Tonight i moved to cm7, if im not mistaken it is the latest nightly thats been release.
Specs as followed: Mod Verision: CynaogenMod-7-08312011-NIGHTLY-G2x
Build Number: GRJ90
CPU Info: ARMv7 Processor rev 0 (v71)
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.45-cyanogenmod
Android Version: 2.3.5
Please give me inputs and thoughts as to which kernal and rom combo would get me the biggest improvments I'm really looking to be wowed as much as i was when i upgraded from my G2 to the amazing G2x now i want more. Sorry for all the run on and this not being short.
Please leave personal information/reviews of your suggestions if you can. i know there will be a few different options and I've been loading the roms and setting everything up and backing up and trying new ones that way i can "Hot Swap" Rom if i want to change on the fly.
Thanks Again,
Jon
The first i have ever tried was the CM7 Nightly Build124 and had running with Faux123v0.4.1 Kernel. Great ROM and wicked fast and ok battery life. Then i moved onto Weapon G2X v2.5 but noticed it wasn't quite as fast as CM7 so i decided i wanted to try a different ROM but with a CM7 base. So i tried Eagleblood 1.9. Fast but wasn't stable and battery life sucked. Then i thought i'd give MIUI a try. After first boot up, i really wasn't feeling the whole iPhone feel...but as i got to play around with the different themes ande theme edits, i thought to myself: this is it. It's the perfect blend of iPhone functionality and simplicity along with Android endless customizations and amazing speed. Now my G2X feels like the best phone out there.
But it's really a personal preference. It's your phone and you want it enjoy it the way you want to.
Oh and its always good to have other ROMS and kernels as backup on your SD card.
yea id definately like to stay away from iphone anything, i really like android , bought my first android when the g1 first came to tmob, and been a fan ever since (tried windows mob 6 and despised how laggy it was) , ive played with iphones and do not like the lay out, i love the simplicity and customization of android roms and all, so id like to stick to something similar just looking for different internals to increase performance and battery life, all the features are fine pretty much , i wish it was as easy as computers just upgrading the ram inside the phone but i highly doubt we can upgrade from 512 mb of ram to 1 gb or more but can miui be swapped away from the iphone look/feel? i tried running cm7 with faux kernal but everytime i attempt to load the kernal zip from rebooting into recovery and loading zip from sd card, i get tossed into a boot loop (lg boot image, then switches to lg boot image with a blue and black loading bar, just keeps swapping back and forth between the two) so i end up recoverying to either my gb stable or a cm7 with stock kernal .
Yes ofcourse. With MIUI you can always run a different Launcher...like Go Launcher Pro or ADW. But the MIUI launcher is what sets it apart from all others...its very easy to customize. Here's the MIUI themes thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1183979
Oh and to avoid bootloop...whenever you flash a new kernel always wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache. sometimes it helps if you fix permissions as well.
Ill check it out, are you running the faux kernal on the miui rom?
Thanks ill try whiping the dalvic and cache before flashing. And ill check out the miui thread you posted. Is there a faster kernal out there besides faux
The best performance and battery life combo I've experienced so far is CM7 with faux's kernel.
I've tried various different roms so far and my experience has been that anything based on stock LGE roms (such as EB and Weapon), although a big improvement over stock, is still plagued with incompatibilities and instability.
For example gtalk video doesn't work on anything based on stock, and netflix still doesn't work despite the most recent update providing compatibility with all froyo and gingerbread devices. Also because of LG's buggy bluetooth stack, you cant use wii or sixaxis controllers... pretty sillly on a fast phone capable of emulating N64 and PSX without lag and supports HDMI out.
That said CM7 is the best bet as long as you don't mind not being able to use a2dp... as far as I'm concerned its a small price to pay for all the extra functionality, battery life and speed CM7 brings to my phone.
I've also tried some CM7 based roms, but have never seen a big enough improvement to stray away from official CM7 or a kang such as fitsnugly's.
Right now I am using fitsnugly's kang.
As far as kernels go, I've experienced at least a 30% increase in battery life on faux's CM7 kernel maybe more. He has two versions, I recommend the one with the CM battery driver because the DS driver will make you want to pull your hair out.
Also I would recommend getting the July 15th baseband via the lg updater tool. It improves battery life and makes GPS lock instantly.
based on your last post of you bringing up that lge buggy blue tooth driver, i just purchased a new headset, Jawbone Icon, it syncs and connects with my phone just fine but when i attempt to make calls or answer calls no audio can be heard by bluetooth device, and unknown if my speech is heard on the other end. is this a conflict related to the bluetooth stack provided by lge

Yur welcome. As far as the fastest kernel, Trinity15 is quite fast too but i always seemed to prefer Faux for some reasons.
so i wiped the davlic and cache, reinstalled the cm7 rom , it loaded right, restarted a second time and went back into recovery , and attempted to load the faux kernal i have loaded on my sd card, i again cleared dalvick and cache, and ran fix permissions, it appears it was going to do boot loop after i restarted but instead got to the s/w ugrading screen, but it sat there for approximately 5 minutes before i decided to restore back to previous settings
Weren't you already running CM7?
Did you flash a newer nightly or something?
Also, make sure the faux kernel you downloaded was the right one. One is intended for CM7 and one is for stock GB, they have separate threads.
If you are sure you flashed the one intended for CM7 and it was the undervolted one, try the standard voltage.
Also based on your post I'm not sure what order you did things in but after wiping cache and dalvik, flash the kernel then fix permissions.
Good luck.
Hi there,
I am sort of new to rooting and have never installed a custom android operating system or ROM yet. I would like to put on something with Android 5.0 if possible, but if none are out yet, which is the best ROM to put on my LG G3, and a tutorial to do it?
I want to use all of the eatures of the phon still as well.
Are there lollipop ROMS out yet for this phone, and if not should I wait for it?
Thank for your help.

I too am using Cloudy and find that the top half of the phone doesn't heat up as much. There's an eco mode you can turn on as well. Not sure it that's what's going the trick, but I've kept it on because the battery life is great now.
As for the lag, have you tried flashing Pure Performance X? It's made all the ROMs I've tried snappier (including Cloudy).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...s/mod-pureperformancesx-zeno-edition-t2360985
I'm using Viper for my third day now. The first day the battery drained really fast as google processes was raelly active, but the last two days ive gotten over 4 hours of screen on time easily and it's definitely been an improvement over stock for me. I havent played any games but phone did not get hot watching youtube vids.
I am not familiary with pure performance X, looks interesting though.
Hi all
i had my OPO for 2 months now
and i decided to root my phone and try some custom ROMs and kernels since they're so popular , so last month i rooted my phone and take a spin on those famous ROMs and kernels ( partly is also the touchscreen issue and random reboots are driving me nuts ) i won't specify what ROM or kernel i am using though
first impressions when i had a new ROMs is that , there's nothing much that is different i though things would be faster snappier with a new kernel built in but ...my OPO did not , my phone did get more stable but it did suffer from multigesture issue once and force rebooted 3 times in the span of 1 month , but the biggest issue is that my phone keeps getting systemui has stopped working , multitasking button gets bugged one too many times , wallpapers constantly missing when i unlock my phone and animations are very clunky
so yesterday i decided to go back to stock just to remind myself how stock feels , using NANdroid backup i restored everything and...
stock 44s feels so much better compared to custom ROMs which begs the question
why do people deviate from stock ROM on OPO ? stock cm is pretty sweet , I understand rooting the phone to get xposed etc but custom ROMs just don't feel right on the OPO ...so is it just me ?
still props to all the devs out there , no offense just my 2 cents
I think if varies for the phones and locations, but I was getting some pretty beastly battery life, smooth/fast experience with vanir and Franco. For some reason I just didn't like stock and was not getting as great battery life. I've tried many things and some are good, but there are better (to me at least). I'm just running Lollipop now and can't seem to go back to kk.
It all comes down to ones preference really...
Sent from my A0001 using XDA Free mobile app
wait , isn't cm12 for OPO currently a little unstable? i really wanted to give it a shot but i fear that it is too unstable for a daily driver
Working fine for me; I don't think it is to the point where it can't be a daily driver. I'm really liking it so far, the Lollipop experience feels really nice and smooth.
Check comments from others on the threads to see the kind of issues they're having. Devs are doing daily builds so as days pass it gets better and better.
Sent from bacon with lollipop!

Sounds like you didn't do any kernel configurations at all to experience changes.
On AK, with Synapse and UKM, you can change numerical values to configure how the phone handles processes. Default kernel settings aren't optimum for every phone.
My settings consist of: slim (300-2457), CPU boost driver (10ms, 1574MHz, 30ms, 1190MHz), CPU Volt (-35mV), I/O sio @ 1536KB read ahead, drop caches, laptop mode, Vibrator at 25, Fast Charge at 1500mA, C1 (Retention) disabled, 120 second Wifi Scan interval.
With those settings, it makes a HUGE difference compared to stock, as well as fix bugs (screen artifact/tearing) before they were fixed on the latest firmware, and increases battery life by 1.5 times stock.

I have the same questioning but without any problems that you had/have/ My phone works perfectly ( crossing fingers ) and i've had it since July. I always used to ROM my S3-S4-S5 to get a new feel of the phone, but with the Oppo i don't see the reason to. Maybe it's because CM is pretty near pure stock Android, and that's what we get when we switch ROMs on big brands.

OP, it is not just you. Folks who mess about with custom ROMS, as the other posts here share, do so because they can customize the total phone experience, leaving things off, and putting other items on, to their liking. Giving that the background OS is stable, and the apps a person selects are stable, there should be little to no difference in 'performance', overall, due to the apps. However, you may get performance differences because there are less TSR's currently running in your system, so more memory is available, etc, which can make mainline apps run faster.
So many reasons to do custom apps.
As you said, and I agree, CM is a nice, generally smooth OS/ROM. I am coming from an LG G3, which I like very much, but to customize (remove all the junk), and fine tune (remove Google calling home = less battery live, etc), it take's some time to setup those conditions. With CM, most of the junk is not present at the onset (AT&T largely). Much more clean. I would like Google to be disassociated from CM completely, so that it is an add on only, providing better control of the base CM. I would like this in an official CM ROM/official variation.
That is the reason I have/am switching over to the OnePlus. I have tried a few custom ROMs as well, and the stock CM seems to have the best stability, reliability and consistency, to date. I suspect that will change when a large update comes out, such as L, and a great amount of energy goes into that development. I just changed from 38 to 44 last night on three OPO's. It took 5 minutes, or so, a piece, and all of the data/previous apps, setup etc, stayed with the updates, making for an all too easy update.
Awesome. Next will be "L". I will wait for the CM official, as that will likely be the most stable, as I suspect it is getting the most attention from the CM team, at this time. CM is a pretty nice OS.
Hi, did u test RR3 in Maximus? I have big stutter, i cant force to colse apk, i dont see even Task Manager in menu, but in asopa i want to instal HTC Task manager. In cm 12.1 RR3 works better, but firt of all i want to have sense, and cm 12.1 crash when i play and somebody calls, or text me. When i mean crash i mean, he stops the game, frezze system, cut the incoming call and realod to home menu. A add kernel elementalx OC 1,7Ghz + GPU 450 but null resoult.
Anybody know something?

Yes, we know something. You're trying to play one of the most demanding games (in terms of resources) on a 4 years old device, on an old ROM and you expect to have it work flawless. Guess what...not gonna happen. It's like trying to play Crysis 3 or FarCry 3 on a Pentium 4 with a 512 MB graphic card.

Hmm, this is weird. When I install Cm 11 OPO stock edition/12.1 Real Racing works hmm fine, but i dont like cm, and cm have other issue. On maximus this game is baerly playable, but sense 5 is beautiful. Stock 4.1.1 works better then Maximus, but worse then CM. I must say this phone is very unstable, I flash couple roms couple times and one times evrything works fine, but when i flash again to stock and then again maximus, i lost that stable when i flash before.
I wipe everything, system, cashe, data, internal, boot. davlk. I use CWM, TWRP and i must say this my phone dosent like me.

Thats because Sense will put a high load on the phone already so starting a game which demand even more CPU, memory and graphic resources wont help it perform better. So in terms of performance, a CM or AOSP based ROM will theoretically be better.
On the other hand, Sense based ROMs are using proprietary HTC drivers that are optimized for our device, while CM/AOSP uses manufacturer generic drivers.
Bottom line is that you have to choose. It's depending on what you want but playing recent and graphic intensive games it's not one of this phone's strongest points. Probably the lag is mostly caused by the less memory we have as our device, despite having 1 GB RAM, was good at this point 3 years ago. Nowadays devices with 1 GB RAM are barely running Lollipop and 2 GB became the new standard

Meaby I noob but i cant to figure out this phone, now i back totally to stock, lock bootloader, s-on and Rom 4.1.1 and.......... Real Racing 3 works fine no lag, no stutter. Like i said before this phone is very unstable.
Time to move forward and get Smart with 2Gb ram and quad core, but i love this phone, he brings me so cheerful memories.
Edit:
Hey One more question... meaby this unstable is casue by battery? This phone have ~2 years, it is possible that battery cause all this issue?

Very unlikely. Battery could last longer if it's new but won't affect performance in such way. My phone is 3 years old and is still working ok. I'm not playing games with it and battery gives me only about 15 hours with 3 hrs SOT but it's still fine for any other task I used to.

I everyone,
A wile back I bought an IVIEW 420TPC-WT and its a nice little device for tinkering but its slow and unstable out of the box. I was able to install Nova launcher and no-frills cpu on it and it ran better but the stock rom is terrible and the device runs out of its 512 Mb ram quickly. The apps crash and the devices freezes. Even my HTC Incredible runs better than this.
Does anyone know how to make a good working and light weight rom with possibly a custom boot loader for it?
There is already root that works great. Apps are starting to not run on it anymore due to its limitations. Its fast but the stock rom does not handle the hardware correctly.
I don't mind testing anything if it helps others with similar questions.
