PM me your email for details and pictures.
Also will add the stylus.

Sounds like you've just had bad luck. On a side note, the note 10.1 has some really cool software on it.

[Q] Ghost Touch issues fix?

I bought this tablet off Amazon's Warehouse Deals. It came to me dinged and scratched up, but operable. I noticed the touch screen was a little off and would report false touches occasionally, but I didn't think it was anything to worry about. Like a kid in a candy store, I raced to get a new ROM so I could optimize this thing. In the process I unlocked the bootloader, rooted and installed PACman ROM. Ghost touches disappeared--gone for like 3 whole days. I'm ecstatic, and falling madly in love with this tablet. Then I notice the ghost touches coming back after the 5th day I have had it. Now its showing about 3 ghost touches almost constantly in one vertical line (in landscape) on the right side of the screen. Pretty much totally inoperable. I have scoured all ends of google, and most of the time it spits me out here, searching thread after thread of nothing but "RMA it". My questions are:
Is there any fix to this besides shelling out money for a new digitizer? Is that the general consensus that the digitizer is the root of the problem? I know I'm able to return the product, but does anyone know if Amazon is going to give me grief over an unlocked product that was a scratch-and-dent deal anyway? Any way I can re-lock the device? I've seen multiple threads with replies saying "lol didn't you read the blah blah? no way bro", but these were posted a couple months ago. Maybe something new has come up. I guess I just feel sorta rooked because I bought a defective piece of hardware, and now I can't get a refund just because I modified the software.

Same thing happened to my brother's tf300t. He returned it as defective, but I guess you could replace the digitizer. As far as I saw, it was a hardware problem, so it requires a hardware fix. Sorry

I got a similar situation in the last two weeks. The problem I have is that my TF300T is keeping rebooting by itself. I've googled it and people say most likely it's a hardware issue. I am trying to find a way to see if the device can be reset to factory condition so that I can return it for repair. Looks like we are on a same boat. Hopefully I can find a way to do so.
Just an update on my issue, in case anyone else stumbles across this particular problem. So far I have gone almost a week with no ghost touches. I popped off the back of the device (three guitar picks did the trick), and disconnected the digitizer ribbon cables and reseated them. Problem vanished. My best guess is that the keyboard dock puts odd pressure on the device. That mixed with rough handling is bound to cause some problems.

It could be the power button is jammed? I know mine is really touchy (all I do is tap it with my stylus and screen turns on/off. Good luck!

Thank you. I just got mine from Groupon as refurbed.. (they did a ****ty job, apparently) Ghost issue about 2 days after getting it out of the box. By then already unlocked and flashed CWM.. sigh.
I'll try your fix tonight. Any chance there is an image of the right connector/ribbon?
Hopefully the image quality isnt too bad. I took an exacto knife and gently pried up the black foam squares, set them aside and worked my magic. Hope this helps. Just be careful with the ribbon cable (duh). Hope this helps!

Thank you! I'll try this adventure later this week.
Did this today.. So far, 20 mins on it, and no issues. Typically took about 5-7 mins before. So, crossing my fingers this is gone.
THANK YOU! I can go back to enjoying my tablet
Im in the same boat with this Ghost Touches Issues, and its getting worse, sometimes im working at college and this Ghost appears and the tablet gets almost unusable, Only the Keyboard Dock saves me.
Please if you can give me more detailed instructions i think i would be brave enought to do this surgery to my tf300t, merry christmas!

i just noticed that when having a ghost touches attack, if i put pressure con the tablet, lime trying to bend it, the touches vanish.
I also have the ghost touches but it seems to only happen when the screen is dirty. As soon as I clean it off, they go away. Would a good screen protector help with that? I may go ahead and try taking off the back and messing with it.

I thought mine was fixed, but doesnt seem to be. I technically didnt remove the connectors.. I was nervous, they are WAY fragile. I simply unlocked and pressed firmly on them to attempt to reseat them..
Problem seemed to go away until I used Chrome. Chrome is what seems to trigger odd behaviors for me. I may try another browser and see if it still happens.
I've been dealing with this off and on for about 8 months; asus HAS to be aware of it as my tab has been back twice for this issue (out of warranty now) and I take advantage of their complaint form every month or so.
Here's what I've been working off of (based on personal experience/experimentation):
Re-seating the cables might help for a day or less, but isn't a permanent fix. I even went as far as strategic pieces of tape to hold the flex cables in place and tape across the connectors to encourage them to stay closed.
The first time I popped the back off the larger of the three flexes (with the silver wrap) had partially worked out of the connector on the driver board. Re-seated it and problem disappeared for about a day.
The large copper heat spreader was basically spot contacting the CPU and really wasn't touching the smaller ancillary chips (unit had been running warm for a few months, thought that might make things wonky). I pressed heat shield back down to ensure adhesion, and slightly molded the copper around each chip. Ghost touch gone for two days, unit way cooler running than before.
Here's the interesting one to me. Tonight I noticed that even just hovering my finger close to the screen I can get the 'touch dot' to show; this got me thinking about static. I held the tab in a way that at least one finger of one hand was touching the screen, like towards an edge (out of the active area) while using the other hand to touch the screen. Seemed like one hand was grounding the screen, like a charge couldn't dissipate from the surface.
Isn't this a "capacitive touch' screen? Could it be a matter of grounding?
I too purchased this tablet and dock from Groupon about 4 weeks ago or so as a manufacture refurb. My tablet does the same thing. After about an hour or so use most of the time it starts randomly acting like the screen is being touched. And it appears to only be in the upper right corner area (kinda where the lock screen pattern show up when you unlock it) in landscape mode. Sometimes it may take a little longer of use before it happens. It happens regardless if the dock is plugged in or not. I have figured that if I lock the screen and wait a few seconds and then unlock it. The ghost touches are gone for a while. I first began thinking it may have been a OS issue and hough about rooting and putting a custom rom on it. But from what I have seen on the web it doesnt seem to matter whether its rooted or not. So should I RMA it back or has any one had permenant luck with reseating the cable?
Thanks

I'd try reseating the ribbons. I kind of doubt it would solve the problem since it's a refurbished with a latent defect. Bad ribbons would strike at random but do not wait for a while before acting up. Look at the glass surface under a magnifying glass and bright light. Hairline cracks cause this after the tab heats up, but you can't always detect them. RMA would be the safe option unless you're really pressed for time.
Ghost touches are back. Noticed I had alot of them when my storage was full. Used a previous recovery (same ROM, just earlier date with less junk installed) and it cut down the frequency of them happening. This is so weird.
I had those ghost touches when 4.2 roms started (CM and AOKP and all of the rest of them. Then someone, I don't remember who had compiled rom with decreased touchscreen sensitivity and ghosting was gone. I think they started with PAC or AOKP, I really don't remember.
Then I went to 4.3 and 4.4 roms and I didn't have one single ghost touch since then. I do noticed sometimes when I hover finger over screen it is registered as touch, but ghosting by itself didn't occur on those roms.
one cent fix
I have an ugly, but effective solution working on my pad right now. It has been in place for about three or four months.
Holding in landscape mode, pulled the bottom left corner back slightly and inserted a penny between the back and the lcd. This put enough torque on the screen to kill all of the ghost touches and it still fits into the keyboard dock. There is an ugly gap where the penny is, but it is now fully functional.
Hope this helps some of you
